Glory NC #2

Lois Lane Tells All

Rate this book
She thinks she's Lois Lane...
Susan Collins always wanted to be a hard-hitting reporter, but there's not much call for her talents in sleepy Glory, North Carolina. Then the Murder Mystery Club--a trio of enterprising octogenarians--decides to open their own CSI lab at the assisted-living center. And when strange accidents begin to happen around town, Susan senses she could be on to the news story of her dreams.

He doesn't want to be her Superman...
Mark Tremayne has returned to Glory to take over as CFO of The Glory Examiner. His job is to keep the newspaper profitable, which means covering the annual Baptist Church Bake-Off and selling ads for the county fair--not allowing his too-sexy-for-her-own-good reporter to hare off after a wild story that could alienate some of the townspeople.

Together ... they're Kryptonite...
Mark's and Susan's viewpoints could be from different planets, but their mutual attraction is in total alignment. Despite their arguments, the indomitable redhead and the hot accountant are a sexual explosion waiting to happen. And when it does, Glory had better watch out.

Susan is the small town girl who has recently taken over as editor of the town paper. She writes a Dear Bob column and other fluffy pieces that involve her town, like the annual Bake-Off at the Baptist church.

Mark is a numbers man, successfully building his own accounting career in Raleigh, North Carolina; he comes home to help get his sisters newly acquired paper back on its feet. The paper has been coasting along in the red under the previous owner and Mark wants to crunch the numbers till the books are in the black and he can get back to his big city life.

But things aren’t as boring in this small town as Mark remembered. Soon he finds he can’t get the fiery red head, Susan, out of his mind and when someone tries to kill her, things get even crazier in this little town.

This was my first book by this author and even though the story was predictable, I still found myself enjoying it. It made me chuckle a time or two, though most of the time when I thought the author was going for a laugh, it seemed too forced and too slapstick to get one out of me. There are a lot of zany old folks that keep the town hopping and guessing, reminiscent of Janet Evanovich’s wacky Grandma Mazur in the Stephanie Plum series.

This is one of those fun and mindless reads you take to the beach or on an airplane; a comfortable book to pass an afternoon with.

I decided to read Lois Lane Tells All as while I enjoyed the romance aspect of Karen Hawkins' regency fare, there were too many period errors not to irk me. So I thought that perhaps with the historical aspect removed and only the romance to cover I should really like the book? Unfortunately that wasn't the case. The descriptions were so repetitive, the scenario too trite and the resolution too rushed and flat.

Might end up reading the next in the Scots series just too see if anything improves?!?!?!

This was my first book by this author. I was drawn in by the catchy title. It was a humorous romance, very light reading, but enjoyable. The romance between "Lois" and "Clark" was the main plot with a town mystery involved as well. I will go back and find the first in Hawkins' Glory series and read Nick and Roxie's story in the first Glory mystery which seems to have been more serious than this one. The Murder Mystery Club from Assisted Living solved that one, too.
I'd rate the book three stars but the characters are lovable and entertaining and I look forward to other books with them recurring.

Fun for a pool day or rainy day. Just get used to the words firm, pockets, flexing, and long legs... Easy read, I enjoyed it, but it is definitely not acclaimed literary work. I'll probably try the next book too.

Edit: I skimmed the rest to the end and stand by my review. I'd also just like to add justice is not served and the ending is not satisfying 🙃. This is honestly probably more of a 1.5 than a 2 star.

This is very silly and over the top, which is fine when there are other redeeming qualities but this doesn’t have much for me to bite on to. I might skim the rest to see what happens with the church and mayor but otherwise I don’t care what happens.
Most importantly, the writing is distractingly bad. The POV changes between our male and female MCs within the same page with no denoting or seeming rhyme or reason. Sometimes it’ll be a couple of pages in one POV and switch and other times it’ll be a singular paragraph or even sentence in the alternate POV and switch back. On top of that, all Mark and Susan think about is each other naked. It’s a wonder they can get anything done. It’s all lust too because we don’t see any build as to why else they would like each other.
Also I know it’s the time period but I’m just so over reading “not like other girls” stories. I get it, she has almost all guy friends, likes to play poker and fix her house with power tools. She never wears makeup or skirts because she’s so different and just effortlessly sexy. Other girls are so bad and vapid, but not Susan. Susan’s the best because she’s basically a bro but with a smokin hot bod. 🙄 great.

Indian Harbor Beach Club. Obviously the person who left the book selection is a fan of romance novels which I am not. It’s probably unfair for me to even write a review. But yeah, terrible writing! Who adopts a St Bernard puppy who knows nothing of dog training? And her Dad liking the dog because of the association with flask carrying and he’s an alcoholic- total cringe as my boys would say.

I read the first book in the series Talk of the Town and was not very impressed. I decided to finish the second book and I liked it a little more. Still not one of my favorite books, but I wanted to see the series all of the way through.

I got to page 75 and said enough is enough. I could not stand that business between Susan and Mark wanting to climb each others bodies. Of what I read, I didn't find it funny at all.

