Rate this book
. . / This book presents a totally new concept about cancer. In general, the conventional treatments, where cells are killed, removed or burned, offer most patients a 70 percent chance of remission from the cancer and most survivors are ""cured"". Moritz shows why cancer treatments may be fatal, what really causes cancer and how to eliminate obstacles.

Update 11/30/14 This is my first time modifying or adding to an existing book review when I have not recently re-read the book. I read this book nearly 9 months ago, and the review I'm leaving below is from then. But as I'm gladly finished with my non-fluoride toothpaste (something the late author of this book recommended) and 3 days back onto fluoride toothpaste and finally feeling the sensation of clean teeth again, and looking forward to adding back some normal deodorant with traces of aluminum that ACTUALLY WORKS, I'm reminded of a few things. First, nonconformity is admirable in small doses, but a big pain for everyone involved if done on a large scale. Second, there's a need to just chill out. I think isolation from social norms and stress to live a certain degree of purity add as much risk to health as the bad things you're avoiding. Finally, I think about this book weekly, and I stand by my assertion that it does a good job in at least getting readers to consider alternate ways of thinking. I'm pretty sold on some of the suggestions that I've seen validated in other sources and in my own experience, but so much of this book seems suspect and likely dangerous in its advice. The fact that the author died and that the exact causes were not apparently revealed really calls it into question. Because I think there are some small merits in this book, I've left my original view as is below. However, I have lowered it from 3 stars to 2, and I confess that I get ticked off more often than not when I think of this book. It's not just the highly questionable advice, but I get very angry when I remember the sheer arrogance of the author. Throughout, he writes this from a point-of-view that being a vegan without a microwave, computer, and refusing all forms of medication are the only ways to avoid what causes cancer, and speaks down to the reader as if this is undisputed truth. So, I could not recommend this book to anyone, at least not unless I knew them personally well enough to be open-minded to hear/see all the info and then use good judgment as to what should be ignored.

ORIGINAL REVIEW March 3, 2014

This book is a great illustration for several lessons. The first is to not dismiss a book solely by a title or book summary (more on that in a moment). The second is that you should never take the advice of one source. This book is very persuasive but the damning criticisms of this author and this book on blogs and other websites are equally persuasive. The third lesson is the reminder that even a book that has misinformation can have plenty of truth, and vice versa. People aren't infallible. They believe what they do because of what they've read or heard. Sometimes that is truth, and sometimes it isn't. The only way to know for sure is to test it against a variety of sources, and consider the primary sources.

Back to the first lesson. I could think of several dozen people I know who might get offended by just the title of the book. I know blogs that have unjustly reduced the theories of this book, and summarized it to sound like fairy tale gibberish, people who have taken some things out of context and made it sound less plausible. I rate this book as high as 3 stars for the sole reason that this premise is very worth considering. That premise does not deny that people with cancer die. Instead, it says that cancer is a symptom of an underlying root cause that has resulted of some combination of poor diet, a number of lifestyle choices, and stress or other emotional trauma. Moritz claims that cancer is actually the body's response as a last resort to heal the body by mutating some cells so that they can survive without oxygen, that the development of cancer prolongs a life that would have expired sooner due to a more deadly root cause. In this paradigm, simply being diagnosed with cancer causes emotional trauma, as apparently shown by the many cases where a person has cancer unknowingly, has it discovered in a physical, and then proceeds to soon feel the symptoms. In this same paradigm, chemo and radiation treatments that kill the cancer but not the root cause, and also destroy the immune system, leave a person more vulnerable to secondary and more deadly cancer. I confess, this doesn't ring false. I don't think anybody knows everything we should know about cancer, but I've certainly experienced this among close friends and relatives.

There are certainly suggestions for cancer prevention that ring true compared with many other sources I've found to be credible. Here are some of those things: Get plenty of sunlight, get plenty of sleep and strive towards following natural light-dark cycles that fits your body's circadian rhythm, eat a diet dominated with vegetables, exercise but don't overdo it, avoid BPA, avoid toxic chemicals in things that go on the skin (such as sunscreen, lotion, and shampoo), and find ways to avoid stress.

