Well, isn't this a thing. If you want nuanced, accurate, kink-shame-free BDSM content, run far away from this book. But if you want a pretty darn good parody of Puella Magi Madoka Magica and a double-entendre title that MEANS it, this is pretty fun.

Mahou shoujo now 100% for adult audience!
I have been watching the anime for this one for a while and I really like it. Yes, at times it is a bit uncomfortable given the scenes, but you also just cannot stop watching it. So I thought I would start reading the manga as well, especially since some people mentioned that the manga just captures the story/the scenes a bit better, that there is more impact. So I was curious!
The manga and the anime are quite close actually, so I was a tad bit bored. And the manga is definitely at points a bit tamer than the anime (and some scenes shortened), which surprised me, I had expected that the manga was also like this, but no.
In this one we meet a girl named Hiiragi Utena. She LOVES magical girls, collects all of their merchandise, and fawns over them when they save the world. She also would like to be a magical girl.. but instead she gets recruited by the evil counterpart, the villains. Enormita/Enormeeta. At first you see she is very hesitant about her outfit (and who can blame her, I mean, it seems that if you are the villain the less fabric you have), and also about her part in fighting cough the magical girls. But as the story continues and she discovers something else inside of her we see her change bit by bit. I definitely liked how her evil villain/transformation to evil and her normal counterpart are so different but slowly things mingle. It was quite funny to see her go from gushing over the magical girls to see how far she could go with fighting, or well, coughs torturing the girls she loves so much. Because this girl? With each step she gets more of a dominatrix. In the anime she has almost zero restraints anymore, but here she is still a bit hesitant, though her inner lust takes over quite bit.
Yes, a warning for the peeps at home. This is a mature read. With BDSM stuff. I don’t mind that at all, well, OK, this wouldn’t have been a read or a watch from me 10+ years ago, but now? I am fine.
I loved that this manga also introduced Kiwi-chan already! I just adore Kiwi-chan, first with her big mouth and trying to assert dominance… only to get totally fried (literally) by Utena and then becoming her friend? Lover? Fangirl? Either way, I just adore Kiwi-chan. She is a craycray girl, but so kick-ass.
I also like that we get some bits with the mahou shoujo. Yes, they are not my favourite bits, but I still like them. I see that my watching the anime has already influenced how I see these girls. Magenta is fine. Azure… well, she has her issues (though is discovering your sexuality really an issue?). Sulfur is just horrendous and the one I dislike the most with her attitude.
The art is pretty good. I like the style and it fits well.
So, if you are an adult and like a more mature mahou shoujo and don’t mind BDSM, be sure to check this one out. I will be reading this one again after the anime because for now it is mostly the same and it is all just too fresh for me.

This is some great light entertainment, the art is sleek, the action exciting and the lewdness is perfectly perverse. It is nothing overly profound or new, but it is an entertaining series.

Je remercie les Éditions Meian pour l’envoi de cette lecture. J’ai tellement aimé faire cette découverte. Un manga qui parle de magical girls, mais de manière originale et qui change de ce qu’on connaît !
Utena est une adolescente qui est complètement fan des magical girls. Il y en a d’ailleurs trois dans sa ville et elle les admire énormément. Alors, quand un jour une étrange créature vient lui proposer de la transformer en magical girl, ni une, ni deux, elle accepte directement.
Mais en réalité, il la transforme en une adepte du mal. Et ce dernier la menace de diverses choses pour l’empêcher d’arrêter. Elle se retrouve à devoir combattre les magical girls qu’elle apprécie tant. Mais le plus étrange dedans, c’est qu’elle commence petit à petit, à prendre du plaisir à faire souffrir ces dernières.
Ce manga m’a vraiment beaucoup plu. Ce que j’aime ici, c’est l’humour un peu sexy qu’on y retrouve. En effet, Utena est au service du mal, mais elle a une spécialité particulière. En effet, elle fait souffrir via des pratiques types BDSM et sa baguette magique n’est qu’autre qu’une cravache !
L’humour décalé de ce manga m’a totalement plu et je suis déjà impatiente de découvrir la suite. En plus, ce que je trouve intéressant ici, c’est qu’on en connaît énormément des mangas qui parlent de magical girls, mais ici, pour une fois, on se retrouve avec le point de vue du mal et je trouve cela très intéressant.
En bref, c’est un premier tome qui m’a fait une très bonne impression. J’aime beaucoup l’humour proposé et l’originalité de l’œuvre. Je suis curieuse de voir comment le personnage d’Utena va évoluer par la suite !

