The Other Wolf #3

Saviour of the Pack

Rate this book
My mum told me I could be anything I wanted to be – and it turns out that I want to be an alpha werewolf. I’m finally starting to get a hang of this alpha malarkey when destiny sticks her oar in once again.

There’s a prophecy about me, and it’s time for me to find out what it says. So when my best friend Jess cooks up a hare-brained scheme to get hold of the prophecy through fair means or foul, I’m along for the ride before you can say ‘bail money’.

Getting my wolfy paws on the prophecy is only the beginning, though, because I’m not the only one aware of its existence. Some of my enemies will stop at nothing to prevent the prophecy from coming true. I’ve a battle on my hands, so it’s lucky that I have super soldier Greg Manners by my side.

I’m a pretty chilled-out alpha, but when unknown wolves slink onto my land and attack my unicorn, all bets are off. No one attacks my murderous little Ares and gets away with it.

Beckett Frost is coming my way with vengeance in mind; the black witch is still free, ready to steal powers and destroy lives; I have enemies piling up around me – so I do what any girl would do and call in my family, my weirdly Other birth family. I need allies, and fast, because war is coming to Home Counties Pack whether we’re ready or not.

Luckily, Esme was born ready.

Bring it on.

Another phenomenal story from The Other Realm, The Other Wolf series, I can't explain the joy I've had from reading these books so far and I'm still on the journey!

I cried with this one, short lived tears but I cried! When an author can bring out emotions, you know it's a great read... I can't wait to open the next book ❤️

Okay, honestly, this spin-off series with Lucy was awwwwwwesome, and I could not put it down.

If I had any quibble, it's that I feel like the twist about who is betraying the pack was telegraphed too much - I knew who it was waaaaay early - which made Lucy and Greg seem slow on the uptake. But I don't even care, I loved the series. I loved the journey, the characters, all of it. I hope we get more with Lucy, honestly, because it feels like there's a lot more story to tell after where this book lands.

Well holy moly macarolly! Starting off with fur, teeth and blood flying is certainly holy moly! Adrenaline pumping through me! This book took firm hold of me from the beginning, sinking it's hooks into me, bringing forth shocking revelations, SERIOUSLY shocking revelations, that once more Lucy had to absorb, had to wrap her mind around, had to adjust. Which, because she's so NICE and so genuine, she does with aplomb! Lucy has come a long way from her near death situation, she's embraced her role as Alpha, not easy when most of the pack eyes her with suspicion, but gosh is she resilient! Gosh is she caring! Gosh is she cool! Not only gorgeous in appearance but in her very core, she oozes loveability, kindness and an incredibly sharp mind. She continued to astound me with her compassion, her capacity to love and her evolving confidence and capability. Her love interest, Manners, well glory be.... yummy, considerate, ultra protective, ultra smooth, hells bells, nothing can shake his resolve when it comes to Lucy's wellbeing. I'm kinda in love with him....

There were some real tear jerker scenes, gutting me as though someone had rammed a blade through my stomach, where I bawled like a baby! Another scene towards the end had me crying for an entirely different reason! When the going got tough for Lucy, the tough got firmly behind her. And one revelation, well heck, THAT stopped my brain from functioning for a few seconds, I literally had to shake it to clear the shock! So many unexpected occurrences blew my mind! I wish I could tell you but I can't.... just know this, not everyone is who they appear to be, not everything that's packed with a bow or smile is an actual gift... This author is a master concealer, a master at laying down red herrings, completely befluxing me. If someone had slammed me into a tree, I doubt I would have been as breathless as I was reading this book!

Although all the characters felt like friends, there are some I feel a special something for, besides Lucy and Manners, who are the dream duo of characters, notably Amber and Esme. Amber who hides behind a solid stoic facade, but I see and feel the cracks in her self imposed armour and the friendship that blooms between her and Lucy fills me with warmth. Emse is simply stunning and hilarious, her trying to wrap her woolfy brain around "human phrases" are delightfully comical. She's one fierce wolf though, through all her comical banter, she would do anything for Lucy, stop anyone who even thinks of harming her.

