✨"shatter me" series by Tahereh mafi ✨

This is an amazing dystopian series with a unique writing style. The story follows Juliette, a young girl with a lethal touch, as she deals with a world filled with political power plays and a rebellion. The authors writing is beautiful and powerful, resulting in a captivating setting and a story that mixes action, mystery, and character development.

One noticeable aspect of "Shatter Me" is its romantic themes, which play an important role in Juliette's evolution. The character interactions and relationship exploration add to the story's emotional depth.

The series is full of heart-wrenching quotes and it’s so gripping that I was not able to put it down until I finished it.
I usually hate love triangles but this one was sooo interesting and i loved it.

My favorite parts of the series besides any scene with aaron warner was kenji and aaron trying to tolerate each other for the sake of juliette.
I laughed so hard and cried and cursed and smiled and my god what a journey it was. The last book was definitely the perfect ending to this beautiful series.

Would I recommend this series to other people? Definitely! It’s worth the hype ❤️‍🔥

Thought I would do a full review so overall 4.5⭐️

Loved this series and I’m so attached to these characters - but would’ve given it a higher rating if there was more explanation to the reestablishment and like the world building in general. Idk what it is but I feel like there was something missing it’s hard to point out - Though I recommend it’s so addicting!

I've written individual reviews for each book, but as a series I can't say enough how much I love it. Shatter Me and Unravel Me are my favorites out of the series. Juliette's journey to self and her struggle with such mental illness is what spoke to so profoundly.

I read Suicide Notes thinking it would be this bone shattering, heart wrenching piece of work, but it just did not do it for me. While I did enjoy it, I was expecting to be in mental shambles after and was far from it. THIS (Shatter Me Series) did that for me. I read the first book in two or three days. I gave no rest before I started the second book and immediately had to buy the rest of the series. I was sucked into those first two books so much that when I didn't have the third book to pickup I honestly did not know what to do with myself.

I stated this in a few reviews already but I will stand by this till I die. Tahereh Mafi is a better writer than SJM. If you've read ACOTAR or TOG then you need to read this Series.

Troubled, and rightfully so, youth are drawn together by unseen forces finding relationships of all kinds through each other. Father figures and little brothers tugging at heart strings you didn't know you had. The war between truth and reality you will have with yourself will be taxing.

Juliette, the main character throughout, is a strong compassionate and full force of a female character. She fights with her emotions and her mentality thinking that she is what everyone's called her her entire life. A monster. Except for one person, Adam Kent, who didn't believe this to be true.

Adam was Juliette's only companion in grade school before she was abruptly thrown in the asylum. After some time they're reunited under strained circumstances. He, an undercover agent for the Reestablishment, her, his assignment. She immediately recognizes him, and while he knows full well who she is and she makes him feel can't let her or his superiors know of these feelings. After some time they escape and learn more about each other and themselves than they were prepared for. Causing a strain on their relationship that took them by surprise.

Kenji, Juliette's BFF, is a high spirited jokester. He keeps things light when everything around him seems to be doomed. While his character is displayed as mostly surface level antics he is a deeply empathetic person who struggles with his emotions.

Warren is the morally grey villain throughout. He does horrible things, but for the right reasons. He of course can't let these reasons be known in order to survive his own personal hell where his father is Satan himself overseeing warrens torture. While we see his character evolve and soften, it's only for Juliette.

Anderson is a piece of shit, and I simply hate him!

Castle is the father figure. He is the founder of Omega Point, a resistance group in sector 45. Kenji was his first recruit raising him from the time he was 8 after he ran from the orphanage. Castle takes on a huge responsibility for every member of OP and he enjoys his role. He struggles with being a leader and a personable figure taking on too much of everyone's problems, and can't seem to keep things in line with all these new guests.

All other characters are quickly attached to Juliette becoming her friends. While it takes her a while to realize this she seems to create her own family out of the people she has left.

Tahereh's writing is poetic and entrancing. While mostly fluid some of it was a bit choppy; however, I will be reading every book she writes from now on.

