Heather Brewer is the pseudonym of Zac Brewer…but you can call him Z.
Zac is the NYT bestselling author of The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series, as well as The Slayer Chronicles series, Soulbound, The Cemetery Boys, The Blood Between Us, and more short stories than he can recall.
He grew up on a diet of Twilight Zone and books by Stephen King. He chased them down with every drop of horror he could find—in books, movie theaters, on television. The most delicious parts of his banquet, however, he found lurking in the shadowed corners of his dark imagination. When he’s not writing books, he’s skittering down your wall and lurking underneath your bed. Zac doesn’t believe in happy endings…unless they involve blood.
He lives in Missouri with his husband, two children, and four furry overlords that some people refer to as “cats”.
I found out about the Chronicles of Vladimir Todd in my recommendation list from a different GR account. At first, I wasn't curious or has this desire to read it even though I'm having a "Vampire streak" in my Read list before. But after exhausting myself with dystopian themed books, I finally gave this book a chance.
Vladimir Tod is the only vampire living in Bathory. Life isn't easy for Vlad specially after his parent mysterious death. As he went through the changes brought about by school life and his vampire nature, Vlad must go through a series of trial to control his power and eventually try to disproof the prophecy about the powerful Pravus.
Vladimir Tod isn't my typical vampire - he isn't popular and has none of the "vampire mojo" I'm used to see in the other vampire series I've read. And that was refreshing. Vlad, as a character, is so real to me. Heather Brewer made him an ordinary school kid - who has ups and downs, girl crushes, problems with dating. Aside from that she made Vlad appealing with his powers and the Prophecy about the Pravus. The other characters amused me too. Henry is adorable. He reminds me of Ron Weasley - in the basis of his loyalty with Vlad. Their friendship is real - drudge or not drudge. And Otis - I love this man. I was crying in the end part when his secrets were revealed. I wish the part of Nelly dying could be change. That was the downside of this series, I think. Aside from the characters, I truly commend the author on how she wrote the whole series. The flow, and that cliffhanger was wham! I wasn't expecting Vlad's dad to be alive and the mastermind of everything. I pity Vlad for that outcome. Deception by your own family, the thought will wrecked me and left me in rage. However, Vlad wasn't all like that. His growth as a character made me love this series so much. I wish it didn't end that way.
Although I don't like Josh at all, I'm planning to read his POV.
A lot of my friends hated this series so I was reluctant to read it, but it turned out I really liked it a lot. I love how Vlad's character is so typical but still so unique and the book had so many parts that seemed unintentionally funny but I laughed anyway. I couldn't put the books down for very long and there were many plot twists such as Thomas Tod and Joss. Like an anime, the story is nearly the same in each book, but I still found it interesting. The only problem I had with the books is Snow. I'm sorry, but I hate her. She seems like the kind of girl who just wants attention to me and I don't know what Vlad sees in her besides her black attire and her so-called 'strength'. I liked Meredith a bit better (and that would surprise you as I am all for the whole 'goth' thing).
This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE series. I have been reading this series for about 8 years and i read it about two to three times a year. The writing is just amazing and as each book goes along and Vlad gets older the writing almost seems to follow suit. There's a certain attitude with each book that seems to change just slightly as he gets older. I must say my heart aches every time I read due to my knowledge of what's to happen next but yet I still find that every reread is like reading it for the first time. All of the plot twists and dramatic events never cease to make me laugh, cry, get embarrassed or just stress me out. As someone who is about to begin their senior year I find Vlad quite relatable and his adventures in highschool for the better part relatable, minus the whole evil-dudes-trying-to-kill-me-every-year-of-my-high-school-life. I read the book for the first time the summer of fourth grade and when I entered fifth I bought this exact box set and let me be the first to say these books are very well loved. Excellent read to remind me of better times and even make my stressful years in highschool seem a little less intense. 11/10 this will always be a series I will forever love and I cannot wait till my third copy of this series comes in so I can read these books without the pages falling out.
I read this book series when I was 11. I’m currently 23 and this is one of the first book stories I remember vividly and it quite literally started my obsession with reading. Before I read this story at 11, I quite literally hated reading with a passion. So it was weird going from a 11year old who loathed reading (so much people wouldn’t be surprised if they caught me setting the books on fire) to suddenly reading this damn book series within 5 days. And wanting more only to realize I hated how the series ended because I wanted to know more and couldn’t stand not being able to know what happens after everything.
Quite honestly totally recommend reading this book series in middle school because I think it’s the best time period to read this series just due to the mindset you typically have at that age.
ADDICTING SERIES! I’m a sucker for vampire books that are well written, no corny stuff, no basic plot line, but creative and new and this series has delivered just that. It’s funny, unique, and creative. I love love loveee this series! I’ve read it multiple times and it seems like each time I read it, I catch a new detail or a new interpretation of the story. Vladimir is an easy-to-love character and the author does a fantastic job at creating a string of characters to go with the plot. 5.0/5.0, more if I could. It will keep you hooked, give it a chance!
This book is very thrilling. It has lots of hidden messages that concern real-life histories, such as the name of towns and the names of characters etc. There is also a lot of plot twist throughout the book. Many people would enjoy this book if they like things such as werewolves and witches or vampires. The book gets more and more enjoyable the more you read. You cant go wrong with this series!
I requested the first book from my local library: 8th Grade Bites. I chose this book because I love horror and I am almost done with 8th Grade. I only got the first one, I would definitely read the other 4 but I have so many books I would love to read like 15 of them I recently got.
