When Nightkeeper Dez Mendez goes off grid, PI Reese Montana is hired to track Dez down - Dez's presence for the next cardinal day battle is key to the Nightkeepers' success in staving off doomsday. When Reese catches up with Dez, he manages to convince her to hold off on turning him in, and while Reese agrees to help Dez search for artifacts he claims will aid the Nightkeepers in the upcoming conflict, Reese suspects that Dez may just be pursuing his own agenda.

The pairing of former convict/gang leader Dez and former bounty hunter Reese is a great one. Both of the leads share a connection and a history and the bad boy hero Dez keeps Reese guessing whether he'll finally 'go good', but makes sure to put any doubt Reese has to rest when it comes to just how much he still wants her. I also really liked the fact that in a series about prophecies, it is still possible for the leads make their own destiny.

Icing on the romance is that Storm Kissed brings about some surprising changes for the Nightkeepers gang. I liked the pairing and the twist so much that Storm Kissed is now my favorite book in Andersen's Nightkeepers series of paranormal romances centered around a group of warrior mages trying to save the world from the Mayan end of days prophecy. It also helped that this time Andersen's extensive research and amazing world building (and recap for new fans) is woven far more subtly into the story than some the straight info dumps in earlier books.

While not too many of the supporting characters manage to make it very far out of the background - this really is Dez and Reeses' story - it still was fun to see them even at a distance. (And in case, like me, you were wondering, Andersen did bring JT and Natalia from "Crystal Skull" in On the Hunt to Skywatch but if you blink you might miss them.) Standing out from the pack is Sven, who obviously will be sharing the lead in the next book, Magic Unleashed in Jan 2012, with Cara who is being pulled back into the Nightkeeper fold after fleeing her winikin heritage. Can't wait. And the end is nigh - at least for the series, hopefully not for the world - with Anna's book coming September 2012 and Rabbits' in October 2012.

Ten years ago, she knew she loved him and she knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. Then everything went to hell. Literally. And they drifted apart. He toward perdition as the leader of a street gang, she toward salvation as a bounty-hunter.
Three years ago she put him in jail to save his life and he hated her for it.
One year ago she learned he was dead. Killed by a rival street gang.

Now, she learns he’s alive. A changed man. A good man. He’s been helping the Nightkeepers, a race of magi she always thought were just fantasy, to save the world from the Mayan Doomsday prophecy. But he’s gone now, vanished without a trace and they need her help in locating him.

So much for him being good and on a straight path, huh?

She finds him, though. It’s what she does. It’s what she’s good at. What she’s not good at is dealing with him the way he is now. A good man, a penitent man, a changed man. Or is he? Because she’s getting vibes, and not good ones. He’s hiding something, something big, something dark that belies everybody’s conviction of his sudden goodness.

So she decides to stick around, see how things pan out. See if she can prevent the shit from hitting the fan. See what the hell is going on. Little does she know she’s about to enter into the world war to vanquish all world wars. A world-saving war.

Yep, their timing always sucked.

I was eagerly awaiting “Snake’s” story ever since he showed his mug in the main arc, but I never thought I’d enjoy it that much, immerse myself in it that much. I never thought it would become my favorite Nightkeeper story to date.

But it is. I thought Michael’s story was awesome, but Dez’s journey from gang leader to... (read the story!) beat it fair and square. Like the guy himself, this story went out guns blazing, not pulling punches, fought dirty, fought fair, it was down-and-dirty, gritty and dark. And it delivered on all counts.

The first half of the story arc is done, one big bad vanquished, many questions were answered, and it all sort of came full-circle. The story was reborn, the Nightkeepers were reborn, along with the winikin, ready, willing, and able to continue their fight, now that the cards have been dealt anew, and the Fate finally seems to be on their side.
And I cannot wait to see how that one goes. I’ll be right alongside them for the ride. Because I want to know how it ends. (Well for the good guys, I hope.)

But though this story was firmly rooted into the Nightkeeper universe, it was a bit more detached than the rest of the books. Yes, it was a Nightkeeper story, but most of all it was Dez’s story, Dez and Reese’s story. Of how they came to be what they are, how they overcome all the obstacles in their path, how they rose above it all to become...(read the story!).

