Fourth in the popular, light paranormal romance series by an author whose books have sold 13 million copies.
In this sexy, funny paranormal romance by bestselling author Linda Wisdom, it's all beautiful witch Blair Fitzpatrick can do to keep a lid on her talent for revenge spells, but things are about to get a lot more complicated... Blair loves running her vintage shop and hanging out with witchy friends Stasi and Jazz. She's forever had a crush on hunky carpenter Jake Harrison, whose Were nature (he's a Border collie) makes him loyal, lovable, and fierce when need be. Just as sparks are beginning to fly, Blair is served with a big surprise when Jake's mother shows up along with his pack leader, who threatens to make Jake heel! When the alpha does the unthinkable, Blair is pushed over the edge. No one messes with her boyfriend-to-be, even if he does shed on the furniture!
I'm a multi-published author since 1979 and now writing paranormal romance or what I like to call witch lit. 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover came out this past March and Hex Appeal comes out in November with Halloween promotion and will also be carried in Target.
My witch series has also been optioned to be shopped around as a TV series or movie. So here's hoping!
Fourth in the Jazz Tremaine paranormal romance series revolving around a group of witches expelled from school back in 1313. No, it's not military time...
My Take Oooh, boy...we get the whole background on Jake this time around. And it's more than I would have bargained for. I do like Blair's approach when mommie dearest asked for a spell.
It's a tricky courtship with Jake wanting to avoid all talk about his former pack and believing that magickal species just can't mix. Doubts like these are what make Blair push all the harder. Then there's the Pack itself. They're much too big for their britches, thinking they can take what they want. Hah.
Crack me up! I do love Fluff and Puff. Blair's threat about what she'll do to them if they show their notes to Horace or Felix has them tearing paper up like mad!
The Story It's Blair who first meets Jake's mother. Seems she wants a revenge spell for a son who done her wrong. It's while Blair is on her first date ever with Jake that she "misses a bullet" when she doesn't quash Agnes' desire for elves.
The RV that shows up is so not what Agnes had in mind for the Winter Carnival, but its elves quickly become an amazing project with Agnes at the helm! At least it's a bit of comic relief compared to the threats and violence from Roan Thorpe. He has no intention of limiting himself to the resort's acreage. He wants Blair and Stasi's land as well and will stop at nothing to get it.
The Characters Blair Fitzpatrick's shop, Blast From the Past, specializes in "authentic retro items"---stuff that she or her sister witches have decided they no longer want.
Jake Harrison is the town handyman and a Were border collie. He's interested in Blair but only ever gets in her bed as a dog and I don't mean a hound…!
Stasi Romanov is a very happy witch with a lingerie shop, Isn't It Romantic, right next door to Blair's. She's also happily hooked up with Trevor Barnes, a law wizard she met in Wicked by Any Other Name, The girls' shops are side by side and they live above them. Horace is their eight-inch, peeping tom gargoyle. Jazz Tremaine, Irma, and Sirius drive up to the lake with Fluff and Puff. They refuse to be left behind although once they hear about the vacation Nick has planned... Thea is a romance author and Maggie is a mercenary and both manage to make it for the solstice ceremony. Ebenezer handles their financial affairs and the land.
Croc and Delilah have moved in with Mindy. Krebs, Jazz's housemate, just can't take their sneak attacks anymore. Professor Phinneas Peggins is the con artist medicine man with whom Blair and Stasi first arrived in Moonstone Lake and he hooks up with Irma. They could make a good pair of spies.
Eurydice is on the Witches' Council and was one of the witches who banished those naughty witches all those centuries ago.
Inhabitants of Moonstone Lake include: Mrs. Benedict makes the most incredible baked goods and is being quite naughty with Mr. Chalmers. Floyd Pierce is the mayor, but it's his wife, Agnes, who really runs everything. And everybody. With help from Marva. Ginny Chao runs the Sit 'N Eat café, but has run into boyfriend problems with Dave. Grady runs the local barbecue pit. Just reading about it, makes me hungry!Hetty Lancaster runs the town's upscale candy store and Blair does her bit to reduce child abuse by her ex-husband.
The very controlling Agnes has hired elves through Mickey Boggs at Roan's suggestion. Never a good idea. The elves he sends are, technically, elves, but they're also the biggest bunch of perverts---running naked, blaring their music, and pissing everywhere. Alberic is the leader and the group is not enhanced with the green-teethed Elrohir's presence.
