I really wish this book focused more on the ghost story. Instead, 2/3 of the book was about Courtney. Courtney is such an extreme stereotype, I couldn't see her as a real person. She's a cheerleader, has an eating disorder, has a band of followers, and is mean just because (by the way, Courtney's way of being mean was just immature and just plain annoying. Seemed more like how a mean girl in a middle school would act. If a teenage girl acted like that in a high school, I don't see how she would have a band of followers). She also said things that sounded like a television script, as in, no real person would actually say those words. I don't know how else to explain it. Frankly, Courtney just wasn't a believable character to me and since she was the focus of the book, it kind of ruined things.

I also had a hard time with the writing. This book is an example of when authors try to write teenagers in a believable voice but fail horribly. Things were purposely misspelled, there were very stupid slang words, and it was overall very annoying. Every time a character called Courtney a beeyatch, I wanted to throw the book across the room. You can say the word correctly, you're in high school, not middle school.

I did like the ghost story, but it was a very small portion of the book. We have hints of a Civil War solider throughout the book, but we don't actually have any real confrontation with the ghost until the last third. Also, fun fact, it takes Kendell a very long time to connect the dots.

So, the longer I type, the less I enjoy this book. Apparently, I was not a fan. I guess it comes down how unbelievable the characters and writing was. The ghost story was more believable.

I enjoyed this book better than the 1st book in this series, but all in all, my enjoyment is tempered by the following: the language is very "real" in that the heroine swears or uses crude language almost non-stop through-out the book. Personally, this bugs me; I try to keep my language clean and have a hard enough time without it being dragged down by everything around me. The heroine is a strong, creative person who could clearly express herself without resorting to such shallowness. Secondly, on page 184, the heroine quotes several passages from the Bible to justify spiritualism. I'm not going to rant here, but several of the passages were taken out of context. Jesus wasn't a ghost; he was God in man. Period. Ok, I do realize that this book is a work of fiction; please don't get me wrong. I would just hate to see someone be misled. All in all, an enjoyable read--just keep your eyes open and be aware. I would of liked it more if it weren't for those issues.

Well, it didn't get much better than the first one. Moving on from the first installment, Kendall has fallen into her roll as the new town psychic. I've never seen a town be so accepting, which makes this even harder to believe. She is getting phone calls and jobs to help spirits pass or stop haunting certain places, all the while she and her group of friends are still trying to get everything on camera for documentation. The new twist is with Courtney, Jason's ex girlfriend and super rude cheerleader. She decides that she needs more attention so she pretends to also be psychic. WHAT!? In what world do we live in where an entire town thinks that's cool or an attribute of someone popular? Maybe 100 years ago, but now people would immediately think you an outcast. So, for me that was stupid. Courtney is also a very annoying character and I get that towards the end she redeems herself, but it's still not enough for me. And I think the mean-girl-turned-good is just overplayed and poorly done. I'm not sure why we still don't know what the heck is up with Emily. This is a secret that should have been spilt from the end of book one, they are really dragging it out.

I have so many mixed thoughts about this series...

First off, I like the characters. A good blend of personality types. The story line is really good. Much like the firs book I was easily caught up into what is happening. It helped that the characters played true to their roles and personalities. The other seems to have done her homework on ghost hunting (and watched her share of Ghost Hunters the tv series) and seems to have some new age knowledge.

What I didn't like. Mixing the religion into the book. While some churches deny ghosts and others say they exist, almost every church I know of will say 'do not look into the spirit world.' Be it demons, ghosts, angel or whatnot, there is a reason most people are oblivious. Even if you can see it, don't seek it out! Just my opinion. so mixing that aspect in disappointed me.

My biggest problem is the text speech. I can deal with it if I am reading a text but not general first person perspective. Also, the incorrect slang spelling. Evah for ever, etc. Honestly, spell it correctly. I understand if she is talking out loud, but she isn't. I strongly feel this type of writing in a book is leading the youth to being even more illiterate than many already are. I already see so many teens who truly cannot spell even the simplest of world. Books like this scare me because it makes me wonder what books will be like in 5-10 years from now. I almost gave up after the first book but the story kept me going. Not sure I can say the same after this one. It gets worse.