Where the book fails to be something I could wholly recommend is in its own hypocritical shortcomings. Moritz repeatedly damns big pharma and the medical industry as a whole, in their conspiracy to suppress all real cures for cancer to keep their multi-billion dollar industry active. One of the biggest ways they do this is either by false/incomplete research, or getting false conclusions called correlations and calling them causations.

Quick lesson in correlation and causation: If I say, "An increase in ice cream sales leads to more violence" based on statistics, I have made a causation (statement of cause and effect) from what should be a correlation (unrelated effects unified by an unmentioned factor). The truth is that in the summer, people buy more ice cream, but the heat also makes tempers rise and leads to more violence. The author accuses most research that does not support his view as correlation, yet he does it himself throughout much of the book. He champions the China Study as the reason for a vegan diet as being the best to avoid cancer and heart disease, and there are so many articles that expose the problems of correlation in that study. It's never been considered that vegans are healthier because they tend to be more responsible with their overall health. They exercise, and strive for good sleeping habits. They tend to lower stress. So, if meat eaters get more cancer, what are the other factors? How about industrial meat vs local/grass fed/certified organic? What are the carbohydrate levels in these diets? Without asking and answering such questions, you are committing correlation errors. He damns the use of vaccines, citing "irrefutable" research that is also known to be correlation.

There is a laundry list of things to avoid that sound paranoid at worst, and have questionable results of correlation at best. Under Andreas Moritz's cancer avoidance plan, you should avoid (in addition to previously mentioned): shower curtains that aren't made of cloth, all use of microwaves (just get them out of your home), cell phones, wireless internet, getting x-rays, vitamin supplements, all medicine of any kind (including mild pain relief), wearing sunglasses, having a job that causes you to work late at night, non-organic food, living in the city, and so much more that makes it sounds hopeless. You should also undergo a questionable procedure annually that he is known for championing, called a liver flush.

The details of the book, and the obvious problems with correlation, make this impossible for me to recommend as the whole. Again, I like the questions it raises, and I think there is some truth mixed in there. If you read this, please consider all the points, but please compare them to other sources, and not just the ones that support all the ones here.

The premise of this book seems outrageous at first, but does have some plausibility. I can't say whether or not it is valid, but its implications are profound. The author claims that cancer cells are "on our side." That the immune system could easily destroy them if it wanted to, but chooses not to. That "without its root causes, cancer is as harmless as a simple cold." That orthodox cancer treatments fail to extend life because they are based on a faulty understanding of what cancer is. That they target symptoms, not causes. He discusses in detail the nature of cancer and its root causes and promoters, some of which may surprise you. His insights can be applied to other illnesses as well, not just to cancer.

What is a tumor? Is it a toxic waste depot created by the body to isolate toxins from the bloodstream? If so, attacking tumors is dangerous. Moritz describes cancer as “a more or less permanent traffic jam in the body.” If congestion is the problem, fasting might be a solution. Maybe detoxing by fasting will reduce the size of the waste depots.

I am skeptical about some of his claims: for his "energized oil paintings," his emotional healing by chanting, his liver flushes, etc. He tends to exaggerate and oversimplify. On page 142 he claims that "drinking the juice of broccoli that has been boiled in 16 to 20 ounces of water" can cure prostate cancer! Of course it is not that simple!

But there is also some good information here and this book deserves to be considered. Most of it makes sense and is well documented. This is not a book to believe or to disbelieve. It is a book to get you thinking about what cancer is and isn't. Read it critically, but read it. Then make up your own mind.

Interesting book!

Granted, the title can sound a bit audacious, maybe even offensive to some people.