There is much contained within these pages, the action, the beauty of friendship, a beautiful romance that's just so RIGHT, acceptance, loyalty, family found and existing and a heck of a lot more! This intricately woven plot, as tight as a well plaited braid, unravels slowly as the braid and I are subjected to a gale force wind that leaves NO stone unturned! The storytelling by this incredible author cannot be more compelling nor immersive. Her prose, her vocabulary and writing style is sheer perfection, I've even discovered a new word which just works, "grulky" (grumpy and sulky) Come on over to the Other and begin a journey you won't want to end!

What a binge reading series this was. Time travel, magical characters galore, action, and the answers to a lot of mystery rounded off this storyline beautifully. As stated before I enjoyed reconnecting to cross over characters. The reveal of the identity of the black witch was a shocker. Do not miss out on reading this series along with The other Realm. Well done Heather.

The ending!!! Did Heather REALLY end this book with THAT ending?!? Nooo! I loved this book, of course! Enjoyed how action-packed it was and tied up a lot of loose threads! Piper getting to hang with her family AND Jinx! Woot! I am eagerly waiting for the next book in this series!

I can’t believe that this is the last book with Esme, Lucy, Greg, and so many other characters. I have enjoyed this series so very much. Anyway, this last book in the series is filled with so many things including a betrayal (I suspected!!), time travel, a prophecy, and so much more. From the time I started this novel until I finished, I was held captive with these wonderful characters not wanting to put this book down. I laughed, I cried, and I’m left wanting to see more of this universe. I’m looking forward to the next series, and I am so glad I discovered this author. Great conclusion to a great series! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Ok, so this last book in Lucy's story wasn't bad, but I'm not going to pretend there wasn't some hard core eye rolling going on as I read it.

As much as I didn't like aspects of these last three books, they were simple and fun and if you've read "the other realm" series, and liked it, I'd give these ones a go with the understanding that Lucy, the MFC, is a little annoying at times.

To say I was ecstatic to receive an advanced readers copy of this book is an understatement! I read this book so fast without even realizing it! I literally lost sleep over it and I have zero regrets!

This is the third book in the pack series and I will be irritate if miss Heather Harris doesn’t continue. The pitchforks will come Heather, lol (inside joke)! There are so many twist and turns in this book I didn’t know which way was up!

I don’t know how Heather Harris did it without it seeming disheveled. The major thing for Lucy is solving the mystery of her prophecy that led to her parents death. In the midst of this Lucy hasn’t forgotten the gargoyles curse. Even more pressing, Lucy hasn’t given up on finding out who the black witch is. When I say my jaw hit the floor on that one I’m not joking! Thankfully Lucy has support, such as her second in command/ boyfriend mister manners himself, Greg. Heather Harris continues to make me swoon and occasionally blush with their relationship, along with cheering from time to time.

I don’t know how Lucy keeps it all together. She was almost killed by her succubus of a boyfriend before she even knew the other existed. She had to kill the previous alpha to protect the pack from what would have been a horrible alpha. She’s exhausting herself physically and mentally 24/7 trying to gain the packs trust while learning who she can rely on. All the while learning the in’s and out’s of the Other herself. Her major skill she’s trying to master is her piping. It’s exhausting just to think about it. But somehow Heather Harris still makes Lucy a pure and loving soul that just wants to help without being cheesy or cringe.

That’s the thing about Heather Harris’s writing, it’s smooth. What do I mean by that? I find myself flowing along with events, characters, world building, etc. so vividly I can see it! I can even feel it! It just comes naturally and that’s nothing to brush off!

My favorite parts are the twists and turns. One minute I think I know what’s going to happen and then nope, something completely different. Another moment I’m minding my own business just reading along and then wham! Shocker out of nowhere! Heather Harris is tricky like that and I am here for every word of it!

It’s not all serious though. There were plenty of literal laugh out loud moments for me, especially between Lucy and Esme. I cannot get enough of them. Lucy becoming awkward every time Esme makes suggestions about her relationship with Greg. Esme not understanding our sayings and traditions. There’s literally never a dull moment with those two.

There’s plenty more I could say but I digress. Now what are you waiting for? Off you go!

