Women like me don’t get to live happily ever after.

The Fae King claims me as his own, but a fairytale ending is not in my foreseeable future. Half of the kingdom supports our union. The other half of the kingdom wants to hunt me down.

I keep getting visions, and I must run to escape that possible truth. How am I supposed to convince the kingdom I’m not evil? I can’t even convince myself.

My unique power and the prophecy that surrounds it are mysteries nobody understands.

I don’t know what darkness resides in me. I don’t know how to find the light.

There’s only one way to escape this, even though it’s the last thing I want to do.

Forbidden Fae is the second book in the Fate Of The Fae series following Ellie as she struggles with saving the lives of those she's come to know and love or allowing her feelings to get in the way. While I intitially felt Ellie may have become somewhat stagnant as a character letting her anxiety and nerves get the best of her in the first part of the book, I soon realized this was a realistic view on how someone struggling with anxiety and decision making thinks and allows their thoughts to spiral. This actually allowed me to feel more connected with Ellie as a character as I myself tend to think of scenarios in catastrophic ways due to my own anxiety. Vera Rivers continued to grow all of the characters in this book while also keeping them who they are at their core. This book though a slower read than the first really helps build a lot of ground work and world building for the war, politics and overall kingdom of this series. It also allows you to go on Ellies journey of self discovery with her and how she fits into the world as a human born with the first light. Though I loved this book and can't wait for the next in the series, I do wish we got more insight on Rens POV while Ellie was gone. Despite me wishing we got Rens POV, Vera Rivers Fate Of The Fae series continues to be a must read featuring twists and turns, unexpected meetings, anxiety, romance and of course a bit of spice.

Ren and Ellie are bonded, and we get to see a relationship between two complex characters develop! I absolutely adore these two.
Nylah and Dex are definitely still my favorite characters. These two rock! All of the side characters are amazing.
All in all, I finished this book in one sitting and I am ready for more!

Lost Me

I read this thru KU. Book 1 hooked me. But this book lost me. I found the character's decisions in this book weird, the vague prophecies/ dreams repetitive and frustrating, and the book generally did not hold my interest. Worst of all Ellie in book 2 has had like a personality change from book 1 that made me like her less. Still read book 3 tho.

Hence, 2 stars

This book is the second in the Fate of the Fae series. It looks a lot deeper into the world building and also Ellie’s journey with anxiety.

Plot:

To start, this book follows the same plot as the first one. Ren and Ellie are still together and there is still war coming, but overall the story had little to no conflict resolution. It ends with still not knowing what Ellie is which is the most important question in the series. I don’t think anything really important happened in this book. Very underwhelming of you ask me. I think this book was great for filling in some info on how the world works and Ellie’s inner thoughts, but the actual storyline wasn’t developed at all. The only ends that were tied up were the civil war and even that was rushed into the last 10% of the book. Overall could’ve been better.

Characters:

The only character we actually know really anything about is Ellie still. I still love Nylah, Dex, and Ren but i want to actually get to know their characters more. As far as Ellie goes I definitely understand her anxiety and obsessive thoughts making her a very relatable character but she was also very frustrating. A lot of her decisions were made solely because of emotion and no logic. She did get better towards the end tho i’ll give her that.

Romance:

The romance in this book was tense due to ellie overthinking the relationship until she almost ruined it for good. We got to see a lot about Ren and Ellie’s communication which was great. I love how understanding and supportive Ren was even when she was spiraling. There was also moderate spice. Again, very similar to the last book 🌶️🌶️/5.

Will i read the next in the series? maybe maybe not 🤷‍♀️

***May contain Spoilers if you haven't read book 1***

I finished book 2 of the "Fate of The Fae series", "Forbidden Fae". I enjoyed the book. It was a pretty short book so I read it fairly quickly. Again, I do habe tonsay that there were some grammar and spelling issues in this one as well. But the story is good. I enjoyed it still.

