Gena Showalter is the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of over seventy books, including the acclaimed Lords of the Underworld series, the Gods of War series, the White Rabbit Chronicles, and the Forest of Good and Evil series. She writes sizzling paranormal romance, heartwarming contemporary romance, and unputdownable young adult novels, and lives in Oklahoma City with her family and menagerie of dogs and cats.
The Amazon’s Curse is better than the first and third book but not as good as the second and forth.
Generally speaking I enjoyed this series but I must confess that part of the rating I gave to these books is based more on my predisposition to like everything Gena Showalter writes than in my actual valuation of the books, sorry, my bad.
The Lords of the Underworld series and Alien Huntress series have a more complex and interesting universe and on the whole I consider them to be superior to the Atlantis series books.
Am I the only one who remembers that Zane raped Nola in the last book?!!?!!? And now I'm supposed to believe that they are happy and together and in love and sexy because .... they were both sex slaves in the past!? And they can heal each other, or some crap like that?!?!?
This is the end of Atlantis series, a series that started off as actually enjoyable but has deteriorated greatly since then.
P.S. Also, the Amazons are HORRIBLE people. Abusive to children in order to "toughen them up," raping and enslaving men in order to become pregnant, shunning and punishing any tribe member who shows love or affection to a male... Just a horrible tribe of women to fit into this world of horrible people.
This was the wrap-up to the storyline that was set up in The Vampire's Bride. Technically there were three vampires permanently mated, two males and one female, so perhaps The Vampire Brides (plural) would have been more accurate.
Some people you just can't please... I love the short final story of this series and have no problem with it being shorter than the others. GS answered all the questions I mentally posed. She wrapped it up all pretty. She delivered it with aplomb.
Do I believe men really act or talk like that to women? Even in Atlantis? Of course not!! It's called fiction and like gooey divinity or creamy fudge, it is a decadent treat to indulge in. I just can't eat a steady diet of it.
So as much as I've enjoyed my sojourn into Atlantis with Ms. Showalter, it is time to take my leave and venture into other fictional realms to sample from other genres.
Ms. Showalter ~ Namaste. I have enjoyed my stay in Atlantis very much and intend to visit your Lords of the Underworld as soon as I can acquire the means to get there. Thank you, for the joy & the anticipation you've brought me, and left with me!
* I have read nothing of the Atlantis series, this was added in a bundle and I read it.
Nola, a cursed Amazonian Warrior, is unable to be seen, heared or touched by anyone and she is confined to her old Amazonian camp. When vampire Zane, an old vamp with a tragic past, is a prize in the mating ritual, Nola realizes she wants to do anything in her power to stop this from happening.
Short, easy readable novella. Since I did not read anything of the Atlantis series, I felt like this book was 25 percent story, 75 percent fan-service sex and sex related talk. There was almost no build-up to the sex and the bits in between were very lackluster. Also, this book should have had a very big trigger warning towards sexual harassment, because even though the victim is a man that doesn't mean it suddenly is okay. Currently not interested to read the rest of the series, this was a bit of a dud.
While I'm not saying that I disliked this story and how it wrapped up the overall arc, I do think that both Zane and Nola would have benefited from a longer book. Nola's past alone deserved more screen time than it was given. Not to mention that I wanted to see the progression of Zane's healing.
Heck, I just liked those two bloodthirsty warriors and wanted to see them work their way out of the chains the past held them in.
I loved seeing how Layel and Delilah have been doing in the months since the end of book 4. Like I said, I just wish we could have had a bit more of Zane and Nola.
Still, I liked it and I liked the way the series ended.
Too short for my liking, but still insanely good. This for sure is a classic Gena Showalter, with the steam and all that jazz. It would have been better if this was a full on novel rather than a novella.
Excellent Read - this short story is definitely a very sweet romance and it is also in the Into the Dark trilogy. Putting abused past lives aside, vampires and Amazon Warriors can find some happiness and work together. Perfect story and I just wanted to know more in the end.
I would've liked this novella better if it had more plot and romance development, but knowing how short it was, I didn't really expect much.
I liked Nola in The Vampire's Bride. She was aloof, cold, protective, and fierce. I like that she didn't melt around Zane- she loved and protected him, but she wasn't ridiculous like many of the other females in the series. I would've enjoyed a longer story on her.
Zane's story about him willingly becoming Marina's slave to free Cassandra was touching and not what I expected. I still would've liked more explanation as to why he fixated on Nola and wasn't more cautious based on his experience with Cassandra.
Overall, I liked the idea of Nola having to learn to trust to become visible again. It was an interesting concept.

The Amazon's Curse is a short novella in Gena Showalter's Atlantis series which follows the fourth book, The Vampire's Bride. In this novella, we see how Nola and Zane are doing after the curses delivered to them after the cruel games of the gods in The Vampire's Bride. Nola, an Amazonian warrioress, is cursed with invisibility; no one can see, hear, or touch her. Zane, a vampire, was made a slave in the Amazons' camp. We come into the story when during the Amazonian mating season, during which they fight for rights to males they have kidnapped. Zane is won by one of the warrioresses and Nola does everything she can to try and free Zane. He thinks that he is hallucinating when he sees Nola, but they soon realize that the qualities that were taken from her by the gods return when she admits things about Zane. When the warrioress with rights to Zane returns and finds Nola there with him, she leaves to get more of the Amazons, giving Nola and Zane only minutes to get him free. Somehow they manage and he disappears into the forest with the promise of returning for his woman. Nola is beaten for not only setting a slave free but for setting free the slave of her sister. When Zane and other vampires return to the camp to rescue her, Zane finds her in her tent. He heals her with his blood, they make passionate love more than once, he drinks her blood, and then they agree to live in the vampire palace. By admitting that she loves Zane, Nola is able to cross the invisible barrier that had been keeping her trapped in the Amazonian camp and they live happily ever after.
