Author Jaz Primo is one of those rare male writers taking a stab at paranormal romance. I state this to say, his gender will not be taken into consideration with this review. Mr. Primo’s work will receive my honest thoughts based on the time I spent with his characters Katrina Rawlings and Caleb Taylor.

To put it mildly, the book had some problems. It reminded me of a bad one night stand where you don’t see the hump on his back until the morning light filters in the room or you reach the 27% point of this book. The early scenes delivered a concept that I could buy into. Katrina, our heroine, decides to die by sunburn then changes her mind. She runs for shelter to a shed type structure or garage and crawls under a tarp. She is badly burned internally and externally. She hears a child come into the room and realizes he knows she is in there as well. He finds her under the tarp which I think is over a car. She needs blood but won’t kill the child instead she befriends him by telling him she is an angel. She uses her angel status to get the boy to call someone and get blood delivered. She discovers the boy’s name is Caleb and he is eight. He is a brave little soul and does all he can to help her and keep her a secret while she heals. Well, Caleb might be a sweet child but he is being raised by an abusive father who attacks and beats him while Katrina is watching from under the tarp. Of course, being a vamp she did what she had to do to protect the child and erase his memory. So far, so good right. Well it’s the last scene of the book that had any resemblance of balance and reasonable editing.

Flash forward either 18 or 20 years, Katrina has decided that Caleb has grown into a hot little number. She wants him and takes him in a 3-4 sentence love scene. It was one of many 3 to 4 sentence love scenes that were supposed to reinforce our appreciation of Katrina and Caleb’s love. Example:

“She moved slowly and deliberately until she was lying atop him. Her lips met his, kissing him hard. Then time stood still as their bodies conveyed mutual love and longing. Later, she lay across his body lazily, her hand caressing his face.”

At about 70% in, I faced the un-thinkable truth…I don’t like Katrina, she is mean and disrespectful of Caleb most of the time. Caleb is a weak insecure coward all of the time. He is straight-up terrified of making her mad through most of the book. There is some reference towards the end about opposites attracting one another… right. Tools such as humor, exotic settings, or evil-genius protagonist were not used to salvage this thing. Bottom-line, a margarita weekend with a decent editor and a few close friends could have fixed all the problems with this book and brought it up a couple of stars. I am really disappointed that such a promising start suffered for mostly fixable problems.

I'm skipping the rest of this series. Good luck to those who decide otherwise.

Here is a different twist, the female is the vampire in the dominant lead and the male is the human as submissive partner. I found it lacking in action, the romance is there, but its more like Katrina is a mother hen that wants to protect Caleb from everything. Caleb is very submissive and as most of you know I don’t like a heroine to roll over and do what she is told to do, I like a little tension added. I liked some aspects of the story, but I found Katrina a very bland vampire with not a lot of special abilities. I did like how Katrina is up front with Caleb about her being a vampire and she gives him a set of rules to follow. There is romance with just the mention of kissing, so I can see this very easy being a great book for a YA. This is a urban fantasy series. I felt Jaz does a good job in writing both Katrina and Caleb and her friends. I can see this series growing more over the next few books. I suggest this to anyone who likes an alpha female and to YA readers.

When the I Am A Vampire And I am Going To Suck Your Blood thing gets creepy.

Okay, so first off, I get it. I get the whole let's turn the tables around and make the male physically weaker, the female possessive and strong. But it's just sooo creepy in this book.

I like strong willed females, but I don't like females who walk all over their men. I'm surprised the lead male (Caleb) didn't have indents of Katrina's boot heels stamped into his forehead.

I'm as Independent (yes a Capital I) as a female can get, and if a wet blanket of a man like Caleb was to ever cross my path I would crush him. And I am not a Vampire nor a mean person.

He is weak. Not in a physical way, and it's not that he's sensitive (sensitive men are hot in their own way), I mean weak willed. Like ... you look at him the wrong way and he folds in on himself. I don't like weak men who look like they might cry when I've got something to say (my personal opinion here, guys).

Okay, so she (Kat) murders his dad (albeit an abusive drunk dad ... but still his dad), stalks him from early childhood to manhood (uber creepy, she watches him like a mother figure then decides he's become attractive), f**k's him, drinks his blood in a Yummy You Are So Tasty way as often as she can, becomes dementedly possessive, then locks him up (for weeks) underground in her lair and cuts him off from everything and everyone because a crazy vampire from her past is out to kill him ... just like she brought about the untimely demise of some of Kat's other ... pets.

When I say she locks him up I'm talking no phone, no internet access, no fresh air. Total seclusion. And she ignores him most of the time as she works to "save him". She refuses to tell him what's going on, and scolds him when he tries to assert any form of self-sufficiency. Caleb should have been running the other way screaming. Oh right he couldn't because her ultimatum to him was, "Stay, give me complete control over you like Lady Dracula Gone Bad, and I'll protect you." Or "Leave and die because I won't protect your sorry ass if you decide to leave me and escape my talons of woe and despair." (Totally paraphrasing there, the writer was more eloquent in delivering this insanity).

