disappointing

Honestly I’ve had on and off feelings about this series but this book might cut it for me, and spoiler warning from here on out.

In short nothing happens 75% of the book is him repeatedly getting told you need to bond the orange one, you need to pick, and he saying he will eventually. By the time any action happens it’s clipped and we get thrown right back into oh you need to choose a bond. I just started skimming the chapters half way through

Then we get introduced to a character that’s said to be from another series that turns out to be the big baddie that’s kinda OP but not because low and behold people sacrifice themselves to let the MC fight and then left with essentially at a moment where the last few books of him gaining power is pointless and half of his women are hurt/ dying. I’m not sure I’ll pick up the next book. At least that one might actually not be about him bonding and people nagging him about it

Ended well, but the dragged-out determination of who the 6th bond would be bogged things down for most of the book. A common element in the author's books, the reluctance of the male MC to make a decision and bang the (willing, to say the least) women the plot requires him to bang, gets tedious.

I understand the importance of consent, but these stories rarely if ever have anything resembling a non-consenting woman, at least as far as the MC goes. The plots literally require the MC to have sex with women to accomplish whatever the plot demands, so this smacks of filler.

The writing is good and the characters are generally good as well, so it gets a 4. A more decisive MC would have gotten it a 5, even if the book would have been correspondingly shorter without all the dithering.

Introduction:
Greetings, fellow beings of HowlStrom. I am Kiba Snowpaw, an alpha male Ice Wolf from our icy realm, and I have journeyed through the vast landscapes of literature to bring you a review of an audiobook that has captured my attention. As someone who has wielded the power of ice magic for over 36 years and has been immersed in the world of gaming, I find myself uniquely positioned to evaluate this tale. Let us embark on this journey together.

Basic Plot Summary:
The tale revolves around the words of Sybilla's prophecy: “One leaps, one slides, one flies. One will be chosen. One will be copied. One will be lost.” These cryptic words set the stage for a story where the destinies of three young women and a hero named Aden hang precariously in the balance. Aden, a character who challenges the very concept of fate, is determined to carve out his own destiny and, in doing so, shape the future of the world. As he navigates the challenges set by the board and resists the temptations of the shadow, we are left wondering if he possesses the strength to defy destiny itself.

Characters:
Aden stands out as a beacon of determination and resilience. His journey of forming bonds, especially the anticipation surrounding his sixth bond, is a central theme. The character of Cara undergoes significant development, evolving into a more sympathetic figure. ANOP's transformation from a mere A.I. to something more profound adds depth to the narrative.

Structure:
The story is meticulously structured, balancing moments of intense action with emotional depth and character development. The LitRPG elements are seamlessly integrated, providing a unique flavor to the superhero adventure.

Impact:
The tale left a profound impact on me, resonating with the icy depths of my soul. The challenges faced by Aden and his bonds mirror the eternal winter of HowlStrom, where survival is a testament to one's strength and will.

Hook and Thesis:
The prophecy serves as a compelling hook, drawing readers into a world of uncertainty and intrigue. The central thesis revolves around the age-old debate of fate versus free will, with Aden's journey serving as a testament to the power of determination.

Praise and Critique:
The audiobook shines in its character development, narration, and integration of LitRPG elements. The voice diversity in the narration ensures an immersive experience. However, some readers felt that the introduction of characters from other series was jarring and detracted from the central narrative. Additionally, the prolonged anticipation surrounding Aden's sixth bond was a point of contention for some.

Evaluation:
Overall, "Prism Academy #4 - Prophecy" is a masterfully crafted tale that offers a perfect blend of action, emotion, and intrigue. The challenges faced by the characters resonate deeply, and the narrative's pacing ensures that readers are engaged from start to finish.

Comparison:
While the story stands tall in its own right, it does draw parallels with other works in the genre, particularly in its exploration of bonds and the challenges of destiny. However, the unique setting and character dynamics set it apart, making it a must-read for aficionados of the genre.

Conclusion:
In the icy realm of HowlStrom, where the winter season grips us once every hundred years, tales of courage, determination, and destiny resonate deeply. "Prism Academy #4 - Prophecy" is one such tale that has left an indelible mark on my soul. I, Kiba Snowpaw, highly recommend this audiobook to all who seek a journey of epic proportions.

May the frosty winds of HowlStrom guide you on your literary adventures.

