Vikings Underground #2

Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down

Rate this book
In this sexy erotica anthology, three hot authors reel you in with sizzling novellas about alpha heroes who will do anything to get the women they want -- even kidnap them!

Bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon presents "'Captivated' by You," the second sexy story in her series featuring the Bureau of American Defense. Rhea Stevenson is a "BAD" agent who has just been handed her most challenging assignment. She must go undercover as a dominatrix to bring in a deadly terrorist. The only upside is that her fellow agent, "Ace" Krux, whom she has long desired, is her training partner. Almost immediately the roles of master and slave are wonderfully blurred and Rhea and Ace unleash a wealth of hidden desire.

From bestselling romance author Melanie George comes "Promise Me Forever," the story of Savannah Harper, who has finally put her breakup with pro-football player Donovan Jerricho behind her. But when Tristan comes home to Mississippi on the eve of Savannah's wedding, he still wants her. And when he carries her off and holds her hostage, Savannah's surprised to find that the desire's deliciously mutual....

From Jaid Black comes "Hunter's Right," the fantastical story of Corporal Ronda Tipton of the U.S. Army, whose chopper goes down in the Arctic Circle. The only survivor of the crash, Ronda happens upon a hidden civilization of Vikings -- where she must face the bridal auction block. Only Nikolas Ericsson, the man who found Ronda, can save her by claiming her as his own according to sacred rights. But will she and this primitive brute give in to the sparks made when their worlds collide?

Sensual and playful, these three novellas will carry you away!

Didn't enjoy the first short stories but really enjoyed the last one by Jaid Black. I've enjoyed her modern viking captive romances for a while but they are hard to find and usually bundled up in a collection with other writers. The short story follows pretty much the same formella as always but somehow I never get bored by them.

Sherrilyn Kenyon Captivated by You, Melaine George Promise me Forever, Jaid Black Hunter's Right.

First story I had read before and remember quite well. I remember I enjoyed the characters relationship and the love scenes were pure fantasy. The male lead was in total lust with the female lead and had his chance to be with her "on assignment". So it was quite entertaining getting to watch them act out a fantasy togther. Invovles BD/SM. The second story was tame by erotica standards (that I've read recently) but it was still an enjoyable read for the first time I've read this author. I liked how she fleshed out the characters and I liked the story. I love scene was intense because of what it lead up to. The last story was my favorite. I'd never read Jaid Black but I heard she was good. I LOVED the whole Viking theme. I guess I am an Alpha male loving gal (right Laura? correct me if I am wrong. Hehe) I like when the men are strong and protective but have some flaw that makes them vunerable. Makes them want to be needed, but they don't ask. Then enters the one. This story invovled a lady finding an underground colony of Vikings and she ended having to stay and get married. The title Hunter's Right means that the "hunter" or warrior going to get women to be married off to other unwed Viking, if he himself is unwed he can choose the woman for himself w/o having to bid on her. That's how this story comes together. Also the love scenes, people, are amazing! I really enjoyed them b/c the characters started out with a geniune dislike and then it really turned into love and then heated passion. That's what I enjoy about a great romantica novel. If the author (or authors) can develop the story and characters to where you really care about them the love scenes really leave you breathless.

5 stars for one of the three stories about primitive underground Vikings who capture modern women as brides.

This book contains three short stories, described below. I’m not sure if the book is worth buying just for one of the stories. But I’m glad I have it, and I’ll be saving it. Hunter’s Right a re-read for me. I first read it in Nov 2007 and again in Aug 2011.

5 stars for HUNTER'S RIGHT by Jaid Black.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
I really enjoyed it. It’s different and fun. The sex scenes are not the steamiest but they are arousing in a fairy tale way - think modern woman in a barbarian culture. She is property - there for the purpose of giving her warrior a good ride at the end of his day. The first sex scene was touching. He had some insecurity – and he was such a gentleman toward her, which was odd since he was a barbarian. There is more story than sex. There is some nice relationship building.

STORY BRIEF:
Ronda is in the army and traveling to an arctic station. The plane crashes and she is the only survivor. She discovers a door in the side of a mountain. She enters and goes down the inside stairs to discover a barbarian/medieval culture with Viking influences. She is seen and tries to run away but Nikolas catches her. She is their prisoner. They put her on stage naked to auction her off as a bride to the highest bidder. Nikolas had not been in the market for a bride, but he changes his mind when he sees her fight the men trying to touch her while she is on the auction block.

UNDERGROUND VIKING SERIES:
Each one can be read as a stand alone.
3 stars. Besieged (in the anthology The Hunted)
5 stars. Hunter's Oath (in the anthology Playing Easy To Get)
5 stars. Hunter's Right (in the anthology Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down)
4 stars. Deep, Dark & Dangerous

2 stars for CAPTIVATED BY YOU by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
Ok, but not recommended. The first half of the story had Ace constantly flirting with Rhea while Rhea constantly insulted him. Ace was ok since he was being honest, but Rhea's insulting manner and dishonestly with herself bothered me. The sex scenes were ok.

