"Lowell’s irreverent counter-mythology feels like a sardonic revamp of Paradise Lost, taking a very flawed Eve through a gonzo redemption arc toward responsibility and selflessness.... A rollicking send-up of Abrahamic origin stories, featuring a tough, sharp-tongued mother of humankind.... [His] prose is punchy and raucous: 'You gotta admit we’ve had some crazy fun times together,' chortles Serpent to Eve, reminiscing about her time with him in hell. 'Like when I barbecued all those little freaks of nature out in Andromeda….God knows what those things were, but they hopped like corn kernels in a hot skillet.'" — Kirkus Reviews
Eve is an eighteen-year-old spitfire in the Garden of Eden with an inverted moral compass and a comedically twisted view of the world.
After having discovered a great truth about the universe from Satan, who calls himself Serpent, she decides to sneak into higher realms of consciousness and wants him to join her. He agrees, but part of the deal is that Eve reincarnates on Earth to perform a task for him first. After this last hurrah, which takes place in the ancient colony of Atlantis, he'll gladly join her. However, her assignment ends up causing all of human civilization a tremendous amount of suffering.
Despite fulfilling her end of the bargain, Serpent reneges on his promise. Feeling betrayed, Eve reincarnates on Earth once again, only this time seeking to serve God rather than Serpent. By this point on Earth, a powerful secret society has taken control of the world, and Eve will need the help of her human father to expose the group by hacking into worldwide media conglomerates.
She should be cautious though because the people she has hurt in the past will show up now to torment her. Will she succeed in trying to expose the secret society? And will she ever be able to fully abandon Serpent, or will she seek vengeance against him for tricking her?
#indieauthor writing a #dystopian #womensfiction novel: After being betrayed by Satan, her surrogate father, fiery and twisted 18-year-old Eve (as in Adam and Eve) reincarnates to take on the world's most powerful secret society--"kicking butt...for God."
As for myself, I love my family, dog Juni & CHOCOLATE.
**I received this book for free from a Goodreads Giveaway and this is my honest review**
At first I thought the concept of the book and unique plot was exciting and it would be a good book. I found it nearly impossible to read. I couldn't wait to get it over with so I never had to look at it again. The plot/setting/timeline jumps around and yes that is unique and interesting but every character was dislikable and cringeworthy to me.
I give the author credit for smooth writing, the unique idea for the book/creativity, and the easy to follow grammatically correct writing.
Now this is all just my personal opinion, I don't discourage anyone from checking it out, I just didn't find it enjoyable to me.
I started reading the book and kept thinking it would get better. It did not.
I normally would not continue reading a book that did not hold my interest and was poorly written. Since this was an advanced review copy, I decided to finish it.
It is the story of modern day Adam and Eve. Eve is 18 and her surgoate father is Satan. She is betrayed my him and becomes part of a secret society, following GOD and doung Good.
There is mild graphic violence. If you are looking for romance, you winter find it here.
I felt the author jumoed around a lot and the characters, in my opinion, weren't well developed and no constancy.
As this is an ARC, I hope the author makes some much needed changes before final publication. The plot of the book is great, just needs help.
I received this ARC in a giveaway. This is my honest opinion.
I want to first say thank you to Goodreads and the author as I won this book in a giveaway. The description of the book makes it sound amazing! Sadly the actual book didn't meet the expectations. The book felt rushed, details were left out, things didn't make sense.
The write up for the book sounded great and interesting. Too bad it was the best part of the book! I rarely dis a book I win on Goodreads as I figure it is better to say nothing than leave a so-so review. However i couldnt bring myself to finish this book and that just goes too far. I'm sorry but maybe the authors next attempt will be better?
I really found it hard to get through this book, and honestly if it wasn't for the fact it was fairly short, I probably would have abandoned it. Anyways I don't know where to start, and I hate not having anything good to say as I don't want to put anyone's work down.
First off, everything feels emotionless. The characters, the events, it all just feels dull and empty. As a result of that, I didn't really like any of the characters, and Eve alone isn't likeable for most of the book. Then whenever something happened good or bad, It just felt like it wasn't even important. I think that's what it really came down to, nothing felt important.
Another thing is, the story really felt like it never knew what it wanted to be. The story jumps and cuts from here to there on a whim, making the pacing horrible. Character's personalities are whatever is convenient at the time and never developed. Things are introduced to quickly be dismissed. It felt like someone was just throwing ideas at a wall to see what stuck.
Finally, the writing style really wasn't my cup of tea. Cursing words are censored in a way that I found a little cringe, and then used in other places. Things are either not described at all or overly described. The writing will go from something I would consider as 5th grade level to throwing in uncommon words that just feel out of place. And finally, as I mentioned before, it just felt emotionless. No green light at the end of the dock to look out at for hope.