"Saviour of the Pack" was a tedious read for me. For one thing I am so sick of stories that basically steal aspects from Harry Potter such as locating prophecy balls stored in some werehouse. This is the second book that I've read that has stolen this description from HP. The other thing that I found tedious about this story was the plot was pretty contrived.

One positive aspect I will say about the read is that I didn't have a clue about the deceit from one of the characters that I really liked. I am always impressed when an author manages to pull the wool over my eyes on aspects of a plot; so, this was a nice twist. However, I am not sure whether I want to continue on with this series. It reads a little too much YA/New Adult for me.

I will just wait and see what the future holds.

“We don’t get to choose our problems bitey-pup – though we can choose what we do about them.”

I don’t think I’ll ever run out of wonderful things to say about this world!🤍

We finally seeing Lucy and the pack coming together, and it was nice to see everyone kind of getting into the groove of things. But with a rival pack threatening war on your doorstep, a mysterious dark witch lurking around, and a world changing prophecy hanging in the air - you have to guess that this joy won’t last long.

While the whole series was great, WOW - this was the best by far. Action-packed with so many twists and turns (truly didn’t see the big bad coming), it was definitely another great ending to another great series by Heather!

I’m also so happy to hear that we’re going to get more books about Jinx and Emory, which will hopefully lead to even more books about Lucy! Thank you Heather for offering me all of these ARCs in exchange for an honest review. Your world has grown to mean so much to me, and I can’t wait for me.🤍

Wow! Wow, wow, WOW!! I just finished this book, and it was a crazy rollercoaster ride with some really unforeseen twists. I was doing a beta read of an ARC copy, looking for errors, and when it came to the last six chapters, I was reading so fast and intently that I wasn’t paying attention to typing details at all! This third book in the Lucy series continues the search for a solution to the gargoyles’ curse, and well as trying to find the black witch who kidnapped the children, and let me just say, you will not believe who THAT ends up being! And that was just one of the amazing twists. A lot of situations and questions were resolved in this book, in a very satisfactory way. Lucy and Greg’s relationship continues to grow, Jinx and Emory make a guest appearance, Lucy’s pack continues to expand, and we find out the meaning of the prophecy that led to her parents’ death. This was an exciting and fulfilling read.

Lucy, her pack and friends are trying to find and understand a prophecy, get information on her birth family, try to cure a 200-year-old curse and fight an evil pack leader and a black witch.
There is a lot happening in this book but everything goes so smoothly. There are a multitude of different characters – werewolves, witches, gargoyles, a unicorn, dryads (who have a bit of a surprise), vampyres, dragon and there are great interactions between all. There is also some time travelling.
Again, this is an easy, fast read. I have read both books 2 and 3 today. It doesn’t seem like it’s taking very long to complete them, that’s how much I’ve enjoyed them.
Book 4 doesn’t come out until Sept 2024 but since these three books were set between The Other Realm books 4 and 5, I’m all set for my next read.

I really liked this series! I have listened to all of Jess' story and this one with Lucy has been really enjoyable. Each book has a worthy adventure and Lucy has proved herself as Queen. I particularly enjoyed the death of Alpha Rain! 😂
Next is the witchy books!

