Rescued from the Depths

Rate this book
I’m stranded on an island, but this isn’t Castaway and coconuts. There’s no Tom Hanks or Wilson. There’s me, some monkey-like creatures and… oh yeah, I’m on another planet. Grass is blue, dirt is green, and I’m never getting home. Earth feels like light-years away, because it is.

To make matters worse, there’s something in the ocean. I can feel it watching me, and sometimes I catch sight of a finned head and glowing purple eyes before it ducks back below the surface. I expect to remain trapped on this island until the end of my days. What I don’t expect is a creature with the body of a god to emerge from the tide one day…and pull me to the depths with him.

Rescued from the Depths was previously published in the limited time Alien Embrace anthology. This version has been re-edited and expanded.

Doing a little detour with this one. I had not planned to read this one, but I decided that I'll read this one as part of my July 2025 LBR with my group:
Midnight's Embrace

Here is my Original Review for this story, back in August of 2021:

Though this version is said to be expanded, the original, has 6 chapters and an Epilogue, while this new "expanded" version only has 5 chapters and an Epilogue.

This story "Rescued From The Depths" is concerning the Drixonian Warrior "Quist" who we met briefly in the Freshas in Xavy and Tabitha's book I believe, book #6... I was always curious about this aquatic Warrior and wanted to know his story. It was interesting.

This brief Novella was a little intense, a whole Lotta Sweet, and just Sexy enough... Though I hoped Quist and Sierra would one day get to be with his brethern, I get why that just wasn't possible right now.

This one was a quick read, but it answered my questions regarding this warrior.

So I'm happy with it. I would have preferred a few more chapters though, and a bit more intense building within their coupling. There's only so much you can do with 6 chapters and brief epilogue, however.

Still, the Epilogue in this revised version, gave more info as well as a little more hotness with Quist and Sierra. And I actually squealed in delight when I learned that we will see more of Quist and Sierra in the new novel " The Alien's Charge" I believe that book is in the latest Spin Off, The Outcasts of Corin series.

You already know that I will definitely recommend this Novella.

But please make sure you read the original Drixonian Warriors series first, before you read this Novella. As far as placement goes, I would read this book after reading book 6, The Alien's Challenge, before moving to the final book of that series, book 7..

*2.5

The heroine just bugged me in this one. She just went with the flow and didn't really negatively react to being abducted by aliens. The hero was like "live in a cave forever with me" and she was like "sure!" Like they just met 🤣

Great short fun read. Sierra wakes up in the middle of an ocean drowning amidts chaos. She gets saved by something with tentacles and lands safe on an island. Then. she discovers she's on a strange alien planet. Fortunately someone leaves her food, water and gifts for her.
This is like Blue Lagoon in an alien world. I just wish the book was a bit longer.

This book felt like when those intrusive thoughts just win out, ya know? No point to it, the audio lasted all of 10 minutes basically (it was that short!!) and was just …..nonsense.

I hated it but it was also incredible???? Mixed emotions idk. It’ll probably live rent free in my head.

Mysterious sea creature with glowing purple eyes and the abs of Poseidon saving our heroine from a deep sea nightmare? Ah yes, please. This novella packs a punch with fated mates, warrior vibes, spicy tentacles, survival drama and a witty enjoyable tone.

loved!!

Loved getting to see the other side of things from the freshas. Especially after Tabitha’s story. Seeing another drixonian who was experimented on, just like our other fave series of modded men was another angle added to the mix. Loved how we got a short sweet and spicy story. Quist is perfect in his need to care for and protect sierra, after she is stranded in the freshas. They soon learn they are Cora externals and learn to navigate their new journey. Loved how when faced with new and scary changes that they coped like normal people do. But when pressed he gave her the firmness, structure and resilience that she craved when scared of the unknown. Lovely ending. Can’t wait to see them again.

Well, well, well i haven’t read a good alien book in a while, and this guys in the cover? Looks delicious and he has tentacles!!! I can’t wait to see how he will use them hmmmm. I love these kind of books where the girl is lost in the wilds, it’s just so primal hahaha. Fucking hell she was kidnapped… damn guys I always think what I could do if some day I was kidnapped by aliens… it’s definitely one of the worst scenarios ever, because what can you do in a spaceship? You’re in the fucking space !! But at least our girl fell into some planet, it’s best than a spaceship because in some planet you can… I don’t know hahaha you can run? Well run is a good choice and us humans are a plague if we can breathe in the place we can survive.

Guys take note, if you fall into a island wait some time in the shore this is the safest place for you, yeah you could need water but to go into the florest of the island you need to be careful because of what you can find there… like predators.

