Alfred Paul Ries was an American marketing professional and author. He was the cofounder and chairman of the Atlanta-based consulting firm Ries & Ries with his partner and daughter, Laura Ries. Along with Jack Trout, Ries is credited with resurrecting the idea of "positioning" in the field of marketing.

Die Kernaussage des Buches ist interessant: Als Zweiter kann man sich nicht in seinem Elfenbeinturm verschanzen und hoffen, dass der Erfolg von ganz allein kommt - man muss sich gegen den Ersten positionieren, und zwar durch Herauspicken einer Nische, die man besser bedient. Es fällt sinngemäß der Spruch: Lieber ein großer Fisch in einem kleinen Teich (und den später erweitern) als ein kleiner Fisch in einem großen.

Damit ist allerdings auch schon alles gesagt. Was folgt sind 200 Seiten Geschwafel und ein nicht enden wollendes sich Abarbeiten an den immergleichen Beispielen.

Komplett unwissenschaftlich (von einem Werber geschrieben) und jedes Einzelbeispiel könnte aus dem Stehgreif mit zwei anderen widerlegt werden.
