These ghosts aren't your run of the mill, harmless, light-flickering, chair-moving kind. Nope, they're here because they're stuck earthbound, and guess what? It''s my job to unstick them and cross them over to the other side. As if I know how to do that.
I'm totally out of my comfort zone.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad my mother's still here, but I know she's got unfinished business too. She's as much as said so. Sure, I'd love her to stick around forever, but that's not fair to her. But that unfinished business? She can't cross over until I help her with it.
Only she won't tell me what's going on. So, here I am, ghost whispering my way through the start of menopause while trying to solve the puzzle of my mom's unfinished business. If that's even possible.

" I'd like to have an IV of caffeine inserted into my wrist it it were socially acceptable. Actually, forget socially acceptable. I'd do it even if it weren't. Coffee for me was like sex to a twenty-year-old man- never too much and never too often."
Sold me with that quote at 4% into the book. I really liked these characters, they were not the normal young desperate or young and powerful they were the average middle class struggling family with teenage drama, marriage issues, elderly parents and life. Angela, is a wife who loves her husband, who has a teenage daughter with issues, and young son, a best friend, a sick father and the ghost of her dead mother to deal with. The story dealt with so many real life issues it was almost therapeutic. Her mother had just passed and just moments after she saw her as a ghost. The way the author dealt with the traumas of life made them almost doable. Who wouldn't want more time with a loved one ? There is also has a very close friend, one that shares a friendship that is wonderful. Her husband is the love of her life and their relationship is solid. I don't normally get to read books where the family is okay, strong even. I was always looking for the cheat, the lie, the backstabbing, but it wasn't there.
Angela has lost her mother, but not all the way. Her ghost is there and shows herself to a couple others. Angela finds out that this might not be her first encounter after some secrets are revealed. Her mother and her work together to safe guard her daughter when some very serious dangers are revealed. The whole family works together, believes in each other.
All this sounds very drama filled doesn't it ? It isn't, there is humor spread all over the book and it is hilarious. I spit my coffee when Saquash did his swings run down he street. You have to read it. :D
I enjoyed it and jumped into book 2 right away.

I couldn't finish this book.
It's not that it was bad, per se, it just wasn't interesting. It was taking forever for anything to happen.
I got to 51% and asked myself if I was enjoying it. The answer was no. Then I asked myself why I was continuing to read it. So I stopped.
Judging by other reviews, I'm not in the majority here. But there are so many books that I enjoy out there, I decided to not waste any more time on one that was increasingly a chore to read.

While dealing with real life issues is always difficult, this story puts a humorous paranormal spin on the chaos most people hope to avoid in their life. Turning the sadness of a mother's death into a comedy is challenging, but this book succeeded. Most of us wish, when a parent dies, that we could have had more time with them. This book certainly has a “be careful what you wish for” aspect, all while tackling deep life issues, and fighting those sneaky carbs.
Filling this story, are several colorful and crazy characters. Angela's honest and realistic sense of humor is probably pretty accurate for most women, making her a good icon for the modern wife and mom. I loved the fact that she and Jake had a good marriage, and there wasn't any kind of unfaithful husband drama- it's nice to read a chick-lit story where there's a happy marriage. Angela's mom, the back-from-the-light spirit with a crazy sense of humor, is by far, the funniest and most entertaining character. Mel's one liners are killer, and most people would kill for a friend like her. The kids all seemed pretty typical, which is sad, but the honesty behind their personalities was refreshing. What I loved most about this story, is how it successfully showed the personal growth of each of the characters, and in the end, leaves you with a sense of connection and growth as well.
I don't read chick-lit very often, and really it was the paranormal aspect of this story that peaked my interest. I personally couldn't relate to several of the running jokes in the story, and that did have me feeling somewhat alienated and uncomfortable. The jokes weren't at all uncommon or in bad taste, they're just not things I joke about or read about very often. Most women make those kinds of jokes with their friends though, so I think this book would be very relatable for most women.
The overall writing was good. The author kept the story flowing well, and seamlessly mixed humor with serious topics. While there were several minor editing mistakes in the edition I read, they didn't pull me out of the story too much, and I've been informed by the author that they've since been corrected. I think I'd be happy to read just about anything from Mrs. Aspenson, and look forward to more of her books in the future.
Overall, I liked this book, and I think it's is a solid 4 star comedy. This is certainly a story I'd like to continue with, and I'm looking forward to the sequel. I'd recommend this book to any chick-lit fan, or anyone who enjoys a good seeing-dead-people-because-I'm-a-spirit-medium story.

