From the worldwide blockbuster film, this monster manga hit follows scare master Sulley and his assistant Mike on their mission of scaring the human children of the world. But when one small girl ends up giving them a big scare back, it becomes their job to return her to her bedroom...and the Monsters, Inc. factory back to normal.
This was a first time experience with a Disney Manga and my kids enjoyed revisiting the original Monsters, Inc. story. The illustrations were neat and it was easy to read. We noticed a few parts in the movie that weren't shared in this book, but it was still really good. We're looking forward to more in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley for sharing a copy with me in exchange for an honest review.
Disney Manga: Pixar's Monsters, Inc. by Hiromi Yamafuji is a comic book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. I was disappointed with this book. It had lots of 'sneak park's of other books (none of them looked like I wanted to get for grandkids) and then for the story itself the art was half manga looking. It just didn't look right with the Monsters to me. The story text, along with the sneak peek text, follow well and was humbled about. The story flow was not smooth. I would not but it for any of my grandkids.
Lovely comic book. Te first story, Zero's Journey is so nice, just loved him. The, Wall*E is so so cute, just like in the movie. i find some nice graphics in this book. Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for this nice copy. I really enjoyed it.
I don’t really understand why Disney/Pixar transforms their old success into Manga right now. A while back, i read the adaptation of Wall-E, which let me down. But with this one, even if I’m still unsure of the reason behind it all, the reading experience is good. The story is funny and has a good adventure in it. But again, why Manga, I just think that with all the great artwork and colors that those companies could bring on TV, why not do a comic book. It would have been more dynamic and more eyes captivating. Anyway, good, but could have been better!

3 stars.
I think this is really only going to appeal to manga fans or serious Monsters Inc fans. Those in the middle area probably won't enjoy it so much. The details in the illustrations seemed a bit too basic, even for manga, but the story was true enough to the original story which I quite liked. Overall, it was good and I did enjoy it.
For a manga directed at kids, this art style will suit them perfectly as it's very cute and dramatic. The story is the same entertaining shenanigans from the movie and a fun read.
This is a manga-style comic book of the story of the Monsters Inc. Disney Pixar movie. It reproduces the story of the movie exactly, edited for time, and follows the plot accurately.
It is the story of two monsters, Sulley and Mike, who scare children for a living to produce energy in their monster world. A child, a toxic and dangerous creature, accidentally enters their world. A large manhunt for the child is underway, but Mike and Sulley grow attached to her and try to protect her until she can get back home safely. In the process, they uncover a conspiracy that threatens their own safety.
This was my first time reading manga and the back-to-front. Right-to-left took a little getting used to. It’s target audience is elementary age children, but since they are beginning readers, I think the “backwards” reading of manga could be difficult to grasp, IF this would be their first time reading manga.
I think this was a fun book and I would recommend to elementary age children familiar with manga.
Thanks to NetGalley for a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.

This magna about Boo and monsters is comic version of movie. . Story is aptly illustrated and you tend to imagine scene of movie at each page. It is stikingly similar. It seems screenplay of movie is fixed as two dimensional work on pages of magna. . Innovation and any new additions are missing. It is hard to draw monster factory and its so many gates and strange ghosts but cartoonist has done ample justice to story. . When fast movements and gates are drawn, some of the fizz of magna is lost. That is expected after one has seen great animatios in the movie. . .Overall nice magna but not a blow you away kind of art. No big characters or full page highlight event.
One of the great books about monsters. These monsters are trying to got the scream from the kids in order to get the energy that they need to run their life, but what will happen if a kid got in to their life.
It has really emotional impact in many situation, and it show how friendship can be define.
It was a cute enough book, but didn't love the artwork enough to totally love it. But it was enjoyable and something kids might enjoy. It was different having Disney manga characters though.
'Disney Manga: Monsters Inc.' with art by Hiromi Yamafuji is another in the line of manga adaptations of Disney company films. This time, they missed the mark, though.
Mike and his friend Sully are top scarers. When Sully stays late at work and finds a human child, it means trouble. It turns out the trouble might run deeper than he thought.
I've liked other manga in this series, like the more recent Toy Story manga. This time around the art was just not very good. The characters looked strange. Also, the adaptation feels like it's lacking something. If a reader wasn't familiar with the movie, I think they'd be lost with this title.
I received a review copy of this manga from Tokyopop, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this manga.
Been on the shelf for quite a while, but decided to bring it down. Very glad I did. While the story is a simplified version of the movie, it hits enough highlights to be entertaining and the art is interesting.
Overall, might have to bring down more Disney manga because this one was good. I would recommend giving it a read if you’re a fan of the movie. Otherwise, well I’d still recommend giving it a read for something a little different than your average manga.
I saw the movie with my Granddaughter years ago but nothing beats the written word. The colors and illustrations are vibrant and detailed and help to bring imagination to the story. Great book for school or home library.
¡me gustó mucho! aunque todo pasa muy rápido tranquilamente se podía hacer de 250 hojas y quedaba perfecto 💫 los globos de diálogos era muy estrechos lo cual ha- cía que una ten- ga que leer así ...