Behind the bold words is hiding the message, that cancer is a symptom of an underlying sickness that the body is trying to cure itself off, via cancer. Kind of like getting a fever is a symptom of a flu, and not the cause of it or a disease in itself.

And so the message of the book, and the wording of the title, is not an attempt to discount the effects of cancer on a persons life, on the contrary.
It's trying to say cancer didnt develop trying to kill you, it developed trying to prevent you from dying, or at least make you live longer. The thing about cancer cells (besides that they spread) is that they are anaerobic (as opposed to normal aerobic cells), meaning they can convert energy without the need of oxygen. And Moritz' (and others') point is that they mutate due to an environment short of oxygen, to survive instead of dying, at least for a while. That is also why the body is not attack cancer cells, and why they sometimes spread to other parts of the body, or keep coming back, even after a person has been 'cured'( of the symptom, not the cause, in Moritz' point of view).
This is the basic premise of the book, but it involves many more aspects, research, critiques and suggestions that Im not going to go into detail with.

There are a lot of really interesting points and useful things in this book, a lot of what I believe to be true.

And if you are willing to question standard beliefs, interested in alternative medicine, and want to get inspired or challenged to look at standard medical practice, the farmaceutical industry, health and of course cancer, Id definately recommend this book.
But I suggest you read it with an open mind, and use it as a platform to investigate your own position on things and how you want to live and treat your body, in sickness and in health.

For most people this book will be a radical mental shift from our culture's "get rid of the symptom" idea to one of believing the root causes are what should be the real interest. Though a bit redundant--I suspect he does this intentionally because he's trying to get through mental boxes of thinking--he gives thorough information of what he believes cancer to be, how to view it and how to "cure" it.

I've read lots of books and articles on cancer and fighting cancer. This is my all-time favorite that encompasses information from everything I have read. This should be required reading for everyone, in my opinion. Of course, the cancer industry would not like that and that's why it will never be on a required reading list. I loved it and the book will always be in my possession for reference. I try to follow it in my daily life.

More of a rant than a serious cancer book. It's an interesting premise, and he may well be right, but he spends more time criticising the system than justifying his argument.

The book started promisingly and certainly opens your eyes. In some aspects he will certainly be right, but he spends more time criticising the system than justifying his argument. Also, I wonder since when wikipedia is a reliable source and where he gets its own information?

There is (partially) good information and this books deserves to be considered. It makes you think. Read it critically. Then make up your own mind.

The author repeats a lot the phrase that “ the cancer is not a disease” but in spite of this I think it’s an excellent book, it touches on a delicate subject that many will not agree with. I think the point from which she approaches it makes a lot of sense, I liked it!

xác định đc lý do=> nó chữa lành cơ thể bạn ntn

This was an eye-opening book, even startling in places. It caused me to think of cancer in a different light. The author states, "Cancer is not a disease at all; instead, it is a healing mechanism. The entire body supports the growth of a cancer so long as it is in its best interest. Once the healing of its root causes is complete, once the body and mind have returned to their proper and balanced state, the cancer no longer serves a purpose and either transitions into a benign and dormant state, or even disappears entirely." As such, maybe we shouldn't be viewing cancer as something we "battle," but something we heal from-- after all, our bodies made the tumors. We're only "battling" ourselves. Nixon was wrong to "declare war" on cancer in the early 1970's. Statements like these only serve to fatten the pockets of Big Pharma, and more people are dying from cancer than ever before.

It makes me think that cancer has a serious PR problem. The stress this dreaded announcement causes does not help the immune system to heal. What if we viewed cancer as actually a protective mechanism by the body, to encapsulate out-of-control rogue cells and toxins into a tumor, as part of its healing? That cutting, poisoning or burning a tumor actually causes cancer to grow back if the body didn't get a chance to complete its healing cycle? The author states that it's highly probable that many people have had tumors, but that, unbeknownst to them or their doctors, the body quietly dealt with them. "Unless they recognize that cancer is a healing mechanism orchestrated by the entire organism to correct an underlying imbalance, they will continue to search for ways to fight cancer instead of supporting it through the healing process. However, this requires trust in the body’s wisdom and natural healing abilities, not in suspicion that the body is inherently faulty or broken." He states that 90-95% of cancer can appear and disappear "of their own accord."