For teenagers, they will likely enjoy this, but PLEASE do not think this book is all proper English, spelling, etc. And please do not use this writing as an example of good or proper writing. Otherwise, enjoy a fun story-line with enjoyable characters.

I am soooo in love with this series! Not only did it REALLY keep me company while I was laid up in bed with this crud, but they characters are doing things that I have always wanted to do. Things I have ALWAYS been fascinated by. I've always been on the fence about these things though because, really I don't know how to look at it. whats right and wrong. But looking at it from the books perspective, Kendall really has these abilities and she uses them for good. To help people and earth bound spirits. Though, the things that Kendall's mother has been taught, well, I have been kinda taught too. I mean, no one has ever came right out and told me you are not supposed to get involved with psychics or things that are paranormal, its always just kinda been understood. But then again, I also feel like if things like psychics and ghosts exist (and I do totally believe they do) then just like everything else, there can be a good side and a bad side. So yes, I TOTALLY believe in ghosts. And I think it would be AWESOME to go on a investigation or be part of a ghost hunters team! Though, I have never had the opportunity. I have never known a psychic, met one, or talked to one. But I do think that there is probably a place for them in this world and if they are here, well there abilities must be God given and it is not for us to judge. So now that I have gotten all that out of my system, let me tell you some about the book. In this book, things are really starting to come together for Kendall. She is learning more about her abilities and word is getting around about the Ghost Huntresses. Their first case is REALLY awesome! As they help a family find their lost loved one. And no I don't mean lost as in he has passed away, but that its true, what I am talking about though is that his body has literally been misplaced! Can you imagine! HOW COOL!! But as they begin to investigate this case, there is another spirit present. A soldier, and he is very angry. They sidestep him for now and are able to speak with the spirit of the man they are trying to locate. But this will not be the last they see of this soldier.

While everyone in the community is coming to love Kendall and the Ghost Huntresses for all the aid they are giving to those who need it, there is one person who is not happy about Kendall and her new found abilities. Courtney Langdon. She is supposed to be the most popular girl in school, she is the head cheerleader after all! She is supposed to be dating the hottest guy (which happens to be Jason Tillson), and he is now with Kendall too. Her jealousy beings to bubble over and she starts to make Kendall's school life really hard, calling her Ghost Girl and ever spilling her food on her on purpose. Things come to a head when they are assigned to be partners in their physiology class. They actually have to work together, and Courtney is not going to make it easy. Taking some advice from Loreen, Kendall gives Courtney a book on understanding psychic abilities, thinking that if she understands whats going on with her that she will be a little more understanding. WRONG!!!

Kendall tries her best to make the best of things and not let Courtney get to her. She has other things to worry about, like the doctors visit and tests that she promised her mother she would go through to confirm that her abilities are actually real and not some medical problem. But even with that hanging over her, she is also trying to just be a regular teenager. She tries to have a normal night out with her friends and boyfriend, but a ghost has another idea and it turns into an unexpected investigation at the bowling alley. Courtney and her friends are there and she is not one bit happy as once again, the attention is turned to Kendall.

With info about Kendall's abilities in her hand, now Courtney can pretend that she has them as well! And she really tries and for a while, it gets her the attention that she is looking for. Until Kendall and her friends learn how she is receiving information and set out to prove to everyone that she is faking. In front of the whole cafeteria, they prove her to be a fraud, so the gig is up, and once again every one's focus lands back on Kendall instead of Courtney. Halloween is coming up and there is a big party planned at Stephanie Crawford's house and everyone is invited. Kendall is even going to be giving readings there as a favor to her new friend. Just as the party is starting to get good, Courtney takes a group to the study and begins to hold a seance. Not only does she try to contact the spirits, but despite Kendall's warnings and efforts to stop her from holding the seance at all, Courtney invites the spirits to use her to communicate. And there the soldier is waiting to jump inside of her and push her aside.

