Leaving her childhood home to investigate a family secret, eighteen-year-old Eva Crawford discovers a faded journal that contains the stories of her ancestors, Ailsa Rose Sinclair and Alanna Sinclair. Reprint.
This is an amazing story of love and loss brought to life through the wind, water and land. Such an all encompassing love story of Ian and Ailsa, childhood sweethearts, the separate journeys their lives took and how they came back together. Both books I've read so far in this series is so descriptive, so deep it often brought tears to my eyes. Such great web of characters bringing a reality to life's ebb and flow.
Eva Crawford reaches out across a 100 years to learn of her family and the secrets of Glen Affric. Sequel to Too Deep for Tears. Just as moving as the first book, the reader is returned to the wild and haunting beauty of Glen Affric to learn what happened to Ian Fraser and Ailsa Sinclair, and their families. One of my favorite and most worn books.
In this the second book of the trilogy we focus on Ailsa, our Scottish born sister. Again Kathryn transports you into the story with the most amazing story telling, setting the scene, and talking from the heart of her characters. So beautifully written, and such an emotional story. Even when there is sadness, there is light. It's hard to describe. I can't recommend this book/trilogy enough.
The only reason this book got one star is that there are no negative star ratings possible. I didn't finish it - 137 pages was all that I could take of the purplest of prose. This lady culled the dictionary for every romantic descriptive word she could find and used them all. Wouldn't have been so bad if the story or characters had the least bit of interest.
When love transcends earthly boundaries and two people share the beauty of one soul, that is the ongoing story of Ailsa and Ian. Lived against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands their communion with nature forces them to make a fatal decision for the protection of their glen.
This book held me captive. The story is full of intrigue and romance, set in the Highlands. With I hint of the strife between Scot and English, I can't wait to start the next one.
The conclusion to the first sister's story from the first Victorian book "Too Deep For Tears". Back to the highlands to confront her first love and face the consequences of her leaving him. Memorial book! Very emotional!
As with the other books in this trilogy, I found that the purple prose and author's excessively fanciful writing style really took away from an otherwise important story.
In All We Hold Dear, Kathryn Hays continues the story of a family on a Scottish island that began with her the title Too Deep for Tears. It opens with Eva Crawford who is looking for the truth about her ancestry including her birth mother Celia Ward who gave her up at birth. She travels to Glasgow to meet a friend of her mother and finds a a worn yellowed journal that are the only clues to her lost heritage. This journal opens the door to her lost relatives, Alisa Rose Sinclair, and Mairi Rose, their individual and collective stories and their pain and loss more than a century ago. Gradually, Eva's feelings of abandonment dissipate, and compassion and wonder are birthed in her soul. The stories of Alisa Rose Sinclair, her love for the island and Ian Fraser along with other richly developed characters help Eva to recognize her own strengths and talents including an intuitive gift that is the legacy of her family line. Kathryn Hays is gifted with writing that bleeds feelings, deep and warm experiences and a faith that love is not lost but only changes form. A beautiful story of finding self and a home within the heart.
The setting of this book takes place in Scotland switching from the late 1800s to the present. It is a very good book. I would like to read it again. A man has a soul mate and wife.