Book 3 of the series starts with the long awaited tourney and a reorganisation of the pack, and at the start, we get to see Tristan handed the proverbial by Greg after Tristan stupidly challenges him for second.
Things have changed a lot for Lucy and the Pack by book 3, with several additions to the pack, Ares the Unicorn guarding the property, and biggest of all, she has found out that she was once an elemental, Lucinda Alessandro, before she was extinguished by her Vampyr relative to save her life after someone killed her Mother and Father and tried to kill her. She has also learnt she is part of a prophecy, and at the start of this book, her and Jess (her best friend, Jess ‘Jinx’ Sharp, private eye extraordinaire and seriously deadly Wizard), are going to go and find out what it is.
Things don’t go quite as planned though, Plan A doesn’t work (when do they ever for these two?), and so they go to Plan B. This sees Jess and Lucy (along with some others), moving into the past (I’m not giving any spoilers).
Things in this book only pick up from there, as the crazed Alpha Beckett Frost is still hellbent on coming after Lucy and killing her to take over her pack, take what he wants and kill the rest. Added to this, Lucy has the added burden of still finding the Black Witch who was responsible for abducting the children as she was never found. She also needs to work out how to break the curse of the Gargoyles.
All that, whilst managing her pack – so not that much to do…
I really don’t want to give anything away for this book, there is so much that happens, but any discussion is just going to give spoilers. Needless to say, this is a full-on, action-packed and climactic book in which Harris not only wraps up all of the threads that have been created in this series so far, but does it in a way that will leave you flipping pages so fast, you will feel a breeze on your face. And you will need it, from the combination of brutal, ferocious fights, to gut-wrenching scenes that leave you reaching for tissues, to lines that have you crying in absolute hysterics they are so funny (this is not an audiobook to ever listen to in a public place!!!) It is an exceptional journey, as we follow Lucy, Greg and the Pack, as well as multiple other characters, new and old, on what is a enthralling and extraordinary thrill-ride to see what becomes of this outstanding Woman and her Werewolf Pack.
The character work continues to be brilliant in this book (series), Harris is gifted and incredibly gifted in creating this characters that you just fall in love with, they become part of your life and you just want to know more about them. Lucy is this exceptional young woman, whilst she is beautiful, she is incredibly grounded, at times even unsure of herself, and without the support of her right hand Greg, or her wolf Esme, she might stumble in parts under the sheer stress of everything she is trying to cope with. But with their support, she is an absolute powerhouse. Greg is just brilliant, he continues to be hilarious and unstoppable as he was in ‘The Other’ series. Perhaps the funniest part of this series though, has always been Esme. Her one liners, her continuous blood thirsty nature, and utter love for Lucy make her completely lovable – everyone needs an Esme in life.
This is an outstanding final book in this trilogy, one of the best third books in a series I have read for a long time, and an absolute must read for any fan of the series. Hopefully there will be another series as Lucy, Esme and their Pack are just Brilliant!!

Well I finished this book at 1 am on a Sunday evening and what a great final installment to Lucy's story (for now!) wrapping up all the questions in such a satisfying way. With this author you get non-stop intrigue. Every scene is of major interest. I find myself thinking, "Oh! We get to do that now!?" In Saviour of the Pack, you get all the excitement, twists and turns you will have come to expect from Heather's books, questions about prophecies and curses answered, and even a Jinx and Emory cameo! So, if you haven't started yet, just get ready to binge the series all at once.

OH MY FREAKING GOD, WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!! Okay I'll tell you what happened, Ms Harris literally just broke me is what happened. Oh I knew this book was gonna be rough on the old emotions but even I wasn't prepared for this. The sheer brilliance in the writing watching everything coming together, the heart stopping moments where I could see Heather epically dropping that damn mic again and again, with barely time to catch my breath in between. Yes she kept me on my toes for sure, like a cat on a hot tin roof and it was absolutely PHENOMENAL. I seriously can't tell you just how much I've fallen in love with these books, the characters and the beautifully crafted world that this author has effortlessly created, making it not only a breathtaking experience to read but feels so very real. I've said it before and I'll say it again this author is a genius.

After discovering there is a prophecy made about her, Lucy knows she needs to get her paws on it and pronto. Luckily her best friend Jess is on the case to help her get it by any means possible, before her enemies can prevent it from coming true. With a black witch on the loose, and the Alpha of the Devon pack gunning for her, Lucy's enemy list is growing faster than Esme can shake her tail. Knowing that she needs more allies and fast, Lucy turns to her newly found 'Other' family to stand along side her and her pack. Because now war is coming, and it's time to fight back!

Lucy has definitely become one of my favourite characters who I adore beyond measure. My sunshine girl literally has resilience in spades, yes she is one of the most kindhearted characters I've read but she's definitely learning not to pull her punches, especially when it comes to her pack. Once again she is being tested to prove she is strong enough as alpha to lead the pack against her enemies, who think she is weak and totally underestimate just how fierce she can be. Her relationship with Greg is steadfastly strong, with him being the support she needs without being overbearing, and watching their interactions along with their banter just makes me giddy every time. I also love her and Esme's connection as each of them bring their own unique skills to the table making them the perfect alpha in my eyes.