Seems the new owner of Snow Farms Resort is Jake's brother, Roan Thorpe, the new alpha of this splintered pack. Vera is the Pack Alpha female, concerned with what is best for Vera. And Roan and Jake's mother. A bitch in every possible sense. Baxter is the Pack Alpha. Suzannewas the Alpha's mate and always wanted what was best for the pack. Jennifer Santiago was Jake's intended before he left the Pack. Mr. Nice Guy is so not in their vocabulary.
The Cover The cover is PINK and represents Blair's shop, Blast From the Past. Including Fritz the Kit-Kat clock. Blair herself is all decked out in her sexy purple date-night dress, her fuck-me pumps, and her Fluff and Puff tattoo as she relaxes atop a purple bureau. A golden skeleton key and a pointy witch's hat completes the setting.
The title is oh-so-Blair when she gets dressed up for her date. She is definitely Hex in High Heels.
Such a cute romance novel. Witches, Wares and ..... Elves, oh my. Jake who is a dogware, finds out that his werewolf brother and his pack decide to buy a ski lodge up in the mountains. Blair is a witch, her and her best friend own pretty much all of the land except the land that the ski lodge is on. The whole book is pretty much Roan wants to buy the land and Blair doesn't want to sell her land.
Hex in High Heels is the fourth installment in Linda Wisdom's witch series. Centuries ago, thirteen witches were banished from the academy because they wouldn't give up the one who performed an illegal spell. Now, they still still keep in touch with each other, even as their banishment seems to never end.
Blair Fitzpatrick runs a vintage shop and sells revenge spells on the side. She's had a crush on the town carpenter, Jake Harrison, for ages. Jake's a Were who turns into a cute and cuddly border collie who occasionally sleeps on Blair's bed. She'd prefer it if he were in bed with her, but something keeps Jake from getting too close to her.
Jake thinks Blair may just be his mate, but knows it's nigh on impossible as they are two different species. She's a witch and he's not! But it doesn't stop the sparks flying whenever the two are near. He's running out of excuses for pushing Blair away and he wants her just as bad as she wants him.
But another force arrives in town that soon has Blair's hands full. With the Winter Carnival coming up soon, a busload of elves arrive to help. They're drunks, slobs, and perverted. Meanwhile, Jake's mom arrives and is determined to get Jake to heel and return to the Pack. Blair is just about to explode and everyone in her way are in danger of her revenge spells. A witch lets no one mess with her man!
Hex in High Heels is a fun paranormal romp! Witches from the previous books make an appearance as well as those pesky bunny slippers! Sassy, witty, and chaotic with a splash of romance and humor turn Hex in High Heels into a perfect treat! I'm looking forward to the rest of this entertaining and magical series.
Ok, I admit it - I love this series. They're my literary equivalent of a Marks & Spencer's walnut whip - light, fluffy, with a good happy-ending chocolate hit, and you don't feel dirty afterwards like you do with the Nestle version. Soon gone, but you know you can get another and it'll be good quality.
I was a bit unsure about this one because of the focus on Blair - I miss Jazz! but there was enough Fluff and Puff to keep me happy. And the ending was a little rushed, I feel. But overall, yep, a solid addition to the series. And I loved he filthy elves, I hope for more of them in future.
Wisdom has a wonderful sense of humor that we can see throughout this story. Hex in High Heels is an awesome addition to the witch series. Blair Fitzpatrick is a Hex Witch, able to conjure vengeance spells to teach people lessons. She finds her perfect pair in Jake Harrison, were collie extraordinaire. Together they have to overcome grubby elves, nosy neighbors, and ex Pack-mates wanting Jake dead. It's another great foray into the world of the others!
This was just a funny, fast paced book that I came across while perusing OverDrive. While a part of a series, Hex in High Heels centres on Jazz’s friend, and fellow expelled witch, Blair, and her relationship with the ever so handsome Jake, who just so happens to be a border collie in his other form. As Blair and Jake dance around their attraction, his estranged family come to town with plans to force the witches to sell their land, but boy, didn’t they tick of the wrong witches.