As required by U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations and Audible requirements, I am disclosing that I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request. I have listened to the audiobook, and I have voluntarily left an honest review. Receiving a review copy did not influence my rating nor my review.

“Prism Academy 4 - Prophecy” is a terrific addition to the series; both the story and the narration are excellent.

Aden’s 6th bond has been teased for awhile now, and I’m sure we all have picked our own favorite, as has each of his bonds. At long last, Aden makes his decision and forms his sixth bond. Aden explores appropriating powers (with their permission, and the permission of his bonds) of other women. Cara becomes a more sympathetic character in this episode, but….ahhh…no spoilers! I especially liked the ongoing development of ANOP as more than an A.I.

There are a couple of significant deaths (and lots and lots of other death and mayhem!) along with a new villain for Aden and team to face.

Aden and team’s powers continue to grow dramatically, and I’m glad that the author includes just enough stats information within the chapters. For those listeners who want detailed intensive stats, the author provides a couple/few chapters of just heavy stats, and makes it clear they are skippable without impairing understanding/enjoyment of the story. Yep…I skipped ‘em.

A current trend within haremlit is for the covers to be updated. Sometimes the new cover is better, sometimes worse and sometimes pretty much the same. I’ll just say that I like the current (new) cover, but that I REALLY liked the original cover. The first cover really showed off curves with the form fitting latex bodysuits, and I really liked the girl-next-door facial expressions of Twinkle/Kenna and Valkyrie/Petra. Also, the new cover has both Twinkle and Valkyrie as redheads (in the story, Twinkle’s red hair is mentioned several times as a unique characteristic).

Yep; that’s pretty much the only criticism I have! This is a 5* episode for the Prism Academy series!

At my request I received a copy of this audiobook in order to give a fair and unbiased review

Genre: LitRPG Super hero adventure with harem elements

Summary:
It is finally time to choose the sixth and final bond, but first Mexico needs saving. No day is ever dull when you are the prism.

LitRPG system: Stat based with powers and power types. Fits perfectly with both the hero theme and the augmented human aspects of the book
Power dynamics in harem: The Main Character is central and in charge, but respects and listens to the members. Girls all have their own lives and goals, but have a strong loyalty once bonded.
Explicit/adult material: Explicit and steamy. The powers make for some interesting scenes.

Narration:
Voice diversity: Each character has distinct voices and conversation is always easy to follow.
Pacing and intonation: Excellently done. Very immersive, suddenly the book was over.
Sex scenes: Very well done. As immersive as the rest of the story.
Overall: 5 / 5 stars.

The book’s strengths.
- I was very nervous about the choice of sixth bond, but was very happy with how it ended up in the end.
- There is a great balance between action and slices of life.
- The litrpg system is interesting and really well integrated.
- Great narration

The book’s weaknesses.
- The series is reaching (or has crossed) the number of girls I can keep track of. It is not slowing down on that aspect.

Overall: 4.5/5 stars

Well, I thought I was reading Prism Academy...

This is the first two star I have given in years. I am aware of how it affects the algorithm. But to have such a great series fall so flat is too much to give a positive rating.

*Kind of spoilerish*

If you run out of ideas for a story, just pause or hiatus. Don't cram in cast off powerhouses (comparative) from your other books. It felt cheap and stupid to the point of insult, surprise cross over isnt a thing, I was reading Prism Academy, not War God blah blah. It's like a Dark Souls boss showing in Assassins Creed. Also, they completely undermine the antagonist of the entire story so far, shadows not so concerning now, are they and their small potato plans.. spits on all of Adens' growth, with casual disregard of all his abilities, surprise villain even has the perfect ability for negating Adens' best ace in the hole. Then, on top of the cross-over cram middlefinger, he does enough damage to ensure a last ditch effort and creates a damn cliffhanger to force the reader to get the next book and dare them not to drop this series.

A generally entertaining book, if not drawn out and meandering at times- at the very least the orange bond should have been sorted out before now instead of almost two full books of needless will he/won't he drama. The entertainment factor for most of the book is why the score isn't lower.

Unfortunately that entertainment factor falls flat on its face at the finish line, all for the sake of a crossover and a depressing cliffhanger. If you have to bring a character over from another series to be your BBEG when you already have interdimensional horrors beyond imagination - among several other BBEG-based plots - you're doing something wrong.

As another reviewer said: if I wanted to read War God, I'd read War God.

