The Diamond King

Rate this book
The fighting at Culloden nearly destroyed Alex Leslie. Once a Highland nobleman with a truly brilliant future, Alex left the battlefield with a scarred face and wounded spirit -- and a hatred of the British that still ravages his soul. As captain of a privateer bound for diamond-rich Brazil, Alex captures every British vessel he encounters -- and takes a lovely, but defiant, lady captive...

Alex has every reason to hate Jenna Campbell. The feisty Scottish lass belongs to the British-allied clan he most despises. But somewhere in the wild Brazilian jungle, his dislike gives way to fierce desire -- and the kind of love he thought he'd never find...

3.5/5. Exiled Highlander pirate captures Scottish lady from the hated Campbell clan. She's not her family and he's a pirate with noble blood and a soft spot for orphans. A bit slow.

A lot of talking

An ok book. There seemed to be descriptive talking, and too me that got in the way. I skipped through a lot of pages. It started out as an exciting book, but I lost interest.

Captain Will Malfour was not always a pirate, but instead a Scottish lord named Alex Leslie. A miserable battle at Culloden Moor ended leaving many dead, but leaving Alex Leslie scarred in more ways than one. In an attempt to get back at the British for the massacre at Culloden Alex finds him self protecting ten small orphaned children and pursuing a path he would have never dreamed. As unlikely as the path he takes, is the love he finds along the way. Lady Jenna fills up a void in his heart, but will he be able to overlook the plague her family has been for Scotland as well as for himself, and let himself love her the way she loves him?

A very moving tale of romance set in a historical period. Ms. Potter has a knack for weaving many spectacular events into one cohesive story. You will not be disappointed.

This is the story of Will the privateer who captured a British ship carring Lady Jeanette Campbell who was on her way to Barbados to marry a man her father had chosen. Will, a Scotsman who hate the British with a passion, had no idea his actions would change his and Lady Jeanette's lives for the better. Its a neat story that will grab your attention and keep it until you finish it.

The Diamond King

A very enjoyable yarn. As I am waiting out COVID 19 precautions, reading at home is one of the greatest entertainments. Thanks.

Good Read

The third in the trilogy. Although I must admit I wished there had been a fourth. Very descriptive. Again, as with the others, I felt like I was there.

The Diamond King - G+
Patricia Potter - 3rd in trilogy
Will Malfour wasn't always an outlaw. At one time, he was Lord Alex Leslie, a member of the Scottish nobility. Then comes the massacre of Culloden, when he suddenly finds himself protecting ten orphans. Two years later, he takes on the lucrative position of privateer while headed for the diamond mines of South America. Jenna Campbell has many strikes against her. At age 25 she's a spinster and a bluestocking with a birthmark on her hand--a sure sign of the devil--and, worst of all, her father is a British collaborator. When he sends her off to marry a stranger in Barbados, Alex/Will intercepts the ship and makes her a target for all of his hatred for the British. From war-torn Scotland to the high seas to the jungles of Brazil, Potter takes the reader on a roller-coaster ride as a rake becomes a hero and a courageous, resourceful woman finds love against all odds in this exciting historical.

displaced nobleman rescues children and becomes privateer. Captures ship with a fiesty woman who is strong and independant. Plot G+, sex mild.

The first book in this trilogy, The Black Knave, is my second favorite Scottish romance. This one isn't a favorite, but it is a fun read. I really liked both the hero and the heroine, and how strong both of them were.

Best of the trilogy

An easy adventurous read. I read til 4 a.m. to finish it. Couldn't put it down. I was glad there wasn't a husband beating his wife in this one. Fun adventures and a spirited heroin instead.

Third in a series of Scots dealing with the aftermath of Colloden. It was good to read it again because the characters are 3D and very likable. Great adventure story as well as a romance.

A few years ago I probably would have loved this book. However, Diana Gabaldon has ruined me for other stories about the after-effects of Culloden. Also, I like my romances spicier these days!

Final instalment in the trilogy.. It was just mediocre. Liked the first half better than the last half... the story lost some of its shine once Scotland was left behind but was full of very likeable characters, especially Meg and Robin, loved the epilogue! ⭐️⭐️ 1/2 of 5

The historical timeline and events were excellently done in this book and the entire trilogy. I gobbled that part up. I even enjoyed the romance in this last book more than the others but there were things that annoyed the hell out of me.

Nothing ruins a romantic moment more than too much introspection and repeated thoughts. Who has all those thoughts while in the heat of the moment? And FYI authors, we readers get the gist of things like worries and trepidations the first time you have the character think them. You don't have to pound it into our heads by repeatedly writing it over and over. It just makes me want to throw the book.

I also think the story could have been shortened. I think sometimes it just gets monotonous to have to go through every detail of every adventure. I think the actual romance suffered because of this.

Despite my complaints, I did enjoy the book.