GREAT BOOK!!!
A friend of mine suggested that I pick up a copy of this book. She said it was a great read filled with a mixture of wonderful emotions. She was absolutely right. I found myself drawn to the plot like moth to light. I was unable to find a spot that would allow me to put the book down and pick it up later. I kept reading while my emotions churned wildly from laughter to crying to utter pleasure.
The horrid emotion of losing someone you love more than life brought unstoppable tears to my eyes. My thoughts turn to my mother who I lost a few years ago under horrible circumstances. I felt Angela Panther’s emotions and I was thankful that someone brought this book to my attention.
Carolyn Aspenson has done a terrific job in delivering exactly what the reader is expecting to see in a good book. On one hand, she is reminding all of us that life is precious and death should make us appreciate the time that we have left on this earth, and on the other hand how to cope with the loss of a loved one.
What I loved about the story was the fact that after going through the sad emotion and the good cry, you find yourself chuckling with some of the conversations. The characters are great the conversations wonderful and the sentiment beyond expectation. It was a page turner and I would have loved to see more pages at the end of the book. It is fabulous! It is enjoyable! It is all you will be asking for in a book.

A hilarious book that ties in many elements with charm and wit while also being heartfelt. Although dealing with death and seeing ghosts are no laughing matter, the author wraps up a serious and emotional story with entertaining characters and an over all great story.

Good but sad in parts
This book has many characters but it all revolves around Angela and her ability to see dead people. Throughout her journey she deals with a lot of emotions with the death of her Mother, her daughters best friend dying, and unfortunately the end with her father.

I loved the way the author told this story. The underlying subject matter was serious, but her funny, snarky tone lightened the mood to make it a very enjoyable read. The author has a great sense of humor, even about death, but when the story called for it, she was reverent and empathetic in the way her characters handled each other.
I really identified with the main character—she’s just a mom, trying to do the things she needs to do to keep the family on track. She’s not an overbearing supermom by any means, but she will do anything to keep her kids safe, even siccing her ghost-mom on her daughter’s frenemies.
I highly recommend this book if you like chick-lit, especially if you want a book with more substance than most. I would love to read more by this author.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as I opened up this novel. What I discovered was a delightful, funny, insightful and oddly realistic family’s journey into the absolutely unknown.
Angela’s mother has passed away. And Angela thinks she is going insane. Why? Because her deceased mother is standing there, talking to her as if this is a normal occurrence! The average person does not go to sleep one night and wake up a ghost whisperer the next morning. But, it seems that is exactly what Angela is facing.
Not only her mother, Fran, is appearing to Angela – but there are more ghost, everywhere. It seems there is a lot of unfinished business in the afterlife, and these ghosts see Angela as a way to help them bring closure to their families and themselves.
Unfinished Business was such an enjoyable reading experience. It’s not an easy subject, the death of a loved one, even when one gets more time with them in ghostly form. This average, normal (as normal as any family can be) family is written with all of it’s drama, quirkiness, loves, fights, sadness and happiness. Really Angela’s family is not that unusual- it’s just that some members and the family dog can see ghosts. Fran was right there along side of Angela giving her suggestions, pushing her to do what only she can do for these sad souls who need her unique help.
This novel is full of interesting people, both alive and in ghost form. Fast paced, full of laughter and some tears. I recommend this one for anyone at all. It is a great story, told in an entertaining way that will hit you with feelings galore. Pick this one up and sit back and enjoy.

I love the concept; however, if you've seen one episode of Ghost Whisperer, you understand the concept, and reading it isn't as entertaining.

Thinking that she is dreaming at best and hallucinating at worse, Fran's celestial reappearance awakens a psychic gift of sight in Angela where she can see dead people, making her a reluctant medium who becomes a ghost whisperer helping the dead with their own unfinished business.
In her debut novel, author Carolyn Ridder Asperson weaves a wickedly humorous and touching paranormal chick lit tale about the unending love that survives death between the living and their departed loved ones. Written in the first person narrative and set in Atlanta, Angela Panther takes the reader on a wild and emotional roller coaster ride as she tells them about her ghost whisperer adventures and life lesson experiences that is spurred on by the reappearance of her mother. I absolutely loved Fran, she was my favorite character, this Italian mama kept me in stitches with all her crazy antics. I also loved the best friend relationship between Angela and Mel, everyone needs to have a BFF like Mel, her one-liners were hysterical. I would be remiss if I didn't touch upon the poignancy of the loss of a loved one and the need for closure of unfinished business, it took me back to the bittersweet loss of my own mom in 2007. I believe that the author wrote from her heart, she has a way of keeping the story light and entertaining, while also providing a therapeutic touch that simply warms the heart and makes the reader smile.
The author easily draws the reader into this entertaining story with a mixture of sassy humor, joy, sorrow, and true-to-life experiences that pulls at the heartstrings and keeps them turning the pages. With a witty cast of characters who are larger than life; a balanced mixture of laugh-out-loud moments, serious dialogue and fun interactions; and a touching storyline that anyone who has ever lost a loved one can relate to; Unfinished Business is a thoroughly enjoyable tale that leaves the reader wanting more.
Unfinished Business is the first book in the Angela Panther Novel Series. Unbreakable Bonds, the second book in the series is scheduled to be released in November 2013.

