What do a pumpkin, a cyborg, a dog, and an alien have in common?
They are all one person!

When I was ten, my mom bought me a pumpkin for Halloween. A year later, it transformed into a bizarre animal that I ended up raising as my dog.
Except that it isn’t a dog at all. My lazy, lovable pet Pumpkin turns out to be an extremely dangerous fighting machine that never should’ve been created.
Now, those who made him steal him back, taking me along by mistake. I find myself on a haunted spaceship with no crew, hurtling through space with a destination unknown.
As I learn more about the creature I’d grown to love as my childhood friend, I realize how little I knew about him before. When Pumpkin goes through yet another transformation, becoming Maxx, our feelings for each other grow far beyond friendship.
Maxx is so much more than his creators meant for him to be. But can I make the rest of the world see it when the world doesn’t want him to exist at all?

She has a sorta dog for 10 years that has 3 tails. Then she finds out it is not a dog and can talk. THEN she is kissing him!? Do you have a dog? Do you love it sooo much that if it were human-ish you would kiss+ more with it? It was just weird.

4.5 stars. Cassy, the female human lead, acquired a “pumpkin” as a child that, a year later, hatched into a “dog” that she’s had as her pet for a decade. Now 21, when she’s attacked at the park, her “dog” Pumpkin attacks her attacker, then they’re taken into a spaceship. Now Pumpkin changes into a human form that Cassy calls Maxx, the male lead. But the ship’s AI informs them that Maxx was built to be a super soldier and is now being transported back to his makers. Then they find his makers are long dead and everyone else distrusts his self-control and wants to exterminate him…

This story is dual POV, well written, and a fast paced, complex and interesting romance. I enjoyed how both Maxx and Cassy could acknowledge the deep love they felt for each other early on. I really enjoyed that most of the story was working through the logistics of making their relationship viable, that they readily admitted they had one. I enjoyed the intimate scenes. I enjoyed the character and relationship development and I really enjoyed the resolution for their situation and relationship.

Beautiful fall read!

Dove in fully expecting to fall in love with the world and the characters within this story and was not disappointed!

My pumpkin had by far one of the most heartfelt storylines just yet! Although the Serpent’s Touch duology takes the metal when it comes to emotional plot lines and character growth, this story is right behind it. I loved and adored Maxx and the dynamic with Cassie. They were such sweethearts together and had me hugging my pillow. Both Cassie and Maxx had wonderful lines in this book that stuck with me. Their love surpasses above all and it had me squealing!! Maxx is the perfect book boyfriend and I’m super excited to add him on my shelf. He’s snuggly, has built in heating, AND has three lover parts? Btw his line delivery while talking about it was perfect!! Also was curious about how he would… use them.

This book made me laugh. It made me cry. But as always had a beautiful ending.

Well done, Marina!

I love this author. All of her stories are well thought out, action packed, romantic and of course an excellent HEAs. This story has all of that and more.
The characters are well described. The world building was good.
I loved how MAXX aka Pumpkin evolves in the story. Always thinking of Cassy's well being. Making sure she never gets hurt.
Cassy was a delight. Always positive when it came to MAXX. Their interactions were fun to read.
Fun, easy to read , and very enjoyable book. Something I would read many times when I want to read a feel good book.

I love it!
What a delightful story! These two grow up together: their shared experiences create the deepest bond imaginable. I love seeing the changes that occur over time, and how their relationship develops. Cassy has no clue how unique her Pumpkin is. Time and circumstances lead them into a highly volatile situation. I was so worried that their adventures would not end well, but love prevails. It’s an amazing, heartwarming love story, with a most unusual hero and a never-give-up heroine! I love it!

DNF at 18%. As much as I love this author, I don’t think I’m up for reading about someone falling in love with her 10-year old pet. Even if he transforms, he’s still only 10. Now, I could be persuaded to read this if one of my friends reads it and they do a review that shows this somehow isn’t what I think it is. But I’ll move on.

I loved this one! Well written science fiction romance that was different and very imiginative. With a dash of fun, space travel, steamy romance scenes and alien v monster action. When Cass was little, she brought home a strange 🎃 just before Halloween. A year later, it hatched into a little 🐶 like creature. It was cute, fluffy and loved belly rubs. Then, ten years later, her affectionate little doggy changed again... ❤️

This is a good sci-fi alien romance, my favorite of the series so far. It gets 4 stars from me.

The author states that the books in this series are all standalone, and that is true for this book, but I don't think all the books are truly standalone. I think the rest of the books in the series should be read in order, beginning with Married to Krampus, as each book builds on the others. Some parts might be difficult to understand, and would certainly not be as enjoyable, if the other books were read out of order.

The basic plot of this book was that Cassy's mom lets her get a "pumpkin" for Halloween when she is 10. But it is not actually a pumpkin, and later hatches into a creature which she thinks is an odd dog. He continues to grow and change over the years, until they are finally abducted by his creators. (Cassy is taken, too, while trying to stop him from being taken.) What follows is their adventures on another world, and her learning about his true nature. I won't give spoilers, but the story is very entertaining, and Maxx was a very interesting being.