The author is not saying we do nothing about the cancer. He acknowledges we need a whole foods plant-based diet, clean water, sunshine, daily exercise, gratitude, and adequate sleep; and that we need to avoid chemicals and harmful radiation. We have to learn to deal with negative emotions and stress and learn to forgive as part of our healing. He offers many herbal and supplemental recommendations. I agree with his statement, "The way you perceive the cancer and the steps you choose to take following the diagnosis are some of the most powerful determinants of your future wellness, or lack thereof." All this, above all, requires trust in the body's ability to heal itself.

The author challenges us to ask: "The most important question a cancer patient may need to ask is not, 'How advanced or dangerous is my cancer?' but, 'What am I doing or not doing that puts my body into a situation of having to fight for its life?'" He further states, "Cancer reveals that some aspect of our physical, mental and spiritual life stands on shaky ground and is, to say the least, quite fragile."

There are many alternative healing suggestions in this book, many that I've seen in other natural healing books. I don't agree with everything in this book, but it is worth a read for those facing cancer.

"Cancer is Not a Disease" by Andreas Moritz is a fascinating and thought-provoking book that challenges the conventional view of cancer as a deadly disease that must be fought with aggressive treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation.

Moritz argues that cancer is not a disease in the traditional sense, but rather a natural response of the body's immune system to toxins and other stresses that disrupt the body's natural balance. In this view, cancer is not an enemy to be defeated, but rather a symptom of deeper imbalances that need to be addressed in order to restore the body's health.

Throughout the book, Moritz provides a wealth of information and insights into the nature of cancer and the body's response to it. He draws on a wide range of scientific research as well as his own experience as a practitioner of natural medicine to support his arguments and provide practical advice for those seeking to prevent or overcome cancer.

One of the key themes of the book is the importance of addressing the underlying causes of cancer, rather than simply treating the symptoms. Moritz argues that many of the factors that contribute to cancer, such as environmental toxins, stress, and poor diet, are within our control, and that by making lifestyle changes we can reduce our risk of developing cancer and improve our chances of recovery if we do.

Another important theme of the book is the idea that cancer is not an isolated condition, but rather part of a larger pattern of imbalance in the body. Moritz argues that cancer is often accompanied by other health problems such as digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, and immune dysfunction, and that by addressing these underlying issues we can not only prevent cancer but also improve our overall health and well-being.

One of the most compelling aspects of the book is Moritz's emphasis on the importance of working with the body's natural healing processes rather than against them. He argues that conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation can be harmful and counterproductive, and that natural therapies such as herbal remedies, detoxification, and nutritional therapy can be much more effective in restoring health and preventing cancer.

Overall, I found "Cancer is Not a Disease" to be an insightful and compelling book that challenges many of the assumptions and beliefs that underlie conventional cancer treatment. Moritz's arguments are well-supported by scientific research and his own experience as a practitioner of natural medicine, and his practical advice for preventing and overcoming cancer is both inspiring and empowering.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about the nature of cancer and the body's response to it, as well as to those who are seeking practical advice for preventing or overcoming this challenging condition.

Me encantó!

First of all, this book redefines cancer as an alert or survival mechanism to cope with toxins that have accumulated in the body over time. Treating those tumors as a disease and eliminating them with conventional treatments may only provide a temporary hiatus because the root cause hasn't been addressed.

Andreas Moritz has made very bold claims of alternative treatments to manage and eliminate cancerous tumors from the body as opposed to the conventional cut-kill-burn (surgery-chemo-radiation) treatments that have a whole host of side effects and after all is said and done, can not even promise a 100% remission rate.

