A professional freelance author who began her career in publishing as an avid D&D player, Lassieur worked for thirteen years in the publishing industry as an editor for magazines such as Disney Adventures and Highlights for Children.

She's edited game products for TSR, West End Games, and Sierra Online. In addition, she has more than two dozen nonfiction children's books to her credit and has contributed to such magazines as National Geographic World and Scholastic News.

Lassieur lives and works in Eastern Pennsylvania.

This book provides a very concise summary of the voyage of the Mayflower and the people who settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The book explains the motivation for their historic journey, and describes the difficulties and challenges they met along the way.

I noticed that the episode involving John Howland is mentioned on page nineteen, when he fell overboard the Mayflower and was saved because he was able to grab onto a line and get pulled back onto the ship. He is one of my ancestors, so I always look to see if his accident is mentioned in books about the voyage.

Overall, it's a fast read and the illustrations help to tell the story. It's not overly detailed, but gives a broad overview.

A surprisingly entertaining and solid intro to the Mayflower. My son is 7 and picked this out to be read together for out bedtime reading. I'm always surprised when he picks nonfiction, but considering my love of it I shouldn't be. The drawing style cracks me up though. Anyhoo, it kept him engaged and he even wanted to read all the facts at the end (always a sign of a winner). If you have a kiddo who loves stories of ships like I do, then this is a winner. Just enough info to keep you interested without being overwhelmed.