Susan Collins has an explosive attraction to her temporary boss, Mark Tremayne. Mark has returned to their town of Glory in hopes of making The Glory Examiner profitable again. Susan and Marks attraction is mutual and irresistible but Mark will not be staying in Glory permanently and he is her boss! When the towns “murder mystery club”, a group of extremely bored assisted-living center residents, start investigating strange “accidents” around town, Mark and Susan’s resistance breaks down. While Susan investigates the annual Baptist Church Bake off, Mark discovers more and more about this charming and crazy woman and the town she loves. The question is will he be able to love it too?

Lois Lane Tells All is an exquisite novel of humor and romance, combining the charms of small town life with everyday people and believable occurrences. Susan, who has always had a thing for Clark Kent, is looking for her own real life superman. Mark quickly discovers Susan is much like Lois Lane and together their steamy scenes are kryptonite. The novel is full of charming characters that made me laugh on numerous occasions. Both Susan and Mark have past that could hinder their future together if neither is willing to change. This light suspense throughout the book was great! I wondered multiple times what was really going on.

Overall this book was highly enjoyable and I am now a fan of Karen Hawkins! I will not hesitate before reading another one of her books. My initial fears about this novel being to superman filled for me were quickly distinguished. The author used Susan’s love for all things superman at the perfect dosage for the story. I was instantly captivated and didn’t want to put the book down. I loved that I could feel the heat and desire between the characters in between steamy scenes. The book has a very realistic feel to it. It was a pleasure to read and is definitely in my “re-read” pile.

In Lois Lane Tells All, set in Glory, North Carolina, we meet Susan Collins, a smart, sassy and sexy reporter/editor of Glory's only newspaper. She's responsible for her father, is a sucker for an oversized pup and is lusting quite heavily after her boss, Mark Tremayne. He's also the accountant who's going to bring the newspaper in to the black, due to its financial problems.
Mark is an accountant-he likes numbers, charts and PowerPoint presentations. He also likes Susan. A lot. She's sexy, has a perfect ass and he's mesmerized by her hair.
Both lust after each other, but sparks really start to fly after the first kiss. They begin their adventure with that first kiss, a very HOT kiss, and christen their relationship with some mind-blowing sex in the elevator (fans self).
Ladies, that is my favorite scenes, for obvious reasons. ;)
Soon, however, we see mysterious happenings revolving around Susan and the Bake-off missing money puzzle--is someone trying to kill her? Enter the Murder Mystery Club, comprising of 3 senior citizens and their cohort, brassy, color-blind, fashion-dense, but lovable Tundy. Their secret not-so-secret detective work soon brings them to Susan and Mark's attention... and someone else's as well.
All is resolved and Susan's would-be-murderer is found out and arrested, all after some pie, a la mode, of course. However, Susan and Mark are sending mixed signals. Is Mark leaving, does he love her, does she love him?
When Susan's father falls sick, Mark comes back to her, staying with her throughout the trying ordeal and finally reveals his love to her. She loves him back. He pulls out a great ring (it was shiny, in my mind) and she accepts.
Fun times, great laughs and a love and lust that just won't quit! Did I mention the Murder Mystery Club, because those guys are a hoot! Capers abound and true love reveals itself. You'll enjoy reading this story by Karen Hawkins!

Susan Collins has always wanted to be Lois Lane, but The Glory Examiner, the one and only newspaper in Glory, North Carolina, is a far cry from the Daily Planet. Plus, her boss, Mark Treymayne, is no Clark Kent…even if he does look the part. Mark’s goal is to make The Glory Examiner profitable and he doesn’t like it that Susan’s alienating some of their readership with her newest stories. Then Glory’s Murder Mystery Club – a group of CSI-loving octogenarians – opens a crime lab at the assisted living center and life in small-town Glory really gets crazy. Can Glory’s own Lois and Clark figure out what’s at the bottom of all the strange things happening in their town? Or will their most distracting attraction for one another be their own personal kryptonite?

Karen Hawkins delivers one snappy story in the sassy Lois Lane Tells All. Ms. Hawkins blends romance, intrigue, comedy, and a dose of geekiness perfectly, making Lois Lane Tells All one fun read. I adored Superman-loving Susan and slightly-stuffy Mark. The sparks they strike off one another are red-hot and their banter priceless. Add in a cast of quirky secondary characters, including the members of the Murder Mystery Club, and you’ve got one rollicking romantic comedy.

Lois Lane Tells All is the sequel to Talk of the Town, the story of Mark’s sister Roxie and Susan’s former boss, Nick. There are a few spoilers for Talk of the Town in Lois Lane Tells All, but having not read Talk of the Town (yet), I can safely say Susan and Mark’s story fully stands on its own. I absolutely adored Lois Lane Tells All, and I greatly hope Ms. Hawkins writes more books for Glory’s residents (can one dare to hope she chooses to write about Susan’s too-hot-to-handle neighbor Ethan?). While I wait to see if there will be a return to Glory, I’ll happily curl up with the irresistible Lois Lane Tells All once more.

