Good story, but I’m appalled that Mildred wasn’t saddened by J.B.’s supposed death. It was very jarring.

Esquivel lowered his copy of Remember Tomorrow “Dude, this is book kinda sucked. It was the first one really focused on you in 80 entries, and you get amnesia.”

J.B. smiled. “Yeah, but even nowhere leads somewhere. How many times have you heard anyone in this post-apocalyptic world say 'dude?' And how many times have you said it in the last ten pages alone? And I reckon even though this sucked, you have to consider it was written by Andy Boot, the worst Deathlands author by miles. And you didn't consider kissing the barrel and taking the last train West, like all his others.”

"Dude, still... I'd like to put a boot up Andy Boot's butt, dude."

J.B. tipped his fedora with a smirk, thankful he and the companions would be free of this author for the next few books.

I like all the Deathlands books. I found this one better than most. The story was compelling and got to explore a little bit more of the J.B. character.

Another terrific Deathlands. Leaving some questions about J.B. and whether he was faithly, will tell Mildred and how will she react... Who cares. Lots of guns and destruction.
