If you have ever read any of my reviews, you know I'm not a big fan of historical fiction, but I make an exception for Jen Turano's books. They never fail to bring a smile to my face and joy to my heart.
Gwendolyn Brinley finds herself as a paid companion to a matchmaker for a season, and soon promoted to assistant matchmaker, against her better judgment. Walter Townshend is a wealthy widower with three children in need of a wife who is willing to take on his headstrong offspring. What happens next, when Gwendolyn takes it upon herself to find Walter a perfect match, is nothing short of humorous.
Turano's books are filled with strong female characters, action, incredibly plotted situations that propel the plot forward while keeping the reader thoroughly entertained. Sometimes books involving children come across as silly or trite, but these kids grew on me and made me laugh out loud many times. I can't wait for another book in this fun series.

Another amusing start to a new Jen Turano series!
When I first heard of the plotline of this book—particularly the matchmaking element (because who doesn’t love matchmaking?)—I was instantly excited and eager to read it.
I think what was interesting in this book was that while, yes, it is a romance book and all about finding matches for others, it was super light on the emotions and romance for our main couple. Which I really like and as an added bonus because of that, could be great read for teens or even okay pre-teen readers (depending on her family’s views about reading romance books). Gwendolyn & Walter were acquaintances/friends first (though, he was instantly attracted to her, but there was no heavy noticing of the other or accidental touches) and I thought it made this novel to be a breath of fresh air because of that new friendship.
I did find it hard to keep track of all the characters in this book, so I did make use of the search feature on my Kindle copy, but I’m looking forward to Adelaide and her many cats’ story next.
Like every other book by this author, there’s humor and wit that made me laugh out loud and it was overall a really enjoyable read. I wouldn’t put it in my top three by this author—the bar is just set too high—but I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the series as they continue.
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Author for this honest review.
4.5 stars, rounding up to 5. We love a good matchmaking story and this one will not disappoint! So much humor, great characters, and a story that reels you right in!
This is the second Jen Turano book I have read so far and ya’ll – she brings so much great, witty banter to the table between characters that is over the top, but also believable. I LOVE IT! We have a fun match making story of Gwendolyn who is hired to find the perfect match for Mr. Walter Townsend, the catch of the season, but could the perfect match be her after all?
Such a delightful story as SO many other reviews have said. The humor she brings is what makes the story – you find yourself laughing out loud and feeling all the heartwarming feelings you want to from a story like this. This is a great lighthearted read that I really needed this week. The romance in more of a friendship building - slow burn - realization/beginning a relationship at the end of the story. I did somewhat want a bit more of a romance development sooner, but loved the time spent on Mr. Townsend's children with Gwendolyn - it makes sense why it was done the way it was because the who plot is we are trying to find a mother for his unrully children. Which, the children were HILARIOUS throughout the story. I loved seeing what they were going to get into next! :)
Speaking of Gwendolyn, she is a new favorite character of mine because she stands up for what she beleives in, speaks her mind and cares about others in such a way that she truly stands out. She goes above and beyond in so many aspects of this story, I loved it.
As usual, Jen Turano never fails to entertain me with her books. Her quite unique sense of humor always has me laughing loudly, and thoroughly enjoying every minute of her stories. I just don’t know how she does it. But she does and does it well indeed. A huge favorite of mine.
My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinion here is expressly my own.
I seem to be way in the minority here, but I found this book to be a tedious disaster. I downloaded it to listen to on a long car trip and I'm lucky I didn't get into an accident because I was so bored I almost lapsed into a coma. This author is obviously not for me. She knows a lot of big words, I'll give her that.
There is literally no action. It's just endless, verbose, improbable conversations between various pairs of unlikeable people (Gwendolyn was a truly dreadful character - like Mary Poppins if she was a matchmaker and had no sense of humor) describing things that happened. Sometimes over and over and over again. At one point I yelled out in pain, "For the love of Pete, enough about the stupid girl getting hit in the face with a tennis ball!"
Review copy was received from Publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
A Match in the Making is the first book in the new Matchmakers series. Jen Turano is a new to me author and if the rest of her work is anything like this I will be working my way through her catalog soon. The story was fun, the characters interesting and the plot engaging. I had so much fun with everything about this story I found myself just randomly smiling while listening.