The soldier oppresses Courtney and though they think that he has left her when Loreen and Father Mass show up, it was only temporary. He continues to control her and make her do things that she wouldn't normally do and it seems only Kendall and her team can make this right, or can they? As things start to get worse with Courtney, they start doing their research. Will they be able to rid Courtney of this angry spirit? Will they succeed in helping him find the light and move on from this world to his final resting place? Well I'm not telling. But I will tell you that I like the first, I totally LOVED this book!! I loved it so much that I decided I couldn't wait for the next one to come in the mail and immediately grabbed my nook and bought all the rest that were available for it. It was almost a blessing that I was sick because I got to lay around and read non stop. Oh yea! And it was a good thing because I don't think I could have stopped myself if I had wanted to!

i really like how even though the first book left off on a cliffhanger this boo did not start in a random place and not explain anything. There is not a recape of what happened in the last book in the series so i would sugest reading the books back to back.

my favprite part in this book was when kendell is helping one of the spirits cross over into the light because the writer makes what is happening so clear to where you can make a image of what is happening in the story in your ond.

my least favorie part was when cortney did the seace` and when see had a osession and was " touching her boobs during the football game".

I hated this book. It could have been cut down by about 100 pages honestly. I had to put it down and walk away so many times it was pretty unbearable… the author just didnt do a good job in balancing the bully aspect with the ghost and everything else that captured me in the first book. To finish i had to skim about 1/3 of the book. It was courtney this and courtney that… i’m reading the next book just so i can find out what is going on with emily and her mother’s secret! Although i am disappointed how the therapy chapters were rushed while the courtney stuff just dragged on. Hoping book three is way better since it’s shorter!

What a great book!! Even though it's the second in the series, Marley makes you feel like you already know the characters. There is very little backtracking which allows the story to flow nicely. I can't wait to read Kendall's first adventure as well as the ones that come after. Definitely a FANTASTIC summer beach read!!

A good second book in the Ghost Huntress series. I liked this one more simply because there wasn't as much explanation and exposé. Everything was rather cliché but I felt like there was an actual story there as opposed to the first book in the series. I will say--don't try to read this without reading the first one though; it won't make any sense.

The Guidance is the second book in the Ghost Huntress series and picks up a couple of months after the first book, The Awakening has ended. We find that Kendall and her ghost hunting team have been in hot demand all over town. But not everyone is thrilled with their new found fame. Courtney, the malicious, bulimic high school queen bee, is stewing over Kendall’s popularity and new relationship with dreamy, ex-boyfriend Jason. In a jealous rage, Courtney decides to fake her own psychic awakening to shift some of the attention back on herself. Inviting spirits into your life isn’t something that should be entered into lightly though. The ghost that ends up oppressing Courtney is one so strong and vicious that Kendall must step in to try and save her, that is, if she can. On top of it all, Kendall’s mother is still struggling with Kendall’s psychic abilities and intent on having her probed and prodded by the medical community. Could life be any more stressful?!

The Ghost Huntress series, which was once a trilogy, is now at least a five book series. The storyline kept the fun rolling right from the start in a believable and intriguing manner. Instead of giving in to the temptation to just lash out at Courtney; Kendall was extremely mature in dealing with her bullying tactics and phony awakening. I loved how she didn't hesitate to step in when Courtney’s plan to steal the psychic spotlight erupted out of control and to also bring in adult assistance when things REALLY got out of hand. Kendall’s voice, in the first person, is so wry and humorous; I would’ve loved to have had her as a friend when I was in high school too.

Kendall deals with numerous issues that I think all teenagers can relate to, such as fitting in at school, and balancing family, friends and dating. The books are definitely aimed at fashion and music conscious teen girls and I can see why the product labeling would appeal to them. As an adult, I will say that too much teen speak with words like “craptastic” or “ridonkulous” gave me pause, and considering how quickly teen slang changes, I worry whether this series will become too dated down the road. But, I do think that Marley’s teen readers will appreciate her style of writing and relate to the character depictions on a personal level. Kendall is so believable in her mannerisms and speech that if I didn’t know better, I would swear Marley is a teen writer herself! And an author who can make her characters so vivid and believable like that is someone to watch out for.

What stands out to me most in these books is the research Marley Gibson has done on ghost hunting. It’s obvious in the quality of her writing that she definitely knows her stuff. I really appreciate the way she illustrates the basic types of equipment and ghost hunting techniques without ever losing the reader with too much technical jargon too.