So much fun, and even includes an extended visit with Fluff and Puff who abandoned Jazz when she threatened them with a white water rafting trip. They are the cutest slippers in fiction 🥰
x-rated. Witch Blair doles out revenge spells. Were dog boyfriend Jake long ago left vicious were wolf pack now headed by his nasty brother Roan and bad mum Vera. Odd circle is new Pack. Typo: 14.19 unusual IS usual
The heroine has always had a serious crush on friend but not matter what signals she throws his way, he just doesn't seem to be receiving them. Now she knows about his shifting abilities and the fact that he saved her life a short time ago and more than ever she wants to be a part of his world. But he keeps secrets and when pressed, he goes distant. She wants to have him want her as badly as she wants him and if there's one thing she's good at its persistence. If only she knew just how unnecessary her seductive attempts are.
The hero has always wanted the vibrant and feisty heroine and if not for certain aspects of his life, he would gladly give in and show her all the pent-up sexual frustration he feels inside to be close to her but unable to have her for his own. But his life if complicated. As a dog shifter, he is basically the outcast of his werewolf clan but he left his pack because of its nasty and evil politics. His mother is a vindictive and selfish woman and his brother is no different. Now, his brother is snooping around town and after so many years of feeling free of the pressures of his family, he's once again thrust into the middle of their games.
The heroine is a powerful witch, one who too is outcast from her coven but she's made a life for herself in this sleepy little town and no matter what, she's not letting it go to an encroaching pack of wolfs. She's smart and she's strong but she knows all of this has something to do with the hero. His brother showing up, his bitch of a mother and even the fiancée he failed to mention. It's a regular family reunion. Still, she's fought too long and hard to have the hero is her arms and no matter how angry she gets, she still loves him. So, when the brother decides to break pack and coven law by snapping a shifting ban collar on the hero's neck, the heroine is livid. She'll find a way to get that thing off him and when she does, she and her own pack will rain hell down on everyone who's ever attempted to do harm to hers.
While the cover is funny and indeed, there are humorous aspects to this book, I did enjoy the thin layer of danger and power politics that was laced through. I enjoyed that the heroine and hero could swear and talk dirty to each other even in the presence of evil bunny slippers. This book had a talent to balance the comical and the series and there were times of both laughter and fury. The heroine was a strong witch and with her fiery temper and powerful magic, she was a force to be reckoned with. She refused to budge when it came to getting something that mattered to her and the hero was one of those things. She pushed him and push him until her surrendered to the chemistry between them but she did it in a less bitchy or obsessive way. The hero was just a man wanting to be free of his oppressive pack and when he sees his brother again he knows his happy little life is soon to become complicated again. He worries for the heroine who will fight for him and risk herself for his benefit but he too is strong enough to fight for her. Though she is witch and he a shifter, she is his mate. No matter about betrothals or politics or anything else, when she declares he is her family, she gains his heart and his loyalty forever. It was a light book peppered with some drama and actions and for that I enjoyed it more than the typical comedic romance.
Another funny installment to this paranormal romance series about a group of witches banished from the Witches Council a few hundred years ago. We're back with Blair and Stasi in this one in their little mountain town of Moonstone Lake and Agnes, the mayor's wife, is organising the annual Winter festival, roping everyone in when they don't really want to be involved.
The first meeting for the festival starts the ball rolling with all the trouble that is going to pile up on top of the witches. Roan Thorpe is the new owner of the ski resort and happens to be a werewolf. Even stranger than that, he also happens to be Jake's brother. Jake is Blair's love interest, but he's not a wolf: he's a Border Collie in his furry form and one who Blair desperately lusts after. Jake lusts after Blair too, but knows that they are too different a species to make a proper go of their relationship. Blair, being the feisty witch she is, won't let that stand in the way of getting her man. Roan's pack is quite aggressive - they want to buy all the available land in the town for their pack grounds and want Blair and Stasi's land too, but there's no way they are letting it go. The fight for the land begins with some very desperate action from Roan and some great stand offs between him and Blair.
I love the romance between Blair and Jake and was so glad she was not going to give up on getting her man. He was a bit more reluctant but soon realised that his heart knew what he really wanted and gave in to it. My only issue between them was the after sex action. So many times they had sex, for one of them to get up almost instantly, get dressed and go off somewhere else. It just didn't feel like the romantic element in the aftermath of all the heated sex was there.
As always Fluff and Puff were brilliant, but this time as a tattoo. I just wished they could caused more trouble for Roan and his pack, although they did come in handy with the dog collar.
Loved the idea of the bad elves as well and the way Agnes dealt with them was fab. Who would have thought a big batch of lasagne could change these rowdy, rude, obnoxious elves into clean, polite, helpful ones?!