Then I stared at my tentacles and fingered the gills in my neck. I couldn’t face her. Even out of the freshas, when my tentacles shrank, I was still an abomination of my former self. She’d be terrified, and rightfully so. It was best to stay out of sight.

Well tag me intrigued, he was a warrior and had a former self, what happened to him? How he looks now? Woah so he was an experiment? Poor guy, well looking for the bright side he is hot.

“Why didn’t you show yourself to me?” He looked away, and I got the sense he was ashamed. “I knew you’d be scared of me.” “But—” “I’m a deformed monster.” I stared at him. Well damn. Quist needed therapy.

Tell me who doesn’t need therapy? Hahaha. Woah … just… woah !! Sweet baby Asmodeus!!! The guy has sucking tentacles in his cock!!! Well some guys are blessed by evolution uh? Hahaha this book is good a little too fast paced? Yeah absolutely but whatever it’s hot like REALLY hot so I’m liking anyways, but I won’t lie I wanted more world building and more… you know character development? Ok they can be mates but c’mon just because you’re stranded in a alien island doesn’t mean you’ll just fuck with the first alien guy that helps you just because you’re mates… he’s not ? And kind? Yeah but c’mon girl where is your self preservation?

He sat in the corner, making himself appear as small as possible because that’s what he did when I was on a tear about something. He even nibbled on a claw like a naughty kid. I turned on him.

Damn he’s cute hahaha ok ok maybe what matters? If you just fuck with the first kind alien in an island? You only live once… well at least one you can remember anyways . Damn she’s pregnant…ok this is what happens when you fuck a LOT without preservation… ok they’re technically different species but they’re mates so makes sense she can get pregnant… and guys she’s absolutely right to be freaking out and being a bitch, I could probably be even worse, damn she’s stranded in a fucking island in a alien planet and she’s even pregnant with a alien baby? Yeah she has all rights to be freaking out.

Whelp, they make squid porn for a reason, and I am here for it. If you have ever wanted to lose yourself to the embrace of an octopus, then this is the book for you!

This author is absolutely brilliant! They have balanced the perfect amount of action, adventure, desire and romance. I have read every single book in the Drixonian series, including every book of the each offshoot. This standalone falls in line with the stolen warrior offshoots. While staying true to the Drixonians we’ve come to love, this book adds a bit more with the warrior’s advancements. In the stolen warrior series, one can rage and fly, one can create fire with his hands, one can throw and regenerate his spikes, and in this standalone, the Drix is a water warrior.

Written in first person, Rescued from the Depths follows Sierra, a human female who was abducted from earth before her captor’s ship crashed in the oceans of Torin, and her Drixonian warrior Quist, a failed Uldani science experiment who rescued Sierra from the dangerous waters. Quist was tossed and forgotten about, afraid to return home because of his new condition and being rejected by his fellow Drixonians. He swam Sierra to a secluded island and cared for her from afar until an altercation with the slave traders still looking for her forced him to reveal himself. The two grew close and eventually fell in love, which ultimately resulted in Sierra getting pregnant and birthing their daughter Trist.

Sierra’s behavior during her pregnancy had me ultimately disliking her character. I understand that she was scared, but she treated Quist like absolute garbage when he had been nothing but good to her. He had enough bullshit in his life that he really didn’t need her adding to it.

I will also add, with a bit of disappointment, that while each book in Ella’s series has different characters with different outlooks, each outcome is exactly the same. Boy saves girl, boy has issues about his past that prevents him from “claiming” girl, girl has exact same issues, girl saves boy somehow, “Fatas” gives both boy and girl matching wrist tattoos that mark them as mates, boy and girl finally accept their feelings for each other and live happily ever after. That’s the bases for each and every book. Still, I will read it over and over again with a sense of fulfillment.

I f*cking love Quist in this book and I am here for him. All I have left to say is, “She is all!“

Literally wasn't expecting it to be so zamn cute.
I loved the epilogue so much.
I laughed so hard at it and it also had me feeling some sorta way.
The stream was 4.8/5 fr
Yes I agree with everyone, this should have been way longer, I could have read 400 pages of this.

Here's some of my favourites qoutes:

When I got a craving for peanut butter, he spent three whole days traipsing inland, hunting some legumes, and grinding them into a paste. When I gagged and cried because they tasted horrible, he only rubbed my back and apologized.

From now on, whenever you fly apart, I will put you back together just like this.”

“She’s awake,” he murmured in my ear.

“He’s playing soccer with my bladder.”

Quist chuckled. We liked to argue over the gender.

I wish you would have told me sooner how you were feeling so I could talk you through it. So you will in the future.”

