I live in the teeny, tiny town of Taylor, NY, (Alliteration Alert!) though my mailing address is Cincinnatus, my telephone exchange is Truxton and I pay taxes and vote in Cuyler. All of these are at least in the same rural county in the southern hills of New York State; Cortland County. There are more cattle than people here. The nearest “big” cities are Syracuse and Binghamton and they are an hour away, in different directions, and not really all that big by most standards, though they both seem humongous to me. I look out my window to see rolling, green, thickly forested hills, wildflower laden meadows and wide open blue, blue skies. My road is barely paved. The nearest neighboring place is a 700 acre dairy farm.

My house is a big, century old farmhouse. I moved in here after my divorce in 2006. Just a little over a year later, the house, which I had named, SERENITY, burned. It was 99% gutted, and I lost my two dogs, Sally, an 11-year-old great Dane, and Wrinkles, my 14-year-old, blind bulldog. This was the culmination of my Dark Night of the soul, which had seemed to hit me all at once in 2006-2007. My mother died that year, after a 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was only 60. The youngest of my five daughters had left home that same year, and while that’s not a tragedy at all, it felt like one to me. Then came the divorce. And finally there was the fire--it seemed my darkest night wasn’t quite finished with me after all. I had lost almost everything before that point, and as I poked through the wet ashes and soot the next day, I realized that I had now been stripped all the way to the bone.

No better time to start over. (And no, I didn’t come to that realization that day--there were a few days of wallowing in pity first, particularly the day after the fire, when I hit a deer and smashed up my car, which I was practically living in!)

That’s when I started to laugh. Just sat on the side of the road as the deer bounded, uninjured and carefree, out of sight, and laughed. It was just too ridiculous at that point, to do anything else!

And from there, I picked myself up, and brushed myself off, and said, okay, there’s only one way to go from here. Forward. And that’s what I did. There I was at the age of harrurmphemmph, living in my one, mostly undamaged remaining room, with a dorm-sized mini-fridge, a futon, a TV, my cat (nine lives!) and a laptop. And not much else. (Though thank goodness the room that survived the fire, was a room that had its own attached bathroom!)

Since then I have rebuilt my beloved home, which really has become my haven, my “Serenity.” I share it now with my fiancé, Lance, and we have accumulated quite the little family together. “Little” being a relative term. We have a pair of English Mastiffs, Dozer and Daisy, who weigh 203 pounds and 208 pounds respectively, and a little pudgy English Bulldog named Niblet, who is bigger than both of them, inside her mind. We also have the aforementioned cat, Glorificus (“Glory” for short,) who adores her canine pups and keeps them firmly in line. And we've acquired a pair of stray cats as well, a mother and son, Luna (Lulu for short) and Butters aka Buddy. Lulu showed up pregnant during a lunar eclipse, had a litter, and vanished again. We found homes for all the kittens except one. Butters. We got him fixed and kept him. A few months later, Lulu returned, again expecting. This litter was born on the "Monster Moon." Again, all the kittens were spayed and neutered and placed in homes, and this time we got Lulu to the vet in time to spay her before the cycle could repeat.

Glory is not amused.

She has a story of her own, my old Glory cat, having been with me before the Dark Times descended, she went through it all with me, moved with me, survived the fire, and remains with me still. She's tolerating the newcomers. Barely.

My partner is an artist, a mechanic, a welder and an inventor, and the rumors are true, he is much younger than I

This was a fun collection I picked up ages ago and never got around to reading. I'm feeling kind of stupid now as it was freaking great! It was awesome to revisit classic vampire romance when it was just coming out into our novels. All six books were sexy, romantic and fun reads. Some were obviously better than others, but I did enjoy each one. Just in different ways.

I do recommend picking this one up, or buying them separately if you wish. They're a fun read if you love vampires.

