An honorable hero makes this worth reading. Christian will protect Emalie even though they had no choice but to marry. Will Emalie be able to win his heart while protecting her own secret? This is just lovely.

i'm gonna say this is a 3.5 for me. it starts out REALLY strong. the first half of the book is excellent. the characterization is good, the setting and world building are good. i love the interactions with eleanor. it falls apart for me a bit at the end because of the whole deal with appearing before the king or whatever. that whole conflict just really takes away from what should be the focus of the story-the relationship between the main characters. i think if the issue with king john had been less in the foreground-or honestly just resolved after the first chapter, the book could have spent its time focusing on the growth of our main characters, which to me is far more interesting. dnf this time

Christian Dumont is a hero who was imprisoned and left for death due to his fathers treatory aginst king and country. Within days of being hanged he was granted a reprieve, marry Emalie Montgomerise and all will be forgotten. As can imagine, it is a gift no man can refuse. Thoughts*** Yes, I would read again. Our hero stepped into the relationship with a strong hateful alpha male attitude. There were some unfair treatment of the heroine. The disagreements was quickly corrected with the couple developing a loving relationship. The antagonists were present, but was not a big distraction from hero and heroine’s love story.

3 stars, I liked it and will donate. it's a sexy love story. We join the story after a father backs the wrong king, throwing the sons into prison, and a noble girl (woman?) is pregnant after a rape by the king's son. Two people who need each other's protection, even if they are forced into it, attractive tho they are, realize the are just pawns in a bigger game if politics.

I am in a Terri Brisbin phase and I think I will be spending my time hunting her backlist down.

I really like this one - it was well balanced.

There was something I just didn't like about this book. I think it was the fact that he believed he couldn't win, not really a hero's thinking.

Wow what an epic tale of love, scheming, good intentions, honour, pride, loyalty, friendships, protectiveness.