I loved this story. Zane and Nola are too cute together, and I loved them in The Vampire's Bride so I was looking forward to reading their story. I hate that they weren't able to get a full-length novel, though. I wish that there could have been more to their story because I was very upset when it ended, and it left me wanting to know more about them. Despite that, though, I thought that this novella was fantastic. I loved the little cameos by Layel, the vampire king, and Delilah, his Amazonian wife. If in the future there are more books added to the Atlantis series, I hope to see more or Zane and Nola.

I can't believe I'm giving this book 3 stars. Normally I would give this book a 1 star rating. It has a ton of elements that I loathe: - way, way to short. It's only about 50 pages long - the story starts in the middle. The main characters have already met, had some sort of relationship that is never fully explained, and have fallen in love with each other but neither is aware of each other's love. -both characters have special powers that they are unable to use throughout the story. Why tell us that they have them if they can't use them? -the environment makes no sense. I can't tell how close the vampires live to the amazons. Somehow they can escape from one place to another in about a day but will that keep them safe from future attacks? Do they reside in the future or in the past? Do computers exist or dinosaurs?
There are so many more issues but I will not waste time on them. Yet somehow, I was compelled to finish reading this novella. I liked how the two characters were drawn to each other despite their pasts and current imprisonments. I think the premise of the book was strong. If it had been lengthened there would be potential for a really good story.
Ah, what a great ending to a great series. Short but very sweet and romantic.
Zane; a Vampire warrior, and Nola; an Amazon warrior met in the last book The Vampires Bride. They both have troubled pasts resulting in them having issues with touching and being touched by others. The attraction was mutual, but circumstances in the last book caused Nola to act in fear and reject poor Zane. However, not before they had a naughty little rendevous involving Zane invading Nola's dreams...anyway, I could not wait to read their story!
It was very touching and I loved how they overcame their curses and damaged pasts together. Ok...so there isn't much to this story...but it has still left a satisfied smile on my face - it was just beautiful. Also, there's a lovely little morsel about Layel and Delilah that made me go 'ahhhh...'. Loved it!
I'm sad to see the end of this series because I really have enjoyed it.
I read this short story in the Into the Dark anthology and really enjoyed it, especially considering that I hadn't read any of the other Atlantis books. It's a very sweet romance of two people from warring tribes, one vampire and the other Amazon, who have been abused in the past finding trust and love in each other. It definitely piqued my interest in reading more of the Atlantis series.
Ho-hum. Sweet like cotton candy but corny. Nothing memorable 'bout it.
E-Harlequin synopsis :
Zane, a fierce vampire warrior, has been enslaved by the Amazons. Nola, a lovely Amazon soldier, has been cursed with invisibility. Now, these two stubborn enemies must overcome the pasts that haunt them and embrace a love that can set them free...
This was actually quite lovely compared to other stories as short as this one written by Gena Showalter.
When the hero asked the heroine if she had ever experienced such a thing and she said no and if he had.. I liked that part. It was a little weird, but his "a long, long time ago" blahblah. I have no idea, they were cute.
I suppose they were introduced or at least mentioned in the 4th novel - the one I haven't read yet. So, I'll make sure to do so asap. : )
Basically this is just a continuation of The Vampire's Bride and you really need to have read it to understand what's going on in this short story. Around 37 pages (on my Nook) and I'm glad I picked this up as a freebie. Definitely would not be worth paying for. 2 stars/C-
I think these books have to be read in order, which the blurb doesn't say. But the book clearly was a continuation of events from the previous book, even though each book focused on a different couple.
This was just a short story and thus had little depth. Because I didn't get to read about Zane and Nola's meeting, which I assume occurred in the previous book, I was a bit lost. We're thrown into the thick of things and I was wondering what they both had done to bring down a curse from the gods.
Both have traumatic pasts, but because the story is so short and moves so fast, these were glossed over. There's no explanation why both of them cannot abide anyone's touch but they're the exception for each other: they enjoy each other's touch. It's just... magic and fate.
Boring. I didn't read the previous story and so probably missed out on part of the plot. Still it was a kind of lack luster, paint-by-numbers kind of story. Nola is an Amazon warrior who has been cursed invisible to everyone by her Goddess?? Zane is the vampire that loves her and is captured by her Amazonian sisters. They fight to be the one to 'own' him and breed him. But the winner is unable to get an erection out of him. Well duh! So anyways, shenanigans ensue as Zane and Nola plan to escape. It was OK.
I liked this short novella, even though I wish there was more. Maybe 50 more pages to provide more of a "past" on both Nola and Zane. I would have liked more of an explanation as to why he was fixated on Nola. Also I'm left questioning why all of the sudden everyone was able to see, hear, and touch Nola since she was cursed with "Invisibility". This is a part of the Atlantis series #4.5, maybe I will get more clarification by reading the other novels.
Super short story about vampire Zane and Amazonian Nola. I did not know about these characters beforehand and this was a continuation of a previous story about them. I love books by Gena Showalter so I'm intrigued to learn how Nola became invisible and what 'game from the gods' people played and lost too.
This was way to short! Since I haven't read the series this story goes to I was behind on this couple. I don't like reading stories out of order so this was a frustrating read for me. I didn't get to connect with the characters, and I felt this short stories could have been an ending to a main novel.
Meh probably one of my least favorite GS books. For characters i had enjoyed in the book before, i feel like they got cheated their story. Was way too short and rushed. Bummer.