Exhausted paranormal analyst Tamara Dey is confused by new emotions she is having for stranger Eric Marquand, the dreams that don't seem to make sense and the unfulfilled feelings about her job and purpose. When Tamara meets Eric one night she's even more confused by the familiarity she feels for him. Eric is a vampire that has lived a quiet life and shouldn't be on the radar of anyone hunting for vampires but is the main target of Tamara's guardian/boss Daniel and his lieutenant Curt. Suspicions abound wondering what are Daniel's real intentions and motives toward both Eric and Tamara and what does the institute really do weaving a mysterious element through the read.
Both Tamara and Eric were more than serviceable in the lead roles and I liked that Tamara wasn't a simpering hot-house flower though a bit too trusting and naive for my taste. Eric flexed his alpha muscles by being taciturn and exuding power and emotion toward Tamara. Together Eric and Taamara had a fair amount of chemistry and their intimacy scenes are steamy. I liked but really didn't love this origin story. Taken individually the mechanics (plot, pacing, storyline, development, etc) were all executed well but somehow I wasn't captivated by this read. For me there seemed to be quite a lot of build-up. I must also mention that especially for an older PNR, this story has held up well when so much has happened since publication in terms of writing styles. The action wrap up and conclusion were quite good as was the villain of the piece. I am intrigued enough to go forward with another book or two before making a decision on this long-running series.

Wonderful

I love this series and the difference of the vampires from what is typically wrote. I have laughed and even cried with some of them. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Story was interesting

Would've given 4 stars but I hate the format. More Chapters or decent page breaks with who's point of view you are reading would've been much more helpful.

What is good about this is that the first six books are in one, I had seen that Maggie Shayne wrote more books and so I enjoyed going back to the earliest books written so long again since some of the characters have cameos in later books, and this is a good way to understand them and find the oldest books in the series easily.

Wings in the Night is one of the best Vampire series if not the best I have read. With Twilight in the title of most of the Wings in the Night series books when I heard there would be a movie based on vampires based on the books and the title was twilight I was very excited thinking that this series was being made into movies, and disappointed to find it was another author's work.

The Wings on the Night series is enchanting! This series was the series that led me to Maggie Shayne, who I adore. I fell in love with the vampires from her series & reading this collection only served to deepen that love! I own this entire series, but I jumped on the chance to own this collection on my Kindle app. Part one contains some of my favorite characters - Rihanna, Roland, Tamara, Eric, and list goes on and on! Grab this collection and step into the enchanting stories of the immortal vampire! Embrace the night & fall in love with these amazing characters!
P.S. Maggie is getting read to return to these characters in a new series! Catch up one your reading while we wait For the new novels!

Elegant language

I enjoy elegant language. I appreciate good editing. But why does a 26 year old woman have a guardian? Is it because she's not very bright? So I finished the first book, read the introduction to the second, and then called it quits. Just because the author writes that the heroine is intelligent doesn't mean that's so, particularly when the author has said heroine doing some stupid things.

I absolutely love Maggie Shayne's books. I love how the stories stand alone but also tie together to reveal a wider world. This collection does not disappoint. Through the volume, the reader gets to follow the lives of multiple vampire couples as they try to secure their place in their world, find true love and stay out of the clutches of an evil government agency that is hell bent on destroying them. Great binge reading material!

A collection of novels and short stories about vampires falling in love (see Msg 107 for review of first in series). Overall pretty good stories, but I wouldn't recommend reading them all together like I did. They start to get a little predictable. I'm going to wait a little bit before diving into the rest she wrote.

This book started my life long love of vampires. Mixed into my psyche with the eternal sexiness of George Hamilton in Love At First Bite, Maggies story brought sexiness and vulnerability to what used to be scary. Thankfully for her fans, she continued this series and each flawed but sensual hero makes you bare your neck and beg for a Vampire of your own.

This is 6 books in one. I read 1-4. I'm not bothering to read the last two. These are paranormal romance novels, and I knew that before reading them. The romance definitely takes the forefront. There wasn't enough world building going on to make me want to read more. I love Maggie Shayne which is why I wanted to read these, but her romantic suspense/mystery novels are much better.

This book is actually a compilation of Twilight Phantasies, Twilight Memories, Twilight Illusions, Beyond Twilight, Born in Twilight, and Twilight Vows. I got this as a freebie download, but I just checked amazon and it's back up to $9.29 (3/12/14).

Overall I liked the stories but they are not my favorite way of retelling the vampire genre.

Love this series & was totally drawn into the characters in each book. Great PNR with enough suspense to keep one interested in the story. Maggie Shayne does a great job. I bought Wings in the Night, Vol. 2, as soon as I finished Vol. 1.

Maggie Shayne is one of my favorite authors. Readers of Christine Feehan and Charlaine Harris will like this book. A mix of passion, romance, and a touch of suspense.

Easy light read, enough mystery to keep you intrigued, but not enough to tax your brain after a long day.