Cassy and Maxx were both likable, and I loved that they cared so deeply for each other. It didn't bother her that he was different, and she didn't care that he had been created for a specific not-so-good purpose. He cared for her, even though she was human and didn't understand the world he had come from. They were adorable together, and parts of their story were a lot of fun.

The book does contain sex scenes, which were very creative, and fairly explicit. I loved that they were both so attracted to each other, even though they were very different.

Since Cassy and Maxx basically grew up together, it was easy to believe when they fell in love. They knew everything about each other, and were very good together. I was glad when they found their HEA.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

I’m a simple woman. When I see the words pumpkin and dog in a book synopsis, I’m going to jump. Especially considering I wanted to try reading more alien type romances. This novel follows our FMC as she discovers her pumpkin in a pumpkin patch as a child. Soon after the pumpkin hatches into a strange puppy with multiple tails who grows alongside her. Things start to get really crazy when our main character takes her not-dog dog out for a walk when she gets home from college, and they’re both abducted by an alien spacecraft.

This novel has dual POV’s which I love as a reader. It was so interesting to see what it felt like to experience life as a not-dog dog and as our main character wakes up abandoned on a spaceship. There was a lot of space talk in this novel with great descriptions of the ship, the sources of food, water, and even oxygen supply.

I had a little trouble coming to terms with the romance aspect of this book considering the fact that her dog transforms for a third time into a half humanoid half animalistic alien creation. I guess as a dog lover personally it felt awkward to change gears and have sexual interest in the being that was once her pet. The characters do address this awkwardness which made it bearable, and towards the end of the novel I felt myself getting more on board with their relationship.

I found the time on the spaceship a little dull, but really enjoyed the later part of the book. Overall I thought the author did a great job creating new species, suspense, and eventually romantic chemistry between the characters. Going into this novel for some reason I thought this would be more of a Halloween story, but the only Halloween discussion is the first chapter when our MC finds her pumpkin.

I think sci-fi romance readers will enjoy this short 250-ish page story. I did mostly enjoy my time reading it, but I wouldn’t say it was out of this world great for me.

A pumpkin that hatches into a dog(-ish) who evolves into a person-ish creature. One who likes Cassy in all the best ways. RAWR!

But seriously, Cassy took care of her strange pet from the beginning and didn't think much of his peculiarities. Then she starts dreaming about a man with mismatched eyes and it throws her for a loop. When she and Pumpkin end up on a spaceship, she realizes her "dog" is a whole lot more than a pet and suddenly those strange dreams start to make a little more sense.

On Maxx's end, he might not have known what he was, but he loved Cassy unconditionally. And those more-than-friendly feelings he'd been having about her recently morphed into something concrete when they end up aboard the spaceship and he realizes what he is.

A "haunted" spaceship, a dangerous planet, a man who is more than he seems, and a woman who likes all of him. Non-standard parts and everything. *thumbs up*

I was all, yes I will go for something weird, and indeed, it was rather strange.

Cassy gets a weird dog?! from a pumpkin and loves said dog for 10 years. Oh the dog is super weird and has three tails, but they think its a birth defect. Haha, joke is on you. It is not.

Fast forward to getting kidnapped with her dog and waking up on an alien spaceship. And behold, the dog has turned into a really hot, albeit weird looking, cyborg. And she really wants to touch him. Basically she does fall for her dog then.

But oh no! Her doggie turned hottie is a dangerous war machine and the aliens wants to kill him.

Weird yes, good yes that too. And I mean she already loves that dog, so it is easy to love the man too. The whole from egg to doggie to man is explained.

It is a romance so they will get a happy ending, but there is some danger before them before that.

Good narration. Distinct voices and she kept a fun tone through out it all.

The creativity in this book is 🔥! I read a lot but I've never read anything close to this one. Yes he hatches from what the FMC thinks is a pumpkin, to a weird dog creature, & eventually into his final baddie adaptation- & kicks some serious bad guy butt.

It was sweet (he takes care of her, even when she doesn't know it) yet also hilarious with culture clashes & his animalistic nature, as well as spicy with a v!rg!n MMC who's down to learn it all, tho a little hesitant to show her what he's packing at first (a hella fancy & venomous 🍆). Don't worry she convinces him that she's up for the challenge lol. He's a scary beast, a naive alien, & sexy AF male all rolled into one. Sigh. I want one.

This entire series is like putting sunshine straight in my veins, such a feel good & exciting adventure. Reminiscent of Ruby Dixon's Risdaverse- short but so entertaining. Life's short, read whatever you want!