I’m extremely curious about Book 3, especially since the epilogue left us with clues to ghostly Emily’s past and an ominous vision for Kendall’s future!

Note: For more information on how to set up a ghost hunting team, equipment to use and where to look for spirits, check out this great resource- The Other Side: A Teen's Guide to Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal by Marley Gibson and Patrick Burns and Dave Schrader . It's a fantastic reference for teens looking to start up their own ghost hunting teens or anyone with an interest in general!

The second book of Ghost Huntress is...very interesting. I personally found it to be so pointless that it was ridiculous. I mean, the plot itself was fineee but the whole book itself seems like it was written by a kid.

There didn't seem be any flow between the different subplots: the catfights betewen Courtney and Kendall, Kendal's relationship with Jason, Kendall with her ghost hunting, and Kendall's relationship with her three best friends. I felt like things were really scattered and it seemed like there wasn't any real focus. Like, the main issue is supposed to be Kendall and her ghost hunting but with all the subplots, it seemed like the main plot was pushed back.

Another thing was the slowness of the book in general. There were random bits of the supposedly "sinister ghost" but nothing really started until the second half of the novel. I grew restless waiting for it to come and had to put off the book numerous times until I finally decided that I should finish it once and for all.

The characters seemed very 2D. There was no real depth in any of the characters and I felt like they were just there - with little or no purpose in life.

The "romance" between Kendall and Jason seemed almost nonexistent. I mean, it was there but nothing seemed to happen between the two. No spark, no excitement, etc.

Overall, the second book of Ghost Huntress wasn't that great and you could definitely live without it.

I'm not sure how to feel about the fact that I read this book in literally 3 hours oops.
I did enjoy some of the book, mostly the paranormal part. The story between Nathaniel Fair and Ada Parry was very touching. Other than a few interesting plot points, this book was kind of annoying. I honestly would rather have read Ada Parry's diaries instead of whatever this was. Kendall and Jason are still moving really fast (they said "I love you" to each other??? It's only been a few months please stop). I also don't understand how Becca went from being very against Kendall meddling in her past to suddenly breaking down and telling her the entire story. Her sudden openness to talking about past trauma didn't seem realistic to me.
Courtney is a whole problem. She's stereotyped to the max. That part is pretty self-explanatory so I won't talk about it.
These books perpetuate a lot of toxic gender roles. One example was when they were at the bowling alley. Kendall mentioned ordering Coke Zero for the boys and Diet Coke for the girls, and I didn't understand why that was a necessary detail to add. There were a lot of other instances like this, but I don't really want to find them. It was one of the more serious things that irked me. These books have an underlying theme of female empowerment, but it also has these details that might give the wrong idea about what being a "strong woman" is to younger readers.

Now that Kendalls' gone through her awakening and saved her father from a ghost, she and her friends have been working all over town. Not everyone is happy about Kendall's newfound abilities.

First, her mother still doesn't believe her daughter's a psychic, and she's made Kendall promise to be tested. Kendall and her mom travel to Atlanta to meet with an open-minded doctor. They talk about her awakening and finally run mental and medical tests.

Courtney, the queen bee at school, hates all the attention people are giving Kendall. Plus, she hates that Kendall is dating her ex-boyfriend. She comes up with a plan to shift the attention back on to herself: she fakes her own awakening.

However, Courtney doesn't understand the rules and she's playing a very dangerous game. When a seance turns into something more, Kendall knows she has to step in and save Courtney if she can. The ghost oppressing Courtney is more vicious than any spirit she's ever encountered. She's not sure if she's strong enough to handle him.

The second book in the once trilogy, but now at least five book GHOST HUNTRESS series, picks up a couple of months after the first book, THE AWAKENING, ends. It continues the fun, danger, and romance of ghost hunting.

The ending left me with goosebumps and I can't wait to devour the next book in the series.

The sequel to The Awakening, The Guidance continues Kendall Moorehead’s journey in discovering her psychic abilities. While Kendall adapts to her new academic environment, Courtney Langdon the “popular girl” felt threatened with Kendall’s new popularity as a ghost huntress. As a result, Courtney tries through multiple attempts to draw attention to her such as pretending to be a psychic and conjuring a spirit which happened to be a fierce soldier during the Civil War who was betrayed!

