Beautiful treasury!! I'm so grateful that I found this book at a used book store. I never even knew The Anne of Green Gables Treasury existed. It's absolutely wonderful!

WHAT I LOVED:
💚 Lovely writing style and very easy-to-read
💚 Gorgeous full color (and mostly full page) illustrations
💚 Captivating content (tea time recipes, gardening/flowers, LMM life and Anne of Green Gables books, fashion of the time, craft projects, etc)
💚 Inspiring and with the most peaceful tone
💚 Arrangement of chapters (easy to flip through or pick up and read off and on)

Reading this book is like a balm to the soul (especially if you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed or unhappy). I looked forward to reading it every single night before bed...and I tried to give myself only one chapter a night so that I wouldn't finish it too quickly.

I highly, highly recommend The Anne of Green Gables Treasury (even if you've never read of any the series). If you have any interest in Prince Edward Island, flowers, clothing, crafts, recipes and books, then I think you would love this book.

A shining jewel to add to my L.M. Montgomery book collection!

My love for Anne knows few bounds. I'd have gone wild for this book as a child. Good thing I still love these books as an adult, because I enjoyed it just as much!

Collins and Eriksson team up again to bring the world of Anne to life. What really sent this book over the top for me was their attention to all eight books in the series, not just the first novel. They include a Shirley/Blythe family tree, and a timeline of Anne's life with her happenings charted alongside global events and Montgomery's life.

Chapters cover life at Green Gables, fashion, gardening, and more. You can tell that Anne's world lights a special fire in this writing/illustrating team, because they are at their best here. The maps of Prince Edward Island and Green Gables are worth studying. The floor plan of Green Gables is absolutely charming (the floor plans were my favorite parts in The World of Little House) and I only wish they had them for more of Anne's homes, including Patty's Place, the House of Dreams, and Ingleside, but only Green Gables was based on an extant building.

My usual complaint about anything Anne-related is the transposition of her story onto the Edwardian era, because that's when the TV movies are set, though the first book takes place in the 1870s. Here, Collins and Eriksson consciously place Anne in her correct time period. Finally, I can feast my eyes on the brown gloria dress that Mrs. Lynde made for Anne, not the lacy blue off-the-rack abomination from the (otherwise lovely) film.

The activities listed here are more varied in type. An abundance of teatime recipes fit to sate Mrs. Morgan are accompanied by sewing activities, making a flower-bedecked hat, and even more pressed flower crafts than Inside the Secret Garden. I loved the humor of the "Helpful Household Hints," none of which are helpful, all of which are funny.

Recommended to all Anne fans, for both the lovely illustrations and the detailed content.

This was a fun book giving background into the time that Anne of Green Gables lived and customs at the time. I loved learning the history of buttons! I'd definitely recommend this book to any Anne fan.

First sentence: Although both of us read and loved the Anne books as children, we became intrigued with them again when our daughters began to read them several years ago. We found ourselves enjoying these "children's books" even more as adults than we had as children!

Premise/plot: In Anne of Green Gables Treasury, the authors share their research with fans of all ages. Their research started with making lists of what their daughters wanted to know more about as they read through the series. The authors also added questions of their own. (I'm sure as they did research, they found out things they weren't particularly searching for but found fascinating enough to include. That's just how research is!)

The book is divided into sections:

L.M. Montgomery and the Anne books. Provides a brief biography of the author, L.M. Montgomery, a map of Prince Edward Island, brief summaries of each book in the series along with a picture of each original cover, a map of Avonlea, and Anne's family tree.

Anne's World. Provides descriptions of Green Gables then and now, a map of Green Gables and Anne's favorite places, and house plans for Green Gables.

Through the Years. Provides readers with context for Anne's world by including an extensive timeline. The timeline starts in 1866 with Anne Shirley's birth, and, concludes in 1919 with the ending of Rilla of Ingleside. Some facts are from the Anne books, and others are from the real world.

School Days, Special Days. Provides readers with information about what nineteenth century life was like in and out of the classroom. (This section includes summer and Christmas.)

Tea Time. Provides readers with ideas for hosting their own tea parties. Includes information about brewing tea, and recipes to prepare for all four courses.

Busy Hands. Provides readers with Anne-themed craft projects. For example, how to press flowers, how to sew a baby bonnet, how to make their own potpourri, how to crochet lace, etc.

In Fine Fashion. Provides readers with descriptions of fashions of the day.

In the Garden. It's no surprise to fans that Anne loved the great outdoors and loved flowers. This section is all about flowers and garden projects.

In Conclusion. The authors encourage readers to think of themselves as Anne's kindred spirits.