Oh my god. I have already forgotten how to swim if this is what it means to drown in a never-ending fiction ocean!
To be honest, the Shatter Me series is one of the best series I have read in a while. The characters, twists, plot, and storyline are all up to mark, but the way Tahereh Mafi describes every single minute of detail is what fascinates me the most.
My friends worshipped Aaron Warner 24/7 (which later led to me devoting myself to him) and forced me to read the series. I still remember when I started reading Shatter Me and was expecting Aaron to make me go all head over heels for him yet all I got was Adam which was the saddening part.
My favorite book in the series was Defy Me where the author discloses some mind-boggling truths that change the entire perspective of Aaron and Juliette's life.
Besides the fact that the author stretched the story a bit too far, the title speaks for itself: this is not a sugar-coated series and is rather tragic. But the lessons to take from it stand powerful.
Loved it!

Nothing will ever compare to this. This series that I finished in a little over a one week. I binged this entire series and I do not regret it at all. These characters I hold in my heart, the life lessons and themes we were taught throughout the books. Ugh just everything about this series was just perfect. These twist and turns that kept popping up kept me glued to my chair reading for countless hours.

oh my god!! This book series is my most favourite read ever, the writing..the characters, the storyline. I’m so INLOVE! I’ve never felt so attached to a book series before until I read this one and now in 2024, it’s still my favourite read ever. There’s tension, angst, romance, action!! Everything you could ask for in a fantasy book. I’ve read this series many times and every time I fall in love with it even more. I definitely recommend, if you couldn’t tell by my words above haha.

I started this series and got really interested in the actual plot but since it’s a thinly veiled romance, the plot kinda got swept under the rug by the end. I liked the reveals and way the plot was going but the end was choked and left WAY too much untouched.

*.✧ review ✧.*

this series was an emotional rollercoaster from the second i opened the first book. it was a shaky start, but it had its redemption arc and it’s one of my favorite series i’ve read.

juliette started out as a weak main character but she quickly evolved throughout the series as she evolved as a human being. multiple characters evolve through the series, and tahereh does a great job of showing us their reasons behind it. not only do they change because they can, they change because they want to. kenji, warner, and even adam all went through their own personal journeys to become better people for the ones they love.

this series is about finding the people you can trust and love no matter what, even through a war. Even though it’s fiction, it’s something many people and even myself can relate to. these characters not only teach us things about ourselves, they teach us about others and what people are the right ones to keep by your side.

overall, this series had a slow start but sped up quickly and was such a good series to start off the year with! i flew through these books and i definitely recommend them to anyone wanting to read something that will get them out of a slump.

Review, Rezension (English,Deutsch) Shatter Me – Tahereh Mafi ✨💫*

Shatter Me is the first book in the series of the same name by Tahereh Mafi and was published in 2011. The book belongs to the dystopian genre with strong elements of romance and fantasy – perfect for anyone who loves suspense, emotion, and a little heart-pounding excitement. 💥 I would classify it as enemies to lovers, found power, and forbidden love.

The story revolves around 17-year-old Juliette Ferrars, who has been locked in a cell for almost a year—all alone, without human contact. The reason: *her touch is deadly.* Anyone she touches dies. In the dark, dystopian world where the so-called “Reestablishment” has taken control, Juliette is considered a monster—but suddenly everything changes when she gets a cellmate: Adam. 🖤

💫 Characters:

Juliette is an incredibly fascinating main character—sensitive, fragile, and at the same time incredibly strong. With every page, you can feel how much she vacillates between fear and hope, between the desire to harm no one and the longing to finally be free. Adam is the epitome of loyalty and warmth, and the connection between the two is simply electrifying ⚡ (literally!).
*And then there's Warner—charismatic, dangerous, complex. You hate him... and then somehow you love him. (literally!).
*And then there's Warner—charismatic, dangerous, complex. You hate him... and then somehow you love him. (By the second volume at the latest, I promise 😉).*

Every character has depth—no one is purely good or evil. You understand why they do what they do, and that's what makes them so vivid.

