Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.

This could very well be the jolliest seasonal book I read this Christmas for it is extremely colourful (as the cover indicates), Santa is an extremely jolly person (as he should be) and then to cap it all there is Noddy and his pal Big Ears. What could be better?
It is a lovely story, too, from the moment Noddy learns from Big Ears that Father Christmas is visiting Toyland and will be staying with Big Ears' brother, Little Ears, who once lived at Father Christmas's Castle. Noddy is in awe and doesn't know how to handle the situation as he desperately wants to meet Father Christmas but is afraid that he might make a fool of himself. Big Ears assures him everything will be fine and that he can run Big Ears to his brother's house and wait outside to see Father Christmas emerge at some point.
Noddy is so excited. And as the great day approaches Noddy makes up and sings a song he has just made up about Father Christmas. His Toytown friends hear Noddy singing it and Mrs Tubby, Wobbly Man, Miss Fluffy Cat, Mr Jumbo, Mrs Noah and Sally Skittle all want to go to Little Ears' house so that they can join Noddy in singing the tribute to Father Christmas.
Father Christmas duly arrives and Noddy waits outside Little Ears' house until he emerges. And he does so sooner than expected because Noddy and his friends sing the song loudly and when Father Christmas hears it he comes out to investigate. He asks Noddy about the song but Noddy is so awestruck that he loses his tongue. Eventually he manages to tell the tale and Father Christmas is thrilled. So thrilled indeed that he asks Noddy if he will take him to visit some Toytown places so that he can view the work going on in making toys for the children's Christmas presents.
Noddy delightedly agrees and of they go to Bouncing Ball Village, Teddy Town, Humming-Top Village, Wooden-Engine Village and Doll's-house Town all of which are in full production of their toys ready for Father Christmas. And Noddy has some exciting adventures when he is at each location.
Then Father Christmas tells Noddy that there is one more place he wishes to go and that is N & B Works. Noddy wonders what this place could be but doesn't like to ask Father Christmas so he just drives him there. And when he sees what N & B Works is making he has a really big surprise. Can you imagine what it is and what N and B stands for?
Suffice it to say that at one point Noddy has his car piled high with N and B toys and, to give you a clue, Noddy remarks, 'When I see these toys I feel Very, Very Important'!
Later when Noddy gets back home he relates his experiences to Big Ears and then he and his Toytown friends lay on a massive party for Father Christmas. And Noddy made up a new song to sing to Father Christmas. It ended with 'But I've something BIG inside of me,/And that's my love for YOU -/My love for ALL of you!'
As I said, it is an extremely jolly book and I apologise if I can't get away from one of my childhood heroes because, as I have mentioned previously, Noddy books were my very first collectibles.

I thought it was very generous of Big Ears to allow Noddy to look in the window and see Father Christmas during dinner.

Every year I start with Children's books, to "train myself" (having a Grand Daughter who is almost one year old).
Father Christmas is coming to town!!!!
When Noddy finds out Big Ears is going to have dinner with him, he is very curious and happy... Noddy makes the most joyful song about it and Father Christmas will then ask little Noddy to take him in his car!!!

For some reason I got this in my Christmas stocking. However I enjoyed it immensly, especially Big Ears being a massive cock to Noddy, the appearance of the controversial Golliwog-town, and Father Christmas ordering Noddy to run down the Skittles in his car because "they're made for it". What wonderful bitch Blyton was.
