A collective work of art whose time has come. Of lasting value for all lovers of literature and the erotic, this is a glorious, groundbreaking celebration of black sensuality, including works by Alice Walker, Ntozake Shange, and many more.
this book is still probably the best erotic book/anthology i've ever read. sensual, delicate, raw, intellectual, beautiful and classic. It'll never go old, will never become boring. You do not have an erotic book collection unless this book is included.
This is one of my favorite books of all time. Read it when I was in college and writing my own poetry. This is true literary art and not the smut that is being considered erotica now. Highly recommended.
This is the most amazing anthology of erotica I've ever stumbled across. Okay, that's not saying much at this point in my life, I'm kind of just beginning to stumble across this genre. But let me just say this. This book was put together by African-American Literature Professors. The pieces collected are by writers of EVERY genre out there, and there is poetry, prose, fiction, and more. And they are INCREDIBLE. This book is literary, beautiful, sensual, intelligent and educational. The essays throughout, written on Afro-American issues, Feminism, Inter-racial relations, and Erotica itself are incredibly well-written, poignant and intellectual. I recommend this book to everyone who loves to read!
I read this book at the end of junior high school when I was really into works of erotic fiction. My goal at that time was to become a erotic novelist so I poured myself into books of the genre. Black Erotica is a collection of sensual works of writing, from poetry to short stories written by a wonderful mosaic of people representing all parts of black culture. It is a great example of how sensual, free, loving black eroticism can be. I owned this book and this was my very first foray into erotica written by black people. I was use to reading books by white writers and their views of eroticism so it was very eye opening for me as an African-American woman. The current erotica in black novels can't hold a candle in my opinion to the way the words in this book were strung together. Not demeaning, far from overly masochist but very sensual.
I read this book before the raunchiness known as Zane was released to the masses. Unlike erotica circa 2009, these short stories manage to capture the essence of erotic writing: stories with a sexual theme.
This book covers a gamut of erotic delights from plays, prose, astrology to poetry. It includes beautiful works of arts for gay and straight, from decent to smutty, written by people of color from all over the world and essayists, novelists, and poets. I've read this book so much, the binder is coming off and I haven't completed reading the entire book yet. If you love erotica, you must have this book. And if you're not sure, but want to play with your sensual side, you must have this book.
An eclectic assort of short story, poem and verse. Sensual, arousing and provocative. For African Americans viewing our sexualized selves free from restraint and stereotype. In Black Erotica we become lovers, loveable, feeling and felt people worthy of intimacy.
A beautiful collection of works. There's something in here to reach for no matter your mood. Romantic, heartbroken, lustful, give-me-the-goods... They are all represented here.
I enjoyed the format of the book. All of the poems, letters and stories were noteworthy. Some of them I personally enjoyed more then others but I am very happy that they were all encluded. Do your self a favor and read it..or at least the sections that interest you as how I am very sure that you will find something that stirs your interst!
I love this work of sensuous poems written about sexuality that is black/brown/golden/cinnamon and more. My favorite is My All Day Sucker. *rolls eyes into my bangs* Loved it! A must own for anyone who loves the sensuous or erotic.
It's a remarkable collaboration of erotica I have every read. My favorites are: "New Year's Eve Celebration" (I'm a New Year's Eve Baby), "A Dinner Invitation", "Sexy Signs".
Beautiful, hot, sexy, surprising, diverse, powerful, brutal, tender. I could go on. It's an amazing collection that has everything you could ask of it.
An ode to the highest quality research in the under-represented passions that have shaped Western culture but always through the lens of the Other. This collection smooths out the differences between that have for too long been considered a fetished conception of lust and desire. The overwhelming humanity should make the reader quiver in the most erotic sense. Western culture needs more of what has rumbled beneath what it has been so unwilling to reveal. Brilliant. Necessary. Black. Proud. Robust. Frequent.
A great anthology of black erotica that contains prose, poems, short stories and essays from authors spanning the African diaspora. I love that my body and mind were both stimulated. Definitely a book that every lover of erotica and beautiful storytelling should own and revisit time and again.