With so many of my favourite characters turning up in this book I found it hard to 'pick' which ones to feature in this review as I not only nearly burst with excitement of having them all, but because I love so many of them now. Jinx turning up is always cause for celebration in my book as I adore her and Lucy's close bond, but when they decide to let their hair down and get drunk with a sober Greg baring witness to the aftermath I was howling with laughter (pun intended). Reynard who is just too cute for words, is in top form with his foul but funny language and I can't help but love every appearance he makes, yep I totally adore this witty little gargoyle. Amber proved in this one what I already knew about this sassy witch, that underneath her stern cutting remarks she has a ooey gooey centre and I couldn't love her more for it (dying to get to her story). I literally swooned at Emory's entrance, the utterly charming dragon still makes my heart skip a beat. And finally Bastion, my totally gorgeous enigma of a griffin who gives more questions than answers every time I see him, being all protective and tender with Amber making my freaking heart melt all over again. Damn he's gonna kill me for sure.

With each of these books getting better and better my excitement for the next is building to epic proportions. As I'm reading these in the order the author intended it looks like I'm off to see what's in store for Jinx next and I can't wait. It's an addictive read that I can't get enough of. Highly recommend 😁

For some reason I’m still finding the wolf branch of this overall series a bit more problematic. The time travel piece was very unsettling and made zero sense to me because while I can suspend my disbelief and get behind a lot of time travel scenes, this one was way off. Alessandro turned himself into a vampire? Are you high? There is no way that even makes sense, none! There is zero way for vampirism to have been introduced here unless an actual vampire was interjected into the equation, right? There is no way it happened like that, it was not well done here at all. The other time traveling before she went with Alessandro was also problematic, honestly, although I’m forgetting why that was, only that I recall thinking that first trip was not as clever as past time travel trips were. With the first time travel, the way Lucy just left Manners and ran off with Jess? Gross. And then when he was there when Lucy and Jess returned and there was no fallout or argument about her being so disrespectful and disregarding how that hurt him.? This was a perfect opportunity for the author to show the reader our couple is a building a relationship, a partnership, don’t just run off. Yet she just up and left later in the book as well, which was only slightly better as Manners had to call her and ask if she was being kidnapped. I don’t feel like Lucy really seems to place value on Manners and his loyalty, support, or love. Also, there is a power dynamic here that needs to be tended carefully since she’s the alpha.

I can appreciate the way we learned about the mole amongst Lucy’s pack, and this book would have gotten a higher rating from me because of the feelings elicited while I read, but I still don’t feel a connection between Manners and Lucy like I do with most of the other creatures Lucy interacts with in the book. Hell, I think Lucy and Bastion as a couple makes more sense that Lucy and Manners for the way the author is writing them. Just spend a bit more time building that connection, it shouldn’t take much since we finally see Amber coming around and softening to everyone around her. We see Lucy and her birth family interact more lovingly than we see Lucy and Manners. I don’t need to see their bedroom time, I just need more than him calling her peaches or sweetheart or love. Manners called Jess Toots, and I felt like we saw more warmth between THEM than I see now. I don’t understand why we can’t be privy to this supposed love Lucy and Manners have!

Enough of the romance aspect, I really enjoyed how this 3-book overall arc played out, it was quite interesting and heartbreaking at times. Even if the author inserted questionable scenarios or time travel to get everything neatly explained. Lastly, the way the author deals with grief is really heartwarming and I very much appreciate the reverence paid to loss in spite of the urban fantasy genre which usually has a lot of death in it. It’s the attention paid to our main characters (‘the good guys’) and their grief that is something special.

Oh, I guess I have one more comment I need to make. The author does neatly explain the entire Lucy alpha/queen and why Wilf was killed. I don’t think it was overdone, it made sense to me and helped quell my annoyance at Wilf being killed.

If you haven't read the previous books, STOP! Go back and read them first.

