As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from "the space between lives," which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss's family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career.
A graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School, Brian L. Weiss M.D. is Chairman Emeritus of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami.
Dr. Weiss maintains a private practice in Miami. In addition, Dr. Weiss conducts national and international seminars and experiential workshops as well as training programs for professionals.
This was my first past lives book and it captivated my attention. I think I flew through it in less than 2 hours. It was fascinating information and I found it very easy to relate to my own personal experiences at times. I highly recommend this one to anyone curious about past lives. Dr. Weiss presents some interesting data and studies that are sure to pique your attention.
I first learned of Dr. Brian L. Weiss when I came across his first book on past life regression therapy, entitled Many Lives, Many Masters: The True Story of a Prominent Psychiatrist, His Young Patient, and the Past Life Therapy That Changed Both Their Lives. In that book, Dr. Weiss recounted the first time a regression therapy hypnosis session transcended beyond this lifetime and into a young female patient's past incarnations. After glimpsing her past lives, she was miraculously healed of the mysterious recurrent ailments for which she was seeking therapy. This experience encouraged Dr. Weiss to continue using past life regression therapy to encourage this type of healing in other patients and has found it to be a highly successful therapy modality.
While Many Lives, Many Masters served as a sort of introduction to past life regression therapy and primarily focused on therapy sessions with this one female patient, Through Time Into Healing features case studies of patients of various different sociocultural and occupational background who have been successfully healed through Dr. Weiss' methods. It features many different types of problems that have been solved (or at least greatly improved) by past life regression, such as phobias, anxiety, chronic pain, eating disorders, relationship issues, etc. Dr. Weiss also includes the script he uses to help patients achieve this hypnotic state and gives a lot of detailed advice on how readers can achieve past life regression on their own. I found the case studies to be absolutely fascinating and plan to try out the meditation script he included in the back of the book.
These books will change the way you view death, life, and whatever occurs in between them and will inspire spiritual growth and curiosity about the universe's many mysteries. ☆☆☆☆
I gave this book a few tries, but I just cannot give any literal credence to the idea of past life regression, previous lives, reincarnation and all of that. It seems to me from the case studies I read flicking through it, that people are making up some past life story to give a sense of greater meaning and personal significance to their own psychological issues and traumas now. A way of fooling yourself by putting the problem into a wider perspective where you can then address it and attach a worthwhile meaning to. I don't doubt the practical value of this kind of procedure, but I am too aware myself on the literal level that this is simply not truthful. If you do this stuff and believe it true from your own introspective experience then great, but without having an introspective experience of that kind myself, of a past life regression, I just cannot give it any credence or sense of authenticity.
The book is about past life regression of various patients of Dr. Brian Weiss who has done many books on the same subject where his patients under deep hypnosis fall in to regression & can recollect various nuances of their past lives under trance & understand the root cause of present problems to get cured of the present ailments, learning the important lessons. I have an enormous curiosity learning about this therapies and thus loved this books too like his other books on the subject. I would give this one 03 stars ⭐⭐⭐👍
The book is an extension of “Many lives Many masters“ written by the same author. It deals mainly with regression therapy and explains its healing potential as well as limitations by reproducing the experiences of several patients from all walks of life who had undergone hypnosis or past life regression at some stage. According to author the concept of reincarnation or immortality of soul is deeply ingrained in almost every religion. In Christianity or Islam , these concepts were deleted for political reasons later on , whereas in Hinduism, Buddhism these concepts form the corner stone of belief system though it doesn’t matter what the patient’s beliefs are, in so far as regression therapy or it’s benefits are concerned. The author claims that a multitude of people got benefited by experiencing, visualising or recalling relevant events of past lives or early part of current life. The therapy is particularly beneficial to people suffering from unexplained pains, anxiety, fear, phobia, anger, low self esteem, obesity, substance abuse, mystical conduct or other psychic conditions. It has no side effects even for a normal person with seemingly minor problems or no problems at all. Every one gets better or healed or at least, experiences long lasting joy, relaxation and peace of mind, body and soul after the therapy. Author has cautioned that regression therapy should be availed only under the supervision of accredited therapists. Towards the end of the book a simple and handy regression/ relaxation technique is given that can be practiced at home. The book is quite relevant as well as provocative for us as we have lived and accepted many mystical folk tales, events or experiences in our lives. Read in October 2020.
