آدم برفی سردشه

Rate this book

Funny.

The word on the street from a five year old and three year old is this book is funny.

A snowman is constantly getting cold and keeps melting trying to warm up. The children comes up with solutions.

The writing is extremely small and adult script, so it can only be read as a read-aloud.

Four stars. 💫💫💫💫

I loved this book! As a story time presenter, I have to pick books that children will be drawn to and feel like they are interacting with the characters. This is definitely the best kind of book! The children love it!!! And Sneezy the Snowman, he is not too bright. The children love that it is actually the children in the story that solve his problems!!!! It is perfect for children ages 2 to 6!!!!

Opening: Ask the students, "Have you ever gone outside to play in the snow?" Listen to the students' response and discuss. Then, say, "One time, I went outside to play in the snow, and then I got sick with a cold. My nose was all stuffed up and I kept sneezing. I drank hot cocoa to make myself feel warm and feel better. Have you ever had a cold and kept sneezing?" Discuss any questions or comments from the students. Then, show the cover of the story, read the title, and point to the illustration of the snowman sneezing. Say, "What do you see?" Listen to the students' responses (for example, "I see a snowman!" or "He is sneezing!"). Ask the students what they "predict" will happen in the story (explain that "predict" means that they will guess what the story will be about). Then, say, "OK, let's find out what happens in the story!" Read the story, stopping to look at the illustration, point out details, and discuss.

Opening Moves: 1) Prompt predictions based on the title. 2)Prompt brief sharing of personal experiences related to the text. 3) Activate background knowledge.

Rationale for Book Selection: When I introduce my "Clothes" theme, I begin in December when the weather is getting cold. We discuss hats, gloves, scarves, boots, coats, etc. "Sneezy the Snowman" is a great book to introduce my theme, and to begin discussing the variety of warm clothes we wear to stay warm in the winter. In the story, the children share their hat, scarf, and coat with the snowman because he is too cold. My students will love "Sneezy" as a character. Earlier in the school year we do lessons about "sharing," so this will be a great review.

Um... what? Why? The last little girl gives up her whole winter coat and then has to be cold and eat ice cream so that the snowman who demands the children continue to rebuild him can be the "right temperature."

This is a fanciful children’s picture book.
The story is fun and fanciful.
At first I thought it was a remake of Frosty the Snowman, but it has a different twist.
The illustrations are excellent.
I downloaded this as part of the Amazon Prime benefits.
I wish I had a child next to me right now to share this fun picture book.

This was...odd.
I thought Sneezy the snowman was a snowman with a cold. Who eventually would be called Sneezy. But his name was Sneezy right out of the gate and I didn’t know why.
I felt like this was part of a series and I didn’t have the backstory.

Sneezy was demanding.
He drinks hot chocolate, not realizing that would cause him to melt. When he ends up a puddle the kids cry “what should we do?” He says “make me brand new.”
After they built him, one of the girls give him her hat.
Not learning a dang thing from the hot chocolate, he’s still cold and decides to get in a hot tub. Once again he melts.
The kids cry “what should we do?”
He says “make me brand new!”
The boy gives him his scarf ones he’s rebuilt and cold once again.
Still not learning anything about snow and heat, he goes and stands by a fire—that happened to be lit right out in a snowstorm. Who lit the fire?—and he melts.
The kids cry “what should we do?” Sneezy says “make me brand new!”
The kids should have just not built him back and left well enough alone.
The one girl gives him her jacket and she’s freezing out in the snow while the dang snowman wears clothes!

Instead of feeling warm with all their clothes on, sneezy is hot,& this is the point I was really annoyed.
He wants to take off all the clothes they’ve given him despite complaining the entire book about being cold. This has to be the dumbest snowman ever. Could you not take off one or two things?
The kids say that’s not the way and take him to get ice cream. There’s this random ice cream stand right out in the middle of nothing. Why not explain before that hot things will make him melt?

He gets seven scoops and says he’s not too cold or hot—miracle, and he’s wearing clothes he liked a lot. I honestly thought I’d turn the page and find him frozen, which was fine by me. But it ends with “At last! I feel just right.”
Well isn’t that just wonderful, after having taken the kids clothing who can actually freeze outside, and not you, a being of the cold who shouldn’t feel anything! Or eat or drink anything.

I get fanciful things. I like fanciful things. But the idea of a snowman being cold or hot...just no.
The idea of this book was too out-there for me.
The cardinals were cute, covering their eyes while he drank hot chocolate and holding out their hands—wings—to the fire. And sitting in the puddle of the melted Sneezy and on the hot tub rim with float snd snorkel.
The snowman’s smile was frankly creepy. He looked cute sometimes but he mostly got on my nerves.
The illustration was more like a movie or tv show and not a book. Not my style.
This whole book was not my cuppa.

Read this today for my four-year old grandson. He arrived for the day with Legos, his Kindle - yes we all have them in this family; some of us have two - and about thirty-two books for me to read. :-/

So I said pick out your favorite for us to read first, and he did, this one. He said 'it's great when he melts.' Well the silly snowman does melt, whenever he drinks hot cocoa, or sits near a campfire, and does other melt-inducing things. This was the kind of book where my grandson kept looking at me as I read to get my reaction because he already knew what was going to happen. So, using all my different voices, we read it, he laughed and watched me read.

Great little book, perfect for a snowy (or rainy) day. It will become one of our favorites.

And yes we read several others, but this was his favorite.

Four stars.

What an excellent read-aloud for storytime! The rhymes just roll off the tongue and the pattern and repetition help the kids follow along and predict what's going to happen. I read it to a group of 3-5 year olds this morning who particularly enjoyed sneezing along with me. Super fun.

Harper, age 7: I liked the repeating words and the pictures.

Tajia, age 5: I like Sneezy the Snowman and the mitten so much that I wish that they can come to real life. Sneezy the Snowman, at the end, he wanted ice cream because he was too hot and the kids got ice cream, too.

I got this book for my 8 year old to read when he was in a pinch without a book. It was a cute book about a snowman that just couldn't get warm and the kids who tried to help him. My son was thoroughly entertained and I even chuckled at what the silly snowman tried. It was a little easy reading for him (he's at the older end of his 2nd grade class) but it was enjoyable.

Sneezy is bit confused as a snowman. Drinking hot cocoa, standing by a fire and sitting in a nice hot tub are not things that go over well for a man made of snow...even if he is freezing.

This book is a treasure for the primary teacher. The potential uses are abundant, from cause & effect, inferences, rhyming, long e sounds, and more. The illustrations alone could be two lessons. A perfect January selection!