The manga Gushing Over Magical Girls is one of the most well written pieces of literature I have ever read. The overall message and theme brings a tear to my eye when I think about it. The way the author places a spotlight on the aspects of society that most people ignore is truly beautiful. The book is about a girl named Utela Hiiragi, who lives in a world that is controlled by 3 “Heroes”:Haruka Hanabishi, Kaoruko Tenkawa, and Sayo Minakami. Of course, these heroes are not true heroes but rather a group of people who use power for selfish purposes rather than morally correct choices. Utela overthrows the dictatorship power, only to become an even worse dictator now that Utela has more power than the 3 heroes. This is reminiscent of the book Animal Farm and how Napoleon overthrows the rule of Mr. Jones, only to become an equally evil leader of the farm. Often in history, a rebel will overthrow the government, claiming to bring positive change to society and get the country out of a depression or war, but does not fulfill these promises and behaves however the rebel wants. Not only the story, but also the character design is well made. The artists put an incredible amount of time into drawing these characters. In conclusion, Gushing Over Magical Girls deserves to be considered a poetic masterpiece.

Well this was not what I expected. Hiiragi Utena is a middle-school girl who idolises magical girls. Out of the blue, she’s offered a transformation too—but it’s for the side of evil! She tries to resist, but there’s a blackmail video, so she has to endure and attack the magical girls. The fights turn out to involve a lot of BDSM inspired torture, and Hiiragi starts to realise she really enjoys that side of being an evil magical girl.
This was a bit fun and a lot perv. I would’ve enjoyed it more though if the girls hadn’t been fourteen. Now it was a bit too icky. The end is a small twist, but not a cliffhanger. Art was good and there were great colour pages at the beginning of every chapter.

Trama e dialoghi non eccezionali. Divertente in certi tratti. Curiosità per le torture che infligge alle avversarie. Conflitto interiore. Alcune scene ecchi non disturbanti.

Je vous avoue que lorsque j’ai vu la couverture j’étais très septique. Enfin j’avais un peur d’avoir un manga rempli de fan service. En temps normal, ça ne me dérange pas du tout d’avoir du fan service dans les mangas que je lis. Mais il ne faut pas que ça prenne toute la place non plus. Quand il y en a trop c’est assez gênant, enfin pour ma part ça me gêne. Alors en voyant la couverture c’est la première chose que j’ai pensé. Je me suis laissé tenter quand même parce que le résumé m’a beaucoup plu. Et finalement j’ai tellement aimé ce premier tome! C’était frais, c’était drôle c’était vraiment un très bon tome.
On va suivre le personnage de Utena, une jeune fille qui est littéralement fan des Magical Girls. Trois d’entre elles sont dans sa ville et elle est plus qu’admirative devant elle. Elle respire Magical girls, vit Magical girls. Bref, elle est fan à un point inimaginable. Un jour, une créature lui lance un sort et elle peut désormais se transformer. Elle est tellement heureuse à l’idée d’imaginer qu’elle va pouvoir se battre aux côtés de celles qu’elle admire depuis si longtemps! Enfin, ça c’est ce qu’elle pensait… Au lieu de se transformer en Magical girls et se battre à leurs côtés, elle se transforme en leur ennemis.. Elle est désormais au service du mal..
J’ai vraiment beaucoup ris durant ma lecture. C’est rempli d’humour et c’est ce qui rend ce premier tome aussi passionnant. On a une touche de sexy dans cette humour. Utena est désormais au service du mal et doit se battre contre les Magical girls. Sauf que sa spécialité c’est faire souffrir sous forme de pratiques BDSM. Et elle prend du plaisir à le faire malgré qu’elle admire les Magical girls. Et je trouve ça vraiment très drôle. On voit qu’elle essaye de lutter pour ne pas les faire souffrir mais en même temps elle prend un plaisir monstre à les attacher et j’en passe. Ca nous offre des situations parfois vraiment hilarante à suivre.
Cet humour un peu déjanté, décalé c’est ça qui m’a fait autant aimé cette lecture. C’est ce que je préfère quand je lis, passer une excellent moment de lecture. Tourner les pages en rigolant etc c’est ce que préfère. Ce genre de lecture qui ne vous laisse pas indifférent et qui au fond restera marqué en vous. J’ai déjà trop hâte d’avoir la suite et de découvrir ce qui attend Utena ainsi que les autres personnages.D’ailleurs j’ai adoré Utena que je trouve absolument mignonne et adorable!

