About the author

Daisy Meadows is the pseudonym used for the four writers of the Rainbow Magic children's series: Narinder Dhami, Sue Bentley, Linda Chapman, and Sue Mongredien. Rainbow Magic features differing groups of fairies as main characters, including the Jewel fairies, Weather fairies, Pet fairies, Petal fairies, and Sporty fairies.

Narinder Dhami was born in Wolverhampton, England on November 15, 1958. She received a degree in English from Birmingham University in 1980. After having taught in primary and secondary schools for several years she began to write full-time. Dhami has published many retellings of popular Disney stories and wrote the Animal Stars and Babes series, the latter about young British girls of Asian origin. She lives in Cambridge, England with her husband and cats.

Sue Bentley was born in Northampton, England. She worked in a library after completing her education and began writing for children once her own began school. Bentley is the author of the Magic Kitten, Magic Puppy, and S Club series and lives in Northamptonshire.

Linda Chapman has written over 50 children's fiction books, including the following series: My Secret Unicorn, Stardust, Not Quite a Mermaid, and Unicorn School. She lives in Leicestershire with her husband and daughters.

Sue Mongredien was born in 1970 and grew up in Nottingham, England. She has published over 100 children's books, including the following series: The Adventures of Captain Pugwash, The Magic Key, Frightful Families, and Oliver Moon. She has also contributed many titles to the Sleepover Club series and written picture books. Mongredien created the Royal Ballet School Diaries under the pen name Alexandra Moss. She lives with her family in Bath, England.

Yeah! We finished this book. AARGH. Coco chose it, loved it, and read it on her own after we were finished. I hope we are finished with these kind of fairy books. I will let her read as many as the library as she can find. But, I'm so glad she can do it on her own now! It is a good book if it "hooks" children into reading,and this does its job. But, I prefer other kinds of books during our precious read aloud time! Maybe one star is a little harsh . . . Coco would give it four stars. The other Daisy Meadows fairy books don't seem as bad. The pet fairy thing . . . that is too much of a stretch for me.

I liked this book because it was an adventure. It had puppies. I love puppies! This pet shop keeper owned one last dog. He told Kirsty and Rachel to take the dog for a walk. On the walk they found another loose puppy with no owner. The collar said "sunshine" but no address. Rachel asked Kirsty if it may have been Lauren's pet. Lauren came but the goblins took the puppy on their scooter. They landed in a bounce kingdom, but the owner wasn't there. That was a relief. The dog who didn't have an owner got his owner. Lauren got her puppy back.

Ho-hum... boring to me. My girls like them OK. They love the pet ones the best b/c the pets are teeny tiny. But still, a big yawn for this whole series - they fill the time between finding a Magic Tree House book or a Junie B. book or a Nancy Drew Notebook Series book we have missed.

Jack Frost wants a pet but in Fairyland the pets are all sentient and choose their owners themselves. Jack Frost steals all the pets from the Pet Fairies; not only are the fairies sad but they cant do their job protecting lost and homeless pets on Earth. Fortunately, the pets escape to the village of Wetherbury where Kirsty lives and Rachel is staying for one week of holiday. The series ventures to some local areas (like the park and neighbours) and also to Strawberry Farm, the stables, the Spring Show etc.

There are seven Pet Keeper fairies and they are: Katie the Kitten Fairy, Bella the Bunny Fairy, Georgia the Guinea Pig Fairy, Lauren the Puppy Fairy, Harriet the Hamster Fairy, Molly the Goldfish Fairy and Penny the Pony Fairy.

"Fairies with their pets I see,

And yet no pet has chosen me!

So I will get some of my own,

To share my perfect frosty home.

This spell I cast, its aim is clear:

To bring the magic pets straight here.

Pet Keeper Fairies soon will see,

Their seven pets living with me."

Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic.
Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies.
On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon!
If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!

When I was in elementary school, I read these books but I remember finding them relatively boring. The premise of them is fun, because what kind of elementary level kid didn't like fairies? I mean I am sure there are plenty, but the thought is still there. I wanted to re-read one of these books from a future teacher standpoint. I still think these videos are perfect for younger readers because they are introductory chapter book, and begin the climb of books without pictures. On the other hand, they still remain relatively unentertaining.

My 5 year old found one of these books at our library. She was drawn to it because she loves rainbows and loves to color everything in rainbow color order. I didn’t know anything about the series but did a quick review of the series online. It seemed pretty mild without any hidden agendas. This is the first book of the series I have read, it has a fun dose of imagination with fairies from fairy land that make their appearance.

I find it really funny that the covers of multiple books in this series have the fairies hugging their pets, casually concealing their bare midriffs (so conservative parents are more likely to buy? Probs)

This was my very first Rainbow Magic book. This book is about two girls who find Lauren the puppy fairy. But, the fairy is in trouble!! She needs the two girls to help her find her puppy. The two girls actually find the puppy and return it to the fairy.

this book was more special because of the puppies!! it’s surprising that it wasn’t difficult to get the puppy (sunny) that the goblins took away from lauren back. besides lauren getting sunny back, it had a happy ending because the first dog, bouncer or barney got adopted :)

I like when Kirsty and Rachel find the puppy and the puppy is so cute, and Lauren the puppy fairy is really beautiful. They try and find the puppy but Kirsty and Rachel help the fairies to find it.

Kristy and Rachel are at the spring fair and there is an animal shelter booth. There are four little puppies and when the fair is over they guy who owns the pet shop lets Rachel and Kristy take the last dog for a walk. While they are walking him they see another puppy but no one was walking him and he didn't have an address or anything on his collar, just a name tag. His name was Sunny. He is Lauren's magical puppy. The puppy plays with Sunny for awhile then they keep walking. When they're walking they see a girl and she really liked the dog and she bought it from the animal shelter so the last puppy finally had a home. At the end Lauren brings Sunny back to Fairy Land.

This is the fourth book in the Pet Fairies series by the group of authors who go by the pseudonym Daisy Meadows. This one is about puppies and although it took our oldest daughter a couple of days to read it (she's been reading one every day!), she says it's one of her favorites. I think that's because she really wants a puppy.

Jan 2012 update: our youngest is now immersing herself in this series and is reading them very quickly, too. As inane as I thought they were, I love that this series is making readers of our girls. Hooray!

Lauren the Puppy Fairy

This is another in the Pet Fairies series of books. In this case, the missing pet is a puppy. Rachel and Kirsty a Spring Show (sort of a county-fair type of thing) and there is a pet shelter display. All but one of the puppies is quickly adopted.

Rachel and Kirsty meet Lauren, the Puppy Fairy, and they search for her missing pet, once again having to deal with the goblins (who are so inefficient and stupid that it's no wonder Jack Frost is always in a bad mood.)

Another cute story.
