Rate this book
Tsugawa Tatsuya just lost his parents in an accident... but he's trying not to let that keep him too down as he starts high school.
While trying to obey his father's final wish for him to become an upstanding man, he ends up helping a girl who was being bullied. Despite her exceedingly cold nature, he just can't leave her alone... which may not necessarily be to his benefit, as he ends up getting wrapped up in a world where things like parasitic mind-controlling bugs exist...

Review for volume 1 - 2

Aion is a pretty standard "average boy meets mysterious fighting girl with magic powers" story. He is a thoroughly good person, she has a dark past. She moves into his house and they grow gradually closer to each other while fighting with monsters (or mermaids in this case).

A series can still improve a lot after only 2 volumes, but I dunno. A good author can make even the first chapter of his series intriguing enough for you to feel the need to continue reading. But there is really nothing in Aion that manages to keep my interest. I can't even think of anything worthwhile to say about the series, since it left me so completely indifferent.

The characters are pretty standard and uninteresting. Tatsuya is way too good-natured and boring for an intriguing male lead. The demon sisters are annoying. Seine is whatever. For a female kick-ass main character she definitely doesn't have enough presence. The "revenge and fight against monsters possessing humans" story is also nothing new and neither have the fights (against school bullies and evil relatives) so far been impressive or even interesting. The way Tatsuya deeply cares for Seine right after meeting her also felt pretty cliché.

The art is good average. This isn't Kagesaki's first series and she is able to cover up her weaknesses (movement, anatomy, action scenes, more elaborate poses and scenes in general) pretty well by focusing on what she can do. She isn't the kind of gifted artist who will have you staring at one panel for minutes admiring all the details and perfect perspective (very few are), but her art is functional enough for story-telling.

Aion doesn't stick out in any way, neither as something bad, nor as anything special. If you have read all the good mangas available in your language already and desperately need something new, you can always give it a try. I doubt that this series will ever rise above "good average" and won't be picking up further volumes, unless somebody tells me that it becomes totally amazing.

Recommended only if you absolutely adore the "fighting girl" genre and the art of the author.

This is the first of an 11 volume series by Chibi vampire author Yuna Kagesaki. Sadly it's one of those series that failed to complete before Tokyopop shut down and so only three volumes were ever published in English, volume 3 of which is now annoyingly hard to track down, sigh.

It's a crying shame because the story behind this one is quite interesting. There's an epic battle going on between mermaids (although sadly none are actually seen in this volume) and an immortal sea witch called Seine (currently masquerading as a schoolgirl). The mermaids as far as I can tell, send out aquatic parasites to infect humans so that they can control people on land. Seine along with her familiar - shape morphing serpent Aion goad possessed humans and defeat the parasites, leaving them with no memory of what has happened.

As with typical manga of this genre, there's a somewhat clueless schoolboy (here recent orphan Tatsuya Tsugawa) who ends up living with the kick-ass heroine. I presume romance will follow in subsequent volumes.

Gets off to a decent start with cute artwork. Not bad.

That was... interesting. It was really slow in starting, but once things got going, it got pretty good.

I almost don't want to read volume 2 because Tokyopop only released the first two volumes...

I picked up all three volumes of this for like six bucks during a sale on RightStuf. I'm hesitant to say I still overpaid, but so far AiON...isn't all that special. For a series that bills itself as a "supernatural war between the immortal Seine [who's almost never called that in the actual volume] and sea creatures that can control humans," there's shockingly little action shown on the page. There are really only two fights: the first one ends really abruptly, and the second one takes place almost entirely "off camera."

Making things worse, we're given no explanation for what exactly Miyazaki (called Seine on the back cover) is, or how her powers work. Every once in awhile, she'll just have a little shadow serpent thing extend from her finger, or leg, or whatever, and it just kinda...does whatever she needs it to.

The writing and world-building are really sloppy so far, which is a shame, because you could feasibly tell a good action/horror story about mind-controlling parasites from the sea. Instead, we're given two flat and not terribly likable leads (Tatsuya lost his parents, and inherited a lot of money, and is a doormat to everyone; Miyazaki...has a shadow serpent and can't die. That's about it for her character development), a plot that spends a surprising amount of time dancing around its core conceit, and art that's...passable, but nothing really eye-catching. I'll continue with the next two volumes since I own them, but I don't have high hopes for this one.