Ellie and King Rainier are mated to each other. But they aren't sure how since she is not a Fae and is human. But she also has this power as well that was brought out...and it is light! After killing the king's ex fiancé, Lucia, when she tried to kill her first (several times), Lucia's parents have come to the king to accuse him of murdering their daughter because of Ellie, a human. Rainier tried to explain to them that Lucia wasn't good and had dark magic. But they wouldn't listen and waged war against the king. Now Ellie thinks that everything is her fault...then Lucia's mother, Carlin, forsees a prophecy that says thay Ellie will bring the destruction upon 2 Kingdom's if the king marries her. Now what will they do and what will happen because of Ellie?

4.5⭐️/5

This was a good continuation of the story and I’m loving it! I like how each book has its own complete plot but still follows one big plot that we’re going to find out about in the third book!

I love Ellie’s determination to want to try and save everyone and by her also discovering and learning how to use her powers. I did find her to be a bit stubborn at times and refusing to believe Ren that she isn’t the sole reasons for the plot per se. However I’m glad that she finally accepted that she can stay with Ren in the end!

The ending??? Ooof I need to read the third book because who is Ellie’s mother?? I do have a slight hunch of who it could be but we shall see if I am right!

Overall 10/10 really enjoying this series and highly recommend it, especially if you want a fantasy series that’s fast paced, has some spice in it but not a lot and great character development throughout the story!

Ellie had killed Lucia because she was going to kill King Rainier, now the country is on the brink of civil war as Lucia’s parents try to convince the country that a prophecy tells that Ellie will bring the destruction of two countries and the end of days. Coupled with the nightmares Ellie keeps having and her uncertainty of being the next queen, convinces that she should leave to protect her loved ones, no matter how much it hurts.
This is another action-packed book: Ellie is trying to find her place and King Ren is trying to protect his people. But evil is stalking them and the prophecy is unclear of its true meaning and the twist and cliff-hanger at the end, OMG, bring on the next book!

From the get go this book was so exciting and fun, and a little heartbreaking. Ellie does so much in this book, and we learn a little more about her powers and her bond with Ren. The relationships she has built are tested, and she must find a way to overcome her fears and protect those she loves from others who seek to destroy everything around her, and claim it for themselves. Watching Ellie and Ren grow and become stronger and more capable both by themselves and with each other is wonderful. This story has captivated me from the beginning and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.

5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.

4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.

3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.

2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.

1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.

Vera Rivers takes us on a journey of self-discovery with Ellie. Learning she's part of a prophecy, her internal power and magic have made themselves known and yet, no one seems to know where it comes from. Is she Fae? She still feels human, her skin does not shine like most Fae, nor are her ears pointed. But her magic? Oh, it's more than powerful. Powerful enough to save Ren, Nylah, and Dex … not once, but twice and because she has there will be war. Or is that the only reason? Her magic has taken her through the castle where she discovered two separate tomes at two separate times. One described the prophecy but before she read completely through it she let her fear get the best of her and closed the book. The second time was an invisibility spell that would block the fated bond from being felt so Ren couldn't locate her. She'd been having nightmares/visions of complete and utter devastation where everything had been destroyed. In Ellie's mind, the only conclusion was that this was to take place if she stayed with her fated mate and became his queen and they ruled together. Since Ren is determined not to give her up, she felt she had no choice but to leave in order to say his life and hopefully put an end to war. The journey was not only emotional for Ellie because she could still feel the bond, although not as strong, she could also still check on Ren. Giving him and her other friends up had cut out a piece of her heart. But, each must do what they feel they must, right? Vera Rivers has not only created a picture with her words but they come to life in my mind as I was reading. The fear and anxiety Ellie feels are so potent and relatable that it was easy to empathize with her and yet, I wish we could have had a bit of Ren's POV during this book to see what he was going through. I hope the next one fills in a few gaps I'm feeling in this relationship but I'm vested in the series and look forward to where Ms. Rivers will take us next.

