Standing at the Gate
A year and a half has passed since the defeat of Charlottesville. The idea of an actual future is starting to take root among the survivors.
Jason and Rachel have found a semblance of peace with a family. Pro has found a calling and Pavel has found a place to call home. A dangerous enemy, flying the Stars and Stripes from across the Appalachians has turned their attention to Potomac and everything the survivors have built.

The conclusion (for now).
The group have carved out a little safety for themselves, they are forming alliances with other groups of survivors. and things seem to be looking up.
But a new threat has arrived in a warlord who rules by fear.
This series started as a side project for the author but it proved popular and what was supposed to be one book became three. I love the series and its sad that he is shelving it until he finishes his other series. But hopefully more books set in this world pop up in the future.

This is what they call “edge of your seat”
This writer is a guy I would LOVE to meet in person. He has caused me to lose sleep, neglect my ‘to do’ lists and pretty much ignore everything around me. I cannot put his books down. Now Mr. Anderson, all you have to do is start writing a book a week. Chop chop. LOL.

Seasons of Man is a well written post apocalyptic 3 book series with no zombies, strong, likeable and well-rounded characters, great plot and terrific action. Well worth reading! I highly recommend this as well as Mr Anderson’s other very good series The Eden Chronicles.

Great Series, Good Final Book
Really enjoyed this series. All three books were hard to put down! This is supposedly the final book if the series, but I hope the author returns to this some day as the characters are engaging and enjoyable.

There were a couple of years elapsed since book 2 and I struggled a bit to remember who was who and what happened before. I like the current convention that a lot of books are using to provide a prelude/recap of what has happened; it is very helpful. At times there was a lot of detail (= too much) on military weapons and tactics, and this was story one long armed conflict on several fronts. There were some frequent editing errors in grammar, sentence structure and spelling (ex. Pittsburg/Pittsburgh-this was a focal point of some action so should have been consistently spelled correctly). The strength of the book and the series in general was the cooperative environment espoused by the Potomac community and their affinities. It is always nice to have someone to cheer for and also someone to cheer against (I'm looking at you Farrell). This ended well, wrapping up the story and leaving hints of a hopeful future).

Scared me
I have never been scared to read a book belong in a series. I was with this one. Like every one else, I had my favorites and was afraid they would die in the next book! I had to read on and see who would die and who would would not.
The women in this series were strong both in carrying themselves and using their emotions to better their lives and loving their men even when wondering if their hearts were going to be shattered if they didn't return.
I found the author out shined so many others that failed to engage us readers in describing the details of war and the hell that it called for in each battle.
I was so deep into the pages of the novels that time slipped away as I read.
Any author that has the magic to capture their attention is one of the greats. One such author as S.M. Anderson!!

Really Good Story
I truly have enjoyed this series. This book is a very fine follow up to the first and second books. (1) PLEASE MR. ANDERSON, I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. Spelled P I T T S B U R G H with an H at the end. (2) The northern river that flows into Pittsburgh and helps form the Ohio River is the Allegheny River, the river I was raised beside and swam in all my young years. FYI the Susquehanna River is near Harrisburg in the south central area of the state. It also empties into the Chesapeake Bay, which you know about since you live in Northern Virginia. Just in case you update your books, please correct that. Pittsburghers are very proud of their city. Lots of corrections in this one. But if the errors are overlooked, it’s a very fine story.

Standing at the Gate
I'm not a die-hard war buff reader. That said, this is a war story, but also a life story. I do read many apocalypse stories and enjoy them thoroughly. This isn't a typical apocalypse story; I think many people drawn to various other themes will enjoy this series. It's definitely one of the best sets of characters. By the end, I felt I was reading about my personal friends.

sad it’s ended… or has it?
I’d like to think that if the apocalypse happened there would be some communities where a woman was in charge, and not one like the witch who ruled in Charlottesville. Rather, one like the community ran in the first book after taking out their own set of bad guys. This author held me entranced from the beginning, when Jason met with Pro, Rachel and Elsa. Well worth a read.

Now this is a great series. Action, with planning and thinking show actually how something like this could happen, maybe not but it COULD. No woke lies in these pages just straight forward thinking and planning put into action against tough, but rudderless foes. Read it for a great escape with a (blank) ending. I will not spoil the ending for anyone, read it and find out!

One of my new favorite authors and he doesn’t disappoint with Standing at the Gate. New bad guys, lots of action and new characters. Do yourself a favor and read this series.

What an excellent read all 3 books are. Really great storylines and characters that make it almost impossible to put down. Fast paced and wonderfully written. Job well done!