My real let down with this book was the ending. The fight between Jake and Roan was what I expected, but I didn't expect Eurydice to turn up and basically save the day. I think it should have still been down to Blair and Jake to do that, rather than some other powerful witch doing it for them.
I do love this light-hearted, funny series and can't wait to read the next one!
Hex in High Heels was my introduction to the world of Linda Wisdom and Blair Fitzpatrick. Though it is book four in the series, I decided to start from book four and then see how the series struck me, if it was something I would be in to. As it seems to be, the books are all loosely connected with the same characters reoccurring, but different ones taking the starring roles. So, though the series was new to me, I hoped that I wouldn’t have to know too much about Blair and her life previously to enjoy Hex in High Heels.
Blair Fitzpatrick is a witch who just so happens to run her own vintage store and has a thing for a were-collie carpenter named Jake Harrison. The drama is hot enough between the two of them as they work out mutual feelings for each other that could soon blossom to something more. Yet, it is never enough to simply have relationship drama. No. There is always more. Jake’s family ad former pack come to town looking to buy some land from Blair and ease in close to. This pack is made up of wolves, far stronger than the mere collie that Jake becomes. The worst part is that the alpha of the pack is Jake’s brother, working in tandem with their vicious mother, who wants him dead!
Blair is as determined to keep Jake as the pack is to have him and see him dead. Good thing for the pair of them that Blair is as powerful a witch as she is. Does make it any easier that some trouble making elves are also causing Blair a considerable amount of distress.
This book was a lot of fun, for sure. Throughout the story, even in times of drama and distress, the story was infused with humor. At the same time, the characters were not all lighthearted parody’s of magical creatures and things. There was a really great balance to the story, to the drama versus the humor. I really liked Blair and rooted for her the whole time, though of course we all know that the good guys generally win in the end.
I did, however, feel like I may have gotten more out of the cameos made by other characters if I had read the previous novels. A few times, characters were brought in or things were alluded to that I had no idea about and could only assume they happened in one of the previous books. Suffice to say I am going to put the other books on my wish list and get them one by one. If they are anything like Hex in High Heels, I know I am going to enjoy them immensely.
This is the fourth book in Linda Wisdom's witch series. For the most part they are cutesy and entertaining, none of them what you'd call spectacular. This for me was the weakest.
Blair is a witch who specializes in revenge spells. She lives in a small town and owns a shop that sells all sorts of retro/nostalgic items that she and her fellow witch friends have gathered over the many years of their lives. For me one of the most baffling hard to swallow parts of the series is the fact that these women are hundreds of years old, but act like they're in their early to mid twenties at best--but I digress. Blair finds herself attracted to the local carpenter, a were-Border Collie named Jake. As the sparks between them begin to fly, Jake's old pack starts sniffing around and demanding that he return to them. On top of this Blair is dealing with con artists, ditzy human neighbors, and a band of surly and drunken elves.
Obviously these books are meant to be light hearted and funny, and for the the most part they are successful in this. There's quite a band of off beat side kicks which include Horace the gargoyle and Fluff and Puff the man-eating bunny slippers. It's overdone in my opinion, but passably amusing. I would not say that the plot was entirely boring, even if it did ramble along pointlessly.
All said though, I had many issues with this book, starting with the characters. Blair was pretty one dimensional for a hundreds year old witch. No real back story is given to distinguish her from the other witches, no markedly unique personality traits, and not a glimmer of development in the whole story. Jake is a bit better, because we get a sense that he has a painful past that he's overcome (we are actually given a few details to go on), and his personality stands out a bit from the other men in the series. Their romance was pretty juvenile--they behaved more like horny college students then adults at the start of a deep meaningful relationship. Really, the whole book is pretty shallow. Even the werewolf pack and their devious plans couldn't create enough conflict to make the story seem worthwhile.
I have liked this series overall, but I can't really recommend this one. Kind of a flop.
What’s a guy to do when his family shuns him? To make matters worse, the family wants him dead.
Deciding to leave his family and go out on his own wasn’t a difficult decision for hunky carpenter Jake Harrison. Letting the feisty shop owner, Blair Fitzpatrick, get close to him is.
The two are complete opposites. Blair is into vintage items. Jake is an outdoors-type. Blair is a witch. Jake is a Were-Border Collie.