This was an interesting, if somewhat strange, story. I have one more volume to read.

AiON Volume 1 by Yuna Kagesaki is an amazing book, but this is a different kind of book, it’s Manga. The book is all about a girl, who’s name is Miyazaki Seine. She wants these mermaids to stop living so she can relax but also to get revenge on her father. She has a snake inside of her and it helps with the poison the mermaid gave to whoever the snake “ate”. There is also a kid, his name is Tsugawa Tatsuya, who wants to become a great man like his father wished him to become one day. He lost his parents in an accident but he will make his father’s wish come true.
The one thing I do not like about this book is that there aren’t as many characters. Yuna did draw other people in the background but not they aren’t part of the story. The things I really like about this book is that it has a really weird but cool background story. Miyazaki is really mysterious, at first she lives in a cardboard box then Tatsuya takes her to his house. Miyazaki is also being bullied but she stops the bully with her snake. Also, Tatsuya and Miyazaki then live together. Tatsuya has a dog, whose name is Croquette.
I give this book a 5 star rate because there is a lot of detail in the story and pictures/drawings. I recommend this book to children the age 11 and older because there can be “scary” parts in it and it also says a really strong word (h---). I also recommend it to Manga readers and people who like to watch Anime because Mangas give ideas to Anime producers. I do not recommend it to people who don’t like books with action because this book has A LOT of action.

Daher also eine Kaufempfehlung. Wer jedoch einen wirklich mitreißenden, packenden Manga sucht sollte sich vielleicht noch einmal umschauen.

Not for those who are queasy with violence, but I assure you the gore is kept to a minimum.

An immortal witch girl fought against brain washing mermaid. The catch, she had to die first to satisfy the victim's urge to kill, if not the victim will be driven mad by the urge as long as the witch is alive. Plenty of violence but not so much gore.

The story itself was very touching though. Plenty of human drama without being too melodramatic and quite a few light hearted humor much like what you'd find in Chibi Vampire, Volume 1.

I myself like the main character very much. Tough, no-nonsense kind of girl (live in a cardboard box and own only a single underwear) yet weak against children. The male protagonist is the exact opposite, a person too nice for his own good. He is too kind, too naive and so far haven't shown that he's capable of anger (isn't he too perfect??).

Overall, very enjoyable manga. But not for those hoping for romantic light hearted comedy like Chibi Vampire.

Personally, I thought this was a nice little concept for a story. I mean, what can't go wrong with a story about an immortal that loves to be picked on and beaten on to death, in the most literal sense, to help those that are trying to kill her by getting rid of parasites? Well a lot of things, but I can't find some of them. I did find one obvious flaw with this, though: The translation. I'm assuming Viz Media decided to save some time and money by converting the original Tokyopop version into an ebook without any sort of proof reading. I don't really tend to look for these sort of errors when I'm reading a translation, but there were times where the dialog could of been written a bit better then how it was put into the book. Overall, the story was pretty nice, artwork was decent, and the translation is a bit flawed.

This is a so-so introduction to what could be a promising story. The main character Tatsuya is interesting, mainly because of the loss of his parents and the promise he made to his father that he would become a great man. The supernatural stuff is moderately entertaining, but nothing particularly new or different is happening at this point. Nothing bad here, just nothing outstanding either. There was so little actual story in volume 1 I will probably try volume two before really passing judgement on the series.

Tatsuya Tsugawa just lost his parents in a terrible accident one week ago, he's now starting high school, gold digging relatives have imposed themselves onto him, and to top it all off he meets a strange girl who goes by the name of Miyazaki. She provokes bullies, nobody can deny or ignore the strange atmosphere around her, but is there something even more strange about her lurking beneath the surface?

This introduction to AiON didn't grab me. It's got a monster of the week feeling, but I found the opening chapters kind of bland. The lead characters didn't hold my interest, either. Hoping volume 2 picks up the pace, because the premise is promising, and I loved Yuna Kagesaki's Chibi-Vampire.

This manga is awesome!!! I love the horror and the funny parts. I couldn't stop reading! It is so violent and creepy with a touch of humor and a small drop of romance. I liked more than Chibi Vampire, although I have only seen the anime.

Quick thoughts: A bit heavy on the cliches but still decent and has potential. 11/2014

Edit 1/19/16: Reread. An incredibly slow start considering how great the manga would become in the second half.