This was my first time reading a Disney Manga and I quite enjoyed it! This manga adaptation of the movie Monsters, Inc. brought back a lot of childhood memories. As a kid, I remembered thinking that Mike looked way scarier than Sully and I'm glad to see that the manga version of Mike is actually really cute.
Overall, I thought the graphics were cute and well done. The storyline was good (exactly the same as the movie as far as I can remember) but somehow felt really short... although with that being said, I haven't watched the movie in years so it's hard for me to say if any scenes were cut out.
Would recommend this manga to those who like reading graphic novels and love Monsters, Inc. as well as anyone who hasn't watched the movie and want a quick read to find out what it's all about.
Also, big thanks to Netgalley for providing a free copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review (my very first Netgalley book! Woohoo!).
Prior to this title, manga had always been on my radar but nothing I'd ever seriously explored on my own. When I first started reading Disney Manga's version of Monsters Inc., I had to adjust to the way Sully looked in black and white; a bit jarring at first, but after about ten pages the story took over and my eyes adjusted and I was on my way. To my surprise, reading the manga felt like re-watching - reliving - the film all over again, even with the characters and panels all having a slightly Japanese "flavor" to them (which actually only enhanced the reading experience for me, making it that much fresher). Because it's a manga, the story covered the film's storyline in much more detail than expected, and I found myself having such fun with the story of Mike and Sully and Boo again so much, by the time I looked up from first starting to read I found I had read half the book already. Like pretty much having the complete film, in book form, to read at any time, Disney Manga's Monsters Inc. has made the transition from screen to print with much of the laughter, heart, and tenderness intact. So much so, am hoping to get my hands on some more Disney manga in the future! 4.5 stars
NOTE: I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
*~.Book Analysis.~* Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)
Rating: 5 stars Reading period: Dec. 22nd, 2018 Format: ebook Source: NetGalley – I have received this copy in exchange for an honest review. Release date: Jul. 09th, 2019
PROS I think the highlight of this manga is the art. Monsters Inc just got a lot fluffier and I loved it. The scenes are a funnier adaptation from our masterpiece and I found it all so beautifully done! Disney and manga lovers will need a copy of this volume on their shelves asap!
CONS Unfortunately, the story was a bit reduced. I understand it, as it takes longer to tell a story through manga than it does with a book, but my Disney heart hurt.
COVER ANALYSIS I simply adored this artist’s drawing style! It is sooo fluffy! I think that creating a manga version of a 3D character is way harder than creating one for a 2D character, so I’m enchanted with what I saw from the start! =D
This book was received as an ARC from Diamond Books in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I am a huge fan of Disney Books especially Disney Manga. It was such a pleasure to revisit the story of Monsters Inc. with outstanding artwork of the original characters retelling the story of Sully, Mike and the rest of the monsters collecting more screams so they can use them as power to keep their industry going. One night Sully and Mike come across Boo in a scare and she ends up following them back to Monsters Inc. and chaos breaks loose. It is so heartfelt to see the monster and human relationship flourish and blossom as Boo and Sully's did. We can't wait to have this be added to our graphic novel collection.
This will definitely be considered adding to our JGraphic Novel collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
There is a factory which employs skilled monsters to scare human children and collect their screams to power the city. Do you know the name of the factory? Yes, it’s Monsters. Inc. My son was attracted by its bright cover and asked me to request this book. He was a little bit disappointed about its black and white illustrations inside. But, it doesn’t affect his enthusiasm for Monsters. Inc. Although this manga is an adaption and some plots are omitted, the text is easy to read for young readers and its plot is easy to follow.
If you are a fan of Monsters. Inc, you can’t miss this one. If you want to start to read the manga, you can start with this one for instruction about manga-reading also included.
I am not familiar with the manga style and had a difficult time adapting to it. It was plainly stated in the description but I didn’t even know what manga was. As such, I was unable to review it adequately. I believe the target age range may also have this difficulty. The physical book may make reading it easier than the Kindle version I was using.
I do note, though, that the illustrations were broad and friendly. Flipping through it, it seemed to follow the movie.
I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion or ratings of this book.
I'd like to start off by saying, that I've heard a lot of people don't like these, and while their opinion is valid, I just love these enough for all of us. Based off of kids movies, this is the third Disney Pixar Manga that I've read, and I think they're so cute, and perfect for children as well as adults. If you want something easy to read, exactly like the movie, then this and Wall-E are the best for you, however, if you like spin off stories about the movies, then The Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero's Journey is more your style.
This was cute and I felt that it was true to the Pixar movie. I think this is something Disney/Monsters Inc fans will pick up and it's worthwhile for them. (Note: I'm a huge Disney fan myself.) Do I think Disney/Pixar should necessarily be making Manga? No. I don't think this will win over any new fans as it's a little hard to follow without already knowing the story, but is really cute for those who already love Monster Inc and Manga.