🌍 Themes:

“Shatter Me” is not only a love story, but also a story about identity, self-acceptance, and power. Juliette learns that her ‘weakness’ is actually her greatest strength – a beautiful image for anyone who has ever felt different or “too much.” The book also addresses control, freedom, and the question of what humanity really means.

✍🏼 Writing style:

Tahereh Mafi's style is simply unique. Poetic, intense, sometimes almost like a poem in prose. There are crossed-out thoughts, repetitions, inner monologues – you feel as if you are sitting right inside Juliette's head. This unusual, emotional language ensures that you experience every one of her emotions – fear, longing, love, anger. It's as if you're not just reading the book, but feeling it. 💔🔥

🌌 Atmosphere:

The mood fluctuates between hopelessness and sparks of love and light. The dystopian world is gray, empty, destroyed—and yet Juliette's inner fire keeps shining through. The mixture of suspense, romance, and inner drama ensures that you devour the pages.

And the ending? An absolute cliffhanger that will have you reaching for volume 2 right away! 😱

💖 My conclusion:

I love this book. From the first page to the last, it captivated me, moved me, and made me think. Juliette is one of the strongest female protagonists I've ever read about – and her development throughout the series is simply wow.

A word of warning: it's highly addictive! 😍
I recommend Shatter Me to anyone aged 14 and up who is looking for strong emotions, profound characters, and a dash of dystopia with heart.

5 out of 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
A book that won't let you go – in the best possible way. 💞

I hope you enjoyed my review of Shatter Me!
Until next time – and remember: sometimes our true strength lies in what makes us different. 💫🫶🏼📖

Deutsch:
Rezension: Shatter Me (Ich fürchte mich nicht) – Tahereh Mafi ✨💫*

Kleine Warnung: Es besteht akute Suchtgefahr! 😍

4/5⭐️

The rating is highly subjective due to falling in love with:

1) Aaron Warner

2) Kenji Kishimoto

Everyone else is neutral on the list.

I did not read every novella but I did get to the bigger books and plot lines.

The initial setup: The first book (Shatter Me) gave an intriguing opening to a series, Juliette and her back story was interesting, the power she possessed and how she was scared of what she could do to others. Adam is a whole other story, in the beginning he seemed attentive and protective but I knew his nice guy act wouldn’t last long. Now Warner, although didn’t really give his backstory as much until I would say ignite me always seemed misunderstood, which was ultimately true. I did think the random build up to their first kiss (Warner and Juliette’s) didn’t make sense at the time but as the series progressed it made more sense later.

The world building: it expanded over time and created more clarity not entirely but some. The reestablishment was created out of large world leaders coming together to create the ultimate weapons, I guess my only problem with the premise of the motivations was that they originally came together to contain these unnaturals but it seems like the majority of these characters in this world had powers (including their own children) and yet the world leaders needed these powers in order to stay powerful? I get the reasoning it’s kinda just like wow, you really just wrote in circles. They’re tired of being controlled and stripped away from their rights but any chance of that changing and they revolt. The sad thing is we never get any resolution on that, Juliette and Warner never get to help the people as they intended and left on a major cliffhanger.

I guess it represents current political structures and shows the real power dynamics at play amongst allies and other countries and how we’re divided but they could have wrapped it up but instead dragged it out in between the main love story.

The main characters:

Juliette (Ella) in the beginning was very whiny, I almost stopped the series entirely due to her behavior but she grew stronger and by the end of it I was proud of how much she overcame. All the while treating people with love and understanding. Showing that kindness is the ultimate strength. Something Warner had to learn overtime and finally understood.

Warner like I said I’m in love with him. I have zero Qualms. His backstory was amazing to me. So complex and rich. I only wish they gave a little more context on his relationship with his mother and the strength of his bond with Adam and James as well as Kenji.