Data:
Story length: 110 pages. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: three. Setting: current day Nashville, Tenn and Germany. Copyright: 2005. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.

2 stars for PROMISE ME FOREVER by Melanie George.
I do not recommend this story. Too sad with conflict due to poor communication. The poor communication is one of my pet peeves: Donovan broke up with Savannah 10 years earlier due to not asking her a couple of questions and assuming incorrect information. He thought she had an affair with a friend when in fact he saw an innocent hug. She also was not communicating properly by not telling him she was pregnant with his child. To break up with all that confusion in the air was not realistic for me. I also didn't like all the sadness. She was sad for 10 years because Donovan left her and she still loved him. Donovan was sad during those 10 years but probably most unhappy when he had to leave football due to a permanent injury. She planned to marry Jake but she was not truly in love with him. It was a nice friendship. Her fiancé Jake became sad when he realized she didn't love him. Donovan was sad when she told him to leave again.

Data:
Story length: 78 pages. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: two. Setting: current day Mississippi. Copyright: 2005. Genre: contemporary romance.

Very erotic short stories. My favorite was the one by Jaid Black where a woman who is a survivor in a helicopter crash discovers a hidden civilization of Vikings. Three stories by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Melanie George, and Jaid Black.

3 steamy novellas with a slight naughty slant:

Captivated by You by Sherrilyn Kenyon - 3 stars
This is a cop story - the 2 protagonists are agents for BAD (an underground organization trying to take down the bad guys/terrorists). It was fun that the organization was set in Nashville, not far from where I live, and that they used the Bat Building as their HQ. The chemistry was pretty good between Rhea and Ace, although I was kind of annoyed at her sissy attitude. This one has mild bondage (the set up is that she's going undercover as a dominatrix and practices on Ace).

Bat building photo

Promise Me Forever by Melanie George - 2.5 stars
Probably the weakest of the 3 stories. This one was too predictable and too far-fetched. I thought that the fiancee of Savannah was a total wuss and there's no way that his actions make any sense. The story here concerns Donovan who's an ex-NFL player, now retired due to an injury, and Savannah, his high-school/college love who's getting married in 2 days. He 'kidnaps' her to try to explain how he's been a meathead for 10 years and wants her back. The only redeeming quality was the slightly steamy action in the middle. Otherwise, ho hum.

Hunter's Right by Jaid Black - 5 stars
Best of the bunch with a strong male and female lead. Ronda's military copter crashes in the wilds of Alaska and she stumbles upon a secret Viking underground world. Nikolas is a warrior in New Sweden and claims her as his wife, rather than let her be auctioned to a sadist. The chemistry is great between them and I like that Ronda is not the shy, submissive type. Lots of fun with a little bit of action.

Captivated By You (Kenyon) Rhea & Ace had the air sizzle with heath in their words. It took a keen eye to she the obvious chemistry between Joe & Tea, is there something there?

Promise Me Forever (George) 1st read ok nothing to write home for.

Hunter's Right (Black) Ronda & Niko have but yet the classic man to the rescue.

All Tied Up!

Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down is a book of three erotic romance tales. Some parts are steamy; your desire to be tied up and tied down will be uncontrollable! These stories are light reads and it is a good thing because you will find yourself all tied up...it... you... are...lucky....

3 great erotic romance novellas.
Loved each of these short stories.
1st one by Sherrilyn Kenyon I remembered reading before. But I still read it again and enjoyed it all over again. "Captivated by you" A BAD agency short, will have you laughing out loud and rooting for this couple to get together and do the deed. Undercover agent needs to learn how to be a Dominatrix, BD/SM. Her partner has to help her pull it off. The chemistry is super hot.
2nd one by Melanie George, "Promise me forever" was a nice sweet erotic novella. Single mother about to get married when her first true love comes back to town. He kidnaps her in hopes of getting her back. She must make a choice overnight - Does she get married or does she take her first true love back?
3rd one by Jaid Black, "Hunter's Right" was a great one. I recently read a short about this underground world so I already had an idea about what was going on. The Viking in this one seemed insecure and so does the woman. But with each other the sparks are amazing. Couldn't stop reading this story. Love the characters and the development of their relationship. This one was another great erotic romance short.

All three novellas were entertaining reads but not what I would call "erotic". May have met that definition when it was published in 2005 but not in 2023 when I am reading it. All in all, I laughed at some of the exchanges and did shed a tear or two.