Though I didn’t overly much care for the dream-sequence flashbacks, they helped paint the back-story of these two characters, Dez’s trials and tribulations, his slow descend into darkness, and his slow resurrection into the light.
At times I felt he deserved better in terms of heroine, but somehow all Reese’s flaws and setbacks made her perfect for him. Though I still cannot “forgive” her inability to trust him, despite everything she saw, all the changes. She wanted a future with him, she loved him (though she didn’t admit it to herself), but there could not be a future for them without trust. He trusted her while she didn’t trust him. And I wanted to smack her silly. I didn’t get her reservations, despite reading all the flashbacks. I still don’t get it. Thankfully she saw reason, also thanks to Lucius explaining a few details about the various bonds between Nightkeepers.
Anyway, Dez and Reese’s story was pure Nightkeeper fare—dramatic, angsty, painful, angry, sexy, hot, sad, bitter-sweet etc. And I loved it.

It was also great to see the past characters and actually appreciate their involvement in the story, when in the previous book they mostly got on my nerves. And I’m more than glad the Nightkeeper lore, mythos, and legends were better blended into the plot than in the previous books when parts of the story read more like a Doomsday prophecy manual than urban-fantasy fiction. And I’m double glad the winikin are getting new leadership, because Jox was an ass with a megalomaniac complex, telling the Nightkeepers what to do while claiming to be a mere servant in the same breath. I really cannot get over that oxymoron from the beginning of the series.

And with this new leadership there’s also the groundwork for the next book—Sven’s book. Which, judging for the sparkage and bits and pieces of info gained from this book, will be another must-not-miss book in the series.

This books was everything I came to expect from Ms. Andersen’s Final Prophecy series and more. An integral part of the series and main-series-arc, with great characters, wonderful story, amazing action scenes, major drama, imminent-death looming just around the corner, hot sex, hotter guys, tough-as-nails chicks, and amazing pacing.
And a kick-ass, no-hold-bared, major-plot-twist-y final-battle ending. Because I didn’t see it coming until it was “on top of me”. A great move on Ms. Andersen’s part, something to keep the reader buzzing for quite a while, thinking what is in store for us next.

Loved the story, but most of all loved the big twist.

4.5...Action, suspense, romance, battles, blood, evil villain, kick-butt H/h, awesome world-building...lots of good stuff!

Jessica Andersen incorporates Mayan and other Native American lore into this series. The protagonists' goal is to prevent the Mayan Doomsday Prophecy - the end of days - from occurring. The Nightkeepers use their magic, strengthened by their fated mates, to fight the Mayan underworld's gods.

Having read book 1, which left me unimpressed, I was familiar with the world-building/set-up. A friend convinced me to give the Nightkeeper series a second try and recommended Storm Kissed. I'm was thoroughly impressed with the story-telling this time! It's fast-paced, with loads of action. The romance is convincing, using two kids who bonded while living in a gang-filled barrio then separated by unusual circumstances. (Mendez became a crime lord, went to prison, and reformed. Reese was an informant turned bounty hunter.) Good stuff!

Magic Unchained, the story of Sven (Nightkeeper) and Cara (winnikin), is the next book. I'm going to read it, along with book 8 (Rabbit & Myrinne, also Anna's HEA), the series finale! This series is best read in order and surely enhances a person's overall reading experience. I was able to read book 1 and book 6 without a problem. If you are looking for a paranormal romance series where the author properly invests in the lore/world-building, then Nightkeepers is the one for you!

Another great book in Nightkeepers series. I really loved this instalment. Great characters - Dez and Reese were a wonderful couple and their history was very interesting as well as defying. There were some blow-mind developments. Almost reaching the end of this series, Jessica Andersen still manages to keep the readers holding their breath. A fast pacing and well structured plot line. A great read.

Storm Kissed
4.5 Stars

The second of the Triad Mages, Snake (Dez) Mendez, a former gang leader and convicted criminal, has carved a place for himself with the Nightkeepers. But now, a threat from his past has resurfaced and places everything he has worked for in jeopardy. Reese Montana, the bounty hunter responsible for Dez’s original incarceration is recruited by the Nightkeepers to locate Dez after he disappears, only to discover that the real trouble has only just begun and the threat to Dez may just destroy the Nightkeepers before the end time even arrives . . .