Utena träumt davon ebenso ein Magical Girl zu werden, so wie ihre geliebten Heldinnen. Eines Tages taucht ein Wesen auf und bietet ihr an, sie zu verwandeln.. doch was dann geschieht, ist alles andere, als Utena sich vorgestellt oder gewünscht hat! Denn sie ist plötzlich die Anführerin der bösen Organisation und muss ihre Vorbilder bekämpfen! 😱 Ja, muss.. denn das Wesen erpresst sie dazu - doch kurze Zeit später stellt sich raus, dass sie das ganz doch gar nicht so schlimm findet, wie sie zuerst dachte… 🤭
Ja, der Plot ist etwas überspitzt und es gibt viel Fanservice, dessen muss man sich im Klaren sein - ich hab damit aber keine Probleme und find das zwischendurch auch mal ganz nett 😄 das Charakterdesign wird durch das detaillierte Artwork gut in Szene gesetzt, man kann die einzelnen Personen gut auseinander halten und die Effekte passen auch gut dazu. Die Persönlichkeiten sind noch nicht ganz klar, aber bei einigen deutet sich da schon was an. Sie sind alle sehr unterschiedlich, aber es wirkt so, als hätten sie doch alle einen gemeinsamen Nenner - we will see.. ich freu mich jedenfalls auf den nächsten Band und bleib dran! 😸
Die Verarbeitung des Bandes ist ganz gut - das Front- und Backcover hat ne gute Dicke, die Farbseiten zu Beginn sind sehr kräftig und haben ein angenehmes Papier. Auch die restlichen Seiten haben eine gute Papierqualität und der Druck kommt auch gut rüber. Alles in allem bin ich da ganz zufrieden. Preislich ist der Band mit 144 Seiten für 13€ schon recht hoch angesetzt - da gibt's bei anderen Verlagen mehr Seiten für weniger Geld 😬 aber oft hängt das ja auch mit der Auflagengröße zusammen. Also Extra gab's ein Lesezeichen dazu, das ich ganz schick finde.

Been meaning to start reading this for a while, since the anime looked... uh, let's say "interesting."
This is a pretty fun gag manga so far, but it's not as sexy as I was expecting. Kinda reminds me of Ishuzoku Reviewers in that regard, which was just way less lewd than its anime adaptation. Well, I haven't seen the anime of this series, but whatever. I assumed it would be naughtier. Maybe it gets zanier as it continues? Eh, doesn't matter much anyway, since the manga is short enough (with the current hiatus) that it wouldn't be hard to catch up on, so may as well read the whole thing.

One thing that pisses me off, which has nothing to do with the manga itself: when searching this volume to rate it, I saw a review by someone who, frankly, often pisses me off when I see their ignorant reviews. This prolific reviewer claims this manga is, in part, a parody of Madoka Magica. Would I agree? I don't know, the cat does kind of resemble Kyubey. But that's about as far as comparisons go. There are no Witches, at least not yet. Baiser is a villainess who can turn everyday items into monsters, like so many PreCure villains. Which option is more likely: this manga is a parody of a single series with which it shares so few commonalities (magical girls in general, feline mascot with malicious intentions), or this other reviewer thinks they are entitled to review manga when they've never heard of PreCure, a magical girl franchise Toei has been producing for decades, but never really had the misfortune to truly break stateside (Glitter Force seems to have been a flop, allowing PreCure to remain mostly untainted by Western eyes)?

