I found this earlier today while looking through the list of underrated manga; it was described as being mysterious and gory, which is precisely what I prefer. I enjoy the artwork since it is roomy and takes less time to read. The narrative genuinely interests me, and I want to learn more.
A pretty solid series. I liked it. The idea was what got me interested, but it was the characters who got me hooked and added the extra star at the end.
I mean, hurray for female manga characters who aren't useless dolts! I can't believe I found a manga where I didn't actually hate a single one of its female characters! But I have to say, while Shadow Ushio is kick-ass and all, it's Hizuru who wins my heart.
Anyway. This manga has ultra Erased vibes, which I loved, and since I went into this manga not knowing anything about it, it was a pleasant surprise.
Shinpei returns to his hometown only to discover that shadow-creatures are on the verge of taking over his entire island. Like their name suggests, these Shadows are dopplegangers of existing villagers, flashing into creation with the exact same bodies and memories as their "real" counterparts. Their sole purpose, it seems, is to murder and thereafter take over the lives of their human. And so begins Shinpei's story as he gathers friends and strangers alike to form an alliance against the Shadows.
Sounds pretty straightforward so far, right? Wrong. Time and time again Shinpei loses the battle, all leading to the final war where the Mother of Shadows annihilate everyone and everything he knows. Time and time again Shinpei dies; but he wakes up right where he started: On the boat sailing towards his hometown.
Turns out somewhere, somehow, he was given the gift to wake up in the past upon death. Now he has the opportunity to change the future.
The only catch is, everytime he dies, he wakes up a little closer in time to the Final War. He will thus eventually run out of time, and so he must use his ability and knowledge wisely in order to defeat the shadows once and for all.
Beyond its intriguing premise, this manga also wrapped things up very nicely. I can't say I enjoyed every aspect of its story--certainly there were times things got a little confusing--but everything was explained neatly by the end, including how/where Shinpei acquired his ability, and thus why he was the only one who could "save the world". It's not so much a "Chosen Hero" trope than it is a time paradox, and that's a nice change.
Our characters aren't perfect, indestructible heroes; they don't always outwit their enemies; and they occasionally make the wrong decisions, so it was always a ride reading. Like I said, ultimately this was a pretty solid read.
Shinpei went back to the countryside for his childhood friend, Ushio's funeral. After a horrible and deadly afternoon on July 23rd, he woke up and realized that the terrible events that took place were only a dream or a nightmare. Little did he know that he was in for a July 22nd time travel in order to save his little sister Mio from getting attacked by a doppelgänger or a shadow as they call it that could also be his childhood friend's murderer.
This is so interesting, I never knew I needed this! I wasn't prepared for what I was going to get! I was only hoping for an Anohana vibe but it became so dark suddenly! I'm in love with this! You can definitely see why my jaw was hanging and why I devoured this shit for an instant. Not once a boring panel, although, I can't help but be offended by the unwanted fanservice. And this series actually reminds me of the 1993 American movie, Groundhog Day which I tell you is a freaking masterpiece in its time and in my notes.
By the way, Shinpei's visual reminds me of Mio from Seaside Stranger!
Intriguing fantasy thriller wich looks like Invasion of the body snatchers meets Groundhog day so far. It’s reasonably bloody with some bursts of violence and kinda succeeds in installing a stressful ambiance. I’m not certain the probable romance will bring much to the plot but I’m pretty sure the panties and girl's bottoms shots won’t. These are thankfully scarce.
A mystery-murder thriller with a taste of grief and time travel. It is terribly interesting, but the author has to remind the reader maybe every other chapter that the girls are still wearing panties and other women still have breasts... This last one is tested with the main character's face.
Also, fun fact, the manga makes use of pixels for shading. But, because I had read the first chapters from an excerpt, I was at first convinced my chapters were censored :')
Aku ketinggalan baca manga sebagus ini... Bisa dibaca di MangaPlus dengan lengkap! Misteri! Supernatural!!
Mendekati akhir **SANGAT SPOILER**
CONTINUA A LEGGERE QUI -> http://bit.ly/2XpZsdj
Dikkat istiyor. Bana okuduğum Our Summer Love adlı mangayı hatırlattı.
This rating and review are for the ongoing series.
Finished catching up in Mangaplus, Shueisa's free official mangareader app. It's a very tight mystery and horror that keep me on the edge of my seat.
Ajiro Shinpei came back from Tokyo to his island village to attend the funeral of Fumino Ushio, a girl that was his childhood friend and later his adopted sister when Shinpei was taken in to the family after his parents died in a boating accident. People said that Ushio died because of drowning while tried to save Shiori, a little girl in their neighborhood that came with her to a beach picnic. But suspicion came from the children present in the day Ushio died, because they believed they saw that there's a strangulation mark on Ushio's neck.
Mio, Ushio's little sister, told Shinpei that shortly before she died, Ushio saw her lookalike. She then proposed the legend of their village about how someone would die if they'd ever cross path with their doppleganger called "shadows" and believed that Ushio was killed by one. And so begin Shinpei's struggle to uncover the real reason of Ushio's death and the existence called the "shadows" that plagued the island.
Shinpei is visiting his childhood home, which is on an isolated island in Japan. He's traveling back because a close childhood friend, who he hasn't seen in two years, has died mysteriously. They claim she drowned, but why are their strangle marks on her neck. Ushio's family had taken him in and treated him as family when his own parents died, and now he keeps having dreams that he needs to protect Ushio's younger sister Mio. After the funeral, something strange happens, and Shinpei is having serious dejavu. There's lots of violence and blood, and a deep dark sense of foreboding. The characters are very one sided, so I don't really connect with them, but I love the unknown element of the plot and want to know more about the strange shadows. I do plan to read the rest of the series when it comes out mostly because I want to understand the story, not because I care about the characters.
Read the whole series in like 2 days, I feel like at the beginning the series doesn’t set itself apart from others in this genre (very similar to erased, re:zero, high rise invasion type of series) not to say it isn’t good since I like all of the comps. Later on tho the series sets itself aside as a bit more original so worth checking out for like a thriller time travel type of read
Intrigued by this but once again annoyed by Japan love for the sexualization of schoolgirls (or basically every female in the story, really). Also unsure if I will enjoy the rest because of the time travel thing but I want to know what happens next!
an ok story so far, a little bit thriller-y, a little bit fantastical and horror-y. I'm not a huge fan for the moment but it's still intriguing and depending on where they go with it it could be pretty good.