Another Two Day Read
I really love SM Anderson’s style. The story and characters are great. I love the pacing especially, it just keeps me locked in from beginning to end. I’ve read both of the series by this Author and really enjoyed them. Usually, I have to but. Through them a book every 2-4 days. Hope there will be more. Spoilers Below…….
Only critique here is the ending could have had a little more dramatic flair. I thought we might see Farrell and Jason in a hand to hand face off where Pro flips the script and does the saving in a heroic death match style. So the shot from behind while granted at maybe 30% didn’t feel as badass as the first books one man charge into the hornets nest. I felt like it was an opportunity to set Pro up as the next Jason and do a future follow-up series where he’s leading an explorers type collective into parts of the world uncontested since the suck. Maybe a 20 years ahead deal. All the new problems of a fledgling society and Pros desire to go back to a freedom he hadn’t felt in a while.

Look I've bought it and I've read it, - so that's an automatic three star rating for me. Did I love it? No. Was it a pleasant enough way to pass the time - sure. Would I read more in the same universe? possibly.
This doesn't do anything extraordinary within the over crowded apocalyptical universe, it's a little too soldier/war game based for me. I was more interested in characters like Michelle and how the civilian side of world building was going, but we barely spent any time with her and none at her work. I liked it best when Drew was expounding on how to rebuild a better world, than the highly detailed fights.
Still, I read it and someone worked long and hard creating it and it's good enough.

Super fun series
I really liked this trilogy. The characters and story are great. I really like the worldbuilding and the focus on rebuilding communities.
This particular book could have used another strong copy edit as there are typos throughout, accompanied by some awkward sentences here and there, and some needless repetition.
That being said, no books are totally free from these things and it holds up to pretty much anything else I read in the genre. It's a fine effort and a lot of fun. I hope there will be more someday.

Real-time view of our world after all restraints are removed…
When politics are removed, what’s left in a post-apocalyptic society is what that society, and it’s members, truly value and believe. This series seems to take the rhetoric of today’s world and knead it into a storyline that is more than believable…it’s eerily an echo of today’s headlines, minus some details. It’s what you would expect to see if the future, post-apocalyptic society had newspapers.
Highly recommended!!

Another excellent book in the series. I would have given it 5 stars, but I had to deduct a star for the grammatical errors. Too many to overlook this time. This one had a lot of military jargon in it like the 2nd one…you can either get bogged down in it trying to remember everything or just read through it. The same goes for the details of the areas/cities where the action took place. A great book showcasing strength, determination, family, morales, values, friendship…standing up for what’s right. I do recommend the series.

I really enjoyed this book, but as another Goodreads reviewer mentioned, the length of time since the previous books left me wondering who was who and what was going on. If you read the series straight through you wouldn't have that problem, of course.
The editing errors make the eyes stumble more than they should too. Despite these issues it's a great story with a great plot, with character growth, plenty of action, and a nice wrap-up to the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was well written. The story was interesting. The characters were engaging. I believe I have read all of the Seasons of Man and Eden Chronicles books. They were all excellent and I am eagerly awaiting more! Additionally, I wanted to say how much I appreciated reading an author who shared my values and did not insult my intelligence with politically correct / woke garbage. That is really rare these days and I am so thankful I found S. M. Anderson’s books.

In the author's note S.M. Anderson apologized to readers of his East of Eden series for the digression to book 3 of Seasons of Man. No apologies are needed. Both series are equally readable with strong, likeable characters, excellent plots and pacing and convincing realism. Can't wait for the next books in either series!

Had to downgrade my rating
Because of the vaccine propaganda in the last chapter. Vaccines do not work and never have. My whole entire family is injured by childhood vaccines. Some of us are autoimmune because of them. We stopped jabbing ten years ago and never will again. Too bad bc you could have had five stars.

Better than most
As title suggests I read a lot of apocalyptic fiction. This trilogy is better than most.
Good characterisation.
Well explained military stuff.
Great story.
Perhaps the baddies are a little too bad and the goodies a little too good, but then it is fiction.
I'd read more of this author, for sure.

Don't read this book
Devour it. I like the moral end ethical delimnas the characters must face and overcome to survive in ther ravaged world. The combat scenes are not over-the-top and the good guys don't always win. They get hurt, bleed and some perish. A very satisfying series.

Superb story of G vs. E
Good story aboit picking up the pieces after a plague nearly wipes the board clean. If you like uplifting books and military based stories give this series atry. Of course if you see this odds are you read 1&2.

Awesome
Mr. Anderson did it again . Another excellent novel . I have been a fan and avid reader of his works for awhile. This definitely worth reading . Good job sir . No give us the next installment in the Eden Chronicles lol.

great finish
I enjoyed SM’s take on a apocalypse involving the big ‘suck’. A flu that decimates most of the population. Loved the characters and the hope that civilization could prevail. Read the previous books first though. Great trilogy.

I liked it. It had a lot of moving parts and some were hard to follow, but for the most part it was enjoyable. Not too heavy but not too light. Nice finish and it’s left open for a fourth if he decides to continue

loved the series