This book opens with the final round of the pack tournament for ranking. This battle is between Tristan and Greg. It seems Greg is playing with Tristan and Lucy just wants it over. Of course, Greg wins and remains her second.

Two lone wolves had petitioned the pack to join, and now one of them is in her top 13, Finley March placed 9th and Daniella Hardcrest 14th. They would both be living in the mansion so hopefully she could get to know them quickly.

The only one not competing is Thea, she still hasn't been accepted into the pack. Thea can't shift, and Amber has been working with potions to possibly get her wolf back. So far, they've been unsuccessful. Her brother Beckett Frost the Alpha of the Devon pack isn't going to let her go easily but for now she's a guest here.

In the last book Lucy found out about her birth parents and learned she would have been a fire element other. Her grandfather had her magic extinguished to keep her safe and she was adopted and raised in the common. She still has reached out to the family, it's pretty hard to come to terms with everything.

The black witch who was part of the kidnapping syndicate is still out there and children wouldn't be safe until she's caught. The one clue turquoise nail polish has come to a dead end.

Lucy also needs to read the prophesy written about her. The problem is the security around where she needs to go. Fortunately, Jess has found a very tight window for them to get it. They don't want to know alert the Connection about Lucy's heritage. Especially since her parents' death hadn't been an accident. When Jess' plan A fails they go with plan B and Nate and Gato show up in the prophesy room.

Back in their own time, they get to the car to find a grumpy Greg had joined Tom.

They spend the night with Jess/Jinx, and the next day travel home. On arrival they find that Ares, their unicorn has been attacked and Mrs. Dawes knows some healing runes taught to her by her friend Amber Jane. It's forbidden so it must be kept a secret, and Mrs. Dawes learns Lucy is a piper. These are both important things.

We see a reunion, and the words of the curse steadily come true. This is truly an action-packed, suspenseful, romantic and stunning finale.

I am looking forward to reading the next series in this world.

Heather's Notes
So I liked this book ok. I don't think Lucy is ever going to be my favorite character, but she is growing on me. I do like Esme and Aries (I am glad he made it - killing a unicorn is just wrong). However, this book also made me question on the world works. If a human can live inside common and "other" why does the wolf die in common. Also how do you recharge you magic in common, when "other" is the magic world. Shouldn't the wolf be kicked back to "other" just like the human is kicked to common. Also is Noah even a werewolf anymore since his wolf died? Does he get a new wolf? That doesn't seem quite right. I don't think the author thought that through. Also I totally called Ms. Doors being the traitor, that was very obvious really early on. In fact, I actually felt like it should have happened in one of the earlier books. I have a hard time believing no one else caught it.

Lucy’s been fighting tooth and nail since she became the alpha of the Home Counties Pack, and slowly but surely the pack has been warming to her. But the threat presented by Frost and his wolves hangs over their heads, and soon their packs will clash, whether Lucy wants to or not! And, of course, there’s the little bitty issue of the MASSIVE prophecy that hangs over her head. No biggie, right? If only it weren’t for the black witch (still unrevealed), Forst’s wolves (nipping at her heels), and the gargoyles (what little rays of sunshine).

With Greg Manners, Lucy’s Beta and mate (finally!), as well as her wolf Esme, Lucy needs to figure out how to survive the coming onslaught, with nothing to worry about.

Loyalties will be tested, betrayal will be revealed, and suddenly the fact that “gargoyles are made, not born” becomes all too clear as Lucy races to end the gargoyle’s curse, unit her pack’s humans with their wolves, and tries to figure out what this blamed prophecy means!

Steamy, funny, intelligent, exciting, and with more twists than a bowl of spaghetti, this third novel in the "Other Realm" sister series, “The Other Wolf” is one I highly recommend. This is a phenomenal book that is incredibly fun, witty, and just the right bit of seductive! Beautifully narrated, engaging, and something that simply cannot be put down/put on pause, this is a must-listen for any Urban Fantasy reader! Enjoy!

