On his fourteenth birthday, Daisuke Niwa comes down with a condition that has plagued men in his family for centuries, causing him to turn into the phantom thief Dark Mousy every time he sees his crush, Risa, and back into Daisuke when he sees Risa's twin, Riku, but in the midst of all the craziness, Daisuke must find a way to get Risa to fall in love with him and cure his condition for good.
Yukiru Sugisaki (杉崎ゆきる; Sugisaku Yukiru in Japanese) is a Japanese manga artist. Her hobbies are dramas, video games, and "collecting rabbit things". Sugisaki's face is rarely seen, as she prefers to draw herself with a rabbit face or mask in her manga profile images. She also seems to have developed a trait of leaving her series unfinished before moving on to different projects (Notably D.N.Angel, which has seen multiple month-long droughts between chapters. She has just recently done many Lagoon Engine installments, including the Japanese release of volume 7. Previous to that, she completed a small series entitled Eden, which had its debut in the October 2006 issue of Shōnen Ace, and finished in February 2007. It saw a departure of sorts from Sugisaki's previous series, with a darker, sci-fi noir theme and older protagonists.
Currently, she finished D.N.Angel in 20 volumes (5 released only in digital).
Her work
She made her debut in "Asuka Magazine" with "Namaiki no N". Her other works include "D.N.Angel (13 volumes, unfinished) ", "Rizelmine (1 volume, finished)", "Lagoon Engine (7 volumes, unfinished)", and "Lagoon Engine Einsatz (1 volume, unfinished)". Her "D.N.Angel" manga and "Rizelmine" manga have also been adapted into anime series. Because the D.N.Angel manga was incomplete at the time, the anime has many differences to the original manga, most notably the ending.
Sugisaki is also the artist of the "BrainPowerd" and "The Candidate for Goddess" manga, both of which have been turned into an anime. Her "Neutral" artbook contains artwork from "D.N.Angel", "BrainPowerd", and "The Candidate for Goddess". Her second artbook, [FEDER:] (which is no longer available for purchase), contains newer artwork solely from D.N.Angel. She has also penned the well-known "Sotsugyo M", and created doujinshi for series such as "Tenkuu no Escaflowne", Neon Genesis Evangelion, Lets&Go , and King of Fighters.
Most of her works feature young, cute main characters and elements of Yaoi, though not considered Yaoi.
Her current project is D.N.Angel, which has finally begun serializing in Monthly Asuka again.
Waaaaaah, this was the last one available in English!! :'( :'(
D.N.Angel really grew on me. I'm glad book 13 at least finished the Argentine/Risa arc. The ending makes it clear the story isn't over, but this book tied up enough loose ends and made an epic, beautiful finale to the series currently available to me. So, I guess if I have to stop here, I'm satisfied.
I love Satoshi, the complicated relationship he has with his family, his hidden talents, all the secrets he reveals about himself. I love his bond with Daisuke, how it’s strengthened and humanized Satoshi in spite of the adversity between his family and Daisuke’s own, not to mention the jealousy of both Krad and Dark. The plot involving the art and its secrets, how the art connects to Satoshi’s Hikari and Daisuke’s Niwa ancestors is fascinating. I
’ve never been able to warm to Riku, Risa, or the overtly romantic quest for the Sacred Maiden. All Risa and Riku do is get into trouble, lose their tempers, and react. There isn’t enough there for me to like them. Too often they get underfoot. It seems like there’s an attempt to push a romance between Satoshi and Risa. It hasn’t been as bad as the ones between Daisuke and either of the twins or Dark and either of the twins, but it doesn’t interest me at all.
Part of the series I enjoy. Part I don’t. Is it really worth pursuing if the half I dislike dominates the ending? Contrived romantic endings for pairings I dislike have become a pet peeve of mine.
At the same time the arc between Daisuke and Satoshi is so beautiful. Beautiful enough for me to give this book (and series overall) four stars in spite of my misgivings.
This is the last volume of the series that I own a physical copy of, so I'll have to see if I can get access to the rest of the series some other way at some point, but I think it'll be good to take a bit of a break from it. I like the series a lot but I have a tendency to get bored if I read too much of the same manga in one go. Anyway, this volume! I'm glad that Daisuke and Satoshi rescued Risa, even if I'm not the biggest fan of her. The backstory for the Niwa and Hikari/Hiwatari families is interesting, and I hope the series goes more into depth and explain it better. I also very much think that I was right about the Danish translation being dog shit, because everything is way more coherent in the English translation (I have volume 12 and 13 in English everything before that is in Danish).
The series is starting to feel REALLY cyclical. Artwork does something crazy, and Daisuke gets sucked in and then nothing actually happens in the long term. And this time the art wants to fight Daisuke for Riku's hand? Can we have more Satoshi instead, please?
D. N. Angel volume 13 by Yukiro Sugisaki is a fun book in the D. N. Angel series. It goes even more in depth about the two families and adds more to Argentine and makes him more than a simple piece of artwork. I liked this and recommend it for people who liked fanasy manga and have already started the D. N. Angle series.
"Esa bestia invisible llamada arte." "Si podés llorar por alguien, eso prueba que tenés corazón. Un corazón no es algo que se reciba. Se nace con eso." "Tus sentimientos son muy valiosos. Pero no son sólo tuyos. Si fueron aceptados por alguien, esos corazones están conectados. Tu corazón se convierte también en el del otro."
Loved this one as well. They just keep getting more in-depth (ie better). I'm loving all of the relationships that are finally getting to be seen. So good! I can't wait to find the next books and finish reading the series!