I would definitely use this book as a resource material to understand what other possibilities are there for the treatment of cancer. If not in isolation, I would definitely use this book in conjunction with conventional treatments to get the best of both worlds.

This is book explains very well how the cancer is working (from the first cell until the death or the healing). It presents why the usual medical possibilities are useless, and gives some really good advices for the people who want to prevent or heal the cancer. But the most important is that we understand the reason of the cancer.

The title is a bit insensitive to say the least. There are a few claims that are dubious. With that said, this book is chock full of further things to research on your own. He throws a lot of things out there. My advice, write them all down and then go research. Go to the NIH site and other medical journals. A lot of what he throws out has backing. A few things though I wouldn't try after reading up on it. It's definitely worth the read, but use discernment.

This book places a perspective on cancer with a deeper understanding in the root cause of it so to better comprehend how to “work” instead of “fight” cancer. It provides a sense of hope.

This book was outstanding! With statistics showing 1 out of every 2 Americans will have cancer in their lifetime, everyone needs to read this! Andreas Moritz explains why cancer is actually a process the body uses to protect itself from other issues that could kill it immediately. The body is not trying to attack itself. According to the author, treating cancer is not the answer when a person is diagnosed with that disease. You must get to the bottom of why cancer formed in the first place and address that issue. Moritz emphatically states, "Not treating cancer at all has a much higher success rate than treating it." He gives some excellent and practical tips on how to stay cancer free and also what a person should do to figure out why their body is having a cancerous expression. This book is an excellent compilation of what I've been reading on this topic over the past decade. It makes me feel that while we have room for improvement, we're definitely on the right track, especially by keeping our bodies adequately hydrated and in an alkaline state by drinking electrolyzed reduced water. #KangenWisconsin #KangenWater #ChangeYourWaterChangeYourLife

There is no cure for cancer, only horrendous treatments that can, for some, prove to be more awful and fatal than the disease itself and there remains no clear understanding of the causes. Whilst cancer remains this mystery authors like Andreas Moritz are able to postulate seemingly incomprehensible theories. It was thus for TB before we understood what caused it.

Of course, in medical circles he is considered a 'quack' but as medical history is littered with quackery that eventually becomes accepted practice, this is not really a condemnation to put you off reading the book. At one level his ideas my be considered preposterous but at many levels he is simply advocating a much more holistic approach to health and healing.

Moritz, along with many others (Warburg etc) suggests that genetic mutation is an effect of cancer, not its cause. "It is important to understand that genes don't mutate because they become bored with being normal or because they want to be malignant. Rather the cells are left with no other choice but to mutate in order to survive in a hostile, toxic tumour-milieu that has been created by non-genetic factors."

In fact, Moritz turns the entire concept of cancer on its head. Instead of it being a process out to destroy us, it's the body's survival mechanism kicking it.

I would have given the book 5 stars but the mystery around his death weakens the foundations of his theory. It's a shame he wasn't able to write something before he died that would have put his theory in context (as did David Servan-Shreiber) of his impending death. If it wasn't cancer it doesn't require a mystery but as it remains a mystery it makes you think it was probably cancer and although that does not refute anything he says in his book it hints at a lack of authenticity from the people around him who made the decision to withhold information as to his cause of death. The bottom line is he didn't say you didn't die from cancer!

Excellent, hopeful guide for alternative cancer self-care

This book is extremely uplifting and very helpful for anyone diagnosed with cancer who is looking into alternatives to the conventional treatments of "cut, burn and poison," that is, surgery, radiation and chemo. It is well written enough that I overlooked the poor editing and formatting in the Kindle edition.

This book mentions the all important liver flush that every conscientious cancer patient is recommended to do (as well as anyone with chronic disease), but I also purchased the book Mr. Moritz wrote on that specific subject.

What a paradigm shift! I highly recommend reading this book--even if you don't agree with him because it provides another viewpoint. However, I think he had many things right! It makes me want to change a few things.
