There's no question that the magical apparatuses Dahlia makes enrich people's lives. And now that her friends have given her the push to launch her own company, business is really taking off! But a burgeoning relationship with Volfred complicates things. After what happened with Tobias, can Dahlia risk giving her heart to another?
Dahlia’s got her new trading company and her new lease on life. But that’s entirely secondary to her idiot fiancé showing just why he sucks like a black hole in a toilet bowl, and then her reunion with the knight, Volf, whose intentions, for now, are decidedly not the norm for a story like this.
A friend commented that the light novels were positively obsessed with describing food and I didn’t know precisely what that meant until this volume, which makes a meal out of illustrating and discussing various foodstuffs.
I can only imagine how excruciating this was in strictly prose form, but it’s framed here as a conversation between two people getting to know one another and their sheer enthusiasm carries an otherwise pedestrian scene of edible exploration.
There’s something kind of delightfully melancholic about two people who are absolutely perfect for one another and love one another’s company, but whose respective experiences have left them simply treasuring one another as dear friends. Now, do I believe this is going to last? Hell no, but let me have my moment.
Volf and Dahlia make very good friends for one another - it’s clear that Dahlia inherited her father’s taste for booze and the two of them spend as much time tossing them back as they do anything else. They also have a mutual affection for magical devices. This whole book is basically them hanging out and doing stuff and it mostly makes it work.
I wouldn’t say this is outstanding, but it sure is amiable. All this enthusiasm is infectious and there are some more than okay bits - Volf thinks Dahlia is in danger at one point, but it turns out she’s about three seconds away from shattering some jerk’s tackle with her magic. She knows how to handle herself.
Where the story goes a bit south is when it reaches for the overly descriptive and tends to bog itself down in details, even with the aid of pictures. And it doesn’t quite know when it should cut and run - we get an entire chapter of Dahlia getting a glow-up that runs too long. The meal runs a little too long. The creation of a pair of glasses, well, you get it.
On the balance, however, it’s an enjoyable enough continuation of what came before. We learn a lot about Dahlia’s father and how he actually conducted himself and that turns out to have lots of echoes in Dahlia’s life now, even with his passing. It’s very sweet and her fondness for him is quite evident.
We even get some more of Tobias being a complete and utter prick, if seeing more of him was something you were yearning for. It’s nice how they keep that awkward spectre of the ex you just can’t seem to avoid in the story, although that’s entirely on him not taking a damn hint.
I wouldn’t call this necessary reading, but as a female empowerment story that has a bit of isekai and a believably compatible pair of friends who can spend an evening just shooting the breeze, it’s definitely better than it is boring, if only the boring bits weren’t there.
3 stars - I definitely come down positively on this series, although it is way too into its details at times. An easy recommend if you liked the first volume, even if this one is less plot forward and more booze-and-grub forward instead.
This volume wasn't *quite* as exciting as the first and I think a large part of that is because I didn't love the whole beautification process in the opening chapter. Granted, logically I think it makes sense because what was spoken makes 100% sense. But I still couldn't be fully excited about it so it sort of set the "mood" while continuing to read…
Well, maybe that isn't *fully* true because oh my goodness, Dahlia and Volf are AMAZING! I feel SO conflicted because I deeply love seeing them as friends, but the way they respond to one another and genuinely care for each other really leaps off the page that I *desperately* want to see them in a romantic relationship. Considering the events of volume one, it's extremely satisfying to see where they both can gush about magical swords and being thankful for everyone involved cooking a dish with kraken. The only other person Dahlia even remotely had that kind of relationship with was her father and obviously that was different because it was her father. LOL!
Speaking of, I really really really loved how we continue to see memories of her father, but through other people's shared memories with Dahlia. It was really moving and made him feel alive in a way, which I feel made the last experiment in this volume all the more meaningful. The way she loved her father and treasured him still continues to be my favorite part of this story. It's deeply beautiful and very touching.