Series note: It is crucial that the books be read in order otherwise readers will miss out on important backstory and important detail on recurring characters. I also recommend reading the glossary of terms at the back of the book first, as this will keep the events of previous books fresh and aid in understanding the story.

Storm Kissed is one of the better installments in a series that has such tremendous potential, but only occasionally hits the mark.

Once again, Andersen’s research is impeccable and the details on Mayan, Aztec and Native American lore add additional nuance to the action packed quest plot line. It is fun keeping track of the symbolism inherent in Dez and Reese’s search for the compass artifacts.

Dez and Reese’s are one of the more appealing pairs in the series and their romance is gripping from the start. Dez is an ambiguous hero with many secrets, but a real desire to transform himself and make amends for his past actions. Reese is strong, fierce and loyal although she does tend to overthink things and ignores her gut instincts, especially when it comes to Dez’s motivations. Their chemistry is riveting and their emotional attachment believable.

There are significant developments in the ongoing story arc and the twists and turns in the tale make for compelling reading. It seems that the Nightkeepers and their Winikin are moving in a new and interesting direction, and I am looking forward to Sven and Cara’s book next.

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE OTHER NOVELS!
Okay I love the world Andersen has created, though the 2012 ending of the world is kind of getting annoying in the real world... but that's another story. The story centers around the snake magi Dez Martinez and his childhood love, now hunter Reese Montana. The two had a hard childhood and leaned on each other to get through a horrible neighborhood; until Dez unknowingly takes a statuette from his winikin and it turns him into one of the monsters he protected Reese from.
Now ten years later and free from the prison sentence Reese placed him under, Dez is a new magi warrior. Together with Reese he hunts down his crazed winikin and attempting to divert an early demise of the world.
This novel was far better than the last one and I can only blame it on the characters themselves. It seems that they have more depth and the novel seemed to come alive right from the very start; whereas in previous novels it took a couple chapters. We also see a lot more of Sven (he has a coyote familiar!), the final unattached magi warrior and his potential mate Cara- his winikin's daughter.
I love the culture that the author has created in her Doomsday Prophecy Novels. The series is great! Cannot wait for the next!

I loved this book! As I have said before, this series started out slow for me but has picked up speed. Every book she puts out on this one just gets better and better! The end is mind blowing if you have been following the series and is totally got me excited about the next book! Magic Unleashed will be out soon, and I will definitely be reading that one also! If you are even a bit interested in Mayan lore you will love this series.

One year and sixteen days to zero date. (Going slow for us. Fast for them).

This has Dez’s background story and continues with him going out on his own after receiving a strange note from his former winikin, Keban. The rest of the Nightkeepers get Dez’s former girlfriend, Reese, a former bounty hunter, to hunt for him and bring him back.

The Nightkeepers discover there are 4 compass artifacts needed to form a magic weapon to use in the final battle. The Nightkeepers have 1, but despite the team’s best efforts, the Xibalban have managed to get 3.

Major surprise at the end. Love it.

Fave scenes: the SUV accident, Carlos’s daughter’s link, the peanut butter cup gift and Dex’s ‘real’ explanation to Reece.

Get it at the library or bargain bin, don't pay $ for this. I really wanted this to be good, decent, romance using the Maya cultural references to make it exciting paranormal romance genre.
That might be 3 ⭐⭐⭐ stars. 😗🤓💫

"Could you love a serpent mage?" Um she loved you as a human so I doubt it changed since she keeps chasing you. Oh let's ask again, and again, and again. 🤮
Decent use of language"terms" and explaining magic within storyline. Lots of characters explained so jumping into book 6 wasn't impossible to follow.🤔😃
150 pages max, this book was way, way too long for just repeating same issues same words over, over, over. Blah blah blah. X--⭐X
I bought it for 25¢ at a library sale, ok I'll read it. Don't pay for this.

So she still didn't trust his ass until my boy told her about the jan tan tattoo, that he couldn't tell a lie with the link. So all of a sudden now everything is clear and she can trust him? I would leave her ass. If Lucius wasn't there she would have found a way to reach Strike and would have screwed it all up.

Didn't feel as if Strike should have been King. My gut was right.

