How could I not borrow this cookbook to find a few new ways to usher in each episode when I'm sitting on Sunday night watching it? The cookbook transports just like the series episodes. It's important to note that the book explains the differences in consumption during these decades and how these differences also translate between American versus British cooking and baking as well.
I loved going back to specific episodes since it incorporates quotes between characters about these items. It's got pictures from scenes from across the series. And includes all the recipes broken out into desserts versus cooking, drinking, and the most indulgent, the Christmas episode foods.
More than just a tie-in cookbook, this fine work explains the culinary scene in Britain during the period of 1956-1970. Recipes for food and drink seen on the show are categorized and interspersed with exceptionally interesting essays about the food of the time.
Additionally, well-rendered photographs of the food and shots of the cast make for a fantastic package. Quotes from episodes about the food being made add a bit of levity and nostalgia for the characters and scenes.
A beautiful hard covered cookbook with images from the show and some delicious sounding desert recipes. I am not an adventurous eater so I am not sure of some of the meals but the desserts are definitely worth it even if you are picky like I am. And if you are a fan or enjoy trying different meals this is for you.
Photos are great, history is interesting, and tie ins to the show are fun! It turns out that I'm not sure most British food from this era is to my liking, but the way it's presented here is enjoyable anyway.
