The copy I read was from the library and was published in 2001, so views on homosexuality were a bit outdated. I wish that those who published a British study last week on how "men are more interested in sex than women" would read this book. This book might explain some reasons as to "why" that might be the case. I think the old-fashioned double-standards for the genders still exist in regards to the subject. This book is written for a female audience.

Well written and inclusive, Lonnie does describe the "scenarios" for intimacy, helping the reader identify the scenarios they are enacting, then gently helping the reader explore the limitations of a particular scenario, or the possibilities for opening up to deeper more fulfilling levels of sexual intimacy and sharing.

If I remember correctly, this book has a heterosexual focus. It's all about how to have a more intimate sexual relationship. You could probably figure that out from the title.

First published in 1982, this is a true classic by a brilliant therapist. Despite the unpreventable datedness of some of the language, especially around issues of gender, the concepts Barbach explores are still amazingly insightful and relevant today. In fact, many of the ideas she presents in this book are being offered up today by leaders in the field of sexuality as though they are brand new ideas.