My thoughts: I really enjoyed some chapters of this one. I do love the Anne books, and, I can see how this one would have been really POPULAR when it came out in 1991. It's still a good read for fans, but, I'm not sure how practical it is as a cook book or craft book.

My friend Kate gave this book to me for Christmas along with an Anne of Green Gables collector's doll. It provides background for what would have been the daily delights and chores of Anne's era, specifically on the north shore of Prince Edward Island. It took me back to the day I stood at Montgomery's graveside in Cavendish, and the walk along the path from Green Gables to the homesite where she lived with her grandparents.

The book is divided into chapters chronicling the life of the author of the Anne books, Lucy Maud Montgomery, the island itself, significant historical events during the early life of the character Anne, what school would have been like, food preparation, homemaking skills, a brief history of fashion that led to puffed sleeves, and flowers mentioned in the books, their meanings. and planting your own tabletop planters or garden plots.

Fun for aficionados of L. M. Montgomery's beloved characters of Anne, Gilbert, Diana, Marilla, and Matthew. For those folks I also recommend Before Green Gables by Canadian author Budge Wilson.

When my parents realized how much I read and reread the Anne of Green Gables series, they bought this Treasury for me around the age of 12. It was the very first "cookbook" I ever received (a large section of this book contains recipes Anne would have cooked for different occassions...I must have cooked Gingerbread Cake 40 times. My parents loved eating it that often I'm sure). I remember learning so much about the meaning of flowers, how to set up for the perfect tea party, and how to prepare the perfect cucumber watercress sandwiches. This is a wonderful book for a young girl wrapped up in the life of Anne Shirley.

Everything you want to know about being Anne is here, as well as the original story with illustrations. The drawings are done with Anne's head always facing away, as to let the reader project their image onto Anne, say the authors. Step into Anne's world, with instruction on throwing tea parties to crocheting lace to making aprons. I hate to admit that I never finished the original story, but loved the mini-series and this treasury. I did want to make scones from the recipe here, but instead settled on cucumber sandwiches and studying the meanings of flower names. Always a compromise... :)

Edit: I finally read the actual story. Loved it.

This is the perfect companion for a grown-up or high school reader of Anne. A younger reader would need help doing most of the projects in the book. I like that the recipes and sewing projects have findable ingredients and are at a level that's not too intimidating for beginners, yet feel authentic to the time and setting. I loved the timeline of what was going on in world history at the time of significant events in the lives of Anne and her children. Altogether, a lovely, sympathetic and informative companion volume.

Mom - never read this book as a child, but enjoyed it thoroughly while reading with my daughter. Anne is a charming young girl full of life and vitality who grows into a selfless and strong young woman. A great book for young girls to read.

Faith - I tremendously loved this book. This was one of my most favorite chapter books I ever read. She was a deep thinker. She was truly a rare talent.

This is a beautiful little book, full of insight into Anne's time period. The authors did a wonderful job of fleshing out Anne's life, providing additional information about what she probably ate, studied, wore, and grew in her garden. I loved the Anne books as a child and this would have been a wonderful companion to the series.

Just the most beautiful set of books about girlhood and growing up in the small Town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, Canada, in the early 20th century. A pure delight!!! Adults and teenagers alike will love it. It is full of wisdom and humanity, funny, with tremendous emotional depth without being mawkishly sentimental. If this does not touch your heart maybe you're dead!

This book is so fun (whether you are a fan of Anne of Green Gables or not). It has a timeline of events that happened during the dates covering Anne's lifetime and it has fun recipes from the time. It has a scrumptious recipe for Caramel Pie that I highly recommend!

I really liked this book. It shows how Anne would've spent her days, pictures and drawing of places in the books, craft projects, and recipes for an Anne style tea party.

A sweet, charming, and informational book on L. M. Montgomery's Anne books - and I read all of them back in the 1950s after purchasing them at Armanko's Stationery Store in Reno NV at the cost of about $2.25 for the hardback of each one. I've been in love with the Anne books since Anne of Green Gables and saved every one of them to pass on to my daughters if I had any. I did end up with 2 daughters but, somewhere along the line, my books did not survive. I am assuming that my very responsible and sharing mother "loaned" them to the little girls who lived next door to her and somehow never got them back. I know they were up in her attic for a long time but Mom's generosity got the best of the books!

People who love Anne and L. M. Montgomery (who wanted to be called Maud instead of Lucy which I really can't understand because Maud is not my idea of a wonderful name) will love this book which not only contains lots of information about Maud but also includes recipes of the day, along with directions for craft projects, lessons in gardening, layouts of the Prince Edward Island landscape and many other interesting facts. The book really makes one want to take a trip to PEI to see where Anne lived and visit the homes where both Maud and Anne lived.

It's a quick read and a very enjoyable one.