The girl needed to take some prozac, lie down, and sort herself out.

And Caleb ... my god. He goes along with it. All of it. He even encourages her crazy behavior. He has a few "fits" here and there, but all she needs to do is belittle him, tell him how stupid he's being, and all is well again. Worse, he is AFRAID of her. Like, properly scared she's going to hurt him.

The beginning of this book was amazing. AMAZING! It sucked me in and I was close to forsaking all other vampire books for this one. Then the rest of it happened, and it was like the author had snuck into my house and was repeatedly slapping me with this spiel of a crazy female under the guise of a loving, strong willed girlfriend.

I'm strong willed, that b'tch be crazy.

I don't give one or two stars very often because most books sit okay with me, but this gets a 2.5. I liked the concept, the writing style is great, but god those characters. *screams silently* It was just too creepy, and not in a sexy way. It was creepy in a, I need to shower, read the bible, and sleep with a blade under my pillow, way.

I considered for a split second if the problem here was that the author is male and wrote from Kat's point of view more than Caleb's. But no. It is clear to me this author is an amazing writer, but just got the whole dynamic between these too wrong (again, my opinion, no doubt many will love this book). I actually think if Caleb grew a pair, asserted some dominance, and Katrina swallowed some of her arrogance before it choked her, this book would be damn near perfect.

In closing, I always encourage people to read books for themselves. What's good for the goose....

Just love this book. A great vampire book. The lead vampire is a tough, take no crap, killing machine who does have a soft side when it comes to her mate. Thats right this vamp is a girl. She falls in love with a mild young man and does whatever she can to protect him. This is an amazing book packed with love, action and unforgettable characters. I like that it has a twist to it that makes it different from other vampire books. Definitely a must read.

Over the past year in my reviewer capacity with The Paranormal Romance Guild, I have read many vampire romances. Along with my hefty TBR pile, vampire stories run rampant in the market place. Jaz Primo’s newest novel, Sunrise at Sunset came across my desk as my last review book of 2010, and I must tell you it is no ordinary vampire story.

Our author has written a fourteen page prologue which introduces us to our story. What was that old line “you hooked me at hello?” Our prologue tells us of a female vampire, Amber, who has become dissatisfied with living and plans to journey into the sun and end her life. She pulls the car she is driving, over to a field, and lays back on the earth awaiting death. The sun is slowly rising , the pain becomes unbearable, and at that moment, she changes her mind and dashes for the first building she sees. It is an old garage with a tarp over a car that she hides under. A little boy about 8 or so enters named Caleb.
And our story begins.....

This is a love story of a female alpha vampire who has obsessed over Caleb since the moment he saved her. She has awaited him unknowingly for 20 years until he has become a Professor of American History, at a college in Atlanta. She is now Katrina Rawlings.

Mr. Primo has written a truly well thought out plot line, added a few more characters to the mix, Anton, the father figure, adorable Paige as the babysitter, and finally The Big Sister. This story is what happens when the female is the vamp and the love interest/lover/mate is human. In all other stories, our Alpha Male Vamps take over and out female humans comply... this story has a twist, as Caleb although mortal, does not want to appear subservient.

The story moves quite well, we meet a bad guy we have to overcome, and the group has many moments of great lines and humor. Upon finding a head in Caleb’s fridge, Paige’s quip to Katrina, “Friends may help move furniture, but best friends help move body parts”, was a keeper.

My only complaint to Mr. Primo, all through the 421 pages, was: Katrina please open up to Caleb more... Yanno those Alpha Types? He is giving his unconditional love to her on a wing and a prayer, not knowing many things. It is strange to see a man do this... as we usually only see woman do this. But by no means can we count him as weak, as he is proud, strong and a keeper, and so is this book. Jaz, I look foward to A Bloody London Sunset, due out soon!

I’ve learned a lot from this book. I will confess half of the time (Okay, more like 99%) I wanted to put Katrina in a head lock, I didn’t like how she went about things but I had an insane understanding on how her mind works. This would be the first time I read a vampire novel from a males prospective. So reading a domineering female, setting rules and laying down the law got me screaming “CALEB! YOU BETTER NOT DO WHAT… CALEB NOO!!!!” I loved it how he put his foot down and overcame his fears let alone the sacrifice he made for her towards the end, he proved his worth in so many ways that I want my own Calebsugarbear.
Alton is my most favorite character, only because he opened my eyes to the truth of the matter and made me realize why I had this dislike for Katrina. She and I are one in the same. Alton explained to Caleb how Katrina’s passed relationships didn’t prosper because her past mates were alpha males. 2 alphas in a relationship would ram heads just because they wanted to be the dominant one. This is why Caleb worked so well for her. I AM AN ALPHA FEMALE! Katrina and I would probably kill each other if we were introduced. (Pretty great catfight ;o)
The story line was great and I feel like another blood sister to Caleb like Paige is. She was an awesome character as well; I would so go out with her clubbing. I took my time reading it and now that it’s done I feel lost a little bit, it was my routine every night to read a chapter or two. Now I must wait till the next one to come out. I so want to know how and what’s going to trigger Caleb’s memory of Katrina’s snappin necks and cashin checks with his father. (Stepbrothers fan) I would highly recommend this book to every vampire lover!