On the day of Angela Panther’s mother’s death, instead of only grieving, as normal folks might, she is learning to deal with her mother’s ghost.
Her mother tells her that she has unfinished business and came back to help Angela. As freaked out as Angela is to see her mother’s ghost, at least Angela’s not alone in dealing with the “sight;” both her beloved dog, Gracie, and her young son, Josh, can also see Fran, Angela’s mother. What this means for the future is hard to determine.
As Angela is learning to adapt to seeing one ghost, her ability expands, and she soon finds herself seeing ghosts wherever she goes, often making for humorous encounters. However, with her expanded ability comes responsibility to those she can now see. Fran, her Italian mother of d master of both wit and mom-induced guilt, is determined to both help her and perhaps coerce her, when necessary, to do her duty to those who haven’t moved on.
Carolyn Riddern Aspenson writes with a great deal of humor. This novel is clearly the first in a serial that is sure to be engrossing, emotionally intricate, and hilarious. As with many first novels of a series, much time has to be spent explaining and setting up the background for future books, so the beginning is a trifle slow, though the pace does pick up significantly as one continues to read. In the future, the author will be able to summarize this background in a page or so, getting straight to the action.
While there wasn’t as much action as emotion in Unfinished Business, it was emotion of an engrossing nature, and included the gamut. Of course, we all should remember that laughter is good for the soul. And there was definitely laughter to spare. Carolyn Ridder Aspenson is an author to watch.

To misquote a famous movie: Angela sees dead people. Angela’s mother returns as a ghost and reawakens a latent psychic gift in her daughter. This talent turns Angela’s life upside down. How will she cope with her shimmering, transparent mother floating in and out of her life? What should she do about these other ghosts who keep pestering her to help them with their unfinished business? How is she going to explain all this to her husband, when she doesn’t fully understand it herself?
Angela is a lovely character. I could relate to her right from the start. She’s facing life’s ups and downs as we all do, and suddenly she’s presented with this extraordinary ability. Her mixed reactions to her new-found talent feel very real. Despite being a ghost, her mother comes over as thoroughly down to earth, which is wonderfully ironic and very funny. The mother-daughter relationship rings true, and it’s clear from their delightful and sometimes absurd conversations how much they both love and irritate each other. It’s also through some great dialogue that we really get to know Angela and her best friend Mel. Their warm friendship is fuelled by coffee, cupcakes, and lots of good-natured gossip.
I particularly like those moments in the book when Angela sees a ghost and there’s a feeling of anticipation: What message does the ghost want her to pass on? How will the loved one react to her? Each one of these scenes is shot through with comedy and sadness. In less skilled hands these scenes could have faltered, but this author gets the balance just right for the comedy to shine and the sadness to move you. The bit where she has a message for a teenage girl whose father died made me feel very weepy, but the overall tone of the book is splendidly upbeat.

What a great paranormal book it really brought out the humor in a mostly serious topic of seeing ghosts. The characters were well developed and you can relate to them and what they are going through. It’s entertaining and interesting the characters are fun and all the issues that are happening keeps you captivating. The different issues that Angela helps with are touching and they leave you teary eyed.
I believe that Angela was a grown up with a teenagers mentality or alter ego that most of have. It was great reading her explanations to different things and how she rationalizes things. Angela’s relationship with her mother was great the bickering back in forth made it more relatable. They both seem like fun people to be around and talk too. OMG! The topics that Angel and Mel talk about were hilarious. It had me laughing out loud throughout the story those two are too much. I believe all the interaction between the characters kept the book light especially when the though emotional parts come out.