This little book is accompanied by a CD containing a meditation by Brian Weiss that can lead the listener to regressions to previous lives. His voice is pleasant, soft and relaxing. I for one always successfully regress to a previous life via this CD, but it may take time for some to regress.
The book itself is simple and well-written. The author refers to his own therapeutic practice, and relates a few relevant stories about some of his clients.
A pleasant little book. If you want to go deeper into the matter (other than the regressions themselves of course), read some of his more ambitious works. I would recommend "Messages from the Masters".
Healing comes through experiencing the trauma again and working it through. Dr. Weiss, a well-known and respected psychiatrist, tells of many cases where people have been completely healed by doing so. These were hopeless cases, so it shows you that hypnotherapy can be effective in these cases. He writes in an interesting, compelling way the stories of these people who were healed.
3.5 stars It is tricky to rate this book overall because I have different ratings for the experience of reading this book and for the content of this book. I'll begin with the latter because oh my Ganpati, it is so fundamentally important.
First of all, this is a work of nonfiction - simply put, it is a series of real-life accounts of patients who have visited Dr. Brian Weiss, a psychotherapist. He documents the experiences of his patients and their therapeutic outcomes in the book.
The book begins by talking about the healing power of past life regression therapy - visiting our past lives (mentally) while being in a deeply relaxed (kind of hypnotic) state. And I was like okay okay okay okay, where are the appetizers? Direct main course? Visiting past lives? Who said there are past lives? What?
I can't call myself a nonbeliever in reincarnation and past lives; more like, I've never really given it much focused thought. But my first reaction to reading about the healing power of past lives was bordering on incredulity, and if it hadn't been for the credentials of the author - MD, Ph.D - I may have been more opaque to the idea. Now, after reading the book, I am excited by the prospect of undergoing regression therapy just for the adventure of it. I plan on making an audio recording using the regression tape transcript provided and use it on myself.
Much of the essence of the book lies in the mystical, in the spiritual, and in the immeasurable. The core message of the book is so rebellious relative to our "normal" worldview. A few questions have formed in my mind: 1) How or why do groups of souls keep reincarnating together? What is the common thread? 2) What about other living things, can i reincarnate as a chicken the next time?
LOL I was sleepy while writing this review, and this is where I slept off. Difficult to get back into the zone and aura of the book again. So I'll just conclude by saying that I recomend everyone to read this book, and if you do it, keep an open mind and be receptive. It is pretty mindblowing and curiosity-eliciting!
Me trae tantas esperanzas.
A mí me impresionó, me consoló, me significó mucho.
100000000%. Aunque no a personas aburridas y prejuiciosas.
When I had first discovered Brian Weiss, it had a profound effect on me. Many lives, many Masters continues to be one of my favorite books ever. This is my fourth book in that series, and maybe it's the years that have passed since or the age related cynicism but this book felt repetitive, case studies became boring - Someone came with a problem, they were regressed, it was found this problem originated from a past life and lo and behold they're healed! This book oversells past life regression and oversimplifies life and spirituality. I still have an open mind but ugh my soul needs better food for now.
Me siento satisfecha.
I read this book alright, and I understood what was written in the book. But, I was not sure what the author wanted to convey through it. Is it a nudge to take regression therapy? or is it self-promotion? The only thing I got was that author wanted to say that reincarnation exist and regression therapy helps to deal with phobias, anxiety, etc. But, how does it affect a normal person, who continues to go through the mundane tasks of life with a little bit of anxiety now and then? What about the midlife crisis that everyone goes through once in a while? :D
I use this meditation/regression tape in order to relax. I went and heard Brian Weiss at a conference and was surprised at how much I enjoyed his story. You do not need to have a transcendent experience while listening to the recording to reap the benefits of thoughtful insights and a relaxing experience. His theories on life and after-life are interesting to read about and make determinations about your own belief systems.
Very interesting. Thought provoking. A book that requires additional time to think through the subject matter thoroughly. The content is fascinating, and makes a lot of sense.