4 and a half stars...

For me this story is the first one I've read where the female is the vampire and the male is the human, it simply was a breath of fresh air. I became entranced with the prologue, it hooks you and reels you in.
I found myself turning each page with anticipation to find out what was going to happen next. So much danger to keep you on the edge of your seat, heart throbing love, passion that'll have you all gooey inside, we also can't forget some kick ass action.

Each character has a unique quality. We have Katrina, she's the alpha vamp, always gets what she wants, but has a hidden softer side which we get to see when shes with Caleb. But I also found her to be just a little too motherly, she becomes very protective but she means well.
Caleb's the sweet vulnerable type, would give his whole heart and soul, he's also strong and would fight (even vamps) for what he believes in. He's just too damn lovable lol.
Paige.. now she was a hoot to read, she had me in fits of giggles, I even got weird looks from my husband cause I was either reading with a huge grin or giggling over something that was said or done lol. Paige is the fun type that loves to push buttons and see how far she can get before something blows.
All the characters mixed together make the story such a compelling read. It'll have you coming back for more.

If your the vampire reading type or are looking for something new and exciting to read than give this one a try. Katrina won't bite....too hard!! *winks*

"SUNSET AT SUNRISE" BY JAZ PRIMO

From the moment Katrina meets Caleb she felt the need to protect him. At the time he was little more than a child. Over the years she has kept tabs on him making sure his life is comfortable. She has discreetly maneuvered every aspect in order to keep him safe. After losing touch for quite a few years she can't help but seek him out again with the need to see him at least one more time and be sure that the boy that once saved her life, has become the man she always hoped and knew he'd be.

She never expected to fall in love, she never knew she'd feel so drawn to him.

A vow to protect him forever is made, a vow to be forever his is consummated, but can a vampire keep those vows? Can she truly protect Caleb from one of the greatest threats of all? One of her own kind has come to make trouble and what Katrina thought would be a beautiful beginning with the man she loves soon turns deadly.

Jaz Primo writes with great detail and pulls you into this timeless love story. Alternating between romance and adventure with perfect fluidity, he weaves a tale that is unforgettable. I enjoyed this story and can't wait to read the sequel!

I've been reading supernatural romance for years now, and they all share a common theme - the tough guy or alpha male sweeping the girl off her feet. Sunrise at Sunset finally sets a woman in the powerful role of 'alpha'.
Sunrise also felt very real and believable to me. Where some novels seem to forget real world rules, Jaz Primo makes you believe you could be living next door to a Caleb or even a Katrina and never know it!
Finally, I really enjoyed the mix of adventure and romance in the book. The romance isn't explicit, and the adventure will keep you on your toes. My favorite characters come into the story about half way through the novel and create enough intrigue that I'm anxiously awaiting the next novel! Caution: you may get hooked on this series. Why not try sinking your fangs into this great read?

I don't know how to start. I liked this book a whole lot! It is well written and flowed so nice. The characters are wonderful, especially Kat and Caleb. Kat is a female vampire that is so in love with Caleb and he is so in love with her, but he does fear her at times. When an old enemy of Kat's appears with vengeance on her mind, Caleb is in danger and Kat is more than able to handle the problem. I can't wait for the next book!!!

I really enjoyed this book. It was different in that the lead vampire is a dominant female and the lead male is a submissive male. The lead vampire attempts suicide and is saved my a human child. Years later when the child is an adult they meet up again. Sparks are flying. Wow. That one I had not seen before. This book has it all.. suspense, drama, action and romance. Pick it up. Good job on being different Jaz Primo. I am looking forward to reading book 2, A Bloody London Sunset.

I'm still in the process of reading this, it has been different then the others I have read. I didn't feel that the two main characters had a good connection, there was a lot of "mind" speaking. And Caleb was somewhat of a sissy for a man, even though he was human. I guess I'm accustomed to the make being the vampire and the woman being the human.

I would just like to start by saying, I feel so lucky to be picked by these great authors to write reviews on their books. My reviews are based on my opinion and my opinion only. Do not let my opinion keep you from reading any book. The best way to know if you like a book is to read it for yourself. With that said let's get on with the review.

About the book: We vampires are focused and tend to shape our own realities. My name is Katrina Rawlings, and I am a vampire. I declare that with neither pride nor ego. I am simply nature's most dangerous predator. On occasion, it's a very valuable quality. It helped me protect Caleb Taylor one day when he was very young. But that single, traumatic day is behind him now; wiped from his memory, or so I hope. Caleb has finally matured into a rather striking young man, and believe me, I like what I see. I'll readily admit that there are issues for us to confront and overcome, though a sense of mutual commitment isn't one of them. I'm feeling hopeful for our future together, in fact. But an adversary from my past has returned to haunt me, and she's trying to get back at me through Caleb. That was her first...and last...mistake. I'll protect my Caleb at all costs, and I'll make her regret the day she was born. So, I suppose that I'm not just a vampire. I'm about to become someone's worst nightmare!