As soon as I read the blurb for this book, I knew it had to be my next read. Carolyn combines the perfect amount of grief, hilarity, romance, and paranormal to make this quite an interesting read.
Angela, a seemingly normal housewife who can banter with the best of them, wakes up one morning to find out she can see dead people. More specifically she can see her recently deceased mother. So what's a girl to do? Grab a cupcake and her best friend and set out to find a way to stop seeing her dead mother's ghost. Only Angela gets more than she bargained for when she realizes that not only can see her mother Fran, she can see the ghosts of others and the ghosts are starting to realize that she's a regular ol' ghost whisperer.
Meanwhile her teenage daughter is struggling with personal problems, her son seems to be seeing the ghost of his grandma as well, and her dad is having health problems himself. With one thing happening after another seeing ghosts is the least of Angela's worries.
Although Unfinished Business is a lot about Angela and her ability to now see ghosts, it does touch on some very serious topics such as drugs and peer pressure.
All of Carolyn's characters are easy to relate to and the emotions are very real. The friendship between Angela and her bff, Mel is the kind any woman would want and the banter makes you laugh out loud. This book caught me by surprise, and I am so glad to have read this story. As the book opens, Angela’s beloved mother is dying. When she passes, Angela is devastated by the loss. Shortly afterward though her mom’s ghost returns offering advice and often butting in at times that make for some awkward (and hilarious moments). Angela is conflicted; she craves the additional time with her mother, but she is also afraid she is going crazy. It is bad enough that she can see and talk to her dead mother, but now she is able to see other strange ghosts, as well, and that really freaks her out. What ensues is a story rich in humor, which also tackles some tough subjects along the way.
I loved the fast pace and easy-to-read narrative style. Every supporting character, especially Fran, Angela’s mother, added significantly to the events taking place around Angela. The story focuses on events Angela experiences, from her perspective. Early-on Angela confides in her best friend; the support and strength she receives from her is heart-warming. Well-written, descriptive sentences flow smoothly page after page on such an upbeat, joyous journey of discovery that I was truly sorry when the book ended. Thankfully, there will be more adventures as Angela comes to grips with her new abilities.

I'll admit I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book. The beginning drew me in, but the next couple of chapters were a little bit slow for me. However, once I got further into the story, I really enjoyed it. After the passing of her mother, Angela begins receiving visits from her and soon discovers that she has the "gift" of seeing and speaking with dead people. Angela's mother, Fran, was so entertaining, making me laugh out loud several times throughout the book.
Surprisingly, I also found myself teary-eyed a few times. I don't know whether or not I believe people can communicate with those who have passed on, but there were several extremely touching moments with Angela relaying messages from the dead to their loved ones. I didn't expect them to choke me up as much as they did.
What I liked most about this book was that the author managed to balance the moments of sadness with lots of off-the-wall, humorous side notes and conversations, keeping the story from being too heavy, and yet she still handled the moments of loss and tragedy with sensitivity.

I would give Unfinished Business, An Angela Panther Novel a 5 star rating. I picked the book up, not reading the blurb, sometimes it’s fun that way. I started to read, and although saddened by the MC’s mother’s death, ended up smiling, and laughing at the turn of events. When her mother came back as a ghost, revealing the gift Angela had. Angela’s mother Fran, who is a fun character and I grew to love her the moment she returned in the story. I enjoyed the interaction between them, the family life, and sometimes serious, other times comical. I wanted to read more, and this kept me turning the pages.
Those out there who loved Ghost Whisperer as much as I did, will love this book, and those that follow in the series I look forward to downloading and reading. A must read, in my opinion. I loved reading it, and was saddened when I reached the end. I will be looking out for the next book in the series, by this in my opinion talented author.

Angela Panther has a busy but predictable life. She's happily married and busily parenting. The appearance of her dead mother as a rather pushy ghost is unwanted - even more so when it seems her arrival has triggered in Angela a talent she wishes she did not have. Suddenly, she sees dead people. All over the place. And they want her help.

Carolyn Ridder Aspenson's greatest strength as an author lies in her firm grasp of relationships and her ability to convey them meaningfully. Her sense of humor and her skill with dialogue envelop the reader. Even with dead folks all over the place, one feels a sense of familiarity and comfort in Angela Panther's world.

I started Angela Panther with book 4, I had no idea there were more than just that one. I loved it! The friendship between Angela and Mel, their bickering, it's just how a friendship should be.
Angela has a gift that was dorment while she was growing up. When her mother dies, the gift is awoken and Angela has to deal with this. Which is hard. It changes her world upside down. But with the support of her husband, son and best friend she learns how to cope. I'm very curious about all the coffee recipes in there, so next time I'm at that particular shop I'm going to ask for one Angela and Mel like to drink ;)

What a great "ghost story" Angela is such a relateable character, I saw so much of myself in her and her reactions to things. This was a funny take on a woman who loses her mother, but gains her ghost, errr celestial being. And dealing with that and the fact that she see's more than just her mother, and day to day life as a wife and mother of 2 has her mind officially blown. She is learning to cope with her new "gift" and trouble with her teen that any parent would be scared out of their mind about. Emotional, funny and makes you want a cupcake! But the ending left me saying NOOOO, good thing I have book 2 ready to go!