Ultimately, the best way I can describe Wrath of Eve is by comparing it to another medium, videogames. The book feels like an amazing idea someone brought to a boardroom, but never could receive the funding to make it happen, or were forced to meet a deadline and ran out of time. In the end producing something that is a hollow shell of the original concept, haphazardly thrown together.
I want to thank Goodreads and the author for a copy of the book. I received it from a giveaway.
I REALLY wanted to love this book. It’s was a book of blasphemous butt-kicking and -initially- morally ambiguous characters.
Overall, I’d give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars (since this was early release I chose to round up for the concept). Here is the breakdown:
Eve -of the biblical Adam and Eve- has been reincarnated after serving penitence. However, she has been marked by the “Serpent” to remind her reincarnations of her goal to help him(won’t delve into it because spoilers). Overall, the concept was good! The dialogue was witty, humerous, and easy to follow. There were a few wording choices (the “gee willikers” really threw me) but it helped you see the quirkiness of some of the characters so it was bearable.
My biggest disappointment was the length! I wanted to read more. Not necessarily in totality, but just deeper. I felt like Eve’s story could have been more of a slowburn(really go deep into Dumuzi and Nanaya) and the different lives she lived. There were a lot of time jumps, which was necessary to get to the big fight scene and revelation, but I would have liked to know Eve a lot deeper.
Overall, a quick and quirky read with religious references. It definitely left the door open for a series, so I hope to get to know Eve better as she balances out her karma!
Can't wait for 2nd book Thought the story was going one way but not if your worried about earth and global warming read this I won this book in sweepstakes
*This was won through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway*
The premise of this story sounded quite intriguing and new. The follow-through left a lot to be desired. First and foremost, the editing of this story appeared to be non-existent. I lost count of the number of articles, prepositions, and other words that were missing from sentences. Now, most of these may be corrected in future versions since I received an ARC, but it seemed excessive in my mind.
Secondly, the author chose to use Boston and Jamaica Plain Massachusetts as the current day setting without seeming to do any form of research. Street names that were chosen do not exist. Also, to the best of my recollection, these areas do not resemble the ones described in the book.
While I have no problem with an author deciding to stay away from using foul language in their stories, the over-use of sanitized versions of swears, ie fudge nuggets, forces the reader out of the story. Perhaps the target audience is a younger group, but I do not remember seeing any hint of this in the giveaway description.
I also found it hard to continue reading when the setting of the story was Atlantis. I understand we have no real idea that it even exists, but to have society and technology be equivalent to modern-day society did not feel believable. I especially did not appreciate the use of a nuclear explosion as being the way that society was destroyed.
There were a few times I almost added this book to my did not finish shelf. I cannot recommend it to anyone.
I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. I finished the book so I could give it a real review, but I would have preferred to not have finished. In the spirit of fairness, I have placed it on my Did Not Finish shelf despite the fact that I finished it.
This book was not enjoyable. In fact, I feel just a bit less intelligent after having read it.
There was no real character development; it was as if he wrote the book in a hurry and didn't want to take the time. The language is a little too pre-teen for this type of story, but with a touch of obscenity and graphic violence thrown in as if to prove he isn't a teenage girl.
No imagination was harmed - or even used - in the creation of this book. The Garden of Eden and Hell were as expected. Purgatory is a blank white waiting room. Atlantis is like any other modern Earth city. The characters are all out of (or catering to) a pre-teen's brain; the characters are completely two-dimensional, without any real emotions.
I am glad the author wrote a book for his ten year old daughter. It's sweet. However, this book never should have been published in its current state.
This was a Goodreads giveaway that I won. The premise made the book sound amazing, I was excited to read it.
So praise: David Lowell has proper grammar and punctuation.
The rest: Adam and Eve would never speak the way they did before the original sin, and even after, they most certainly would not have told Archangel Gabrielle that they told God to “get bent”. It only went downhill from here. There was graphic and glorified violence for no reason, child abuse, nuclear attacks without any mention of the fallout and then she just spirits away out of existence? Then secret societies controlling the media? The same society with nuclear weapons? Finding all this info just randomly on the internet and she is the only one to have this info even though her father was a long time hacker? Yeah ok. Then a guardian angel who just fucks off and ignores the person he is supposed to be guarding? I just can’t. And there is going to be a sequel? I think I’ll pass. This really needed a publisher/editor.

This book started out very interesting, with a unique twist on Eve (of Adam and Eve fame). I got pulled in right away and was happily enjoying the story... until I was jarred out of it by some weird grammatical stuff. Then, just as I was getting back into the story, I was jarred out of it again, this time by a warning to skip to the "final few paragraphs" if you're a younger reader. I grew up reading Stephen King and graduated to Jack Ketchum, so I can handle gore. As such, I continued reading, but was angry about the interruption to the story. I never did get back into the story, because what followed the warning was unnecessary, homophobic, and just plain disgusting.
