Liddy and Freed have finally completed their engagement ceremony and are officially betrothed. But soon, Freed is called off to battle, leaving his beloved fiancée behind. He hasn't been gone long when Liddy stumbles upon an injured man in desperate need of help. But this isn’t any ordinary man – he’s a desert assassin suffering from a curse! Will Liddy be able to save his life? Or rather, should she?
One thing I can say for the Steamship line (apart from "it's about time someone did this") is that a large number of their fantasy titles are surprisingly cute for raunchy romances.
Apparently this is that last volume in this series and the story continues in a sequel series called I’ll Never Be Your Crown Princess! Betrothed. I’m thinking of not buying it because while it started off good, I don’t feel as strongly of this series now. So I might either read those volumes on apps if they’re available or the novel that this series is based on/adapted from, it’s got over 460 chapters. I don’t like the cover art of the novel, the manga art is more beautiful, so they got a really good artist to work on this series.
I liked the new character who introduced here, he seems interesting and if Freed ever finds out about him, he’s going to be so jealous😂 I also enjoyed Liddy’s little adventure to and at Ms. Derris’ place (love her and I’m glad we got to see her again) but it wasn’t anything amazing and I was hoping for some resisting from Liddy but vol. 2 showed that that was only for vol. 1. I enjoy it when the girl (or boy if it’s yaoi/bl) doesn’t accept right away and keeps resisting, is hard to get. But Liddy accepted her situation too quickly, which I know is the more mature thing to do and she didn’t exactly have a choice but it would have made for a more enjoyable story, at least to me it would have. That’s part of why I’m not sure about reading the sequel series or at least buying those volumes. I also wanted more steam but there was barely any in this volume.
Throughout this volume, I forgot that Freed went off to war. It felt like the author just wanted an excuse to have Liddy do some stuff on her own and also so that there can be a happy, emotional reunion, except it wasn’t emotional because this volume didn’t really show much about how it affected her, they did once but that was a 2 or 3 page flashback. It just didn’t feel like loved ones had gone off to war and like I said, I forgot about it until she mentioned it a few times.
I do like that Liddy is not afraid to give someone a piece of her mind when the situation calls for it. I also like that Freed is a different person with Liddy, it shows how special she is to him. Still, throughout these 3 volumes, we didn’t see a lot on their relationship, there isn’t much development, I don’t think they have even known each other for that long yet. I just don’t feel much for them as a couple.
It was fun but a little dull compared to the first two. The story arc wasn’t as exciting as the synopsis hinted at it being. There are open-ended pieces, and I'm looking forward to those being continued in the following book.
There are a few moments where it seems like Liddy may be starting to realize she's growing attached to Prince Freed if nothing else, but all in all, she's still firmly in denial when it comes to her own emotions. Her actions really do paint a rather touching picture to those around her though, especially when they see the two of them together, which seems to please the prince immensely. He's already proven a bit possessive and jealous when he learns of Will being childhood friends with Liddy, even though he himself is also good friends with both Will and his brother, so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to Cain. Liddy seems to be good at getting herself into some rather unusual circumstances, though at least it seems she's also learning how to stand and accept her new position given the way she handles things in the market.

Disappointed in this volume. It tried to shoehorn in a bunch of subplots all at once, which weakened each of them, the worldbuilding, and the character development. I still really like Liddy, and Freed is growing on me, though I feel like the pluck that drew me to Liddy in the first place is getting replaced by the 'she's an airhead princess' thing. I also like Ms. Derris and am glad she's sticking around, but again, don't think the story was actually helped by getting several big plot things all introduced rapid-fire.
And a Steamship volume with no steam? Disappointing.
I'm not really sure how I feel about the random ninja but overall the story is coming along in a positive direction. I feel like their relationship is becoming more healthy and less icky. I also like the fact that they're pushing along more story beats so that there's more going on than just the light romance. I am looking forward to seeing where things go, I hope it develops the world more and has more interesting political stuff in the future.
Actual 3.5 - Ugh, this volume was REALLY LONG and if I’m being completely honest, the story hasn’t been going anywhere for a while. LOVED volume 1 but volumes 2 & 3 have been stagnant and pretty unimpressive. I think I’ll give it one more volume because they set a lot up in this last story, but I may not continue if it doesn’t pick up. I can only read her denying her feelings for so long 😬
What happened the the level headed yet rebellious princess? She is just excepting everything now? Disappointed in her. Hope the next book is a little more lively. Would love to see the ninja add something to the story.
This volume was all over the place. Suddenly we’re introducing a new “ninja” character as a romance rival (…?). I guess the sequel series picks up immediately where this leaves off, so I’ll give at least 1 volume of that a shot because this one doesn’t actually… conclude.
I wish this didn't end on a cliffhanger. I didn't realize that they only made this to promote the novel, and it wasn't intended to be a complete manga.
Little less romance in this one. I very much enjoyed the introduction of a new Character. I Can't wait to read the next one! The series is forming a rather great story so far
I honestly feel like this story should have been more than 3 volumes to properly develop the characters and the growing feelings between Liddy and Freed. I know there's a part 2 series, but part 1 really should have been better developed.
i enjoyed this volume even though it was a steamship with no spice i love that the witch is still here and im interested to see where the plot with cain will go and liddys unexplained magic