I was excited to see how Prism Academy would conclude, right up until that very last chapter. Now I'm ambivalent at best.

Wow...jam packed!

Okay...there is a lot to unpack from this book. There was a lot of emotional development within this series. I don't know if it was due to his stat gains giving him insights, or the help of all his bonds, but the interpersonal relationships were believable. You literally see Aden maturing and growing from book to book. On top of that, there is a ton of action to help balance the emotional aspects and spicy scenes to boot. I'm also excited to note the connection between this series and War God for Hire. Keep up the great work and I can't wait for the next book!!

The shadows trying to get a truce, make them stronger through experimenting with an old life form and produce weapons of mass destruction.

The prism has his hands full and so do his bonds. He finally starts taking the last bond serious and goes on dates to make the deed. Taking the last bond will not be the last step to fight fate.

The book is good and the progress of the story arc regarding the last bond comes finally to an end. The introduction of a new enemy or maybe frenemy is okay, just because of the smack down to the prism and part of his bonds. Let’s see what the next book will be.

Love this series

Plenty of battles and lots of discovery. I love the crunchy stats and feel the author handles it well enough for those who don't can skip easily and not ruin the story. the MC is very OP and growing by the minute which may be necessary to deal with the future problems as more factions keep entering the game so to speak. The author is introducing a crossover character and we will see where that leads. Lot of ladies but it doesn't drag the book down at least not for me. Enjoy.

Surprise!

It's apparently a small multiverse, who knew? This book mostly focuses on Aden finishing up his team and evolutions, but also moves a few of the old site threads along to their conclusions... up until the big cliffhanger/reveal at the end. The ending of this book alludes to another of the author's series, which is both good and bad, maybe. I'm okay with it, having read the other series, but things are a bit puzzling now. Guess I have to wait for the final book.

Not as good as the previous books.

The story has really gotten silly. The MC combining mental powers that all have different effects was awful as well as other aspects that make the story cringy. Definitely a turn for the worst and I would not be interested in continuing this series that started off really promising. I am greatly disappointed that writers like this can't even write a decent hero story to completion.

Aden the Defyer

The Prysm continues to beat the impossible and take the reigns of his own "destiny". He and his team have begun the task that he was made for: taking the world back from the ones who would steal it and use it for their own purposes and protecting mankind from those that want to use them as slaves and worse.

A great series thus far and I'm looking forward to the next chapter in the story.

Holy crap what a good book

This book was a page turner every single chapter. The dates were so incredibly well done and the romance but at the same time the progress of the characters, world, and that ending were so amazing that this might just be my favorite book of all time.

I would highly recommend this book to just about anyone

Another smashing hit!!!

Another powerfully entertaining story in this series!!! Superhero isn't my favorite style by this author but they made it enjoyable for me to read so that should definitely be a bonus !!! I really enjoyed all the twists and turns that took place this times and the rule breaking the MC and his ladies have done!!! Keep them going!!!

It seems David Burke is doing like Bruce Sentar (maybe) and Matthew Peed. Having their multiple series connect in someway.

This was a slog. More than half the book was spent on which person he should take for his last bond. Really didn't enjoy this. It's only near the end that things get interesting.

Too Short

Really enjoyed. Wish I hadn’t read it so quickly. Final fight was pretty good, though disappointed in the untimely use of powers. Small complaint about an otherwise very entertaining 4th installment. Looking forward to the next release in the series.

Another great story

This series really sucks you in. It is well thought out and detailed. Characters are not one-dimensional and are well fleshed out. The story is gripping and the only thing I don't like is having to wait for the next book.

A very satisfying new chapter in Aden’s story, with lots of cool powers and breathtaking action sequences, he finally picks his orange bond in a very satisfying way.

quite the Cliffhanger

Well my curiosities about Krig are partially answered. I guess giving his mantle away did not stop him from cultivating again? Quite the busy book. I liked the dual bonding situation, that was an interesting moment. Can’t wait for the next one

Like the middle book in a trilogy

Is cara evil again? Can the war god expel the shadow? I hope willow can get her arm back, it may need cara to suck out the shadow. I hope ANOP becomes viable, will he "inject her" as needed or will it be a different integration?

With great power comes great pain

His bonds keep him happy and busy, but he knows there is a long way for him to go, and the enemy seems to keep getting stronger. Very curious to see where this story will go next