I am only 14 years old, but this book was so good. It wasn't too scary, but it was a little bit.
One of my favorite series of all time. From watching Vlad grow into the man/vampire he's meant to be, while also facing the normal challenges of adolescence, to the horrors of his life. This series is wonderful. The characters are all realistic and believable. 10/10 would recommend.
These are just fun and dumb. Like I love reading them and cracking myself up with what happens. My sister and I read them together the first time and we also go back and talk about them. Such a weird series to come across but just mainly comedy to me.
read this when i was in the 4th-5th grade! these books were such good reads for my age. if i were to read it again, however, i’d probably find it cringey and not like it :/
it was an amazing series to read when i was younger! loved it.
I absolutely loved this book series I love the way that heather brewer describes things I love the characters everything about these books I loved and couldn't get enough of as a teen.
The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod #1 by Heathen Brewer is about an eighth grade boy, who is, a vampire. His mother was human while his father was a vampire, They died when he was young so now his mother's best friend looks after him. Her name is Nelly.
I've never read anything like this, and it was a pleasant surprise. I loved the writing style, and how original the plot line was. I thought this book was hilarious, with the witty comebacks to the bully taking ballet classes. This book did not drag out parts like most books do. It left me baffled at some parts, and at some points I was wondering who was a good guy and who wasn't. I also got so into the book I was gasped at the many plot twists. I love when I am so into a book it, that it makes me laugh, tense, and astounded. This book has done all three, which is fantastic.
I did not enjoy the love interest in this book. She was the basic Maryjane, I thought she was boring and the classic "girly girl". I wished the author would've put more effort in her personality, and made her a bit more interesting. Which bring me to the details in this book. It only describes the most important parts, while leaving everything else behind. I would've liked more information on the less important people in this book, or anything besides the main character and his best friend, Henry. The length was also a bit short for my liking.
The tone of this book was a lighthearted and dark at the same time. This book made me think about myself and how I should be proud to be who I am, no matter what race. I'm just me. (words from book.) which brings me to the theme. Which is to be proud of what you are no matter what color or country you come from.(or whatever kind of mystical being you are.)
This book series was incredible. It replenished my faith in vampire fiction after twilight had completely killed it. I picked up eith grade bites simply because at the time there was nothing else around me to read that eveb remotely interested me, so i thought i'll give this book a try. I found myself unable to out it down shortly there after and before i knew it i was plowing my way through the entire series in no time flat. This sereis in an excelent read because it isn;t cheesey, corny, emo, or cliche like most modern vampire books seem to be. It's got good, action, great story, good comedy, loveable characters, and even a few stabs at twilight. I would reccomend it for anyone who enjoys vampire fiction or just good fiction in general
5 Stars: Read again... for slayer books My absolute favorite and will read again and again. I strongly recommend! It has outstanding qualities. The characters are wonderful and surprising and multi-dimensional. The writing is luring, engaging, and well-crafted enough to keep me interested from cover to cover and beyond. The plot is astonishing with twists and turns weaved into a well thought and planned story. There’s no pretense and romance was well balanced and done entirely correctly with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and incredible, undeniable chemistry. Predictability is at an all-time low. With the exception of series based books that follow the same path but are just as good. Overall, Favorite, must read again, recommend!!!
I LOVE this series! I would always wait for the next book to come out because i couldn't wait to see what would happen next. The struggles that Vlad goes through as his vampire senses get stronger are very interesting and the ending to the series surprised me because i hadn't expected it all. This is a book that is definatly well written and leaves you wanting more. I'm so glad that such a great series didn't have a crappy ending like some do. The ending made sense and it was like a happily ever after sort of thing. I liked it a lot and hope that people that love vampires will read this series and think so as well.
I LOVE these books! The twists in turns in this story are amazing and breathtaking. There were some grammar errors that were sort-of distracting like Heather, (the author) said that D'ablo's name was Di'ablo, but I didn't really care. Any way, I'm glad she decided to not use the Elysian code too much in the story because I thought it was pretty confusing. She used enough details and set the story up very well.
The characters are practically alive in this book! Such an amazing author she is! I was so disappointed when I had to say good-bye to Vladimir.
I thoroughly enjoyed the series and not just because I envisioned the main character looking like one of my little brothers. Still when I asked my husband if that was what teenage boys were really liked he said no... maybe it's hard for most women to write in the mind set of an adolescent male, but I think it's what teen females hope they're like deep down inside :) Not a very deep intellectual read, but what I like to call "mind candy"
Sorry, but I did not like this book at all. I just couldnt get into the book. Much less the whole series. It just didnt make sense. Many people said I would like it, but I didnt. It wasnt like the Twilight Saga, because they are both about Vampires, that live in a small town. But it just wasnt that interesting to me.
Seeing the cover of the book "The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod" made me just want to pick it up and read it right away. Reading the first series "Eighth Grade Bites" made me want to read over and over again. After a few days I found out that the second series was out I was anxious of wanting to read the second series.
I read these books starting in 6th grade, and I thoroughly enjoyed them at the time. I feel as if I reread them, I would love them just as much. Heather Brewer is a wonderful author who knows how to end on a cliffhanger that makes you need to keep reading. Truly captivating series, I cannot wait to get my hands on the Slayer Chronicles, despite the fact that I'm rather late on their debut.
the chronicles of Vladimir Tod is an amazing seires of a young teenage boy who is a half vampire and also the Pravus. you need to read all of the five books they are all amazing and i am always wanting more when i finish reading them.