“Hex in High Heels” is a funny, laugh-out loud magical journey. It’s a mixture of romance, suspense, humor and exploits with just the right amount of paranormal added to create a perfect blend.
Trouble begins before the Winter Carnival when Jake’s brother and mother show up followed soon by the rest of their pack. Added to the mix is an RV full of unruly elves causing chaos around town.
Can Blair convince Jake she’s on his side in time to help him save the town from his family of Werewolves? First she has to rescue him from the city pound before he’s destroyed as a killer dog.
Author Linda Wisdom weaves a story of loyalty, trust and honor while taking the reader on a magical carpet ride. Meanwhile, the sexual tension between Jake and Blair explodes on the page creating an erotic adventure for the reader.
The story is fast pace from beginning to end. The cast of zany characters adds to the enchantment. You’ll be bewitched by Horace, an eight-inch, gray-stone gargoyle; Felix, the Kit-Kat clock; and Fluff and Puff, bunny slippers who become a tattoo; along with various other witches, wizards and ghosts.
“Hex in High Heels” is the fourth installment in Ms. Wisdom’s paranormal romance series. It’s a stand alone book. However, you’ll be reaching for the other three books just to see what else has happened. The book also includes a recipe and a sneak peek at the next Hex book, “The Best Hex Ever.”
Let the magic surround you and draw you in as witches, wizards, werewolves and elves come to life. Let your imagination take you away to Moonstone Lake where life is anything but ordinary.
“Hex in High Heels” casts a spell of intrigue that will have you twitching your nose for more.
I had a fantastic time reading Hex in High Heels! Although this was not the first book in Linda Wisdom's Hex series, it was super easy to fall right into the story of "feisty witch" Blair and Shapeshifter Jake's story. Linda weaves a wonderful world were magical creatures exist within our midst and she shows both the light and dark side within that world - all while keeping it hexy and sexy! I now have a new series to go back and enjoy from the beginning!
My love of a good witchy paranormal has been mentioned before, but I can never say it often enough - there is something be-spelling about them for me! I enjoy both light and dark witch stories, jut will say my favs are always those with humor and sass. Hex in High Heels has humor and sass to spare...along with some great sex appeal and fantastic pacing.
This book is a perfect example of how secondary characters can add to a story, without taking away from the hero and heroine. From the other witches that pop in and out, to the Elves, ghosts and gargoyle, Linda's secondary characters are hysterical fun and I hope we see them in other books. I wasn't particularly drawn to the fuzzy bunny slippers, but maybe I'm missing something from the earlier books?
The storyline about how there are thirteen witches banished from the witches academy in 1313 is very creative and I can't wait to see what clues or tidbits about that we'll get in the other books. It definitely has my interest piqued to find out more of the story and how powerful these thirteen witches really are.
My one wish for the story was to see Blair use her magic a little more and to see a better glimpse at how powerful she supposedly is. I did feel that she was saved a little too much by other powerful beings instead of using her own powers.
If you're a fan of crazy, funny witch heroines who are sassy and...dare I say it...CHEEKY, then I think you'll really love Hex in High Heels and the Hex series from Linda Wisdom. It's a perfect Halloween treat!
This is the fourth book in the Hex series by Linda Wisdom and with each book in the series the focus shifts to a different witch, except for book 1 and 2.
This novel focuses on Blair, a sexy witch who has been expelled, along with 12 other witchy friends from the Witches Academy, for 700 years. She now lives in the 'real world' and runs a book/lingerie shop with her witchy friend Stasi, who had her own story told in Book 3. Sometimes Blaire helps the town folk by putting hexes on the people who hurt them, just to teach them a lesson or two!
Blair is warm, sexy and fun, with a little sass thrown in and is completely smitten with the local were-border collie, Jake, who, until recently, she thought was just the local carpenter. She is sure that the attraction is mutual but sees that he needs a little time to realise he actually feels the same. Meanwhile, his were family arrive in town and begin to cause problems.
Jake is a hot were-border collie, who finds that he just can't seem to resist the scent of Blair, even though he tries. He has a lot of history that he really doesn't want Blair to know about, it's better kept buried, but it becomes increasingly difficult to keep it that way with Blair asking so many questions.
Although there isn't a lot of action, the pace is steady and there's enough gentle suspense to keep it interesting and it held my attention until the very last page. This is a wonderfully light paranormal romance, that is fun and entertaining. It's also quite humourous in places, especially with the addition of the enchanted slippers, Fluff and Puff. There are some love scenes but they are written well and add to the flourishing romance between Blair and Jake.