Wow! WoW! WOW!! I have not read any of this series...I picked this one up on a total whim and it is book 6 in this series. FANTASTIC BOOK and I would guess that the whole series is this way....so reminiscent of JR Ward Brotherhood series, but these guys are Mages trying to save the world from the destruction that is predicted to happen in 2012. WoW! I cannot tell you how good this book was...it's a fantastic world that Jessica Andersen has created. Now I need to go find the previous 5 books...IMMEDIATELY!!!

I will have my full review up soon...as soon as I can organize my thoughts. Wow! GREAT BOOK!

My Review:
Wow! WoW! WOW! I picked this book up on a total whim- hadn't heard a single thing about it and hadn't heard of the author. That gorgeous cover caught my eye and the story line sounded really interesting so I bought it. It turns out that this is #6 in the NightKeepers series. Although, I haven't read any of the others, I didn't have any issues understanding this complicated story line. Now I fully plan to pick up the other 5 books in the series as soon as possible. Yes, it absolutely was that good- I need to read all of these NOW!

Let me see if I can explain the backstory a bit on this one. Reese and Dez met on the streets of Denver and teamed up to watch each other's backs. They were best friends, living togethers, and totally reliant upon one another. That friendship was starting to morph into something more when Reese was 19. On a storm-filled night, they finally kissed, but something happened during that storm to change Dez. There's a lot more there, but that's the simplified version. Now it's 10 years later and Reese has thought that Dez has been dead for over a year until she's hired by some guys (the NightKeepers) to find him. They swear that he is very much alive.

The paranormal aspect of the backstory is a bit more complicated. The entire series is based upon the Mayan prophesies that the world is going to end Dec. 21, 2012. The NightKeepers are "members of an ancient race sworn to protect mankind from annihilation in the years leading up to Dec. 21, 2012, when the barrier separating the earth and the underworld will fall and the lords of the underworld will seek to precipitate the apocalypse." (as defined in Storm Kissed) These NightKeepers (which Dez is one) are magi and each have their own magic and powers. They work and live together and are trying to keep the world from destructing in 2012.

This book is so deep with so many layers and amazingly written characters. It's extremely well thought-out and very creative. It reminded me a LOT of JR Ward's BDB series- the world is set up in a similar way esp. the king's story line- although I think that this world is even more complex than JR Ward's.

Dez & Reese....just WOW!! I loved both of them so much! They have such a connection from growing up on the street together. Unfortunately, Reese no longer trusts Dez to make the right choices even though there has been a significant change in him- she knows him too well and knows how deceptive he can be. They are explosive together and there is no denying that their chemistry is still fully present- if not actually hotter than when they were younger. Reese is tough, courageous, and smart. Her overall goal is to make the world a better place which is why she feels right at home working with the NightKeepers. She has a bit of a wild streak too, although she has spent the last few years trying to bury it. Being around Dez again has brought it back out. Dez loves Reese and knows that he hurt her which is devastating to him. He has a HUGE protective streak esp. when it comes to Reese. They are awesome together.

I cannot wait to go back and read the previous 5 books and then there are 3 more releasing in 2012. Yippee!!

I have been curious about Mendez since the very first book, when he was hauled to prison and Strike gave up on him. Now a year has passed, and Dez is part of the team. He is big and strong, and he still keeps secrets from his fellow warriors. So when he goes after his mad Winikin when he has send Dez a message, he doesn’t tell the others about it. Who think they have no other choice but to send the bounty hunter who apprehended him before after him. Not knowing that Reese and Dez have a shared past.
Reese is not sure what to make of the crowd of people she just walked into, but she senses danger, and it takes some persuasion from Strike to accept the job. She thought Dez was dead, killed by some gangmembers years ago. But he is alive, and a Nightwalker? Those stories he used to tell her are real? Reese likes to be part of something bigger, to make a difference in the world, and what better way than to help the Nightkeepers? Reese is good at her job of hunting and finding people, and she has little effort following the trail Dez left. And when she finds him, she has to choose between trusting and believing him, or taking him back to the Nightwalkers. But he has changed so much, he is so much the men she fell in love with all those years ago, and not the bad one he became after his Winikin forced him in that last ritual, leaving him with an evil avatar bound to him. Being part of the Nightwalkers has been good for him as well.