What a strange book. Such a wild ride. A pumpkin that a little girl gets turns into a dog that she then grows up with, and 10 years later they both get abducted by aliens. Then the dog turns into a cyborg man on a ghost ship... and it's a romance between the girl and what for most of her life was her dog. I legit could not get past that. However, it reached a point after the ship aspect was over in which the plot not only got way better, but I started to feel more detached from the nasty "dog beastiality" of it all. I think the second half of the book was way better than the beginning, and honestly this would have been a fantastic read if it was more simplistic. I'll give the author this though: the book makes for an excellent talking point in book-related liveshows and among friends. I don't know if I would recommend this or not... maybe just if you're really curious.

This was certainly a unique Halloween story, it starts out with the heroine as a child picking out a weird mini pumpkin at a pumpkin patch and as she grows up it evolves into many forms before becoming her alien dog cyborg boyfriend! 😂 I really enjoyed the beginning with her childhood, it was very cute and fun as she grew up and her fuzzy dog keeps other men away from her. It slowed considerably once they get onboard a spaceship, there's a lot of futuristic stuff and running around trying to figure stuff out. I skimmed through to find the romance and naughty parts.
Pumpkin the dog man has 3 tails and 3... other things that are prehensile and can either twine together as one big thing or go 3 places at once! I found that very intriguing. There's not very much smut but what is there is worth the read.

A fun, weird, kind of silly but still heartwarming quirky romance!

A Sweet and Steamy Treat!

“I’ve always loved you, Cassy,” he said sincerely. “In an ever-growing way.”

My Pumpkin is the best parts of a fantasy and SciFi romance, and Marina Simcoe is the perfect author to combine these genres. To take a character from childhood to adulthood takes a special talent.

I was excited to watch Cassy, as she took care of her unusual pet, Pumpkin, and was even more thrilled as he morphed into an important person in her life. Through distance and disaster, love grew from one level to another, and it was done so in a fun way-even though the circumstances were strange.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Simcoe’s My Pumpkin, as I do all of her books, but this was a perfect slice of pie -not pumpkin- lol for any time of year!

Recomendadisimo!

I found this book after a recommendation from a reader group for a good mix of light hearted paranormal/fantasy/scifi romantic comedy and I think this series has it for me!

I didn't really know what to expect when I started this book but I quickly became immersed and I appreciated the twist in having an alien pet that turns into...something else. I loved that we got to follow along as they grew up and their adventures after they learned the truth. It has spice, adventure, romance, and humor. Definitely hits all my checkboxes lately and I whole heartedly recommend picking it up.

Going to be reading the other books to be sure that this series is for me. ;)

4.2 out of 5 rating for me!

I am so happy that I stumbled upon this author not long ago, I have quickly consumed, if not all, most of her books in a very short time. This book can be read as a stand alone, but is a part of a longer series of short, holiday themed paranormal sci-fi romances. 2.5/5 for steam and 4/5 for romance. I enjoyed Maxx and his… 3 tails…
The MC was enjoyable, I was never annoyed with her, she was written to be likable. They had great chemistry with each other, and the story never felt boring or rushed.
Highly recommend for someone looking for a shorter, somewhat holiday themed, Sci-fi romance read.

This book was absolutely fantastic and I was absolutely enthralled from the beginning to the end! If you like excellent writing, a well-developed plot, and complicated characters that step outside the typical romance trope lines, then this book is for you. There is plenty of action, suspense and the romance between Maxx and Cass was sexy and exciting. I'm a sucker for epilogues and enjoyed the peek into their future This was such a great story and this was my first time reading this author and will look forward to reading more!.

This book turned a strange concept into one that was somewhat sane. The story had a stronger first half, then faltered. It was cute overall. The development of the spaceship happenings and strangeness was done well, especially the holographic alien person that was tasked with returning Pumpkin, but it took a more bland turn of events overall. I think they should've stuck with the spaceship as the main setting and challenges, vs. where the latter end of the book ended up, with led to dryer events. The conclusion, while happy, was also bland and not exciting to the point where it could've just been left out.

I’m not sure how to rate this book. It was very… unique. Essentially a “pumpkin” alien egg was sent to earth harboring a deadly militant cyborg AI. However, when it hatched it was raised by a little girl as a deformed dog. When they both were grown he developed human characteristics, but not completely human anatomy. Their love then escalated into more than pet/owner and they developed a romantic relationship. Did she groom him (pun intended)? Is this beastiality? Changing his name from Pumpkin to Maxx helps distance him from being her pet, but she still used the pet name sometimes and that made me uncomfortable. This was a weird one that will probably stick with me for a while. 🥴

No,no,no

Suspended disbelief can only go so far even when reading fantasy . So at ten yrs old the FMC finds a pumpkin shaped object, takes it home, after a bit it hatches, and is a 3 failed long clawed anomaly that the vet barely raised a brow at, ten yrs later she and the DOG are kidnapped in the park and after a series of WTF's she finds her dog who can now talk and tells her he's like a cyborg. UMM...no, This is where I stopped with a mental headache. Has to be one of the most ridiculous storylines I've ever heard of.
