Akiko: Pieces of Gax

Rate this book
Akiko's always prepared for something out of this world, but when she goes on a pleasure trip to Gollarondo with Poog, Mr. Beeba, Spuckler Boach, and Gax she can barely believe her eyes--Gollarondo is a city that was built completely upside down! Forget sight-seeing. All Akiko wants to do is keep both feet on the ground.

Which is not so easy. Almost as soon as the gang arrives Spuckler's robot Gax accidentally flies off one of Gollarondo's balconies and into the Moonguzzit Sea below. Good He survived the fall. Bad Anything and everything that falls from Gollarondo is automatically the property of Nugg von Hoffelhiff--the ruler of the seas beneath the city.

By the time Akiko and her crew are able to gain an audience with Nugg, he has sold Gax to others. What's worse, he actually broke Gax down into spare parts to maximize his profits! It's up to Akiko and the gang to retrieve the pieces of Gax before they are spread far and wide across the Moonguzzit Sea. But the people who bought the parts run the gamut from off the wall to downright villainous, so saving Gax's neck (and body and wheels) may turn out to be Akiko's most dangerous mission yet.

For many years now, I have loved Akiko books. In Akiko: Training Master, Mark Crilley decided to update Akiko's look and show that she is growing up, but drew her to look not like a 12-year old, but rather like she was 17.

I am happy to report that Akiko now looks like she is 12-years old. Wahoo! Much better. As for the artwork, once again Mark Crilley shows us why he is both a talented writer and a wonderful artist. His artwork is fun and draws the reader right in (I sure wish I could have read some of his Akiko comic books).

This story has to be one of my favorite Akiko tales and I love an old fashioned treasure hunt, which is basically what the story is about. Of course, most treasure hunts don't have mutating dogs, evil robots and other nasty alien things guarding what you are looking for. Akiko: Pieces of Gax is a fast-paced, fun, wonderful, and exciting story that readers of all ages will enjoy.

Overall, I thought the story was the best one yet and I cannot wait it see what Mark Crilley has planned for Akiko on her next adventure.

I rated this book a 10 out of 10.

It was a fantastic book, but at one part Akiko says that it might have been the most dangerous mission so far, but I had to disagree with that immensely. Actually, I have to say that it might have been one of the most easy challenges. Well, not exactly easy, but they have had much harder missions. But, (please excuse my bad grammar) all in all, it really was a fantastic book.