Gwendolyn is a bit unconventional for a lady and took a job as a paid companion for the summer. She thought she was going to relax, attend a few parties and read for the summer. But that all changed when the lady she was to be the companion to broke her leg and bumps Gwendolyn up from companion to Matchmaking assistant. Her tranquil and relaxing season has now turned into a series of luncheons, beach get togethers, balls and excursions as she tries to find the most eligible bachelor the right wife who might care for Walter and his three very unruly children.
Walter doesn't really care if he falls in love. His only requirement for a wife is that she will be a good mother for his children. When that fact comes out in a conversation with Gwendolyn, he becomes inundated with all kinds of feminine attention as each woman tries in more elaborate and unusual ways to get close to Walter through any means necessary and if a black eye or a spilled drink on a dress just happens to happen, so be it.
I had so much fun with Gwendolyn and Walter as they conversed and antagonized each other. Walter didn't even know there could be a woman like Gwendolyn out there and I love the way she goes toe to toe with him. The children aspect of the story ended up really working; they brought an extra bit of dimension and some very funny moments to the story. Seeing Walter find a way to be a better father to them was one of my favorite aspects to the story. It became more and more clear that Gwendolyn and Walter were made for each other and I was in a state of great anticipation wondering when they were going to figure that out for themselves.
There are so many great moments and fun characters in the book that I'm very interested to see what will happen in the next Matchmaking books. Jen Turano really impressed me with her characters, fun moments and dialogue. A great new to me author find.
Narration: Sarah Zimmerman is a very accomplished narrator. I think she has a voice that is made for Historical Romance and I enjoyed how she played the voices of all the characters. While her performance of Gwendolyn was my favorite, all the characters were really good. I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.
This was such a delightful read, I can’t even express how much I loved this story. I read this all last evening and loved every fun and humorous moment. The characters are full of depth and emotion.

I cannot say enough good things about this book! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for, too funny. My favorite part would have to be when Gwendolyn attempts to help Walter find a wife and the lengths the ladies will try to convince Walters they could be perfect for him, are just not crazy but comical. very Entertaining!
The Characters in this story were so fun to get to know. Gwendolyn was a no-nonsense, headstrong heroine. Walter was a swoon-worthy hero, changing from being a distant father to a father who begins to understand his children and sees the value of a love-filled marriage, the development of their relationship from enemies to lovers was sweet and beautiful, I remind you that in God's eyes, we are all equal.
"you're going to be told throughout your life that girls shouldn't do many things. It'll be out to you to decide whether that's true or not"
I recommend this to readers of all ages. If you love Historical fiction, and clean-romantic comedy, you will be happy to read this book. I am so excited to see where we go from here and to see which characters will be getting their own books.
Thank you, NetGalley and Bethany House Publisher for the eARC, a positive review was not required but happily given
Okay I am not a fluff reader - but Jen Turano consistently writes books that suck me in and make me forget that fact.
Jen writes intellectual banter in a way that I love and find completely overdramatic but also believable. The synopsis for this book is a woman who becomes an assistant matchmaker, who might've committed the biggest mistake, falling for her client. This obviously causes problems finding him a wife, since none of the potential matches just aren't her. And y'all, it worked. I loved this story!
I did find the ending slowed down and the plot didn't propel forwards as naturally as it had throughout the rest of the story. This book leans heavily on the 'fluff' side of reading, but it makes the perfect beach read (I live in Canada and currently it's cold, so forgive me if my imagination transports me to a warmer climate).
All in all, this book has all the Turano hallmarks of a laugh-out-loud historical romance.
A note on the faith content: I found the faith would drop off and pop up at certain convenient times. Overall the characters didn't live Christian lives, they just lived morally good lives. If that makes sense.
*I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley. I was not required to leave a positive review, and all thoughts & opinions are my own.
“It came as no surprise when shrieking immediately commenced.”
… And it should come as no surprise to fans of Jen Turano that there are times in A Match in the Making where everything devolves into a delightful form of author-controlled chaos that leaves you laughing out loud. The scene I quoted from above – and the aftermath of explaining it – was one such spot in the book for me, but there are several others. In short, this Gilded Age romance is brimming with classic Turano hilarity and a bevy of amusing characters and plot twists.