Verdict:
If you enjoy paranormal romance, then this book is definitely for you. It's warm, funny and thoroughly enjoyable and I definitely recommend it! Lots of witchy fun!
I gave this book 7/10 but Goodreads still doesn't give half starts.
Linda Wisdom's Hex in High Heels is a fun novel that will have readers giggling and becoming inspired to use their own magical revenge spells.
"Horace bounced up and down in his excitement as he met Blair and Stasi at the kitchen door. 'Let me tell you, wolf shit smells really bad when it's set on fire. I put bags outside of every door, so they got it everywhere. That Roan dude was royally pissed, too. And I left a bag at the end of one of the ski runs and someone ran right into it!' he chortled. 'Talk about brown skid marks,' he snickered." (Page 232 of ARC)
Blair is a a hot-headed, sexy small-town witch with fiery locks who just happens to have the hots for a shape-shifting Were Border Collie outcast, Jake Harrison. Her roommate, Stasi (short for Anastasia) Romanov, own a pair of shops and a great deal of land, including a lake. While Stasi sells lingerie and romance novels, Blair sells a variety of antiques with each day bringing in a new theme, ranging from the roaring 20s to WWII.
Their quaint life is interrupted when Jake's former Pack moves in on the witches' land and attempts to bring him back into the fold. With help from a gargoyle sidekick named Horace, ghosts, and their other friends, the Were Pack runs into some trouble.
"Her squeak came out louder than expected. She turned to the front of the room and took a longer look. 'Oh boy, you're right -- that's one powerful Were up there, and I don't think he's a Werepoodle, either.'" (Page 68 of ARC)
Wisdom's characters are quirky and outlandish, but the magic is in the fun these characters have with one another and when battling common enemies. Readers who have not read paranormal romance before should be cautioned that there are detailed sex scenes in this novel and reality will have to be suspended. Readers looking for some light reading and just a good deal of fun, Hex in High Heels is for you this Halloween.
Blair loves running her vintage shop and hanging out with her witchy friends Stasi and Jazz, she has quite the knack for revenge spells and she's always had a crush on local, hunky carpenter Jake Harrison, whose Were nature (he's a Border collie) makes him loyal, lovable, and fierce when the need arises. Just when things are finally getting heated with Jake, she’s thrown for a loop when Jake's mother shows up along with his pack leader, who threatens to make Jake heel! When the alpha does the unthinkable, Blair is pushed over the edge. No one messes with her boyfriend-to-be, even if he does shed on the furniture!
Where to start with this one... well, I loved it. Blair is such a funny and witty character. You fall in love with her right away - she’s spunky, full of sass, tough, and if she gets angry you better watch out, or she just might curse you. Jake is the perfect man for her. He's tall, dark and hairy handsome - their conversations were such a treat. I loved that she wanted him while he was playing all hard to get. A girl loves a good challenge and Blair knows how to fight dirty.
Although this is the fourth installment in this witchy series - it was such a pleasure to read. It can definitely be read as a stand alone although I will say that I am now intrigued and want to get my hands on the first three in the series (50 Ways to Hex Your Lover, Hex Appeal and Wicked By Any Other Name <- just love the titles). I loved all the witchy elements also scattered throughout - the talking gargoyle, Horace, and the kitty cat clock (you know the one with the swinging tail - brought fond memories of the one my grandma used to have in her kitchen). This was such a sexy, funny and flirty novel - I recommend it to anyone who just wants a feel good read.
"Fun, fun, fun. That's my short review. I thoroughly enjoyed myself reading this book. Ms. Wisdom has created a fascinating world filled with witches, weres, wizards, fae, elves, and so much more. I love the fact that she has added her own spin to each of these myths, making them different from all of the other supernatural series out there these days. [return][return][return]The synopsis describes it as sexy, and I'll admit I was not prepared for its steaminess. However, I'm also not complaining about it either. That side of the story only made it that much more enjoyable for me. ;-)[return][return] [return][return]I love Blair. She has a confidence and zest for life that is both refreshing and inspiring. She makes me want to add a little flair to my own wardrobe, to play with colors, add kitschy decorations to my house and just stop being so compelled to make everything straight-laced and relatively boring. She inspires me to feel comfortable speaking my own mind and standing up for my beliefs. In other words, she gives me permission to show the world who I truly am. It may not be the message Ms. Wisdom intended for the reader to learn but it is what I take away from Hex in High Heels.[return][return][return]The witches' back story is rich and fascinating. I would love to see Ms. Wisdom branch out into stories about each of the witches over the course of their 700 years, but I find no faults with the story as is either. While the character development is not the greatest, it is what I expect from a story like this and does not in any way detract from the enjoyment of the story. In fact, I can't wait to read more about Blair and her witch friends!"
