German philologist and folklorist Jakob Ludwig Karl Grimm in 1822 formulated Grimm's Law, the basis for much of modern comparative linguistics. With his brother Wilhelm Karl Grimm (1786-1859), he collected Germanic folk tales and published them as Grimm's Fairy Tales (1812-1815).

Indo-European stop consonants, represented in Germanic, underwent the regular changes that Grimm's Law describes; this law essentially states that Indo-European p shifted to Germanic f, t shifted to th, and k shifted to h. Indo-European b shifted to Germanic p, d shifted to t, and g shifted to k. Indo-European bh shifted to Germanic b, dh shifted to d, and gh shifted to g.

This jurist and mythologist also authored the monumental German Dictionary and his Deutsche Mythologie .

All’interno del volume possiamo leggere altre storie:

A reread for me specifically because I love these MinaLima illustrated editons so much. Foldouts and popups are my jam and the regular illustrations are also beautiful... They chose a good translation of the text and good tales to include, so the entire experience was very familiar and also novel and shiny. A ++, would wallow about in again.

There is no other book collection that I cherish more then a Mina Lima. The quality of the books is outstanding, with a gorgeous embossed cover and vividly colored illustrations. Each picture is a fairy tale within itself. I could get lost within the pages for an eternity.
Mina Lima is known for its interactive pages within their books. In their newest classic, Snow White and Other Grimms’ Fairy Tales, they have taken the experience to another level. This is a collection of stories, each with their own unique surprise. Pop ups that climb out of the book and stretch across, bring the story to life. There are flip ups, folded page reveals and even a multi layered flip that surprised me. Of all the magical extras, the Gingerbread House from Hansel & Gretel is my favorite. The house pops out to reveal the inside kitchen, giving a full immersive experience never before seen.
The other amazing thing that Mina Lima does, is make their stories multi-cultural. There is no exclusion in their stories, so that everyone can read them and relate. It’s gives a worldly feel to the book, forever changing up the standard stale Disney vibe of other fairy tales.
I can not rave about this book enough. This is a book for collectors or to gift to someone very special. Snow White and Other Grimms’ Fairy Tales comes out Tuesday. You’re going to want to buy a copy for the holidays.

I LOVE Grimm's fairy tales, I grew up with them. I also remember having a thick book as a child called From Fairy Tale into Fairy Tale. It was a collection of folk and fairy tales from all over the world, from all continents. I used to love that book too, I used to love the variety of stories and countries. The illustrations "illustrated" that fact.
This is not that type of book. It's a collection of folk tales from Germany, appropriated with illustrations to appear as collection of tales from all over the world. Very bizzare. Was it for the sake of "inclusivity"? Maybe. But it seems very inappropriate. When I'm reading collection of tales from India, I want to see illustrations of Indian characters. When I'm reading tales from China, I want to see Chinese characters. And when I'm reading tales from Germany, I want to see German characters. Seeing Rumpelstiltskin set in India is just as riddiculous as seeing Alladin or Mulan with European or African characters. Honor every culture for what it is/was.

I'm a big fan of MinaLima's books, and am aiming to slowly collect them all. This particular one is a collection of Grimms' fairy tales. Not all of them though, there's only 20 here, but they are gorgeously illustrated and a select number of them have an interactive or pop-up feature as well. It is 20 of the most common or popular tales in this book; I know the description of the book says 23, but I am not sure why. Each tale is numbered, so I'm sure I haven't miscounted.

Now I am not rating this book 5 stars because how am I supposed to rate classic fairy tales? It seems kind of weird to me. But I am rating this collection of Grimms' tales 5 stars because it is so beautiful and gorgeous.

Probably my favorite MinaLima collection! The illustrations are gorgeous & diverse*, and the interactive elements seem to get cooler with each new edition! Additionally, not only are all twenty stories succinct enough to please my minute attention span, but this volume also features the well known princess stories along with some other really delightful tales.

*There was only one time where the illustration versus the story threw me for a loop: it was Rumpelstiltskin, and the illustrator drew what appeared to be Indian characters & settings for the story. Which is great, but feels slightly off when the main character is guessing names like Timothy, Benjamin, John, and Ichabod LOL. I still love it though 'cause it was worth it to see Rumpelstiltskin rocking a kurta >>>

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love collecting the MinaLima editions of classic fairy tales! The books themselves are so gorgeous, and the illustrations and interactive elements are so beautifully done.

With 20 both famous and lesser-known Grimms' tales in this collection, this feels like a wonderful book to keep in the family. I know that if I had children, the MinaLima editions would be my preferred version to read to them.

The numerous illustrations and interactive elements were superb as always. It also has great rep, such as Frau Holle being told with Asian characters and Red Riding Hood being a black girl, as well as many other lovely details like these in other stories.

I love the MinaLima editions of books and I have almost all of them, but this was just so-so for me. I guess the majority of the stories ending with a daughter being given away as a prize to some prince or random was just icky lol. I try to look past these old and antiquated ideas in stories, but it was just hard with almost every single story ending this way. This is one of my least favorite MinaLima books. Still lovely illustrations and nice to own if you want the collection but it was just meh for me.