Speaking of plot twists, poor Gwendolyn just wanted a relaxing summer without the typical social constraints so she could figure out what to do with her life. She thought being a paid companion in Newport would afford her that time for self-reflection… and perhaps it would have, had she not been unexpectedly thrust into the role of ‘assistant matchmaker’ instead. Trying to describe the havoc she wreaks on the Newport social scene … well, there are no words that will really do it justice, but imagine Amelia Bedelia trying to play matchmaker and you have at least an inkling of the mayhem that ensues. I loved Gwendolyn’s character – she is a wonderful mix of independence, kindness, and humor with the type of personality that would make her a good friend.
“You’re going to be told throughout your life that girls shouldn’t do many things. It’ll be up to you to decide whether that’s true or not.”
And poor Walter. Deciding his children need a mother, he reluctantly joins the Newport season and “hires” a matchmaker out of desperation. He’s not looking for true love – just someone ‘pleasant’ … much to Gwendolyn’s irritation. Needless to say, they clash over the kind of woman that would be perfect for him – introducing all manner of hilarious conversations and comedic incidents. I adore when Turano writes a hero and heroine who are so perplexed (and often perturbed lol) upon suddenly discovering they’ve fallen in love. Gwendolyn & Walter are one such couple, and I delighted in following their slow-burn romance to its foregone conclusion.
I would be remiss in my review if I failed to mention the pure delight that Walter’s children add to this story. While they may be little rapscallions to start with, we soon begin to see them as their charming, sweet and adorable selves. So many of my fave quotes from A Match in the Making involve the children, and oh goodness they wrapped themselves firmly around my heart.
“How do you know it’s telling? You’re nine.”
“And old for my years, so you’ll simply need to believe me.”
Bottom Line: A Match in the Making by Jen Turano is a completely entertaining & farcical example of what could happen if Mary Poppins and Amelia Bedelia were blended into one person who has reluctantly become a society matchmaker and unexpectedly fallen in love to boot. I also got some definite While You Were Sleeping movie vibes (one key scene in particular), and I adored it all from beginning to end. Laugh-out-loud situations, hilarious conversations, and vibrantly lovable characters are the perfect match for Turano’s flair for the endearingly ridiculous, and your spirit will be lighter for having read this delightful story.

A Match in the Making by Jen Turano — Story enjoyment rating 9.5/10 Christian Faith rating 1.5/3
A Match in the Making by Jen Turano is a historical romance set in Newport in 1888. It follows Gwen, who takes on the position of a companion to a matchmaker only to find herself employed as the assistant matchmaker.
The book was a lot of fun. The story was comical and the two main characters were feisty, almost to the point of annoying, but they didn’t cross that line for me.
I loved watching their relationship grow as they sparred with one another. There were loads of side characters and side stories which kept my attention.
The faith content was there, but minimal. One scene takes place in church and the sermon was mentioned a few times.
I thought it was fun, cute and sometimes surprising.
There is a reason Jen remains in my top three authors of all-time year after year. Her books are always instant favorites for me and never miss at charming me. A Match in The Making was a phenomenal read for me. Gwendolyn is one of my favorites of Jen's female characters. She was awesome. The story was entertaining and hilarious as usual. Jen's stories are always a perfect mix of humor and story. Another perfect read for me from Jen and this one will join the rest of Jen's novels on my favorites bookshelf.
I received this book from the publisher and also purchased my own Audible copy. All thoughts are my own.
This was such a fun story. The heroine unexpectedly finds herself in the role of matchmaker for a season at Newport. The hero finds himself in need of a wife to mother his children. They seem like holy terrors, but they just need a firm hand and lots of love. All kinds of escapades and mishaps happen in this novel that will have you laughing out loud on occassion as you experience the Newport season with Gwendolyn and Walter.
The Countess of Comedy, Jen Turano, has penned another blithesome book, which will have readers chortling with glee!
Entertaining and engaging, "A Match in the Making" is a delightful blend of high society soirees, amusing antics, matchmaking machinations, seaside shenanigans, and banter that zings off the page.
Gwendolyn reminded me a of Mary Poppins with her no-nonsense demeanor, dry wit, and ability to take ridiculous situations in stride. Not to mention the way she helps phlegmatic Walter reconnect with his precocious children.
If you fancy the notion of a Gilded Age beach read, A Match in the Making is sure to be your cup of tea!
📚 The Matchmakers Series 📖 1) A Match in the Making
Jen Turano does it again. She never disappoints with her top notch characters. They are always witty, and sometimes quirky. I love them.