If you are a big Twilight fan, you will love this book! This book is not a rip-off of Twilight by no means, but if you have read it as many times as I have you will see the similarities.

The two main characters Katrina and Caleb are very well described. You get drawled right into their lives. One of the interesting things about this book is the power switch of the characters. Unlike Twilight where Edward is the strong protective one and Bella is the weak human in need of protection. In Sunrise at Sunset the woman, Katrina is the strong Alpha in the relationship. At first this was hard for me to get use to but after a while it didn't bother me that much. It was just hard to imagine a woman carrying a full size man around lol.
And just like Twilight the story line gets off to a slow start, with the characters getting to know one another. Then Caleb finds out, this beautiful woman he is starting to fall for is a vampire. It takes Caleb a little while to get use to this idea. Just like it would any of us if we realize, we were dating a vampire.
It is over half way through the book before it starts to pick up speed. But when it finally does pick up the pace it is a wild ride! So like every story there has to be a conflict. This is the point in the storyline when other vampires are brought into the mix. Two of Katrina's closes vampire friends Alton and spunky Paige are introduced to the story. I am more drawn to Paige than Katrina in part of the story. I just love her spunky party girl spirit! The story draws to an end with a surprising twist I didn't see coming.
All in all this is a good read. I will be reading the rest of the series to see what Jaz has in store for our characters Katrina and Caleb. So keep your eyes peeled for the review of the next book in the series A Bloody London Sunset. Thanks for taking the time to read my review :)

I’ve always been a major people analyzer. This habit of mine is undoubtedly used as I read novels. Without a doubt Jaz Primo offers a story that allows me to relish in a fantastic sea of personalities. The story begins with a gripping prologue that introduces the main characters Caleb and Katrina. Katrina first meets Caleb as small child. Both characters are facing indescribable dark points in their lives. As fate would have it their encounter changes the course of their paths forever. When the story begins we learn how Katrina has gone out of her way and used every resource to help Caleb and his mother sustain a happy life without ever revealing herself. Katrina’s efforts were not in vain Caleb grew to be a well educated, peaceful man – a man you would want to spend the rest of your life with.

Jaz Primo takes the time to allow the reader to step inside the mind of the powerful, seductive, red- haired vampire as well as the a calm sprit of Caleb. Their relationship begins when Katrina can no longer hold back her curiosity of knowing the man Caleb has become. As you read you understand that Caleb admires strong women. The analyzer I am was constantly wondering if was a guarded memory of the first time he met Katrina that caused his attraction, or the idea that his mother was strong and protective. Either way it was clear that Katrina was a perfect match for him.

Katrina left me mesmerized at times as I tried to understand if her attraction was beyond the realm of a protective figure, but as other vampires entered this story a different side of Katrina is shown. The reader can see the fearless warrior she is through the wise eyes of Alton, a vampire that at one time was a mentor to her. The woman she has always been is revealed through Paige’s eyes, a young vampire that was reared by Katrina. Katrina’s past is guarded by her careful use of words, but inevitable I understood Caleb was her perfect opposite, that her past her mates had been dominate and powerful but each relationship left her in pain. She is strong willed woman/vampire that has to have a man that allows her to fill that role and not overpower her – she needs a man that will let her take control.

I enjoyed living in Atlanta as I read through the pages of Sunrise at Sunset. There is no doubt that an immense amount of research was put into the creation of the story. The love of the vampire world the author has comes across beautifully. The reality that vampires live in is clearly explained, and at times I felt grateful to be human – others I wished I had the strength and senses that Katrina fell upon to protect the life of Caleb. Furthermore this is one the most original vampire novels I have ever read. Big thumbs up to Jaz Primo.

If you’re looking for a different kind of vampire book, look no further than Jaz Primo’s Sunrise At Sunset. Don’t go into this novel expecting to find a toe-curling, good looking, bad boy vampire heartthrob. You won’t find that here. Instead you’ll find Katrina Rawlings, a centuries old alpha vampire who’s tired of living and ready to face the sunrise for a final time. Katrina isn’t sure what she has to live for anymore. Money isn’t hard to come by, but as others have said before, money doesn’t buy happiness. A life led as a vampire is often a life led alone, with little direct involvement in the everyday lives of humans.

But Katrina does find something to live for before submitting herself completely to a final death. Or should I say someone - a small human boy by the name of Caleb Taylor. Katrina sets her sights on helping young Caleb through the years, though from the sidelines of course. Thus begins a relationship that is quite different from others in the vampire/paranormal genre. It isn’t often that one gets to read about a strong leading female character. So many other books focus instead on the male character as the supernatural, while the female is often seen as weak and, dare I say it, wimpy. Katrina and Caleb are definite role reversals from the norm. While I wouldn’t go so far as to say that Caleb is weak and wimpy, he is certainly not the strongest in this relationship. Throughout the novel he finds himself in several situations that require him to be rescued by Katrina. Caleb is shy, easily frightened, and occasionally flighty. But on the other hand he is also very loyal to his friends and often acts very selfless, generous, and giving in regards to others.

