Presents guidelines for school library media programs in the twenty-first century, offering lists of actions for school library media specialists to perform in support of each guideline.
It never ceases to amaze me how librarians can write such boring books. The information was good and it is the basis of the Praxis test if you are going to take it, but it is a slog.
My Praxis study guide advised me to read this book to help me study for my exam. It was boring, minimally helpful, and unrealistic when considering the realities of school librarianship. I would not recommend it.
This is a good book for school librarians. It helps to focus my energy on what I need to do before I get too deep into the school year. I definitely want to do an environmental scan for the three middle schools- or should I just do one for the district? In any case, it's good info to have at my fingertips. Nextel would be writing out the goals and objectives, and then identifying ways to show evidence of meeting those objectives. I should keep a binder or document or something that shows what I do with the classes and/or teachers that come to me for help. This would be good quantitative info or busboy qualitative info?
This book is a great tool for focusing on the essential elements of school library media programs. Great way to remind you of what needs to be done, especially at the start of the school year. School library media specialist wear so many hats it's easy to let yourself focus too much on one element and not develop the others. I made a to-do list as I reviewed the information in the book.
I would recommend this resource for all school and youth librarians! I found it extremely useful in understanding the AASL 21st century learner guidelines and thinking of ways to promote advocacy, multicultural education, and learning.