Things To Expect In This Book: * Slow burn romance * Dual POV * The cutest fictional kids EVER * Fishing outing gone wrong * Feisty society women
I love how with each of Jen's books, especially this one, you can actually picture each of the scenes as if it were a play. It would deserve a standing ovation for best Historical Rom Com of the year! Highly recommend it, and I can't wait for book 2! If you haven't read it yet, do it! And while you're at it, go read all of her other books. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
This book was so much fun! I listened to the audiobook on my morning walks. It was the perfect summer read since it’s set during summer and the characters visit the beach often!☺️
The matchmaking plot was a lot of fun! I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times! Oh, and I loved the children! They were the cutest. Children just make books 10x more fun.🥰
This book was just plain fun. Nothing too serious but just a fun read that’ll make you smile and laugh.💗 I can’t wait to read Adelaide and Gideon’s story!
Gwendolyn didn't plan to be an assistant matchmaker for the summer season in Newport, but that's what happened. She quickly takes men and women in the marriage mart in hand.
With A Match in the Making, Jen Turano once again delivers another humorous romance set amidst the upper echelons of Gilded Age society. Her humor is one of the things I love most about her books, especially the wit in the dialogue.
Gwendolyn and Walter’s interactions had me chuckling from the beginning. The development of their relationship from annoyance to love was sweet and beautiful.
I also loved the secondary characters. Not only was it fun seeing Gwendolyn making matches but the characters added plenty of humor. I’m already footing for a few and hoping to see them again in future books.
My favorite secondary characters, though, were the children. Priscilla, Samuel, and Oscar not only added to the humor but also the depth of the characters. Walter’s love for them and his realization that he had been a distant father while buried in grief made him not only relatable but also easy to root for as he strived to be better. And Gwendolyn’s ability to connect with the kids and understand their needs made her a perfect match.
As for the spiritual thread, there’s a great discussion about what God views people as equals, not separated by class. I think this is a great reminder in a world often divided by social class and other differences.
Overall, A Match in the Making is a delightful romp in Gilded Age Newport perfect for historical romance and rom-com fans.
(Note: I received a complimentary copy via NetGalley for review. All opinions expressed are my own.)
If you like hilarious banter between your two main characters and a female main character with ZERO filter and will do and say whatever pops into her brain...this is the book you need to read next.
This was a fast paced moving book that held my attention. I loved the matchmaking trope-especially when it was a surprise role for our female main character. The situations it would put her in, and the dialogue that would revolve around it were so much fun. I loved the single dad trope with unruly children and LOVED how Gwendolyn dealt with it. She was a head of her time and so much fun to read about.
Walter enters back into high society for the marriage mart and is in for the time of his life. His encounters with Gwendolyn kept this book on my mind constantly. They are beyond perfect for each other and it's fun to watch them try and figure that out.
The society girls battling at every corner was a fun aspect to this book and while you know it's happening in most historical romances this one really shines a spotlight on it and I thought it was incredibly intriguing (and entertaining) lol.
It has been a while since I had picked up a book from this author and now I need to go back and make up for lost time! If you like a lot of laughing out loud please consider this for your next read!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.
My first Jen Turano book I've read, and let me tell you...if you love sweet rom-coms definitely pick up this book.
Gwendolyn is a high society lady who finds herself in the most outrageous situation, being an assistant to a matchmaker, which she wants absolutely no part of. But what she discovers is a natural talent for meddling and possibly match making as well.
I loved the banter between Gwendolyn and Walter. And who doesn't love some good old fashioned cat fights between society ladies? There were multiple romances in this story and enjoyed them all, I pretty much guessed most of who was going to end up with who, but it was loads of fun along the way.
*thank you to Baker Publishing and #netgalley for a copy of this book to read and review.
I won this book in a giveaway and it's the third book I've read by Mrs. Turano. It also happens to be the first of hers that I read and own in physical copy, since the two I read last year were on audio.
Just like the two books of hers that I read last year, this one was full of fun hijinks and humor. I really enjoyed the dynamic between our hero, Walter, and heroine, Gwendolin, especially the way their romance was slow growing and started with friendship. And I especially liked the dynamic Gwendolin had with Walter's kids. It's very easy for kid characters like this to become annoying, especially when out of control like these kids were. But I thought Ms. Turano did a great job making them fully fleshed out characters as well. They misbehaved because they needed someone to act as an actual disciplinarian, and though their friendship with Gwendolyn was rough at first, it became sweet and genuine later on.