The plot line in the Guidance moved much faster than The Awakening while keeping me interested. Gibson’s soldier of the Civil War made much more sense when relating to the history of the town unlike the previous ghost in the Awakening. Furthermore, Gibson did a better job in tying up the loose ends of the book such as Kendall’s mom’s disbelieve in her psychic abilities and actually bringing Kendall for additionally help. Another loose end was Emily, Kendall’s childhood imaginary friend/ghost. I actually got to learn a little more about Emily but not too much; this made me want to learn more about her and it made Emily seem more realistic to the readers. The ending was much better than its prequel especially ending with a cliffhanger that made me want to read more but at the same time, I know what the next book is generally about.

REVIEW
This series introduced me to the world of ghost hunting. Gibson clearly did a great deal of research for these books because she includes descriptions of ghost hunting tools and techniques. I actually wish there had been a bit more explanation because some of the tools were a little confusing to me.
I liked Kendall as a main character. Aside from her psychic abilities, she seems like a rather average teen. The story is told by Kendall in her teen speak. This did not bother me, but I can see why it might bother an older reader. My mother would probably find the dialogue annoying.
In the first book, Kendall is just becoming aware of her psychic abilities. By the second book, she is using her powers to help spirits move on. Tensions heat up between Kendall and popular Courtney in The Guidance. The rivalry between them added some spice to the story.
The story takes place in an old Civil War town with lots of history. Again, Gibson’s research shows as she includes details about the “march to the sea.” I am a history buff, so this caught my eye.
Book 3 – The Reason is already on bookshelves, and Book 4 – The Counseling comes out in September, 2010.

First posted on Barnes & Noble on June 9, 2012.

After finishing the first book, which was somewhat decent, I decided to start the second one. I'm sorry but I could not get through the first two chapters of this book. It seems very strange that after only two months they've somehow solved 18 cases (including the first one) whilst dealing with things like school, homework, and parents. It also seems odd that Kendall's mother would let her put off going to a doctor for that long of a period (because of how religious she supposedly is). Unfortunately, that was as far as I made it because it was that horrible.

Also "kiss my perfect little ass" Who talks like that? No one when I was in high school, which was around the time this book came out. An eighth grader, maybe? I don't know. My last complaint for this series is the author's use of Wikipedia in her bibliography. Now I'm all for using Wikipedia to look up stupid things like who won the Super Bowl or that movie that's playing on TV. But I know as a college student (and even as a high school student, too) that I would be pretty much crucified by my professors for using a source like Wikipedia. Yet somehow this lady can get away with publishing a book using it. That's messed up. Maybe I'm just too old to be reading these. Hmm. This will most likely be the last book I attempt to read by this author.

Strangely enough I appreciated this book more than the first book in the series. In this book I find it more believable that a ghost that is earth bound is a little bit pissed off and would be very strong as a result of this anger. The ghost in this story, has a reason to be angry because he was greatly wronged when he was alive. I enjoyed solving mystery of this ghost's history and angst, the relationship issues that developed between Kendall and Jason as a result of her ghost hunting schedule but again I was confused by the teenage thinking in Radisson, Georgia. For instance Kendall,Celia, Taylor and Becca become extremely popular because they are Ghost Huntresses. Really?? When did being psychic and seeing ghosts become a cool thing in high school. When I went to high school the people who were involved in those kind of things were considered weird (which in all fairness was not fair to them or right) and far from popular. However in Radisson, everyday is opposite day or maybe things have changed drastically since I graduated from high school? I can totally see Kendall and her gang being considered cool by some people but not the whole school as Marley Gibson portrays them to be.

This second novel is not only just as good as the first one was, but is even better. Kendall is getting a lot of attention at school, and Courtney is incredibly jealous. She figures she can get attention the same way Kendall is, by being psychic but, as far as Courtney goes, it's all pretend.

>Until she violates one of the cardinal rules of being involved with magic. Never, never, never use an ouija board or hold a séance unless you really, really know what you are doing and have established a ton of defensive measures to enclose you and any other with you. Unless you are absolutely sure you know exactly what you are doing, don't try it. Even if you think you know what you are doing, don't try either of these methods. They can lead to major trouble.