When a female vampire from Katrina’s past, Chimalma, resurfaces in order to exact revenge over an event that happened many hundreds of years ago, Katrina brings in two fellow vampires, Alton and Paige, to help protect Caleb and defeat Chimalma. Paige is another strong female vampire. I absolutely adore her character! She’s smart, witty, and makes a great “babysitter” for Caleb. She’s tough when she needs to be, but also quick to bring out the humor. I can’t wait to learn more about Paige in future books.

Overall I was highly impressed by this first book by Jaz Primo. It was nice to read a book in the paranormal genre that did not follow the same exact path as so many others. The role reversal of Katrina and Caleb was a fresh look at a storyline that has been played out many times before, and I think it will be interesting to see how these characters grow and develop as the series progresses.

Sunrise at Sunset
by
Jaz Primo
It was nice to come across yet another author who writes in my favorite genre, the paranormal, and uses my favorite character, the vampire. I was very intrigued with this book and it was easy to get into. I did find it a bit frustrating on two counts though. One, although as the reader the book does hint to a sexual relationship between Caleb and Katrina, but never goes into detail about the passion they share. The only clue they ever made love was that they held each other and cuddled afterward. I do not understand why the author did not enhance or go into depth about their sexual relationship, but it was a little disappointing especially when in almost every vampire book I have read, always shows the passion the vampire emits with his or her partner. So, I did find this disappointing. The other thing I found to be a little irritating was the fact throughout the entire book, I kept looking at Caleb like a small child. Katrina treated him throughout the whole book as 'the boss', 'the protector', 'the dictator' and more like a mother to him than a life mate. I know in the beginning when she first met Caleb he was a small boy who helped save her life, but even after she met him again as an adult, she continued to treat him as that small boy. That would have been a little more tolerable IF their love making would have gone into detail. And Caleb always allowed Katrina to treat him as such, except in certain areas of the book where he 'tried' to stand up for himself. To be honest, I wanted him to be turned so he could be a man, stand on his own feet and maybe Katrina would treat him like a man instead of a helpless child.
Now, with that all said. I loved the book. It had a great story behind it, and it was written well. The author shows a great deal of imagination and creativity and it kept my attention. I was pleased to see when I finished reading the book there is another one coming after it called A Bloody London Sunset. So, I hope the author will allow me to read and review it. Although Sunrise at Sunset disappointed me in two areas, I can't wait to find out where Jaz is going to take Caleb and Katrina next. Hopefully the author will open up a bit and allow the intimate part of their relationship to come forth and have Caleb grow a 'set'. *grin*

Ok first off all I have to say is wow. I was honestly pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this book. Now I have to admit in all honesty that when I first picked up this book I had my reservations. I wasn't used to Jaz's writing style and I quickly cast aside the book because at the time I couldn't get into it and now I feel horrible for thinking I couldn't enjoy this book because it was amazing. I started this book then I put it down about 60 pages into it because I didn't connect with Katrina. I don't usually start a book and not finish it because I truly feel that you can always find something that you like about a book. So determined to keep my record of only ever not finishing 1 book in my entire life I picked the book back up to give it a second chance and Omg I am so glad I did.

I found myself completely immersed in Katrina and Caleb's story. Katrina is a vampire who has lived for centuries mostly in seclusion for her own benefit. She decided that she no longer wants to live her lonely existence. She sets off to end her life by sunrise, only to realize at the last minute just how much she wants to live. She finds refuge in the garage of a young Caleb Taylor. He saves her life being non the wiser as to who she really is. 15 years later Katrina seeks Caleb out. They come to care for each other . Caleb's life is endangered when an Enemy from Katrina's past comes back to seek revenge.

This book was absolutely amazing and I feel so bad for ever doubting it. It had every element that I love in a book. Love, Friendship, Sorrow, Danger, Action and humor were all incorporated into Jaz's writing.

I came to feel very connected to Katrina. She is very secretive and protective over Caleb. She would risk anything to save him. She is an amazing Alpha character.

Caleb is a soft soul who you can't help but love. His character isn't the typical Macho masculine man but I loved that!
There was definitely a role reversal in this book. Katrina being the heroine and Caleb taking on the Damsel role even though he didn't want to. I loved how it wasn't your traditional guy saves girl but girl saves guy!

I loved this book and I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves the paranormal genre.

