Emily #2

They Wear WHAT Under Their Kilts?

Rate this book
Subject: Emily’s Glossary for People Who Haven’t Been to Scotland
From: Mrs.Legolas@kiltnet.com
To: Dru@seattlegrrl.com

Faffing about: running around doing nothing. In other words, spending a month supposedly doing work experience on a Scottish sheep farm, but really spending days on Kilt Watch at the nearest castle.

Schottie: Scottish Hottie, also known as Ruaraidh, the subject of much drooling and first prize in the “Who Can Snog Him First” contest.

Mad schnoogles: the British way of saying big smoochy kisses. Will admit it sounds v. smart to say it that way.

V.: very. Using it abbreviated is coolio to the third power.

Bunch of yobbos: a group of mindless idiots. In Scotland, can also mean sheep. You can take it from me—there is nothing stupider than a sheep, especially when you’re trying to make them take their liver medicine.

Stooshie: uproar, as in “If Holly thinks she can take Ruaraidh from me without causing a stooshie, she’s out of her mind!”

Sheep dip: not an appetizer.

Katie Maxwell is a pseudonym of Katie MacAlister .

Katie MacAlister is a Seattle-area author of fiction and non-fiction. Her most popular titles are historical, contemporary, and paranormal romance. She also writes Young Adult books under the pseudonym Katie Maxwell and Mysteries under the pseudonym Kate Marsh.

About Katie

as long as she can remember, Katie MacAlister has loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. Despite her love for novels, she didn't think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. Since her editor refused to allow her to include either witty dialogue or love scenes in the software book, Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, where she could indulge in world building, tormenting characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes.

Two years after she started writing novels, Katie sold her first romance, Noble Intentions. More than thirty books later, her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and placed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell.

Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and dogs, and can often be found lurking around online.

This book really made my day! I love Emily, she's funny, witty, but has a golden heart.
I thought at first she was so shallow and only had fluttering butterflies inside her brain, but then she continued to be the best friend I've always secretly wanted to have.
My favorite part is when she told Aunt Tim how Holly might be making a terrible mistake by dating Ruaraidh.
She insisted on telling her best mate that she's running on a slippery slope, but then eventually let her friend live her own life. I just thought that it's somewhat wonderful to have such friend (Holly's lucky indeed).
Well, overall, a fun ride full of laughing, scoffing, and eye-rolling.

Yup, still very much liking these books. Emily just gets herself in super funny situations. I laughed so hard during the whole spray painting sheep bit. And the two-headed hedgehog? Oh my Crod! Of course she's completely blind that Fang is the right guy for her, but there are still several books left (and supposedly new ones will come out) so I have hope that she'll figure it out eventually.

Bismillah.

Ya, tapi ngga semua remaja sih pikirannya begitu.

While I found this book funny, it felt a bit like a filler. We herein Scotland (swoon) and Emend Holly are fighting over a guy. Emily grows up a bit and finds a new bf, but that isn't until the very end. SO I felt like some of this was just to get us to that point.

Better than the first installment, chock-full of Emily shenanigans, including some laugh-out-loud moments. Still better suited for teenage girls, but it was funny and made me want to visit Scotland.

I enjoyed this book mostly for the humor. There were many times that Emily annoyed the living daylights out of me, but I think that is because of her teenager ways. I would love to say that her boy craziness is exaggerated, but it's really not and the shenanigans she gets into because of it are pretty funny. It's been a while since I read the first one in this series but I do feel like Emily had more character growth in this book. I really liked how she realized that she wasn't actually crushing on the same guy as Holly and took a step back when he expressed interest in Holly. However, her obliviousness towards Fang at the end REALLY bugs me, but again this is typical for teen.

Overall, I can say that I really enjoyed this book, but I think I didn't LOVE it because of the fact I am no longer a teenager so the shenanigans she gets into just seem extreme, but it also leads to a lot of hilarity.

I bought this at my library book sale only because of the title. I didn't realize that it was a YA book. I gave it 3 stars because parts of it were really funny, but overall it was probably only 2 stars for me.
The book is written as a series of emails written by Emily to friends while she is at her aunt's sheep farm in Scotland doing a work study. Her bungled attempts to help with the sheep chores (especially the sheep graffiti) and to impress the farm hand Rauriadh were amusing. I thought Emily was an overly spoiled drama queen who didn't care about anyone but herself. Will I pick up the next book in the series? No. But the title itself and the funny parts were worth the 50¢ I paid for the book.

I haven't laughed this much in a long time. Maybe it's me, or maybe it's Katie with her personal tragedy, but I find her older books much more funnier than her newer ones, newer ones seem kind of forced? to be funny, while older ones are just plain funny from confusion, from mishaps and from being so embarrassing you just want to die of shame in sympathy.
So. Typical of Emily, disaster after disaster, but roll around laughing disaster. Can we say codename sheep? Or how about when she stepped into a medieval mantrap? Or used suntan lotion to have a nice Brazilian tan? (not sure about Brazilian tho, not going to check)
Whole series is going to be fabulous, I just know it.

Emily and Holly are in Scotland on a sheep farm for their month long woark experience. Now Emily must survive wild sheep attacks, and old torture devices from castle dungeons. She must stay uber coolio, though, if she is to win a contest with Holly to see who will snog Ruaraidh. Scottish god of love, first. Her orange skin may not help, though.

A fun, quick read. I picked this up at a garage sale because the title and cover illustration caught my eye.

I found the main character, Emily, unlikable and annoying, but it was still entertaining. It was also delightful to find a modern epistolary novel, told in emails. Nice twist on a very old style.