Being the last of the Snake clan, or so he believes, Dez is the only one who can stop his Winikin from finding all the 5 artifacts needed to make a great and dangerous weapon. It is meant to make a Snake the next King, and Dez has no ambition for that job. He will not betray Strike.
Things are not going well for the Nightwalkers. Anna is dying, and Strike is losing his powers as well. Perhaps they need a new King? Whole villages are being emptied of inhabitants, as Iago turns them into Makol. The new surveillance is working, but they just are not fast enough to stop Iago. Perhaps they do need a new King, a new look on things. Ever since he broke the 13th prophesy to keep Leah safe, their luck has been bad. The Winikin are also in trouble, since their leader, Jox, left to keep the twins safe. And a democracy is just not working for them, someone has to start leading them again. And they need to find the Winikin in hiding, as many escaped 25 years ago.

Reluctantly the Nightwalkers start following Dez when Strike orders it, and tells them of his nearly killing them all, and instantly they turn up some new leads and solutions. Perhaps it was the best solution after all. Reese keeps sensing that Dez is keeping secrets he should not, and Dez is determined to win her over again. No way is he waiting with his personal life until after the endgame is over. Time is short, and he never stopped loving Reese. Can he convince her that she is his mate? Even though his ancestor tells them she was never meant for him?

With each book, I love this series more. I know the date has come and gone without any trouble, but I still want to know what they went through, and how they saved the world. Each book focuses on a new couple, but the ongoing storyline is just so great and original. I love this world of magic, and fighting evil. Working for the gods, and sacrifice. Nothing ever goes easy for them, they loose a lot of battles, but so far no people. I hope it stays that way. There is also a nice set up for the next book, with Sven and his reluctant winikin. I am looking forward to their story. Especially since Sven has bonded with a coyote.

9,5 stars.

Snake (Dez) Mendez has not had a charmed life, he’s survived the massacre at Skywatch that took not only his family but most of the Nightkeepers, an ancient race who’s duty it is to protect the earth and prevent the apocalypse the end date will precipitate if the beings of the underworld have their way. He’s battled not only being orphaned but also being stuck with a winikin ( a protector and servants of each of the particular noble blood lines of Nightkeepers) who’s lost his mind, so Dez does the only thing he can, he heads out on his own, to the mean streets of Denver where he becomes a street thug.
Reese Montana had no choice but to runaway from an abusive step-father when her mother chose to believe him over her, she finds herself alone on the streets and becomes prey to monsters worse than what she left at home, but Dez see’s something in her that sparks his protective streak and together they form a duo that lasts years, until he breaks her heart by choosing the wrong side. Fast forward ten years and Dez has found his Nightkeeper brothers and sisters and has chosen this time to fight on the side of the good-guys, but he’s mysteriously disappeared and the Nightkeepers hire private detective Reese Montana to find him not knowing their history. There’s more than meets the eye when Reese and Dez team up to go against their enemies, but Reese isn’t sure she can trust him, with her heart or with her life.

Jessica Andersen has given us a whopper of an urban fantasy series where she combines fact with fiction by giving us a plot that comes straight out of Mayan history where she uses their Gods, their legends and their Lights Out date as well. She accomplishes this with very urban dialogue where the men and women of her series have no trouble swinging swords or four letter words, but I never found them offensive as I truly feel they compliment the storylines. Her characters are either straight out of your best dream mixed with those of your worst nightmares. Her hero Dez and heroine Reese are no boy and girl next-door duo, no they’re gritty, don’t mind getting their hands dirty or bloody. Their romance is a study in complications and obstacles and from the first page she’ll have her readers wondering how they’ll ever pull of their HEA. Will they, well my friend you only have to read to find out. The love scenes are visceral, sensual and as earthy as her characters.

If you need a good summer read to help get your pulse racing and your temperature spiking you’ll find that and more in this. The story stands on it’s own, but it might be confusing if you haven’t read the series the background on not only the characters but how the whole reuniting of these super-heros came about.
Ms. Andersen, I know this series is starting to wind down and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for your next couple, but I also find myself wondering what world you’ll take us to when this one is finally saved, or will you save it.

Upon completing Storm Kissed, I have to say this (the Final Prophecy) is such a great series. It is Urban Fantasy at its best, where Jessica Andersen uses Mayan history/mythology, using Gods, Legends, Demons, End of World date and creates our Nightkeepers to try and save the world. She does this using modern day, and it works so very well. Andersen has also done a wonderful job in each book bringing together all the couples (destined mates), and yet keeping all of the characters in the storyline throughout. This is what makes this series so good, is that you feel like part of the team, they are your friends and you care about them.