I had the pleasure of requiring this book through Romance In The Backseat's web conference back in March and I have to say, Thank You!

Susan Collins, AKA Lois Lane, wants to be a serious reporter. But the quiet town of Glory, North Carolina doesn't have too many juicy stories besides the bake-off at the local Baptist Church. Susan loves where she lives and knows everyone, except the new account for her towns failing paper- and the one she works for.

Mark Tremayne is not staying in Glory. He's a city man with a successful accounting business that he's put on the side for his sister's failing paper. The last thing he needed was some sassy, sexy, red-head giving him trouble. And that's exactly what Susan does-with her lips and perfectly fitted jeans. He wants to stay away, he wants to leave the little town where everyone knows everything, but from the instant Susan's lips first touched his, Mark's nerves of steel withered.

When these two worlds collide, from mutual attraction, the town of Glory will never be the same.

Warning: M/F, Steamy love scene in a broken elevator and a really big puppy

LOL What a fun book! The physical attraction was wonderfully written while the elderly sub-characters made me laugh with their shenanigans. Susan was multi-layered and vulnerable while her Clark Kent was strong and dependable. I actually reread this novel right after finishing it because there was just something so special about the fun.

If you're looking for a relaxing read with lots of fun and flirting, this is your book!

Congratulations Karen Hawkins on Four Blue Roses!

Meh. First book I've read by this author. I'd probably give it a 2.5 stars if I could. I liked the main characters well enough, but found the peripheral characters to be one-dimensional. The jokes with the bumbling geriatric mystery sleuthing club wore on me after awhile...senior moment jokes are only funny a couple of times and then they're just old and tired. This book had WAY too much space devoted to long, drawn out conversations centering on them. I found the ending to be somewhat unbelievable, with the hero selling everything he has, giving up his entire life and business, to move to his tiny hometown- without even seeing if the heroine was interested. Major eyeroll ending for me.

Yes, it was a bit of fluff. I read the synopsis of the book before I put it on hold at the library. It seemed interesting especially about the 5 seniors who call themselves the Mystery Murder Club. The main character is a reporter for a local paper. So with that in mind I thought I'd be reading a good murder mystery with some humor involved. It couldn't have been more the opposite. Its a romance novel with some humor. Evidently there is a preceding book involving some of the characters in this book. I'll not be reading it. If you like romance stories then this might fill the bill. I prefer something a bit more involved and maybe some small amount of romance in it and occasionally some humor.

Unfortunately, the story following Talk of the Town lacks the charm of the first book for me. Mark and Susan seems to think about the other's sexiness most of the time, and I'm not a fan of such thing. One or two times are okay, but not if it takes several scenes. It becomes boring. I also find the scene where Susan uses short skirt and great make-up just to hook Mark's attention to be cliché and sexist. Personally, after that scene, the book is going downhill in my eyes.

I wasn't too sure about this book. I love Karen Hawkins, her historicals to be more specific. Her first contemporary book didn't do it for me, so picking this one up was more of a curious act on my part. Would this book be any better than the first one or would it be more like her historicals that I enjoy so much?

It definitely wasn't like her historical romance, but it does have that sexual tension and the humor that I expect from Karen Hawkins. But...it just didn't do it for me. The characters are likable enough, but at times I found both Mark and Susan to be more on the bleh side...yep, I found them boring. I did enjoy reading the antics of the senior citizens.

3.5 stars on this.

I didn't realize going it that it was a follow-up book to Talk of the Town, which was a pleasant surprise. Mark and Susan are great. The way they banter back and forth had me laughing out loud.

The Murder Mystery Club was once again hysterical! Tundy and her velour outfits, Clara and her QVC jewelry obsession, and C.J. holding his pants up so they don't fall down = HILARITY!

It almost felt like there would be another book to follow this one *crosses fingers* let's hope.

Entertaining, spicy, and I just loved revisiting many of the characters from Talk of The Town. It was great getting to know Roxie's brother Mark Tremayne and Susan Collins better. As the two main characters of Lois Lane Tells All it was great to watch their romance blossom as they battled each other and tried to solve the current town mystery (along side the Murder Mystery Club of course!).

A great follow up to Talk of the Town!

First off, I picked this off a grocery store shelf and didn't realize exactly how steamy it was. So if you don't like steamy, don't read this book.

Even so, I found the authors writing style absoutely delightful. I couldn't stop laughing for much of it, the first chapter was particularly hillarious. And I couldn't even manage to put the book down until I'd gotten through over half of it.

Good job Karen Hawkins.

This is the second book in the “Glory” series. I really liked the first book - TALK OF THE TOWN - but there was something missing in this one for me. I never could get into the story or Mark and Susan as a couple. There was something about the two of them that didn’t work for me, but I still can’t put my finger on what it was. I think I needed more attraction between the two of them. We are told over and over how attracted they are to each other, but to me it felt forced.