Hex in High Heels is the fourth book in Linda Wisdom's Jazz Tremaine series. In this book we get a closer look into the life of Blair, one of the 13 witches expelled from their magic academy 700 years ago.
Blair lives with Stasi in their small mountain town by Moonstone Lake, the place they gather every full moon with their witch sisters. She also owns her own store selling retro items.
Like the other witches, Blair has her speciality which happens to be creating revenge spells and finally finds her match in the local handyman Jake Harrison introduced in the third book, Wicked by Any Other Name who happens to also be a were border-collie.
Up until now Jake was a great mystery to Blair, for good reason too. All his efforts to keep his past a secret from Blair were in vain as his former pack turn up and bring a world of trouble with them almost killing Jake in the process.
One of the things I was a little disappointed with was when some of the other witches mentioned throughout the series come for a visit on the full moon, I would have like the chance to get to know them a little better but they left almost as quickly as they had arrived.
There isn't much I can say about this book, it was a fun and quick read. Not my favourite of the series, if I could I would rate it 3.5 stars.
My Thoughts I really enjoyed this book. Blair is such a fun character to read about. Her specialty is revenge and she's not afraid to speak her mind. She's brash and in your face but not in an obnoxious way. She's been in lust with Jake for a while now and while the interest is reciprocated he's still keeping her at arms length. Blair is the type of witch who knows what she wants and will stop at nothing to make those wants come true. She's willing to help those who need her and is fiercely protective of the ones she cares about. Jake has his own secrets that he has been protecting and still isn't sure he can let Blair in. When things take a bad turn with the arrival of Jake's mother and pack, Blair and Jake's relationship speeds up. It's a wonderfully dangerous journey these two take along with their band of crazy friends. Fluff and Puff also have a bigger role in this book which is always a plus. I only wished there were more family interactions and a stronger plot but all in all it was a great book. This is such a fun series to read and it doesn't disappoint with it's humor and good times. The relationships are strong and the danger gets high at times. I would recommend this book and series to anyone who loves a fun, lighter paranormal read. Warning: some violence and adult content.
In Hex in High Heels, we meet Blair Fitzpatrick. She is a witch. She is also friends with Stasi and Jazz. Blair runs Blast from the Past. A shop that specializes in vintage items.
Jake Harrison is the object of Blair’s affections. Currently they are just friends. He would like to take things further but he doesn’t want to get Blair messed up in his life. He is a shifter. Right now is not the time for him and Blair to get involved, especially since his pack wants him back. They want Jake back so bad that they are willing to travel to get him.
Blair doesn’t need Jake’s pack causing problems. She has her hands full with unruly elves. What else could go wrong?
I have read almost every book in this series. I have enjoyed them all. While, I did like Hex in High Heels, I just wasn’t feeling it as much as I did the prior books. Though this book still had some funny moments that are classic of Linda Wisdom’s writing style. I don’t know what it was but I just didn’t connect with Blair as much as I did with Jazz and Stasi but I still would love to party with Blair as she is fun. I like that Linda Wisdom gives each witch her other personalities and allows them their own chance to shine in their own books.
Linda Wisdom is another new author to me. This is the first time I've read her work. If you haven't heard of the Jazz Tremaine series, it's a series about witches or should I say "Hexy" witches. The first two feature, Jazz Tremaine herself, the third featuring Stasi Romanov and 4th and latest book Hex in High Heels features Blair Fitzpatrick.
Blair runs a shop called Blast from the Past that sells vintage items and she's also a witch. One that has been crushing on shape-shifter Jake for a while now. When he starts pulling away she is one confused witch. But when he gets in a bit of trouble, she's determined. Nothing and no one is gonna stop her from helping Jake.
Hex in High Heels is a light fun read. It was a joy to read. I loved the flirting and the dynamic between Blair and her hunk shape-shifter crush, Jake. In Blair's story you'll find romance, magic and adventure. If you enjoy humor along with your paranormal you'll be sure to enjoy this one.