Katrina is a vampire, she kills and eats humans. When she was trying to kill herself at sunrise she changed her mind and ran into a garage where she met Caleb a little boy who wasnt afraid of her. Caleb helped Katrina by calling someone to drop off a package, Caleb called her an angel. After Caleb helped Katrina she erased his mind so that he would forget what she was and go on with his life.
Throughout the years Katrina kept an eye on Caleb and his mom to make sure that they were doing ok One day she found out that Caleb was a professor at a college she decided to take his class. When Caleb first saw her he new that there was something about her but couldnt make out what it is. When Caleb was almost rob in the school parking lot Katrina came to his aid and that's when they started talking and decided to go out for coffee. Later when Caleb broke up with his girlfriend he decided to keep going out with Katrina. So Katrina told him what she is, a vampire at first Caleb thought she was joking but then figured out that she wasnt. But he knew that he still loved her, so he decided it didnt matter what she was. When Caleb got a call about a job interview it went very well then Katrina figure out that a old enemy from the past was the person doing the interview. In fact there was no job she just wanted to kill Caleb to seek revenge on what Katrina.
Katrina will do anything to keep Caleb. Will it cost her her life?

First I want to thank Jaz Primo for giving me this book. It was amazing! In the first day of reading it I was half way done with it. I didnt want to put it down, so much action and excitement. I absolutly loved this book, as soon as I put it down I went to look up the second one to see if it was out! I was on the edge of my seat during the ending, such a great fighting seen. And the romance between Caleb and Katrina was breath taking, the scarfices it makes them take are unreal. They will do anything to stay together. This book is going on my favorite top 5 books I have read! I might just have to frame it! This book is a great read for anyone who loves vampires, fighting with a little romance.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars! This book, this series would make one hell of a movie!

We begin with Katrina being weary of life. After a couple hundred years, I could honestly say I understand. She was ready for her final sunset. The sun was one of the things she missed most about being a human. When she was human, the morning sunrise always brought the promise of a better day. Now it was just the signal for her to come inside. But something happens to Katrina as she waits out in the sunlight for the first time in decades. And with that split-second decision, she meets someone who changes her life forever.

Caleb was your average all American kind of guy. Tall, athletic, and good-hearted with a laid-back easy manner. His goal after finishing college was to teach history at a university. He wasn't very good with relationships, but he figured that with the right girl everything would just fall into place. He, however, didn't plan on meeting that girl in his night class. He also, however, didn't plan one having his life turned completely upside down in the matter of one semester!

I'm going to start out by saying that I LOVED Katrina!! She was an alpha through and through and she was by far my absolute favorite character. She was everything you would hope to see in an alpha vamp heroine. She was a very old vampire and the best warrior out of the vampires introduced. She was the ultimate predator, that quickly developed a tender spot for Caleb which turns into so much more.l But can he handle living in her world? Will she disgust him when she reveals her true nature? Caleb is tender hearted and innocent. Will she destroy this in him?

Even though I can understand why Katrina would want someone like Caleb, and even appreciate his other qualities, he is not your usual hero. That being said..lol..I really enjoyed the book!! It was take on a side of a vampire you might not consider. Innocence has its appeal, even to female vampires. What makes this series unique is the fact that it is a alpha role reversal. I can't wait for the next book. I have a lot of unanswered questions!!

Sunrise at Sunset is a very interesting twist on the vampire stories I’ve read lately. Instead of the main character being a smoldering male vampire who goes after the human female, the roles are reversed this time. I think this is the book’s strength and weakness. It was a refreshing change, and I honestly didn’t know how the story would play out. I also like the fact that this story kept the traditional rule of “sunlight kills”. A lot of vampire stories are trying to get away from this rule lately, and I liked that this rule was kept.
The story I feel is more romance than vampire action, and that was fine with me. It tells a nice story of girl meets boy, girl courts boy, and let the action begin. The characters were definitely interesting, especially the vampires. The main weak link was the male human lead. It truly is an unbalanced relationship, and I can only guess that was the intention, but it was hard to read through those parts where it was focused on. A vampire even tells the man, named Caleb, in the story, that he is a mate, not a partner, because Katrina (main character) is better than he is in every way. It was really just hammered home about how small and insignificant Caleb is, and that didn’t make for interesting reading.
Despite that major complaint, it was a very good story that I enjoyed. When the focus was on Katrina and Caleb, and not how weak he is, it was real solid.

Strengths:

The vampires in the story are all very interesting.
Refreshing change of pace with characters and their roles.
The romance plot, when not ridiculing Caleb, is well done.

Weaknesses:

The relationship between Caleb and Katrina is very one-sided. He is weak, both in spirit and will, and this point is repeated throughout. I kept waiting for the “turning point”, where Caleb would come into his own, but this doesn’t really happen in my opinion.

