Stoo Hample's 1961 classic elicits a fresh round of giggles with this irresistible edition featuring new art from the author-illustrator — and the same wonderful retro feel.
I am silly, You are silly, All of us are silly, Willy.
And everything in THE SILLY BOOK is the silly-willy-nilliest! There are songy sills (oops!) — silly songs, silly stories, silly poems, silly secrets, silly things to do, a silly good-night, and even silly nothings. Anyone who reads this book will laugh like anything or else turn into a bathtub. First published more than forty years ago — when it became an uproariously silly success — THE SILLY BOOK has returned to cause a new generation of children to giggle like gigglecopters (giggle giggle giggle), roll on the floor (roll roll roll), and cheer, "Boodleheimer, Boodleheimer" (CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!).
Better known as Stoo Hample, was an American children's book author, performer, playwright and cartoonist. His "Children's letters to God" is an international best seller.
This book is 97% responsible for my exceptionally odd humor that has now been passed down to my 5 kids. So much fun! As a kid we made up songs for Boodleheimer and Moon Goon. ❤️❤️❤️
A collection of witty and humorous poems, pictures, jokes and riddles re-vamped from the baby boomer generation for current generations to enjoy
This book is hysterical. The simple pictures convey the silly messages and poems perfectly. The book is very lively and enjoyable for children and adults as well. The characters are revealed besides the poems and jokes which make them adorable. The point of view is to be silly and the author uses style to create the right mood.
Genre: Poetry Recommended Grade Level: Early Primary
This book is exactly what the title says- silly! It contains different styles of poems throughout the pages, but the two characters follow along throughout, reminding me of Mo Willems' Elephant and Piggie in "Hey, we're in a book!" I could definitely see myself using this book to teach about poetry in my future classroom, as it teaches different styles, but all are short and funny as well.
Grades : 1-2,3-5 Genre: poetry This book was filled with silly stories, literally. it was such a cute funny read. it had cute pictures and a bunch of humorous text. little readers would love this book. Rate 5-5
My kids would probably give this 5 stars. This is like the Monty Python of kids books (in our family at least); once we read it, all the kids were quoting it and laughing for days and days afterwards. And, like Monty Python quotes, it gets old fast for adults. Remember when someone could just say "Ni!" and everyone would double over laughing, but it's not quite so funny anymore? That's how I feel about this book. :-)
The cd was better then the book. I know it was suppose to be silly, but it was not fun silly, it was just plain silly. I shared it with my 8 yr old niece and she liked the cd better then just reading the book by itself also. It was silly to her also but she didn't really think it was to funny, just silly.
1st grade, Fiction, The Silly Book by Stuart E. Hample is a roller coaster of nursery rhymes. Some of them you will have most likely heard of, but others I had not heard of until reading this book. I would only recommend this book if you can't find anything with nursery rhymes in it.
One of the first books I fell in love with. I read it over and over again when I was home sick, even slept with it under my pillow. I still like to sing the Boodleheimer song.
Just as the title says, this book is extremely silly! The poems that it includes would be super fun to read aloud to a class that was a little younger. This particular book came with a cd so you could also play that in a classroom. I enjoyed how some of that poems were the typical rhyming poems and then others didn’t follow the rhyming pattern at all. The illustrations were very unique and added a lot to the poems. I would consider adding this to my future classroom library.