Storm Kissed was such a good book, with a great couple. I seem to say this after I read each book, but surprisingly each of the mated pairs are well written and you can’t help but like them all. This was Dez (the bad boy) and Reese’s story. Dez surprised me, I did not expect him to be such a great character, and I loved him with Reese. It was an excellent story, and though you knew of Dez from the beginning, you really never meet him until this book. Their relationship goes far back, with a lot of flashbacks telling their history between them; it was a bit complicated, yet interesting. All the Nightkeeper men are tough warriors, but Dez was more so, and the story was exciting, full of action throughout. The amazing thing about this book, is that Andersen catches you with a surprise, as she changes the game in the 6th book of the series, which is rarely done, and with probably only two more books to go to end the series.

I have mixed feelings about Strike’s sacrifice, and what it will mean for Leah, Anna, and Sasha. Strike started all this from the start, so this is an unexpected and interesting move by Andersen. But it did change things for all of them for the better, turning the tide somewhat. I really love Dez and Reese, but not sure I would have done that. So it should be interesting how Andersen will handle this. I loved Cara coming back, and now the leader of the winikin. This was a nice change, and love the coyote “Mac”. It was great to see Anna get better, and I do hope there is something in the future for Anna (not Red-Boar). Then we shall get Rabbit and Myrienne to end it all.

Nevertheless, this is a great series. Not to mention, I am a major fan of Jessica Andersen. I love how she writes her stories, and how she puts a personal touch within the couples.

Storm Kissed is a highly erotic tale that magic lures readers deeper into the story.

Reese Montana met the love of her life years ago in the form of bad boy, Dez. Their love affair was intense and electric. It all ended when Reese, put Dez in jail, trying to protect him while they found the gangbangers who were out to get him. Years later, she learns that he is alive and working with the Nightkeepers, a group of humans that hold magic powers, sworn to protect mankind from the 2012 Mayan doomsday prophecy.

Reese is on the hunt for Dez because they believe he has gone rogue on a mission to track down a powerful artifact. Reese wants to believe that Dez has changed from his bad boy ways but she is scared to trust him again. She surrenders her emotions as she follows Dez on a dangerous mission. The chemistry between Dez and Reese is electric. Unlike her other books, the romance and sexual magic is up front.

Dez is the epitome of a bad boy. A true alpha that will do anything for the woman he loves. What I love about Dez is that he is a bad boy that is shaped by his environment but is not defined by it. He only wants what is best for Reese and he believes he is not worthy of her. He fumbles to correct things between them but it shows his softer side.

Andersen does deliver on originality and creativity. Her Nightkeepers series is a mix of otherworldly creatures and a unique plot line. However, the author normally tends to get bogged down with some of the mythological details, losing the interest of readers and keeping it hard to follow the other aspects of the book. Though there is a glossary in the back of the book that helps readers navigate better, I suggest that readers start the series from the first book because each book adds more details.

Overall, Storm Kissed is another great addition to Andersen’s Nightkeepers series. This series get better with each book.

**Note this review contains spoilers for earlier books in the Nightkeepers series***

This book is my new favorite out of the Nightkeepers series. It definitely marks a much needed turning point in the ongoing saga of the war of the magi against the 2012 doomsday. This volume picks up a year after the effects of the triad spell rocked the surviving magi. Although he was brought back into the Nightkeeper fold by becoming a triad mage, resident bad boy Snake Mendez (Dez) has gone off on a mysterious quest involving his former winkin. Unable to find Dez, Strike, the Nightkeeper's king, contacts former bounty hunter Reese Montana to locate him. Reese and Dez have a complicated history, dating to their days as street kids, and she has ample reason to distrust him. Through the book, their old passion for each other reignites, and they have to navigate prophecies, which could put the growing trust between them and between Dez and his Nightkeeper comrades at risk.