He didn’t ask. He demanded, and the knowledge that I could unburden myself on him fled away the last vestiges of fear. “I will. I’ll tell you.”

“And if not?”
“If not, I get a dicking down.”

He snorted in my ear. “Yes, cora-eternal. That’s what you get.”

“I can’t wait to meet him,” I whispered.

“And I can’t wait to meet her,” he answered.

I'm weird

I liked the writing. Very easy to get into. Both Sierra and Quist are likable characters. It's a novella and it has a HEA, so a lot is going on very rapidly. I don't know why I thought that this would be more sexual. I just assumed that a story with a hero with tentacles would be more perverted? Maybe I'm the pervert, because I went in thinking "oh boy this is gonna be good." And it was. But it was not explicit. It was sweet, when there's no mention of killing or aggressive weird little monkey type creatures.
Also, the pregnancy and her hormones and her need for submission came out of nowhere. Maybe if I was more familiar with this author or this series I would have been expecting it. But I'm not so I wasn't. It wasn't bad, just felt like it wasn't executed properly. Again because this is such a short story and because it was my first time in this universe I couldn't connect with this. It's probably the perfect little short story appetizer for her fans waiting for her next full length release.
I liked it though. Will probably check out the rest of this series.

Good

This was kinda sad and beautiful and exciting. I loved that this is another Drixonian story. I'm feel bad that he doesn't see his brothers to let them know what happened to him and that she doesn't get to meet any other humans. It is kinda like reading a book on the Blue Lagoon but alien style. So it is an interesting read. It's short and sweet too, well worth the few minutes it seems to take to read it.

This was previously published under an anthology that I had read before so I was immediately like 'hey wait.'

Anywho. It's fine, it's not super great as far as kidnapping, new-world, alien romance goes, but it's a short entertaining read. I obviously remembered it well enough to be like 'yep, I've read this' so the plot is identifiable.

As it's been previously ranked by me, I won't star again.
BUT--
Happy reading!

Can't lie, the tentacles a little weird and if it was written by anyone else, id probably be put off...but Ella Maven does it? Sign me up! This was a short story written for an anthology of sci-fi romances, so its super quick. Like I read it in 30 minutes quick!
The plot, awesome! The sex amazing! The characters, slightly basic but I think this was like 100 pages so you can't have it all. I really liked it, would recommend.

What a sweetheart of a love story. I adored Quist and Sierra, their story was about trust and survival. The steamy scenes sure were hot! I would love to see them reunited with the rest of the gang and something worked out for Quist to help him on land….hint, hint!

Light, fun, refreshing

Another great Drixonian story but different then the rest. It may be a set up for the next Warriors story but it seems like it belongs to the stolen warriors set. Unlike those stories, however, this doesn't end on Coria and they are left to make their own HEA.

More brilliance by Ella Maven with a short and sweet novella. This is only the second story I have read where the MC has tentacles and I wasn't sure how I'd feel abou them but I have to say I'm definitely being converted. Quist is an absolute sweetheart and his story is pure Drixonian gold! I have a feeling that we will be seeing these two again and I can't wait.

It was cute and interesting… at first. Since I’ve read the other book in the universe I understand the world, so none of my issues with this book was the quick pace, what really got me what how Sierra changed in the epilogue and Quist just… didn’t do much. It was odd. I liked that they talked things out, but getting to that point was a rough ride.

Quist & Sierra

This story is short but enjoyable. We didn't know his name when he appeared in a previous book, but I've always wondered who he was! Of course he's a Drixonian altered by the Uldani and lived a very lonely existence.... until Sierra. I am looking forward to seeing their family again soon!

It was fine…I’m just never a fan of novellas and I’m sad that it seems as though they’ll never get to be with the Drix. I know they appear again in the stories but it makes me sad that he won’t get to be back with his kind especially after the happy ever afters that everyone else got.

Still a cute story and very fast paced!

Rescued From the Depths

A sweet love story, definitely worth the read. I like the twist of an amphibious Drixonian. Honestly, I love this entire series. The world overall has fabulous complexity, the characters are interesting and fun, and the sex scenes are well written (they further the development of the characters).

More of a solid 3.75, but rounded up. While this is a standalone book/novella, I definitely would not have enjoyed it as much without having read the Drixonian Warrior series. The other books in the series have all of the world-building. This story is an interesting addition to that universe/world.

love it

What a great book, great addition to Drixonian series. I enjoyed reading about Quist and Sierra, not all aliens are monsters. There was action, mystery, fighting and adventure with romance mixed in. Thanks can’t wait for next in series
