כבר כתבתי בעבר על החיבה שרכשתי לספרי המתח של פטרישיה קורנוול ודר´ סקפטה קיי (הפאתולוגית שלה).
צלצול טלפון מעיר את דר´ סקרפטה בשלוש לפנות בוקר של יום שבת. הצלצול מבשר על פרשיית רצח חדשה אותה יש לפתור.
לספרים של קורנוול יש דמויות בסיס המלוות את חקירות הרצח : הרופאה דר´ קיי סקרפטה, פט מרינו השוטר הבלש, ווסלי פרופיילר מטעם האף.בי.אי., לוסי האחיינית האהובה עליה בספר בת 10, העיתונאית אבי ועוד.
בספר הזה הקורא מתוודע לחיים הקודמים של קיי, על ימיה בתקופת הלימודים, אנחנו מקבלים מושג על לוסי שבספרים המאוחרים יותר תפתח את הכישורים שבספר הזה אנחנו רואים ניצנים.
מי שקרא ספרים של קורנוול יזהה את התבנית: רצח, חשד שנופל על האדם הלא נכון, חקירה, הסתכנות אישית ופענוח...אבל זה היופי של הספרים. היא לא מחדשת בתבנית , רק בפרטים. הסופרת מצליחה להתעלות על השיעמום של התבנית עי מילוי התוכן במארג מרתק (למרות שכמו שכתבתי כאן כבר בעבר היא נכנסת לדקויות רפואיות שיתכן והיה אפשר להוריד אותן בעריכה...לפעמים זה מעיק על הקורא).
למעט בעיה של מונחים רפואיים שאפילו בבילון לפעמים לא ראה, השפה קולחת, האנגלית לא מסובכת והספר מותח עד לנקודת הסיום שלו שממש מצליחה להחזיק את הקורא ב^עצבים^ רוטטים.
ממולץ כניקוי ראש בין לבין ובמזן...