I wasn't sure at all how I felt about this book until nearly halfway through. For one, it was loooooonnnng and the beginning was boring. I only kept reading because it wasn't so bad that I felt the need to put it down. I felt the romance between Caleb and Katrina a little off putting. She met him when he was 8 years old, killed his abusive father in front of him then hypnotized him to not remember it, then 18 years later enrolls in a college course he's teaching and falls for him after looking after his needs from afar... and has yet to tell him any of these things by the end of the book. It was kind of Mrs. Robinson to me.
Other than that, I enjoyed the characters. The author did a good job in conveying the otherness of Katrina in the way she thought about and saw things. Caleb seemed like a total submissive pansy boy throughout the book until the end (of which I won't spoil). I enjoyed Paige and her playfulness and protectiveness of Caleb and her different approach to being a vampire. Alton was dry and british... but he was british, so I guess that's okay.
I will say this books could have used way more action. There was a lot of Caleb and Kat going on dates, Caleb being bored and stuck in the house, Paige and Caleb being bored and stuck in the house. There was a total of maybe 5 pages of action or something that was really interesting, then it would go back to the ho hum stuff... and considering how long it took me to read this book (three days of reading for at least 4 to 5 hours and I'm a quick reader) that's not a lot of action. I'm hoping the next books will be more faster paced. I will eventually finish the series, but it's not number one on my list by any means.

I usually try to rush through most prologues in books because they don't hold my attention. But once I started reading this prologue I was hooked. It's not that often that the first thing you read is a vampire trying to commit suicide and then running into a little angel.

This book is about a strong minded female vampire, Katrina, who knows she should leave the human male, Caleb, that saved her alone but can't. And in turn puts Caleb's life in danger. She does everything that she can to protect him and sometimes goes a little too far. To add to the protection she has some other vampire friends to come help. And that's when my favorite character, Paige Turner, comes in. The hysterical babysitter/sister.

The story flows very well. There is on the edge of your seat danger, I wish I had that romance, I need a tissue sad, and laugh my butt off funny moments. I only have two complaints about this book. In some parts Katrina seemed more like a mother to Caleb than a lover/girlfriend. The only way I could justify the motherly actions while reading was that she was just trying to protect Caleb and at times it was to much like a mother would do.

The second complaint was that Katrina didn't open up to Caleb the way I wish she would have. Caleb opened up to her and put his life and heart into her hands but to me she couldn't do the same. I know she is afraid to tell him about their past that they share (that he doesn't remember) but other things about herself I wish she would have opened up more.

All in all this is a very good read. I really enjoyed it and I can't wait the for the sequel to see what happens. I recommend this book to everyone!

Where to start ?
I really wanted to like this book the blurb had so much promise for it but it just didnt deliver for me, the latter part of the book redeemed it a little but i dont think i would read the sequel when i was reading it, i just wanted it to be over and it went on and on.
I did not like the main character Katrina at all, she was cold, demanding and a bully. The male lead was Caleb and he was so wimpish and submissive, just a victim. I get that with the role reversal being Katrina was the vampire and Caleb the human that she would be more dominant but Caleb may aswell have been a mouse. Then theres their relationship, i didnt feel that at all. It was creepy how she was fascinated with him from being 8 and shes like 500+, she was stalkerlike and then when they did get together she was more took on a more maternal/protective mode than a lover/partner. It felt forced and cold with no emotions and Caleb seemed scared a lot, i didnt feel one bit of emotion for them, not one.
Halfway through the book it did pick up with the introduction of her friends Alton and Paige, these i did like. Alton was a sage like older vamp and Paige was young (in vampire terms) and was more fun loving and easy going. I really liked her banter with Caleb and thought they should have been paired together for better results. As for the plot, well it was there. An old enemy of Katina wanted to avenge her mates death by killing Katrina and her mate but that was over way to quickly and not enough interaction between warring parties so you really didnt feel the rivalary. I was majorly disappointed :(

Sunrise at sunset is yes another vampire tale( saying this in a good way as Vamps are my favourite to read ) but one in which Jaz has woven his own tale. Katrina meets Caleb after deciding she no longer wishes to die, her little angel saves her and they form a bond. Katrina goes through Calebs life keeping an eye on him and protecting him, she never anticipated years later to fall in love with him or having an attraction so magnetic.

There love blooms and Katrina thinks that life is all rosey until dark forces threaten her love. One of her own is after blood.

Sunrise at sunset is filled with romance, not over the top, adventure, a kickarse ALpha female lead and other characters who made an intriguing storyline.

I personally enjoyed Paige best of all, her funny, witty and humourous characteristics made me giggle here and there. Katrina was the Alpha - vampire in this story, taking lead and protecting Caleb and loving him. Caleb came across as a mere human at times, but dont get me wrong he got in when he could to try and help out. His love for Katrina was evident .

The story is slow to start, gradually builidng Caleb and Katrina's relationship,, and I found the storyline sped up half way into the story taking us into twists and turns I didnt see coming.

Overall, I enjoyed this story, something new and refreshing, where the female is the vampire - lead - protector and the human being the male. I will be reading the next books to find out what happens after the twists n turns in this one ..

PST !! I must say I really love all the covers for his books !! Very eye catching !!

3 1/2 stars ;)

Sunrise at Sunset is a refreshing change on the typical vampire story. Here the female leader -Katrina- is the tough vampire, and the male character -Caleb- is the one who needs protection, even though he didn’t want it and tried to defend himself. I liked the change of roles, but I found him too soft for a man and Katrina was way too overprotective of him. Maybe somewhere in the middle for both characters would have been a little better.

