A fire burning on the sea . . . icy fingers in the night . . . a dog that suddenly won't go near his master's bedroom . . . these are the baffling ingredients of the spine-chilling mystery that begins when Professor Zinck invites Tom Austen and his sister, Liz, to visit a haunted house. Join the teen sleuths in the hallways of Lunenburg Manor . . . if you dare.
This is my favourite so far by the author of long-running Canadian mysteries. As if certain I would love it, "The Ghost Of Lunenburg Manor" came up in my research about Nova Scotia last year. Noticing that Eric Wilson covered a whole slew of provinces, I gathered earlier releases in order. I've seen my share of Tom and favoured Liz Austen by the time I reached this novel that I bought first of all. Their dynamics are interesting together as brother and sister, with a smidgen of competition but mostly respect and collaboration. Although I despair any metaphysical title that does not bear fruit within, I delighted in this book from stem to stern.
Foremost, I've spent time in a few parts of Nova Scotia and although only once; it's a joyous part of Canada I continue to smile about today. There weren't many landmarks with which I was unfamiliar but several I knew of, that I haven't explored yet. And the atmosphere there can't help but be entrancing: the ocean, old villages, buried treasure, superstition.... Every page takes place in a noteworthy environment.
Coupled with a backdrop enthralling to me and mysterious quite naturally, this cast of characters peaks our intrigue at once. Liz and her brother are gifted this vacation at a bed & breakfast. Their hosts’ friends join them on an outing and spark the children's interest in their own home, Lunenburg Manor. The vibes there are beyond peculiar and then their new friends encounter trouble. The endearing wife falls ill and the man vanishes from a jaunt to Oak Island, reappearing at home unable to describe what transpired. The siblings inexplicably fear something more serious is amiss. Since the man refuses a police report, they feel they must be counted on to determine what's going on.
I am feeling… bored. The book bored me completely. I thought that's mystery was supposed to HAVE some mystery, however, the story was completely predictable. It was obvious what was going to happen next.
What did I even just read? This book was all over the place. It was only 109 pages but it took me over a month to finish because the plot was so jumbled. I thought this would be a fun kids series to get into but this book is going straight into my donation pile. The only cool thing about this book was that it was set in Nova Scotia and I enjoyed the setting details.
El libro me gusta porque tiene cosa de terror que a mí me gusta eso, el libro es muy bueno, le recomiendo leérselos a todos es de miedo y misterio. Me encantó ☺️😃