I wanted to like this book. I really liked the idea behind it, very unique. Unfortunately, it didn't pull me in. I felt like the author was struggling to find his audience. One minute it seems like you are reading a typical adult novel, the next you are thrust into an older children's book. The characters in the book had very little depth to them. The ending was my least favorite part. While I didn't love the rest of the book, there were decent ideas in it that just needed to have been expanded on to draw in the reader. The ending, however, felt out of place with the whole book. I thought maybe the main character was having another one of her dreams and she would wake up and find out the real resolution.
I received this book as a giveaway. Note: I am not a Christian, but read the Bible multiple times. I found the first pages of this book using so much American slang, that it took my head completely out of my idea of Eden. This habitual use of contemporary vernacular made the characters feel unrealistic. I want descriptive nouns and verbs, adjectives and adverbs that show a creative interest in the story by the author. I also considered the idea that the writing was dumbed down... "So what's the deal?" - Adam, page 6 asking Eve about what's bothering her about her appearance. Her response is "Forget about leaves for a sec." Also, making Eve's responses to Adam's honest concern ispassive aggressive. She's literally arguing about her sanity, whether she's "crazy" or not. It is completely unhelpful to the reader.

What an interesting book. I won this on a goodreads giveaway and was open-minded before I started reading it. I was pleasantly surprised with the journey Eve took and the amount of reincarnation that took place. It definitely made me think about life, death, the afterlife, our souls, and reincarnation. It was a wonderfully written story about the different things that happen in life no matter who you are or who you come back as. My only criticism is that I sometimes had to reread parts because I was confused about some of the jumps. Some of the descriptions would maybe skip a sentence that would have tied the thought together better, but otherwise, I thought I was very creative, entertaining, and thought-provoking! Well done.
I received this from a Goodreads giveaway and I'm very thankful it was free.
I liked the concept of the book, but I expected it to be a lot darker. I expected something akin to the TV show Supernatural, but got something closer to a child's bedtime story. The characters were simplistic and unlikable, the plot was weak, and the whole idea of how Eve got her payback was laughable. I don't say this to be mean. I truly wanted to be surprised by this book, but it was just plain bad. It's short, so I finished it, but I really can't recommend this to anyone.
This book was an ARC. While some parts of the storyline were well thought out others seemed to leave you hanging. I nearly DNFd but pushed through to the ending hoping for a big ending, sadly it was not. It was rather short and left openings for a potential series so would be interested to see if it goes that route. As others have said after reading the preview I was less than impressed with the actual story. I really wanted to love it but it's just okay.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book as a Goodreads giveaway.
I enjoyed the story about Eve and her tie to the Serpent. I enjoyed the ending. I wish the story was a bit longer and had more telling. Maybe it can be done as a series? I think Eve has a lot of good stories left in her timeline.
**I received this book for free from a Goodreads Giveaway and this is my honest review**
I wasn't sure at the beginning of this book if I would enjoy it. But the farther I got into it, it turns out that I enjoyed it a better than I thought I would at the beginning. Eve evolution and change was an exciting turn of events, and they all seemed to be in a proper sequence for her. Some of our own changes, when we look back on them, seem to be in a similar sequence. I hope to find out more about Eve and her journey.
I did find that the voice and tone changed rather abruptly in the last quarter of the tale, making me wonder if the manuscript may have sat dormant for some time between the beginning and the end.
I enjoyed the mingling of Christianity and Buddhism - it harkened to some Piers Anthony’s Incarnations.
Would certainly read more of author David Lowell.
My thanks to the author and publishers for the giveaway!
While I enjoyed the premise of this story, the execution wasn't quite what I had hoped for. There are a host of intriguing and morally grey characters, however we were often "told" what was happening rather than "shown". I received this advanced copy in exchange for a review, and I think that an ARC it has quite a bit of potential, but needs to be refined quite a bit.
This story definitely had promise. I liked the premise, but I never got pulled in to the story. The few beginning chapters were way to summarized, too short. They could have been longer to develop the main characters. The last half of the book was a little better. But I just really wanted the story to end.
I won this book through goodreads and after reading the plot was looking forward to start the book. Unfortunately, it fell short. The main character was unlikable from the beginning to the end and the writing was stilted. I felt like this was a missed opportunity. Hopefully someone else will enjoy it.
Thought this was an interesting concept, but the story was extremely poorly crafted and unpolished. I found very little to like in any of the characters and struggled to finish this story.
I received a free copy of the ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated here are my own.
I won this book in a giveaway and it was alright. It had some really good moments, but others were lacking. It was blatantly obvious this was a female character written by a man which really took me out of it. Overall a really cool concept though. I would be interested in seeing where the sequel goes.