Humour original et sexy

Voila un manga comme je n’en ai pas l’habitude d’en lire. Je pense que c’est seulement mon deuxième manga avec des magical girls dedans mais j’aime bien le concept. Ici notre héroïne ne se bat pas avec, mais contre les magical girls qu’elle admire tant.
J’ai trouvé l’histoire plutôt marrante même si je me suis souvent demandé dans quel manga je m’étais fourré. L’humour est de nature plutôt sexy avec des situations BDSM tourné en dérision. Il y a aussi pas mal d’Ecchi, comme on peut s’y attendre avec la couverture, mais rien qui ne m’a dérangé. Le point négatif ici est que nos magical girls sont assez jeunes. Ça donne de l’innocence à nos personnages, certes, mais j’aurai préféré qu’elles soit un peu plus âgées. Niveau personnage, Utena est toute mimi je trouve. Elle est complétement perdue parfois mais cela ne l’empêche pas de bien s’amuser. Je suis curieuse de voir la suite et comment l’histoire va évoluer.
Je recommande à ceux qui recherche un manga plutôt original et sexy.

Voila un manga comme je n’en ai pas l’habitude d’en lire. Je pense que c’est seulement mon deuxième manga avec des magical girls dedans mais j’aime bien le concept. Ici notre héroïne ne se bat pas avec, mais contre les magical girls qu’elle admire tant.
J’ai trouvé l’histoire plutôt marrante même si je me suis souvent demandé dans quel manga je m’étais fourré. L’humour est de nature plutôt sexy avec des situations BDSM tourné en dérision. Il y a aussi pas mal d’Ecchi, comme on peut s’y attendre avec la couverture, mais rien qui ne m’a dérangé. Le point négatif ici est que nos magical girls sont assez jeunes. Ça donne de l’innocence à nos personnages, certes, mais j’aurai préféré qu’elles soit un peu plus âgées. Niveau personnage, Utena est toute mimi je trouve. Elle est complétement perdue parfois mais cela ne l’empêche pas de bien s’amuser. Je suis curieuse de voir la suite et comment l’histoire va évoluer.
Je recommande à ceux qui recherche un manga plutôt original et sexy.

I have a feeling some people are going to be really offended by this series considering it is the awakening of a sadistic but shy middle schooler through a magical girl genre. Of course this book contains an assortment of instances that may be offensive to others such as blackmail, bondage, spanking, wax dripping, torn clothes, implied nudity, and unwanted attention so use your best judgment if you wish to try this series out and please remember this is not a book for younger readers.
The description of the book pretty much says it all as a fan of magical girls is visited by a magical mascot and given the power to transform. However even when forced into the role of a villain we see a journey for a girl who discovers her affections may be tinged a bit toward the darker side all along (or perhaps her dark transformation is corrupting her.) This Puella Magica parody might have you laughing till it hurts or groaning in pain depending on your mood but I personally found it interesting reading this dark magical girl adventure with a kink.

An alright parody of Magical Girls with 2 glaring problems.
Nonconsenual BDSM played as comedic, and underage middle schoolers being heavily sexualized, from their clothes to the transformations and more.
It's pretty terrible. Japan and anime have a big problem with these topics, and sadly this one combines what could've been an interesting story of a girl forced into a Magical Girl Villain role with all of this creepy, leering, scantily covered CHILDREN.
I'm not sure why I expected better.
The art's alright, and some of the non-sexual designs are appealing.
The fact this got an anime says a lot about normalized this stuff is... yikes...

It’s okay? Too horny, or not horny enough depending on who you ask. Mostly just started to get pretty boring towards the end, it’s the kind of story where there’s obviously one big bad guy they have to fight who has been controlling everything and that’s shown to the reader so everything up to that point is basically filler and has no stakes

Quite funny but full of sexual assault, got too intense for me a few chapters in.

Would have been five if they were not 14 literal teens (although I head canon them way older) and very suggestive scenes, but I should've expected that because of the erotica tag, other than that they have great designs and I think Hiragi Utena is an interesting character.