>Which Courtney gets into. This involves the spirit of a Union soldier who has a lot of anger and is determined to stay in one area and, when he can, stay in Courtney.

So it's up to Kendall and her ghost hunter team to figure out a way to get the guy out of Kendall and on to the light. It's not that simple, of course. Also, it turns out there is a very tragic love romance story involved with the soldier and things end up more complicated that they seemed at first.

A thoroughly excellent novel.

Just made it to chapter seven and sd far its been pretty good. Though im not really interested in ghost books it keeps my attention. The Story is about a girl named Kendall she is a ghost huntress by weekend and straight A student by week. She has a boyfriend whose ex is her " sworn enemy" her name is Courtney. Courtney is the cliche highschool girl , you know, most popular at school , head of the cheerleading squad, blonde and beautiful. Kendall abilities includes being able to read auras,or emotions, the color or shadow of a person. She can also read minds and make contact with the dead. her friends, Becca, Celia and taylor are her crew for bringing spirits to the "light" ( heaven or spiritual peace place ).She faces many trials trying to help the spirits while also trying to maintain a normal life. Im not done with this book but so far i would rate it 3 stars :)

I think I liked this one better than the first in the Ghost Huntress series. Kendall finally finds her own voice and becomes confident in her abilites both normal and paranormal. There is enough action to keep the pages turning, conflicts between her mother and boyfriend to get sorted out as well as making friends with cheerleader who previously made her life hell. It doesn't hurt that the cheerleader is possessed by a spirit and Kendall helps to expell him.

This series is just wonderfully scripted and should pull in girls of all ages. I think that this is probably safe for any teen, especially those recultant readers. There is just some kissing and exploring that is safely put to a stop by her ghost mentor, Emily. I can't wait for the next one in May, 2010.

Ghost Huntress: The Guidance was a great sequel to Marley Gibson's Ghost Huntress: The Awakening. There are some phrases used word-for-word in this novel from the first novel - I'm unsure if it was a mistake or Marley Gibson purposely reusing them to really define the character of Kendall.
With an addition of a few new ghostly friends and some not-so-friendly spirits, the small town of Radisson, Georgia is just as exciting as in the first novel. You also learn more about Courtney Langdon and Stephanie, one of the fellow cheerleaders at RHS.
Marley Gibson also leaves the novel off with an enticing leader into her next novel, Ghost Huntress: The Reason. I'm on the edge of my seat with excitement for the next installment into the series.

This book is the sequel of the first. Kendall's group of ghost hunters has got out in the school. Everyone is so happy and curious about them. But one person is very jealous. That person is Courtney, the ex girlfriend of Kendall's boyfriend. She is suddendly having powers and able to seek information like Kendall but it is all fake. This doesn't stop her, she continue to play with the spirit world and get herself in trouble. Kendall has to help her get out of this mess. The old ghost of a angry union soldier takes over Courtney;s body and he won't come out.Kedall and her group has to make him come out and make him go to heaven if he is still eligible to go.

It's been years since I last read this series and I only have 1-5. I've now ordered 6-7 (pricey because I live in Asia).

This second book in the series matured a lot from the first one only because of Courtney's doings. Kudos to Marley Gibson for making a character that is really easy to hate. Unfortunately, because of this, it was hard for me to put myself in Kendall's shoes to help her. If it were up to me, I would've have left that b*tch to die.

It's kinda magnetic to read. Can't stop myself from reading it to the last page. Hooked up to the past of the ghost that haunts K. Especially, the love story of the ghost that turns out to be a hater due to some twist of events in his past life. I would really like to believe there's a chance in the next life for people who ends up with the wrong one. :)

Really good read with young Kendall handling being bullied in a very mature way. It helps of course that she has good friends around. Her mother needs to lighten up though.

The only reason I didn't rate this higher is the medical information is incorrect. No one who has undergone a CT scan and an MRI will mistake the devices. The device listed was an MRI machine, not a CT device.

I love this book. Kendall is still learning her powers but ghosts don't take no for an answer so she plows forward with helping them the best she can. There seem to be more ghosts in this one than the last book. I love that you learn more about her best friends in this book. I can't wait to read the next one!!