A solid romance. The main character, Blair is a witch who specializes in revenge spells. She's had an attraction to Jake, a Were who turns into a Border Collie. Not the first in the series, but it reads as a stand alone. Nevertheless, I missed out on some world building in the previous three novels, and I'd have enjoyed this novel more if I'd read them first.
Not a straight up romance, there is action, suspense, and numerous plot complications.
The sex scenes are pretty good.
Only one complaint really for the book and that is the term hex or hexter or hexy is used way too much. I got that the title is a gimmick to catch the eye, but the repetitive use of a form of hex rubs me the wrong way.
Other than that minor pet peeve, I liked the story. I liked Blair, Stasi, Jake, Trev, Horace, and Alberic and even the former girlfriend wasn't a cookie cutter terrible woman. Roan was the classic villain and was Jake's mom. Well done.
Linda Wisdom is one of the most reliable writers in the paranormal romance genre, of the last several years. You know she'll give you a fun story, flamboyant & imaginative "pets" & companions to her bevy of bewitching heroines, and fabulous romance - in & out of the bedroom (or office, or kitchen table, or....like I said, always imaginative and fun.) I'm also inclined to say that Blair may have passed Jaz, in this book, as my personal favorite Wisdom witch. Or maybe it's simply that as the world Linda is creating grows, and she becomes more comfortable in that world, as its creator, the characters, too, are growing in the same fashion. If you haven't read Linda's books, you need to correct that omission from your bookcase, post haste. (If you don't she may sick Fluff and Puff or Horace on you. Don't know why that's scary? Read the books to find out. ~cheeky grin~)
I have not read the full Jazz Tremaine Series yet and have only read the 3rd(Wicked by any other name) and 4th, which could almost be stand alone books and be a part of thier own series. I certainly do plan on reading the rest of the series but Stasi and Blair will by fair be my favorite story lines.
this book includes humor, action, suspense, smoldering sex scenes, and incredibly sexy were that turns into an adorable border collie!!! what else could you ask for...
But for a few Drunked crude elves that change there ways due to a bit of babying and homemade lasagna!! Yes you heard me right!! Drunken Crude elves who are a riot!!
If you're going to tackle a pack of wolf shape changers of course all you need is a pissed off revenge witch, an incorrigible gargoyle and a border collie with family frictions.
After giving the trusting collie brief tokens of affection Blair finds that her tall dark and handsome is also four legged and furry and on death row. It's one thing smuggling a prisoner out of the dog pound but figuring out what's going on in the psychotic pack. When Blair and Jake are up with the plan it'll take some fancy footwork to exorcise the town of the bitch and her followers. Not to mention some elves who are so not disney. No one better for the job that our witchy heroines.
This is book 4 in what was originally called the Jazz Tremaine series but was changed into the Hex series. This one centers around Blair and her Were boyfriend Jake; meaning that all the other Hex characters are included. So yes, the rabid bunny slippers are here and so is the gargoyle and Jazz's ghost Irma. It's a typical Linda Wisdom Paranormal Romance - full of natural humor, sassy women, good friends, wonderful side characters, some hot sex, action, and adventure. It was a good book and it's a good series and I hope that the series will go on to cover all 13 of the exiled witches.
Witches don't mix with other species but in this book they do. You have all the humor in Ms. Wisdom's other books in this book. You have romance/mystery/action and bunny slipper, ghosts, gargoyle and so much more. I like how the romance is written in with the mystery. Blair and Jake, Staci and Trev make awesome couples. Agnes is now more than just the power behind the mayor but a bit of a mother figures as well. It should be interesting to see how the characters come together in the next book of the series.
This was an okay book. A bit light and fluffy and quirky. I think if I had read the previous three books before this one I would have enjoyed it more. I have not decided yet if I wish to go back and read those books yet. Maybe if I have nothing better to read I will. The characters were okay but I was busy playing catch up on to who was who too much to really enjoy them. An easy read and entertaining. And the sex scenes were pretty hot! :)
This fourth book in the Jazz Tremaine series has Jazz making only the briefest of appearances. The story centers on Blair, one of the group of witches that includes Jazz and Stasi, the focus of book #3. We get the story behind her were-dog boyfriend Jake as the small town that Blair and Stasi live in is threatened once again.
This was another fun, fluffy, mindless read. The story line in this one was a bit weak compared to the others in the series.
