Dear Dumb Diary #8

It's Not My Fault I Know Everything

Rate this book
New York Times Bestselling author Jamie Kelly is back with another hilarious, candid, and sometimes not-so-nice diary! Dear Dumb Diary,I went back and read some of my very oldest diaries. The entries say things like "I eated salad dressing" and "I got a Barbie shoe stuck in Stinker's nose again" and "The vet was mean to me about the Barbie shoe so I tried to bite him but vets are quick at not getting bit because dogs try all the time but dogs don't usually kick so I did that."What amazed me was just how dumb I used to be, considering how smart I am now. There must have been a day when I just woke up smart.

Jamie is back for a new hilarious month of diary entries. One of her teachers has given the class a diary assignment, so now there is also a fake diary. She draws the pictures in her fake diary with her left hand so as to remain anonymous. Meanwhile Stickybuns, Angelina's dog, has had four puppies. One looks exactly like Jamie's dog Stinker, so they name it Stinkette. The other three are Prince Fuzzybutt, Dingledongle, and The Bubblegum Duchess. Isabella is ready to take one of them home and is quite persistent about it. We also find out that Jamie has a gift for magazine quizzes and Angelina helps her with her hair. Will Jamie keep up with the maintenance on her beautiful hair or let it go? And there are other questions: Who does Hudson Rivers like? Can Angelina actually be a friend? There are some great revelations this month. Once you read her diary you will know and really and truly know everything -- at least everything you want to know.

It was a half day at school today. I don't know why. Sometimes teachers say that they use half days to work on grades or something. I think they might just be hosing the coffee odor off each other in the parking lot.

jim benton can do his "isabella and jamie and angeline are kind of all like sisters" thing as much as he wants but that doesn't make it any less blindingly glaringly obvious that angeline has a gigantic crush on jamie. jamie gay tracker: the freakout when angeline TOUCHES HER HAIR!!!

I was not expecting the Angeline redemption arc, but I support it

I kinda liked this book because it was funny, like when she imagined herself telling a bald to watch the glare and when she said "the last time a saw a blonde run this fast, was a golden retriever and it was running after a tennis ball", so I thought it was sorta funny. But the book could have kept going and I feel like it was too short.

One of the weaker books but sweet at the end where dog love rules even for heroine. The bits on the magazine quiz are the most inspired parts of the book. My 10 year old niece and I will continue to plow through these because it's been something fun to share.

Jamie knows she's very smart, after all, she keeps acing those popular teen magazine quizzes all the time. And her smartness accidentally leads her to a class assignment of fake diaries. Now she has to write twice as much, with only one being the real truth. That's real smart! Jamie's so smart that she helps Angeline out with naming her new puppies, only she's smart enough to know there's more than to just a name right?

After the subplot of Jamie's aunt's wedding, the last reveal turns out Angeline's and Jamie's dogs hooked up to spawn puppies. The humor is still quite the same, though I think I'm starting to realize how much more crazier the main characters are becoming here. But that's part of the attraction of this series, where illogical can become logical. There also some noticeable maturity in Jamie becoming softer to Angeline now too. It's a fun pick for middle school humor.

A mildly enjoyable read. I never got into it as a kid but as an adult, I must say I chuckled quite a couple times while reading this. Lots of dry humour and some crazy out of pocket thoughts. So funny! The illustrations are cute and the writing style is unlike other diary type books that I’ve read (Diary of a Wimpy Kid).

My favourite line:
This morning Isabella called, and I knew I shouldn't tell her that I went over and named the puppies yesterday.

"I went over and named the puppies yesterday," I accidentally bragged.

Yet another book I read because my stepdaughter checked it out of the library and left it lying around the house. It's fine for what it is, but no better than that -- certainly not as good as the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books (though in fairness, I haven't read #8 in that series, and these things tend to deteriorate over time).

All the Dear Dumb Diary books are really good for people from non-English-speaking countries learning the language. On the other hand I would say about it the same thing I said about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid - it's inappropriate for children under the age of eight because it teaches them that school is something really wrong and boring and some people are just bad - it's never like that!

I'm never a fan of how self centered Jamie is. However, she does learn to be nice to Angeline for a little bit in this book. There is something to be said about grooming, which is over looked as vanity in this book. There is nothing wrong with grooming. Obviously, because it's Jamie, she takes it to the extreme so that it is vanity.

I thought this book was ok but I don't think I want to read anymore. Some parts were interesting and I think it's a good series. I just think it's ok because I did not like some things about it but it is a little intersting so I might read another one.

Jamie thinks she knows everything. Her friend’s dog marries her dog and they have puppies. Jamie and Angeline and Isabella get a dog. One’s name is Prince Fuzzybutt and Bubblegum Dutchess and Dingledongle and Stinkette.

THIS. IS. THE. GROWTH POINT.

There is so much growth on Jamie's part in this book. She becomes less conceited, respects Angeline more, and even recognises that Isabella isn't the best person, AND graciously accepts that Hudson may not be the one for her.

It also has the happiest ending ever.

This book is just as the title suggests: 'dumb'... and boring. The names of the puppies were stupid and Isabella sounds like a creepy psychopath who has no boundaries.

Dear Dumb Diary, It's Not My Fault I Was Bored to Death After Reading This.
