Keeping up with Michael and Abi's journey, they get caught by the Dog tribes and we get a glimpse of a society which has integrated with their domesticated dogs to quite a huge extent, depending on them for hunting to even naming their rituals on the behaviourisms of their pets. A good, solid detour into something other than just the protagonist's tale.

while i enjoyed this, it seemed like a bit of a detour from the main story. like he had this idea for a culture and wanted to use it so bad that he had to shoe-horn it into the plot. the main characters, Michael and Abi, spend the whole book tied to a stake! they might as well have not been there. also, the flashback sequences, which run throughout, were not clearly delineated as flashbacks and i didn't even figure that out till about 3/4 of the way through. i like this series and will keep reading it, but this volume was a bit of a letdown.

A bit of a step up from the last collection, but the dog tribe story doesn't really add much. And the art is really starting to bother me. I don't get why so many authoritative voices in the comics industry have given such strong blurbs to this series.