Another thing I liked was that, while the majority of the story was mainly focused on humor and relationship drama, there actually was a splash of mystery and excitement near the end that I enjoyed.
The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the same issue I had with the two books I read by Turano last year, which was the writing style. Her style is very quirky and unique to her, which isn't a bad thing by itself. However, the dialog carries a lot of weight throughout all of her books that I've read so far because she leans on it heavily to do a lot of the explaining of the reason for things, description of characters and places, and summary of backstory. I actually found it a little difficult to read in physical copy and ended up downloading the audiobook from my library to listen to at the same time as I read the physical book with my eyeballs. For whatever reason, this writing style seems to lend itself better to being read aloud and I was able to tolerate the explainy-ness (that's totally a word :P) of the dialog a lot better that way.
Lesson learned, Jen Turano may just be an author I'll enjoy best if I listen to her books exclusively on audio. And I definitely want to continue reading her because I really do enjoy the zany qualities of her stories.
Content Advisory: The lovely Lindsey from Books for Christian Girls has already written a thorough advisory, so I will save myself some time and link to that here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
If ever I need a good laugh, I turn to Jen Turano’s books! This delightful beginning to a new series is a must read for historical romantic comedy fans. Set during the 1880’s Newport summer season, Gwendolyn Brinley is hoping for a restful break from her demanding opera diva cousin. She agrees to be a temporary paid companion to Mrs. Parker thinking it will be a time where she can reflect on her life. Unfortunately, Mrs. Parker has other plans. She enlists Gwendolyn to become her assistant matchmaker. That’s when the craziness ensues!
Walter Townsend, a widower with three unruly young children, is the catch of the season. When a beautiful young woman spills her drink all over him and proclaims to be an assistant matchmaker, he’s determined to enlist her help in finding him a new wife. This is the last thing Gwendolyn wants to worry about. With Gwendolyn’s uncanny success, she only draws more male clients who Mrs. Parker is happy to take on when they pay her in jewels. But, will Gwendolyn be able to find the perfect match for Walter and his children or will they realize that the perfect match is right in front of them?
Gwendolyn is a kind of Yenta and Mary Poppins all in one. She sees right off the bat that Walter’s children are good kids who just need genuine love and guidance. Walter is somewhat of an absentee father who has left his children to the grandmothers to raise. The grandmothers do what they do best, spoil the children. Gwendolyn has a way with them and teaches the children how to behave properly in a loving way. She also helps Walter see the need to be involved in his children’s lives. His expectations for a wife are merely to find someone to get along with, but Gwendolyn helps him see that he should strive for so much more.
The two of them have a sort of frenemies relationship at first. Their witty bickering had me laughing out loud. I loved the way they both changed throughout the story. Some of the crazy situations they find themselves involve a stubborn pony, a shark, and overenthusiastic/cutthroat heiresses striving to be the next Mrs. Walter Townsend. It’s one of those hilarious books you just need to read and have nothing spoiled.
Unlike some of her previous books, this is a slow build romance where the focus is on building the relationship. There’s not a lot of physical expressions of affection such as those subtle touches or innocent kisses in this book. It’s so clean I’d have no problem recommending it to older middle grade or high school readers. It was a refreshing change to see the couple really get to know one another before any romance occurred.
Highly recommend to historical romance and historical romcom fans! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. 4 1/2 stars/5
3.75 So fun! I liked this clean, fun matchmaking tale. What a surprise to find something like this published in our modern times. I would recommend this if you like"Hallmark set in the 19th century" type books. Other people have written better synopsis... synopsi? synopsis's? synopsises? anyways... than I have. In short, it's an enemies to lovers sort about a widower with 3 neglected children and an outspoken matchmaker. *chef's kiss*
Cleanliness: 🧼🧼🧼🧼🧼/5 -very very slight noticing of beauty. a little bit of attraction (duh), and a few kisses.
I’m absolutely enthralled with this new series and cannot wait for all the craziness that is sure to ensue! But let’s get on to my thoughts on this story…
Oh this story did my heart good! It’s full to bursting! While I’ve loved everything Jen has written this story took me back to her first series! It felt like home!!
The characters were beautiful in only the way Jen can do! They were humorous, and spunky, and just a good time!!
Gwendolyn is my spirit animal! I loved how she spoke her mind, no matter if she broke society rules, but it was always done out of love and in defense of someone else! She loved everyone in some aspect or another one and she had everyone’s best interests at heart.