Kenji was by far my favorite character, his attitude, banter and overall storyline made me the happiest but that could be because I loved me a good class clown in school. His character was the most relatable because we either hide ourselves behind humor like him or we know someone like that in our inner circles. Plus I love that he also found love later in the series as well. His friendship with Warner was also my favorite thing to come out of this series. I liked that although Juliette was the one that they had common ground with, they ultimately made the choice to care for each other.

The other side characters had depth too I guess, enough to get understanding behind their motivations but not enough to mention. The parents were all pieces of crap and I know that’s a point but the only one who had a positive relationship was Kenji who lost both of his parents. Childhood trauma is very real for people and I guess it was deeply explored so I got to credit them for that.

All in all it did seemed unfinished which I’m sure in the near future we’ll get another release to hopefully clean it up the story but who knows. Either way, I enjoyed myself and hope that if done right could be a cool adaptation of a tv series.

The "Shatter Me" series by Tahereh Mafi is a rollercoaster of emotions, intrigue, and character development that left me utterly captivated from start to finish. When I first delved into "Shatter Me," I was taken aback. At first glance, it was a whirlwind of confusion; the fragmented prose and repetitive thoughts made me question Juliette's mental state and solidified Warner as the series' villain. It was a bold and jarring start that initially threw me off.

But as I continued, Mafi's storytelling prowess began to shine. The character development throughout the series is nothing short of extraordinary. The evolution of Juliette,(Ella), and her slow-burn romance with Warner is both intense and breathtaking. Their connection feels almost predestined, with each encounter adding depth and complexity to their relationship.❤️

Kenji's introduction as Adam's friend and his unwavering support for Juliette, despite his aversion to Warner, and even as circumstances shift dramatically, adds a layer of loyalty and humor to the narrative. His character provides a grounding force amidst the chaos, and his interactions with Juliette are some of the most heartfelt in the series.

Each character is meticulously crafted, introduced at precisely the right moment, and developed with such care that they leap off the page. Mafi ensures that readers can visualize and connect with them on a deep level.

However, I did find myself wishing for more exploration of Adam and James's characters. James, in particular, deserved more attention and development. His role, though significant, felt somewhat underexplored, leaving me wanting to know more about his experiences and growth!

Overall, the "Shatter Me" series is a masterful blend of dystopian elements, complex character dynamics, and heart-stopping romance. For me it's a journey of self-discovery, love, and resilience that will leave readers both breathless and deeply satisfied. Mafi's unique writing style and profound storytelling make this series an unforgettable reading experience.

If you're looking for a series that will keep you on the edge of your seat while tugging at your heartstrings, "Shatter Me" is a must-read!!!!💥

To the world she's formidable,To me? She is my world.🫠❤️
~Aaron Warner

It was really good experience. This series was my first longest series I read till now. I mostly prefer standalone, duology or trilogy. But reading this series was really fun and I'm looking forward to read more long series now.
In this series there a alot of unnaturals( people with weird and cool powers 😆). This story revolves around reestablishment took place all over the countries, who's destroying cultures, religion and peace. People have lost there hopes to fight back. They have accepted there fate. But no one knows there are still few underground rebel groups.
So the story starts with Julliet who's in prison.Julliet is shown Strong but still broken protagonist. I loved her character the way her growth is shown is impressive. She was such a scared baby in starting who never wanted to hurt anyone and the only thing she desire was to be accepted by people. Her touch was lethal but she never wanted to hurt anyone not even her enemies.
I find Adam an ok ok kind of guy most people hate him but He was not a bad guy he was just not compatible with julliet, he wanted a sweet girl who need to be protected by him and he wanted a happy family. Yeah After loosing his mind he ill treated julliet. So I don't justify that. But on the other hand Warner was something else whoaaa the perfect guy any girl will want. In the Starting two books he looked like a monster but after reading is pov book( destroy me) My views completely changed .He was a broken man. He didn't knew how to show love. I like how he was completely different person around julliet.
I loved julliet and Kenji friendship. He was such a good friend always trusted her, always supported her. He was a fun guy who don't show his own pain.I think in julliet's growth Kenji have played big role. Obviously warner was also great help for her.
In the end we get to know how reestablishment become so strong how julliet is connected with this all. I'm not trying to give spoilers. Simply it was good read.