If you enjoy stories of the fae and romance this is a must read.  FORBIDDEN FAE is the second installment in the Fate of the Fae series by Vera River. The characters and plot were captivating and drew me in from the beginning to the end, leaving me wanting more. The steamy scenes are well placed and not just for thrills. Warning: this does ends in a cliffhanger.

Ellie's world was turned upside down when she went to sleep on a pile of rags and woke up in someone else's body accused of killing the king and thrown into an arena to fight a monster.  Finding her true mate in this new land she was soon forced to leave her new life to save the lives of those she's come to know and love. Now the dark forces are trying to kill her forcing her to flee again. This time she has information that may help the king and her friends save their Kingdom from a civil war and an invasion.

One war ends, but more trouble lies ahead. Ellie's mother needs her and must be found for the country to survive.  Now for the third installment FAE DESTINY.

The first book sucked me in with that amazing opening.
However, this book was just a bunch of the same words repeated over and over and over again.
Seriously, at one point I genuinely thought I was re-reading the same chapter again.
And for the love of the Goddess why must they constantly argue about it not being Ellie's fault?!!!
And why must Ellie constantly explain how withdrawn Ren was?!!?!
The dreams are another example of using the same words over again. And the lovemaking scenes....
It's almost like Vera decided it was too much work to write original scenes, copied and pasted previous scenes and made very minor changes.
Then Ellie returns to her previous town....how is that supposed to prevent the prophecy from happening?! It is the place where her dreams are taking place. Seems like the last place she should be going if she wanted to protect everyone.
That's when I stopped reading.
It's really a shame. I thought I'd found a series with a good amount of books to read.

Absolutely brilliant. I loved it. Ren Ellie Nylah and Dex and Zita are my favourite. I also liked Thomas and Naomi who Helped Ellie. Didn't like Erol King of Palgia. Read in one sitting. Couldn't put it down. I'm looking forward to fae Destiny. 5*.

All is fair in love and war

The bond between Ellie and Ren is undeniable, but not all are willing to accept a human as future queen. Especially not the parents of the deceased former queen candidate. The kingdom is on the brink of war, not one but two, threatened by Palgia as much as by civil war. To avoid the latter, Ellie decides to take matters into her own hands and disappear.
The second book in the series brings a lot of drama, pain, grief, betrayal, and deep hurt, but also hope, loyalty, and undying love. Ellie's character shines bright, literally and figuratively, and although her role in the future of the kingdom and the story is still wrapped in mystery, from time to time a revelation comes - always as a bomb dropped on the reader. Now I am heading to follow Ellie into her next book..

Honestly, I liked the first book more... I felt like this was the classic 'second book syndrome' where the MC decides to leave for a while, but then comes back in the end. Which is what happened in this book.

But I really love Ren and Ellie's relationship because of the bond and their emotions towards each other. And I'm so glad that Ellie is now Queen after their mating ceremony.
Nylah and Dex was my favorite characters in this book because they showed strength and courage when it was needed, but also support towards Ellie.

But of course Nylah had to get a vision that the war isn't over, and they need Ellie's mother in order to win, which might be easier said than done, when she abandoned Ellie as a baby.
But I suspect that the ring, which magically comes back when she gets rid of it, might be a way of contacting her?

Ellie's Decisions . . .

Ellie is still confused. She thought she was human, yet power and magic have activated within her and no one knows the source. She doesn’t appear to be Fae, but what is she? Still getting visions, she is afraid to stay with Ren and end up causing his death. The threat of war is filling her with fear. She finally figures that the only thing for her to do is run and remove herself from the middle of things. But what if that is not the answer? What is she needs to become Ren’s Queen? What if they are stronger together as one and her leaving has weakened that position? Experiencing her anxiety and worry feels very real to the reader and pulls us further into the story. Grab your copy and see what decisions she makes.