The two main characters are well drawn, and their complicated relationship is interesting. The novel moves the series arc forward in an unexpected and welcome way. Some of the romance plot, however, does feel like it is a rehash of the trust issues from every other book in this series. Additionally, the actual meanings of the prophecies that experienced mages and academics cannot understand might be a bit too obvious to veteran readers. Because I was cheering for the eventual results, however, I'm willing to give this a pass on the grounds that the characters on the ground were too emotionally involved to see the bigger picture. All in all, this a solid romance with a great series arc that had me reading late into the night. 4.5 stars

Jessica Andersen has been writing the dynamic and engaging Nightkeepers series for years so jumping right in with Storm Kissed (number six in the series) is not the way to go. I’ve been enjoying this series from the beginning but with all of the reoccurring characters and ongoing story line, this is not the book to start with. If you’ve been enjoying this series since the beginning like me, this was another great addition to the Nightkeepers stories. Dez has been the community’s bad boy for so long that I’m loving the chance to read more about him, how he arrived at this point in his life, and what comes next for him. Reese was the young girl Dez grew up on the streets with and he hoped he could lead to a better way of life but her love for him kept her on almost the same path. When an incident when they're younger affects them both, Reese tries to better her life while Dez is off to prison. Now that they are thrown back together, can Dez’s mission to try and help the Nightkeepers align with his desire for the one woman he’s always loved?

Each and every one of the books is engrossing and detailed. I’ll admit, because there is such a long release time between each book I do forget things so I need to go back to earlier books for reference. Or I’ll just fake it and continue reading. Other than that I love that this is so much more than a simple paranormal romance. There’s character and storyline growth with each story and with the Mayan calendar coming to an end I’m so excited for the finale of this series. Great read!

This is a series I have been reading on/off over the last few years. I finally have got to the stage where I want to finish something and so I grabbed the remaining three books in this series from the library to read (this is the first of the three and is book 6 in the series). It is a small achievement to finish a series I know, but I will take what I can get in a life that feels I have unfinished things taunting me everywhere I look :-)

The premise of these books is the 2012 doomsday prophecy and the night keepers who are going to save us all from doom. It is VERY heavy in Mayan lore. Th author has a PhD in Genetics and it is obvious by the very detailed research and very complex story line. Lots and lots of lore with names I have no hope of pronouncing and storylines I have no hope of following.

It is part urban fantasy, part paranormal romance and unfortunately I don't really understand what happens most of the time (something about the serpent line which raised some temple and some statue that was talking to him??? - yeah...I am pathetic). I did really like the two main characters in this book (probably my favourite to date) and I like that she writes strong, warrior-esque women!

I like these books enough to finish the series, but I don't like them enough to re-read or to recommend to others as "must reads". I think the fine balance between escapism (light reading) and a plausible, well crafted world is not in these books. The complexity and detail is amazing, but just too much.....

Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from the Nightkeeper that has remained, thus far, largely in the shadows. There was little excitement to learn about the formerly incarcerated Snake "Dez" Mendez. Up until now, all we really heard was that he was big, bad, and spent a lot of time in prison. We saw him captured by a bounty hunter in the first book, but since then, he has been talked about, but not brought into the Nightkeeper world. So what was there to look forward to?

But, just...wow. From just about the first page in this book, Dez became my favorite. There was so much back story on him that the Nightkeepers were unaware of. Dez grew up on the streets in Denver. As a teen, he took under his wing another street urchin, Reese Montana. Dez knew he loved her the minute he saw her, but as she was still barely a teen, he held himself away. Though he cared for her and protected her and started to build a life, he knew that if they got involved, they would never get out of the life that they were living. But Dez's Reese deserved more, and he was determined to give it to her.

I wasn't too sure what to expect from this book, Dez wasn't someone who was shown in a good light at all, a former gangbanger and an ex-con, just how would he fit in with the Nightkeepers. As much as this book was about the fight going on in the now, it was also about the past that Dez and Reese had.

You could tell that Dez was hiding things from the start, you just weren't sure what it was. I thought it was more about his past and yes it was, but it was so much more and not anything I expected. When the secret was exposed I was shocked and even more shocked with how it changed things, it definitely brought about a huge game changer within their little community. It remains to be seen whether it will be a good thing or not, but I have a feeling that it is what needs to happen for them to be successful.

Wow. That's all I can really say with this book. It totally changed the play for the next books in my opinion. I don't like to give anything away so I'll be very cryptic here. But I wonder how the changes will truly play out- no one will feel bitter? The changes are going to be all smooth and fine?