I love this book because of "Hunter right". Its the story that's stood out to me the most. I love the barbaric nature of it. Found it hot and steamy and it really got my imagination going.

Liked the first, hated the second, loved the third. But I had a feeling that's how it would play out. Jaid Black, I have just now made it a personal mission to read everything you write. Second author whose name escapes me but I can't be bothered to look up, I thoroughly disliked your characters. One was a man-skank who only thinks about himself, the other was a spineless girl who fell into a puddle of goo after one kiss from the man-skank who decided to waltz back into her life after either 8 or 10 years of trolloping around. So no, I most certainly did not get warm fuzzies from your story at all. Personal issue there, I think the past is the past but the present is damn well present and there is no way he really lurved her twuwy if he was perfectly willing to go gallivanting off to play football and sleep with models to his heart's discontent. And girl whose name also escapes me (Curse my memory sometimes! I'm 18, I'm too young to be going senile!) could you get any more pathetic? It has been 8 to 10 years! 8 to 10 years of seeing your twu wuv with other women! Grow up! There really is life after high school if you get your head out of your butt and smell the much sweeter scent of the ROSES ALL AROUND YOU!!! Admittedly, all the men in your life seem to suck. So leave town. Go somewhere new! Meet new people! (Pretty rich, coming from me, seeing as how I can hardly leave the house by myself, but I prefer to read about women stronger than me so I can laugh about how silly they can be. Makes me feel better about myself.) Also, first story was pretty much what I expected, nice and sweet, good job Kenyon. So, 5 for three, 1 for two, and 3 for one (and one for all! Haha, just cause I'm tired. Hey, what happened to my time logs? Right now it is 2:23 AM) which averages out to three stars, but I will give it 3 and 1/2 because I'm feeling generous remembering the Viking story.

OK, have I ever mentioned I love anthologies (good anthologies that is) and I have no complaints about this one what so-ever. I love that I can read a whole story in one sitting.

The first story (Captivated by You by Sherrilyn Kenyon)is actually out of the BAD series (worth checking out if you like sexy cop-ish alpha males) - I really liked the banter between these two and there are some funny dominatrix scenes while they are undercover. The ending was really funny.

The second story (Promise Me Forever by Melanie George) was a very sweet story ex-pro-football jock with really bad timing returns home to reclaim the love of his life on the eve of her wedding ... when all else fails, just throw the bride over your shoulder and carry her off into the night!

The final story (Hunter's Right by Jaid Black) delves into the fantasy realms where after an army plane crashes, sole surviving army officer Rhonda discovers a secret society of Vikings. On her capture she locks eyes with the hunky Nikolas and of course, after he saves her from a fate worse than death, they're destined for the fur covered bed. I do really like strong female characters who no what they want, and Ms Black delivers a fantastic tale as always.

These were a good read all-round with something for everyone...

First off, for a book of this title it was surprisingly vanilla. Honestly, I was expected a little bit more bondage in it. Not that I, uh, read that normally or anything. Really. I was just led to believe that there'd be more of the tying up and less of the not tying up. You know? So, three short stories. The best of the bunch was probably Jaid Black's Hunter's Right about a secret civilization of Vikings hidden away under the Arctic and the Army Corporal who stumbles upon their society after surviving a helicopter crash. Yes, it seems a bit far-fetched but it's engagingly written and the characters are at least interesting. This is not the case with Melanie George's Promise Me Forever. Boring. Not my cup of tea. I would have skipped it but it was so short it was done before I finished blinking. Sherrilyn Kenyon's Captivated By You was not nearly up to the level of any of her Dark-Hunter stories. Set in her B.A.D. universe, it involves two members of a counter terrorist group who have to learn the ins and outs of the bondage scene in order to take down a Very Bad Man. Despite what you might think it was surprisingly light on the actual bondage. Overall, not a book I'll be revisiting. And I'm still disappointed that there was so little truth in advertising with the title.

I mostly just bought this book because it had a short story in it from Jaid Black's Viking series. Now I know you are probably wondering about this weird Viking series I'm talking about. A long time ago I stumbled across a book just like this one that had 3-4 short stories in it from a couple of different authors. I ended up not at all liking the stories that I thought I would love and loving the two that I didn't think I would. Jaid Black's Viking one was one of them. Any who, she is a hard to get your hands on author but I found this book along with an actual book from the series a couple of days ago and dove right in.

Now I did not read the other two stories in this book because they just didn't seem to my sort of thing. But I finally got to read more of this cool Viking story that has been on my mind for years now and I was so sad. It was not as good as I built it up in my head. I finished the story in an hour tops and had no real hope. The only thing I had wished for was that maybe the actual series was better and I just need to read it and it would be as good as I thought it would be. SO you guys will just have to wait for that review on that book coming up soon.