I found the story slow paced at times and I would’ve liked for Katrina to be more flexible and share more about her story with Caleb, since it is obvious that she is a very old and powerful vampire. She could have been more gracious, especially since Caleb was respectful and caring toward her.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it kept me guessing toward the end. I was laughing at some dialogue and thoughts of the characters, especially Paige Turner (what a great name!) – she is blunt and funny and enjoys life. She doesn’t care much for the rest of the world, but built a friendship with Caleb even though he is human and vampires only see humans as prey.

Sunrise at Sunset has everything I like in a book: it’s a little bit sexy and there’s humor, a love interest and some action. The next book in this series A Bloody London Sunset sounds very promising and I hope we get to see more of Paige and Alton, another long time friend of Katrina’s.

Hi everyone :)
As you might know I'm participating in the Romancing Your Dark Side Tour, for me it's really exciting as it's my first and I hope to do allot more^^ So my first book is this one. I LOVED it.
I love it when the alpha is the female I mean come one we can't always be the one getting rescued, us girls can kick ass to right?? Of course :)
Jaz is really good at writing the story from a female alpha POV. Katrina is strong and protective of Caleb but also loving and feminine, and as most alphas (female or male) she is very possessive and she has the most amazing red hair. But there's more to Katrina than meets the eye.
Caleb in this occasion is the damsel in distress, well not exactly... as he's not a damsel. But he is an easily liked character right from the beginning. Shy, good looking, a community college history teacher and willing to do anything to save his loves life.
Alton is Katrina's mentor and a good friend. And Chimalma (yes I know cool name ^^) is the baddy.
But my favorite character is Katrinas best friend Paige, she's modern, sassy, quirky, funny and a great friend, she's also fiercely protective of Caleb.
You'll like this book if you like vampire books but your fed up with the alpha male stories in which the female character is weak and always depending on the male. Because not only is Katrina a female but Caleb is far from helpless.
So I give it 5 stars. :)

After wanting this book for ages, i have finally read it. What can i say? Lets start at the beginning. Caleb saves Kat when he was a child, when she thought she'd had enough of living & was going to meet the sun. To repay his kindness, she help his mum & Caleb made a better life for them. Do i find it creepy? No,yes she killed his father, but did he deserve to live? No,he was a brute who would of destroyed both Caleb & his mother. They both went on to achieve a good standard of living. Many years later, a chance meeting!! Kat is being taught history by Caleb, who is now a college lecturer.

Why does life never run smoothly for vampires? When she told Caleb what she was, he didn't react as expected....is there a right way to react when you're told the person you love is a vampire? i don't think so. Anyway, he mulls it over, thinking things through & he decides he can't just forget her, he is falling for her. Not only has Kat got that to deal with, some of her vampire friends are vanishing & it seems not by their own hand. it seems someone is killing them.

Throw in one hell of an anger vampire, dead set on her so called revenge, it makes one hell of a book to read. Twists & turns...although i did guess one thing that happened.

I am looking forward to the next book which i have already got waiting for me on my kindle.

What a refreshing read. A book where the tables are turned on the human girl/vampire boy. Here we are a very strong alpha female vampire, Katrina. She is a mix of both Traditional vampire (kills, drink human blood, cant go out in sunlight) and the new vampire that is books just now. Katrina is very an old vampire and in my head with Jaz's skillful writing I could hear that she was old the way she spoke. Caleb is the human, who is a real treat to read. Not often do I read a novel where the male is the human. Caleb has an innocence about that it real intriguing.

Although neither them was my favourite character. I love Paige, she is just fun to read. A perky vampire who would be a great best friend but never get on her bad side. She also had the best line in the whole book. "Friends may help move furniture. But best friends help dispose of body parts"

Sunrise at Sunset is a fantastic read that really kept me on my toes wondering what was going to happened next. There was never a dull moment while reading it.

Jaz Primo has produced a fantastic story in the first of The Sunset Series and I am looking forward to find out what is going to happen next with the characters I have grown to love.

A huge two thumbs up Jaz.

I enjoyed this book! Jaz Primo has a clever way of mixing up "the norm" & making you want to see what's to come. Throughout the book I had mixed emotions about the alpha vampire Katrina. The author did a great job giving her very common feminine traits, & while it definitely made sense for her role it had me wanting to scream to her at times "If you'd just voice your thoughts rather than holding them in people might have a chance to show you their potential! Give 'em a chance!" LOLz I also enjoyed getting to know Caleb's character. Who wouldn't fall for his endearing qualities?!? :)
I loved all of the unexpected twists that came, & I truly felt I understood the characters & their feelings, decision making, & plotting. I absolutely loved the vampire buddies coming in to the story as well! Alton & Paige quickly became characters I looked forward to seeing more of the following chapters. And finally the ending...every time I feared it was coming to an end & prepared myself to say goodbye to this great book & it's characters we were hit with another unexpected twist & got a few more chapters out of it. :) Furthermore each time I thought I had the ending figured out I was pleasantly surprised it went a completely different direction! Bravo!!