I really did like Dez- although his eating choices sure sounded strange! Not so sure if I liked Reese as much as I liked Dez. Her constantly waffling between trusting and not trusting made me want to reach out and smack her with a clue.

As strange as it may sound, since there are Winikins who were raised on the outside...I have to wonder (and perhaps hope) that there are Nightkeepers that the team jusdt doesn't know about. Guess not since I just saw that there are only two more books in the series! (Which does make sense, but I have issues with letting things go that I like.)

Holy Sh** Batman! Way to come back from two slightly less stellar books! Dez was great (wasn't sure I'd like him), the story REALLY moved forward, things changed significantly and now I'm excited about the series again! Can hardly wait for Sven's book. If you haven't started this series and can deal with the end date prophecy (my book club won't read these because there are people who won't touch these until after 12/21/12 due to superstitions) then I strongly recommend the series. It deals more with an alternate view of the end date prophecy and, except for the more slow moving books 4 and 5, the story flies right along with strong characters, an "evil" that just won't die, and a complex plot.

Storm Kissed was an exciting ride filled with twists and turns not expected.

Reading through the struggles the NightKeepers face in this installment was like riding a roller coaster with your eyes closed and not knowing what the next turn might bring. Dez and Reese are quite a couple. And the unknown of the Triad magic and its effect on Anna was a mystery worth reading.

Strike fans are also in for a ride in this installment. Fasten your seatbelts because its bumpy.

And finally Ms Andersen did a fantastic job setting up the next book where we get to see more of Sven.

I highly recommend reading Crystal Skull which is part of On The Hunt before reading Storm Kissed so you understand who the additional characters are.

Thank you Ms Andersen for another great book!

Well what can I say...this book was fan-freaking-tastic!! From beginning to end...and I loved the way JA provided backstory to Reese and Dez's story. I thought he was going to be a completely different character when he was first introduced. I really like what JA did with his character and, in the end, he becomes the new King of the Nightkeepers. :-) The ending was the best part with the whole proposal though...made me go, AWWWWWWWWW! LOL

It's nice to see the other winikin back in the fold as well and especially Cara. I imagine her and Sven will get back together in the next and potentially last book. Looking forward to it! :-D

Book six of The Nightkeepers (Final Prophecy) series only one year out from the Mayan end of days prophecy (21 December, 2012) where if the Nightkeepers don't get their act together demons from the Underworld dimension of Xibalba will over run and take over the Earth. This is a series with a lot of world building and a storyline which can be a little formulaic but Andersen has kept the series fresh with a major twist at the end of this instalment.

Only two more books to go, Magic Unchained (Sven's story) and the grand finale Spellfire where hopefully the Nightkeepers will avert the Apocalypse in an exciting and action packed finish.

OMG the plot Twists... i can honestly say that for once and author completely freaking blindsided me... i had no clue where she was going through the whole damn story... makes me wish i didn't have so many on my to be read list so i could read it again... cannot wait for the nest once to keep moving in this fantastical world. Mixing history, myth, modern warfare and love: can it get any better. And who can resist to hard as steel lovers finally giving in to their passions and accepting their love once and for all can conquer the evils of the world. GO Ms. Andersen!! 7 of 5 stars!!

Excellent series and plot to entertain each and every time. With each series book it leads you into the next in line almost seamlessly. A carry forward story line. Never thought reading of the prophesied end time would be so riveting. The power of the Nightkeepers in transition and otherwise shows their willingness NOT to take everything at face value. Also, the idea of interpreting these prophesies gives new meaning to "drive me crazy" overall. The characters remain fresh in your mind from prior books and fit well in the ongoing adventure.

I enjoyed this recent addition to the Nightkeepers story. I feel like I missed quite a bit of Dez's transformation/time between the last book and this one. Ms. Andersen left out a leap in character and story development, and I feel like there should have been some sort of time bridge for it. I read a short story in an anthology, but it was very independent of the events at Skywatch. In any event, it's a good read and a very interesting turn of events for the entire storyline.

This is book 6 in the Final Prophecy series and the final book is due out before the end of days based on the Mayan calendar. These books are sexy, romantic, suspenseful, and have lots of paranormal elements. Nightkeepers are hereto stop the end of times with the help of the gods. They have been hidden and protected by their winkins after a terrible tragedy occurred. To fully gain their powers and prepare to battle evil to save the world they must find their true mates.