I read it for the Jaid Black book Hunter's Right because I had read the other book in that series. I will say that Hunter's Oath and Hunter's Right by Jaid Black are both extremely original ideas, at least by what I have read so far-and I have read books counting in the hundreds. I haven't updated them all on here as yet, I'm trying to do it in sessions. The books are about a Viking Settlement that has been located, without the "above" world's knowledge, in cave systems under our very feet for well over 1,000 years. It is set in present day and as I said-very original. I'm not giving away anything.

I was a bit disappointed to find that Sherrilyn Kenyon's book was NOT a paranormal at all but I do realize she does wear different writing hats. I had tried to read the B.A.D. series of books in the past and they just aren't my style.

The other story was by Melanie George and was a straight-on romance with the usual kidnapping (maybe by an ex, not sure) and then of course she falls for him. At least that's what it says on the cover. That's just not my thing.

This book has short stories from 3 authors, Kenyon, George and Black. The Kenyon and Black stories tie into series that they have going, so be warned about that right up front.

Of the 3 stories in the book, the one that I, paradoxically, both liked the most and the least is the one by Black. I liked the characters in it, loved the premise, but found it a bit hard to believe that a trained soldier will give in as easily as Ronda did. Ok, the fact that Nikolas is georgous does help, but still, she's a corporal in the Army and has been trained at least a little bit in "what to do if you are captured by the enemy." And yes, I know that the Viking settlement isn't technically at war with the U.S. but they are still trying to hold her captive. That part of the story drove me crazy. But after forcing myself to push that down and admit that this IS a romance book and what occurs in a romance book usually has little relationship to the "real world" I enjoyed the rest of the story.

The first story is by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It was from the BAD series. About Rhea and Ace they are to go undercover she is as a dominatrix and him to protect her. In this story they just fall in love while finding out how to do their scences.

The second story by Melanie George is about Savannah and Donnovan. They had a horrible fight years before which caused them to break off their relationship. Now Savannah is back in town for her wedding to Jake. Donnovan doesn't realize that years before what broke them up was a lie, but now that he does he wants to make up for the lost years with Savannah. But she will not listen to him. So he kidnaps her. Little does he know that they have a love child from their relationship years before.

The third story by Jaid Black is by far the best. Ronda crashes her helicopter into the artic circle right where there is another world being lived. Nikolas claims Ronda at a bridal auction. Now Ronda must learn to live in a primative world.

The three stories are good.

the Sherrilyn Kenyon one takes place in the BAD world. It was funny when the female agent (can't remember her name) enters the shop with the older lady talking to her about the products. 2.75 stars.

the Melanie George one has an ex-football star finding that he made a horrible mistake and let the love of his life go. Now he wants to get her back before she marries someone else. This one is was pretty good. I thought the brother was bleeping nuts and should be institutionalized, but meh, it's a romance. Who wants too much reality. 3 stars.

The Jaid Black one is just out of this world. Three secret Viking cities underground. The storyline is crazy, but it was so interesting, I had to keep reading. There were a couple of times that the male MCs language changed to a more modern syntax not used. 3.5 stars.

An okay book...not quite what I expected with this on the back cover:
"In this sexy erotica anthology, three hot authors reel you in with sizzling novellas about alpha heroes who will do anything to get the women they want -- even kidnap them!"

But three decent stories..."Captivated by You" was my favorite, and "Hunter's Right" was an interesting tale -- a little bit of sci-fi in it, not overly so tho...and "Promise Me Forever" was just a basic romance story, nothing overtly sexual -- in my opinion.

It did make me realize that the Jaid Black books I have on my wish list can stay. She wrote "Hunter's Right" and it was sexy enough...but what really got it for me was the humor. Good writer she is.

I read this years ago and specifically picked it up for Sherrilyn Kenyon's novella because it is part of the B.A.D. Agency. The story was hella kinky back then with some sexy BDSM. It is supposed to be a bit of femdom with Rhea going as an undercover dominatrix. Her submissive is Ace Krux. . . Back then I didn't know as much about BDSM. It is pretty apparent that neither did Ms. Kenyon. Or at least not from personal experience. Still this is a kinky story that is erotic and enjoyable.

I was a bit disappointed, through my own fault =( i was soo excited to receive the book and then i realized i´d already read the first short story by Sherrilyn Kenyon =/. It´s a great one about two agents reluctantly having to go undercover together as a practicing BDSM team, struggling with feelings for each other. Steamy and hot, worth a re-read.
Melanie George´s story was about a woman about to marry but not able to forget her first and only love who broke her heart and left her eight years earlier and now he returns on the eve of her wedding.
Jaid Black and her Vikings, =) i love them and need to read more about them. Ronda, a helicopter crash survivor stumbles upon the Viking settlement and falls for the biggest Viking.