I am really enjoying this series. Everytime Ellie starts to annoy me it just reminds me how good the writing is. I think I would have died in the first book, but if I made it this far I definitely would be struggling similarly to how Ellie is. She feels like a realistic character who has had a hard life and then been thrown into an entirely new one. And while she is doing amazing, she also has moments where she isn't sure and is anxious. And she (we) still have a lot to learn.

Plus the secondary characters really are the best. I love them so much.

I was really disappointed in this one. I really had faith in the author that there would be more depth this the story this time around but it is still so surface level, not even some twists and turns like the first one. Also, most of the story was pure telling rather than showing and I just can't do it, it take so much away from the story when the author does that. I also found that there was no real variation when it came to her telling phrases, she used the same descriptive words over and over to the point where they just lost all meaning.

Over all, I will not be continuing on with this series.

I listened to this book as an audio book, and I feel like the choice of narrator could have been better. I didn't care for the cadence of how she read at times. She would sometimes get very quiet, and it would be hard to hear. At times she also had a whiny tone. The story was good, overall. I found that sometimes the story was a bit repetitive with some elements. I didn't care for the "It's all my fault, and I have to leave for their safety. " narrative that the main character persisted on thinking. It got really old. Also, I feel like the FMC and the MMC never really had a good conflict resolution conversation. They seemed to return to happy and bubbly a bit quickly for my taste.

Forbidden Fae by Vera Rivers continues Ren and Ellie's story but I thought that a little of the momentum and edge was missing after such an excellent first book. We discover that there's more to Ellie than we knew, humans can't wheel magic but Ellie's found she can. I wish she didn't keep second-guessing herself so much though.

A threat of a civil war is looming threatening Ren, his reign and their love. I love both these characters they have such depth and share such great chemistry.
I'm looking forward to the next book and the conclusion to this story!

This one suffered the same fate of too much repetition as the first book. I also didn't really care for how much circular thinking Ellie had about whether or not Ren loved her. I think it might've felt better had we seen his pulling away rather than have a time skip from book 1 end and "so yeah he's distant now." Like I get the circular thinking. Anxiety is a bitch but it rang kind of hollow to me because it felt very out of the blue considering how book 1 ended. The book got a lot better once Ellie was out exploring the world and I'm very excited to see what happens next.

Ellie and the rest are back for more fun and games and surprises. Ellie has learned some answers but more questions are raised, at least by me. While the main crew are still alive war still looms. More answers are needed found and that pesky prophecy is around. Easy to read and got sucked into the story to see what was happening and what would show up next. Enjoyed it all and watching Ellie learn and grow.

Ellie is clearly more than human- once the fae see proof of this, might they stop worrying her connection to Ren, the King?

The family of Conjurite Lucia seems to be an ongoing problem- her darkness came from somewhere , after all.

Ellie must either stand her ground, or leave. Stronger together or apart? What is best for the couple? for the Kingdom?.

Ren and Ellie are now together. Training continues with magic thrown in. Ellie has her magic go out of control at a training session, and now she's worried. When Baut declares war on the kingdom, Ellie leaves at night, thinking she is saving everyone she loves. This story has fun moments, lots of romance, steam, and plenty of action, ending with a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended.

I loved reading these stories and the first three follow Ellie and Ren's relationship. I would have liked to have read more from Ren's POV also. The first three books are mainly from Ellie's POV.

Book 4 is about Hazel and Erol and book 5 is about Nylah and Dex. These do follow on, so I recommend reading all five books.

You gotta love a HEA!

Again, the writing is too repetitive and simple for my taste. The pacing isn’t right either. Ellie spends a couple of chapters living in the Uprain Mountains with the free humans just working on a farm and feeling sorry for herself. Then the final battle takes place in just one super rushed chapter. There was enough of a cliffhanger for me to want to read the next book but if there was a cliff notes version of this whole series I would read that instead.