So overall, I enjoyed so many different parts of this story, but didn't quite enjoy it as much as I did the first volume. I continue to cheer for Dahlia though and seeing her grow as an individual because she continues to be so amazing and so very inspiring!
Honestly what I loved most about this is discovering more about her dad. He wasn't just used as a plot device in the first book. Even though he's passed away she sees all the ways he helped others and helped plan for her future even after he was gone. It was really sweet. Plus I'm loving Volf. He's just a sweet hearted guy who's obsessed with swords.
The art is beautiful, and the idea for the book is a good one. I'm just not a fan of how it's being presented.
Truthfully, I got pretty bored. I was hoping she was going to get back into making things, but she doesn't until the last few chapters. The rest of the book was just her and Volf eating, talking, and looking around town. Part of the disappointment stems from the fact that they are in a "fantasy" world with little to no fantasy. Just having magical beasts (that you never see) isn't enough. They wear modern clothes, eat modern food, have modern appliances, have modern buildings, and even their stairs leading to the store had modern metal railings. There just isn't enough fantasy to keep that vibe going. That fantasy feeling was the whole reason I wanted to read the book in the first place. Maybe if she spent more time creating things with magic and beast artifacts it would have felt like fantasy. Instead you watch her talk about business and building her own company. You watch her get clothes that are modern, and taught how to apply modern makeup.
This is supposed to be a romance but there is no romance. Both Volf and Dahlia say they aren't interested in love and are just friends. There aren't really any stolen touches or longing glances or anything. I wasn't reading it for the romance factor but that would have been nice since the fantasy factor is missing.
I just really don't have interest in the story anymore.
A low stakes fantasy that has some magic, but not overwhelmingly so. I think it's interesting that nobility have actual magical powers and practice polygamy. The stuff around class is pretty interesting but doesnt feel as poignant; it's more world building vs impacting the main character in any real way.
So her being a commoner is irrevelant, and she has no aspirations to ascend class.
More stuff here about how they use beasts in their make up. This sounds like it would be a hard world for a vegan to live in.
Finally get to meet another artisan who made a modern device! And I do appreciate that it's not exactly 1:1 with the modern world. So it feels still like fantasy.
Even though I like the new male lead, he's the son of a third wife to a noble. He doesn't even have any magic befitting his name OR rank. So he's noble in name only and spends his days as a knight.
I hope the other volumes reveal why this was a choice the author made because it feels boring! I want more magic :/
I do think it's cute that despite being set in Europe, people still bow!!
Also still hoping for a love story T.T even though Dahlia doesn't think she's good at love or that relationships are for her. Maybe slow burn?!
I love this series so far. It's very lighthearted but has some sad backstories that are beautifully embodied. The magical devices mimic modern world so interestingly. It makes me curious what will be the next modern day invention in a fantasy world and how that will make waves for our main character.
I also love their friendship its very sweet and has potential for romance. But I'd love to see them stay platonic. But Volf is exactly the man her father pictured her to find. And I love that sentiment so much!
Continues to be very cute and fun. I like seeing how the relationship between Dahlia and Volf is evolving. Also fun to see the guild growing into a found family for Dahlia. It's a slow-paced story and I'm fine with that, but curious to see if Tobias is going to recur as a 'villain' or if the story is going to stay on the light/sweet side.
art continues to be fantastic...the story is progressing nicely but the romance is not :| I am a little bummed by how much the message of 'their relationship is platonic' was pushed until the very end, given how the blurb on this volume alluded to more.

I left a review on the first volume as well, but let’s just say the story just continues to get better and better. I really enjoy all of the characters so far and catch myself getting attached. I can’t wait to see whether this manga takes off. I highly recommend!
Good concept but that's all. Not interesting enough for me, had random side characters and the love interest was a ken doll nothing interesting about him not to mention he was very self deprecating.
I love the art style. Story can be hard to follow. But I’ll give it at least another volume. I loved the food scenes! Im a sucker for a manga with food.