I cannot explain how much I love this series Aaron Warner will forever be my number one book boyfriend he isn't even a book boyfriend he's my book husband he deserves to be on that list. This book made me giggle laugh kick my feet and cry all at the same time. My heart burst every single time when Warner was being a little sweetheart towards Juliette and the fact that he's the only one that calls her Ella makes it even better. Don't get me started on Kenji he is my number one favorite supporting character out of every single supporting character I've ever read he's funny just like me and sarcastic I love sarcastic characters. And yes I am an Adam hater I don't care what you say what he did to Juliette was horrible and I will never forgive him for that. but the scene when Juliet was pushing the button for Aaron to come back to her and that he was just rushing to come to see her and he was like what happened are you okay and he was just so worried about her. I had to put the book down because I was blushing way too much, my friend who is sitting right next to me was worried about my health because it looks like I had a disease that's how hard I was blushing, to be honest, the blushing I get from Warner should be a disease why isn't it. anyway, this book deserves a bigger rating than 5 out of 5 because it is my favorite series of all time and it will always have my heart no other book will top this series.

I read these books far too fast! It was over before I knew it. I took the first two books with me on holiday - finished them in one afternoon so of course i had to also buy the third in kindle format so i could keep reading. To be honest I think I ended up buying about 3 on the kindle haha.

The plot is great and the author gets right into it without too much of the boring descriptive scene setting - which I am not a fan of with this genre of book.
The only thing I would complain about is the Novella's which have been printed 2 in 1 - so book 1.5 and 2.5 are together which is fine, but then you read book 1 and go to the first novella book, then go to book 2 and go BACK to the same novella for book 2.5. It got quite confusing at some stages and I do feel quite a bit of the novella's didn't add to much to story.

The main books are fabulous! The characters, loveable - all of them. Especially of course Aaron (Aaron Bae!).

I have to also comment on the authors use or writing from the main characters view point including her inner thought process - such as thinking something and then disregarding it. It was a great way to put across the mental state of our beloved main character and i actually really enjoyed it - not thinking i would when i first saw this.

An excellent series and a great read, sad that it was over so soon!

Just some short reviews for each:
1.) Shatter Me: A giant introduction for what's to come.
1.5.) Destroy Me: I fell in love with Warner's character, and wished for a Juliette x Warner chapter
2.) Unravel Me: Kinda hated Juliette in the first half, Kenji is the MVP, Warner is the King, and Adam.. well he threw a bunch of tantrum, and I hayed that too.
2.5) Fracture Me: Adam's perspective from the first war. I'm being bias to Warner at this point, so I thought this was irrelevant to the progress of the series.
3.) Ignite Me: Best book of the Series so far. Get Yourself a Kenji. Warner MVP! Adam.. we're cool, you should date Alia. Lots of Goosebump moments.
---
4.) Restore Me: Kinda hated how Juliette forgets her role lots of times. Kenji and Warner is amazing, but let's add Nazeera to my favorite list. - uh oh moment near the end making the next book unpredictable.
4.5) Shadow Me: Kenji's perspective. The everything-is-cheerful-when-he's-around guy of the series.. has a dark secret?
5) Defy Me: Amazing book! the stories universe just got bigger - literally, they're involving the whole world now. Humor through Kenji, and emotion through Aaron and Juliette or whatever her name is *Wink* - also a very beautiful ending!
5.5) Reveal Me: SPOILER Kenji and Nazeera moments woooh. cliffhanger that makes the final book unpredictable.
5.) Imagine Me: Well, very fast paced, and multiple time skips. Anderson was such a glorious villain, Kenji and Warner brotherly love is everything, and an amazing fight no one saw coming.
---
6.) Believe Me: An amazing conclusion to end it all. Happily ever after.