Walter was *chefs kiss* FABULOUS! (Even with all his flaws) He was a typical society gentlemen who was looking for a wife for his children. He took all of Gwendolyn’s matchmaking in stride, and actually listened and changed throughout the story to be the father they ACTUALLY needed!
I loved every. single. second. of this story!! I loved each character! The children were ADORABLE! I LOVED their antics and their interactions with Gwendolyn and with Walter. This story has my heart truly!! I loved the growth each character went through in their own way!
The “suspense” plot was a *little* cliche, and felt a little like it was just thrown in there to be there. BUT! It also opened the door for some conversations to be had and realizations to be made. So I wasn’t mad at it at all!
This book gave me all the feels! All the swoons! All the smiles. All the sighs! It just made me…happy! 5/5 stars

This was super fun! I found myself bursting out laughing several times. I loved Gwendolyn, I loved the kids, I loved the grandmothers, and I loved Adelaide! The romance was super believable, too.
If you enjoy laughing then you don't want to miss out on 358 pages worth of it! Literally, I don't know if there was a single page where I didn't at least give a little chuckle. This was one of my most anticipated stories this year and it didn't disappoint.
First we meet Gwendolyn, who was employed as a companion, but in a strange turn of events became an assistant matchmaker. Watching her throughout the story trying to give up the position is a hoot. The more she tries to ditch the role, the more she becomes ensconced it... against her will. Of course, stepping into the role, trying to do her best leaves the women and men of the Season scrambling to make sense of what's going on! To say she upturns the entire Season in Newport is putting it mildly.
Then there's Walter, the catch of the season. He's utterly clueless as to how to find a suitable woman to be a mother to his children and how to find the "right" woman. Let's just say, his bar wasn't set very high. When Gwendolyn appears in his life on the heels of a social faux pas they begin a tug of war of finding that woman. The two of them together reminds me of Miss Scarlet and the Duke. They drive each other nuts and it endears us to them!
There are definitely some good lessons in the story. Walter's kids have grandmas who spoil the children to keep them in line, which has only made them terrors. Walter is an absent father and we see the impact that makes. How we treat other people who aren't in the same "league" as us matters!
The end of the story had me in a fit of giggles! I don't know how to say that "what happens" is probably one of the funniest and most memorable EVER. Of course, finishing this story has me in restless anticipation for book two! I can't WAIT to see how that one unfolds.
*I received this book for review. This is my personal opinion.
Oh goodness Jen Turano does a great job at keeping me entertained. Reading her books while they hubby is asleep does not bode well for him as I start laughing and chuckling out loud. This newest book is no exception. I could not help myself in some parts.
I really enjoyed Gwendolyn. She is quite the feisty character. She heads to Newport as a companion thinking she will have time to relax and ponder on what she is supposed to next with her life and instead gets roped into being a matchmaker. Because of her no-nonsense attitude and her fondness for matches to be based on love rather than mutual agreement everyone seems to want to be under her matchmaking abilities even the gentlemen.
Walter is one of those men, and boy does he need her. He is looking for a wife to take care of his rowdy children. But through the process he realizes that he doesn’t spend enough time and therefore doesn’t know them very well. I love how Gwendolyn and Walter have this odd relationship and how she gets under his skin.
Overall this book was enjoyable. While it didn’t have a huge thread faith I would definitely consider it a clean read. It had a great cast of characters and I honestly hope we see some of them in the next book. I for one cannot wait to read it. If you enjoy comedic stories in a historical fiction setting then Jen Turano’s books are for you!

Oh my goodness did I enjoy this read! I always know I’m in for a treat when I read a Jen Turano book because I know I’m not only in for a great story, but plenty of laughs—and this one certainly had me laughing! Gwendolyn’s character was fantastic. She kind of reminds me of Eliza Scarlet from the show “Miss Scarlet & the Duke”. She’s a woman before her time but in a good way. She has a whole lot of spunk but she also has class. And not in the “show off” sense if you know what I mean. And she cares. It was so easy to root for her. Having other matches to make also made the matchmaking more fun, and oh my goodness did I enjoy her bluntness when it came to the process! She wasn’t interested in a match simply for what they could gain in wealth or social status, but if they could truly be a MATCH. And boy, did she make some heads spin along the way! I can’t tell you how much I needed and adored this read. If you haven’t snagged it yet DO IT!! Oh my goodness…. So worth it!!