I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was yet another great read in this series! Lucy is now firmly in her role as the alpha of the Home Counties pack, but it is not without its problems. Beckett Frost is making his move against her again, but this time there seems to be no holds barred at all. Leaving bodies last time was bad enough, but now they have taken a step further and have attacked a member of the pack. Lucy must rally her pack together to defeat him, but there's more to what's going on than just Beckett Frost. Someone else is betraying Lucy from within!

On a positive note, Lucy manages to get hold of the prophecy about her and some of that was a surprise. She has a challenging future ahead of her now! And finally she has her blood family who cannot wait to meet and get to know her, even though she is trying so hard to avoid that first difficult meeting.

Lucy doesn't seem to realise sometimes how much everyone loves and respects her and only when everyone comes together to help her in the final showdown, does she understand that these people will do anything for her. She is definitely one lucky lady wolf!

I loved Lucy in this one - she is growing so much as the alpha, making tough, yet right, decisions for her pack as much as they may sometimes hurt her! Her relationship with Greg is definitely heating up more and more and I love how these two interact with each others as lovers and as alpha and second! It was great to read about some returning characters too - Jess and Emory, Bastion and Amber.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series now!

This novel turned out to be such a disappointment. Yes, the story continues and it's as exciting and action-packed as ever. However, the author decided to add some new information on the world-building front that became inconsistent with what had come before and all the little niggling "oh, but that doesn't work anymore" issues that kept cropping up afterwards just made this one less enjoyable to read.

I'm glad Lucy found her birth family and resolved that issue. I'm also glad the black witch from the previous volume was discovered and the twist on her identity was quite a surprise. The mystery elements are well thought out as usual.

I didn't like how Greg Manners practically disappeared in the battles. That part made no sense considering his backstory, especially when he could be support to Lucy/Esme's awesomeness. And Lucy's backstory with Renard that comes out in this volume ended up cementing the massive worldbuilding inconsistency I mentioned previously.

So yeah, unfortunately this volume is not as streamlined as the previous parts of this series. I don't know if I'll continue when the other planned books come out in the Other Wolf series, as I can't see how the author can fix this jarring disconnect from the first book in this series. However, I am curious to give the witch series a try. I've always liked Amber's character, so maybe I'll find less issue there, since the worldbuilding snafu is linked to the werewolves and Lucy's storyline particularly.

I was lucky enough to get an advanced reader copy of this book, which was brilliant news, as it stopped me gnawing my own arm off, waiting for the conclusion of this amazing series.

The stakes haven't stopped mounting for Lucy, accountant-turned-werewolf-Alpha, and her wold-side Esme. Now, the final roll of the dice means the difference between saving her friends, or the destruction of everything she's worked for.

If you've read Heather G Harris you know what's in store (and if you haven't, what on earh are you doing? Go do so immediately!). Her prose is electric, her pacing perfect, with story that zips along and mysteries that you need to know the answer to. Expect to find yourself thinking you'll just read one more page, one more chapter, till the whole book is devoured.

There's only one downside to reading this book. It means your up-to-dare with all the stories of the Other Realm, and you, like me, have to wait for the next series to drop. Luckily, the wait shouldn't be too long, and whatever Heather G Harris writes, you can guarantee it will be the embodiment of fast-paced, fun urban fantasy. Get yourself up to date and get hyped up for the wait for the next release!

Lucy is the most airheaded alpha ever

I’m not quite sure how authors do this but they give us a character whose supposed to give off the vibe of strong, smart and confident but then they have them do all these little things that accumulate to them being portrayed as a weaker less intelligent version of that.

Lucy, since book 1, has ignored or dismissed so many obvious signs of things right in front of her face. She either says she doesn’t have time to look into or that she will later but never does. She taught Esme the quote about procrastinating being the biggest thief, yet she procrastinated on looking into so many things, especially related to her pack and the pack house.

She constantly left the pack house unguarded and the weaker members vulnerable to attack, running off to do stuff without letting people know or putting someone in charge knowing the pack house kept getting unwanted aggressive guests and attacks. But in all of this, we are supposed to think she was doing a good job just because she completed the big objective, which was to break the curse. But her main job and title was ALPHA and she wasn’t behaving like a good one.

See my notes and highlights on Goodreads. Happy reading.