'Unfinished Business' pulled me in from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. It was that good. The storyline was full of hilarious scenarios, even funnier dialog and had some sad moments that brought a couple tears to my eyes, but then the humor started again and I was fine. The characters were a hoot. Angela is hilarious. She has a pretty spot on outlook when it comes to her kids. I can definitely relate. Mel is the bestest friend ever. Fran is such a great character. She fits the embodiment of the typical Italian mother. I can't wait to read more of 'The Angela Panther Series'. I do believe I've found another favorite author. A great add to your tbr list.

I like the characters in this book and I did enjoy some of their interactions and witty banter. This book sets up the characters and paranormal world well for future books in the series. Overall I found the book a bit slow. There was not much happening beside normal day to day life for Angela and the discovery that see can see ghosts. There is no mystery to solve in this book. There are a number of emotional scenes that are interesting.

So Good!
I waited way too long to read Unfinished Business! It is as good as the blurb makes it sound! Whether or not a reader believes some people can communicate with spirits, the book conveys a strong sense of realism. Angela's pain at the loss of her mother is heartbreaking. The fun she has with heart best friend is delightful, and her joy in her successes is heartwarming.

I'm way past the age of these young women and their problems but remember very well the angst of that time of life. Angela and Mel are best friends who share pretty much everything with each other. Angela has an ability that restarted after the death of her mother. She sees ghosts. She doesn't remember having experienced this before, but her mother tells her the first time it manifested itself was when Angela was 3 years old.
Angela and Mel often meet at a local Starbucks to share their lives with each other. They spend time texting, as well. Eve is often cursed for having been the first one to eat the fruit and caused their lives to have the difficulties they have. They're feeling that men get away without having to suffer as much concern over life's difficulties as women do.
Angela's mother, Fran, is an Italian mama who calls on the Madonna often in Italian. She expresses her strongest emotions in Italian, as well. Fran is the one who restarts Angela's gift of speaking for the dead. It's a bit of a comfort for Angela in that she doesn't have to give her mother up. Death hasn't managed to separate them. Fran is aware of some dangers that Granddaughter Emily is being exposed to. This causes Angela to be even more grateful that Fran is there to watch over her daughter and report things to help Angela keep tabs on what's going on. Emily is a typical 15-year-old girl with the attitude that goes with it. It drives Angela crazy because she fears there may be secrets Emily is keeping that could ruin or end the rest of her life.
Her son Josh is also gifted with the "eyes to see." He's totally entertained with his grandma's activities as a ghost, or Celestial Being as Fran says is the more correct moniker for what she is. Josh seems to be an angel child. Guessing Angela needs some of that to offset Emily's behavior and attitude. Josh is still young. His teenage years will, perhaps, reveal another side of him.
Angela is dragged into the world of "The Ghost Whisperer." Josh mentions the show a few times and it appears that Angela is being cast in that role in her new life. The first problem she solves is for a deceased man, she sees at a soccer field, who wishes to let his daughter know that he did not break his promise to her when he was in a shady part of town when he died. He was there to help a friend break away from drugs, as he had done. She solves a family problem for her favorite Barista. That was a scary thing because this is a person she sees on a regular basis. The man at the soccer field and his daughter would not be people she's likely to see again.
She even sees a psychic in hopes of being released from the curse/gift. The psychic does help her, but not in the way she'd originally hoped.
There is sadness in the story. Somehow Carolyn Ridder Aspenson manages to lighten the mood with the relationship between Angela and Mel and the attitude of Mama Fran. The story is full of serious issues. They are not taken lightly but there is a sense of light at the end of the tunnel that life goes on beyond the difficulties, losses, and tragedies that hit us throughout our lives.

After the initial freak-out, Angie finds comfort in being able to still see and speak to her mother. However, when she discovers she can also see other spirits, Angela begins to view this gift as a curse. Suddenly, other ghosts want her to help them, mainly by passing on messages to the loved ones they left behind. Angela hates every second of it, even though both her husband, Jake, and her BFF, Mel, encourage her to use her new-found talent to bring comfort to others. Will she embrace the new chapter in her life, or will Angela turn her back on the spirits who need her help?
